I know this is an old video but your tips have been so helpful. I absolutely do not apply heat to my locs just as I didn't when I had loose natural hair. I am glad to know that I can air dry my hair and prevent mildew. I usually wash my locs during the day, squeeze with microfiber towel and let it air dry. From this day forward, I will not oil my locs until after the drying process has been complete then go back lightly spray and oil for moisture. Thank you so much!!!
I've wash my locs overnight and never had a problem with mildew. If u squeeze ur locs out with like 3 To 4 towels and wait a few hours before going to bed,it won't be a problem. I don't do this often but sometimes I have no choice.
I just came across this post while looking for a new dryer with bonnet as I have had my current one for five years and my locs have outgrown it. You gave awesome tips, and what I noticed early on is that too much heat can cause damage but leaving MY locs to air drop makes them frizz quicker and lock in any elements from the environment more. I used to air dry a full day only to find that my locks were still damp on the inside. Loc mildew is real even if you can't see it or you are not examining your locs. That will also cause them to become frail and brittle from the inside out. I'm not a loctician but I've been maintaining my own locs with a salon visit once or twice a year for a little pamper. I do oil my locs midway through hooded bonnet drying because I found it pointless to resist my hair after drying and risk the additional frizz. Great video. Will definitely be checking you out.
I love the black hair! I air dry when I don't retiwst or touch-up but when I do, I use a handheld blow dryer for about 15-30 minutes so the locs and products can set.
I use tea tree oil and I just let them dry as I walk around. I dont think it will result in mildew. Hell we use to hand clothes on the clothing line and let the sun take care of them. I wouldn't wash my hair and go trekking through the woods but city air and a little sun wont harm anything I think.
So interesting! I have never heard of anyone putting oil on their scalp while its wet. And i use a underhood dryer no hair damage here. Different strokes for different folks. Some good tips though.
I should have watched this video again before washing my hair today. I put oil in my hair when it wasn't fully damp because I was in a rush for school and I wanted my hair to have the nutrients. That's why my hair is taking longer to dry. Thank you!
Sometimes if my hair still isn't dry when I'm going to sleep I just don't sleep with my satin loc sock, I turn my fan on high and I lay them spread out behind me and sleep like that. But yea best time to wash is first thing in the morning as you said.
@@bevlenoir7473 no, it's not, usually I make sure to moisturize my scalp, and generally I just do that to let it dry but after it's dry I go back to my satin bonnet
Thanks for the tips. I always shampoo my locs at night. Cause the day is so busy my hair feels dirty and I do it when I get into the house. But now all your tips makes sense and I will be changing this routine Lol. Awesome video and thanks for sharing!!
Great video :) I’m gonna check out your website. Also I really wanted to do a deep clean when I get out of work but now I guess I’ll wait till the morning since I’ll be on my weekend. Sad but still excited to try some things. My 4 year old locks need love. Since the pandemic I’ve just been letting myself go. I hope all are well ~ 🙏
That's what's up Great Natural Tips... U learn something every day. I will definitely try dem out cause it takes a long time for my hair to dry. Keep up the good work 👍🏾👌🏾
Thanks for this great video. I'm really bad at washing mine at night after work and then wrapping it and waking up with it still wet :( I need to make this a weekend morning affair.
NYC Kali when you wash it in the day you have the full day for your hair to dry before bed. When you wash it in the night you’ll likely go to bed with a wet head which can lead to mildew in your locs
Your such a beautiful sista, you seem beautiful inside and out like you have a good spirit. Just wanted to let you know that, and I'm drying my locks now I usually use a T shirt, but I'm gonna try that microfiber towel you recommended. Thanks
I love jet black locs. It's my favorite color it looks soo healthy

Black is a good colour for you
thanks!
I never known that oiling my hair and scalp after a wash (when it’s wet) will prolong the time my hair will remain wet. I’ll keep that in mind
This loc color has me crushing on the locs, you look bomb

Please note that the towel should be a micro fiber towel. A normal towel has a lot of lint so yeah

Sis you are so right. I just washed my hair at night AND I oiled my scalp with thiccc castor oil 😂🤦🏿♀️ never again

I was wringing mine...oops! Thanks for the tips!

is your scalp dry or itchy when you do that? what are some cons you get when doing that?

Good advice, with using Micro fiber towels. And, I'm guilty of ringing out water, from my locs..SMH...Lessons Learned ! Thanks, Sis. *:)*

What about bonnet dryer? Those bonnet things that attaches to a blow dryer and distributes indirect heat to your hair. Could you use that?
Great tips Keisha! Btw can you do a skincare routine? You’re glowing 😍
Irakoze CB thanks! Okay sure!
Thank you! This was so helpful!
What type of microfiber towel do you use? There are a lot out there. Do you have a particular brand?
Other people say to wrap up ur hair before bed should I rap it up in a towel or because idk what to do now
Do you think doing space buns will help to dry them faster also?
What are your thoughts on a soft hood dryer attachment for helping to dry your hair?
I wish I looked for this video sooner, been drying my locs wrong for a while now
Great video :) I’m gonna check out your website.

How often do you wash your locs?
What are your views on drying in front of a fan or using a blowdryer on cool setting while hlding the cool shot button down thewhoe time??
Cool setting works best it get the locs completely dry but without the damaging heat
Thank you for making this video.
Thank you. This is what I needed
Wise words Keisha. I lived and learned all these lessons and what you said was all facts. 👌🏾
Girl, you give that black such fierceness!!
What's up. I'm thinking of trying out a heating lamp. Those things are strong.
is that the same as a space heater?
Keisha Charmaine Nah. It's a lightbulb that gives off a lot of heat. It'll fuck up an electrical bill though lol.
My locs have been leaving marks on my neck any suggestions? Maybe i wear them loose too much
Thanks for sharing your tips for our locs.i will try this next time.

What's the difference between day and night washing?
NYC Kali when you wash it in the day you have the full day for your hair to dry before bed. When you wash it in the night you’ll likely go to bed with a wet head which can lead to mildew in your locs
Well....going to bed with any hairstyle and hair wet is more than likely going to cause severe head colds as well.
Thr book is onderful ordred and arrived promptly read in one day
Fyona F thanks my love ❤️
How do you avoid flat locs when squeezing out the water ? I’m dealing with a few flat locs and I don’t want anymore. Any tips ?
Don’t lay on wet locs. It flattens them
can you blow dry them after a dry. Is it healthy or bad?@@kendranorth3787
