Synopsis: 'Press At War' reveals that a major reason for this carnage is actually money, and asks what kind of war reporting is demanded in the world's mass media. Big American networks pursuing CNN's success have huge budgets and their crews are able to film safely almost anywhere. Every news desk in the world can buy these exceptional reports, yet smaller companies want to send their own journalists - they know it is unethical to rely solely on other companies for footage. However, tight budgets mean that journalists at smaller companies have access to far fewer safety measures. The result is more unnecessary deaths each year. We talk to a Swedish cameraman who lost an eye, the parents of an Italian journalist killed in Somalia, and journalists who both work for big companies and as freelancers.

This is a very important documentary. As brave as the reporters are, there are still cameraman behind them, sometimes infront of them filming whats going on, putting themselves at extreme risk, more than usual, to get the shot.

I never heard of a $30,000 bullet resistant vest. Full body armor for a bomb tech is less than $5K in 1990.

I'm Somali and I would never even think about visiting Mogadishu even now in 2021. It's far too dangerous for everyone.

In my life as a photojournalist I've never heard of any vest that costs $30k, not even when you have to buy it while in country.
Even in Syria the most expensive vest with front, back and side plates costs us only $2500.
I call BS on this one !!!

Very interesting 👍 A documentary of the late 90s (I'm sure it got worse than better today) shows and proofs that and why we live in a kind of information bubble. Like a franchise system some big networks produce them, sell them and then.....it becomes news and reality cause "all news channels" broadcast the same stuff from the same source 🤷🏼‍♂️

9:20, Listen to what this man says. He could not be more correct, and this is not a new concept. This tactic has been used going way back, who knows how far. One thing that has changed is the ability for anyone to be a journalist on the spot at anytime. Now we are going through this limbo where it's control over what is posted on the internet and what stays on the internet. At the end of the day, I just don't understand why we can't give up on the concept of it being a great idea to spend resources on developing better ways to kill each other. Greed, hatred, murder, racism, is not going to solve our climate and environmental problems. Maybe everyone should take 5, ride a bike around the block, and just think about life, and how everyone deserves it.

well plenty of innocents do die and that's not fair or just.
but then not everyone deserves life; end the ruling class. the warmongers need a taste of their own medicine.
we can take all the bubble baths in our snuggies that we want. won't change what needs to be done.

@@legalfictionnaturalfact3969 Don't worry, I work five days a week designing things to make sure USAF is the best air force in the world. I do take pride in what I do, I still wish for less casualties though, that is only human.

@@ZeroCool-vn9bd ? until the individuals in usaf/military ( including my former bestie who is intel) gtfo of that trap and help in the fight to bring down the world monarchy and papal bloodlines... you will be part of enemy forces.
so don't worry. many of us are fighting for your freedom and that of your children until the day you escape bootlicking camp.

@@legalfictionnaturalfact3969 There are many different "front lines" today. It's naive to think that every single aspect of a combat situation is only solved by a person holding a gun. You do know it did take some designers to engineer every bit of kit used on the front lines after getting dedicated feedback from every entity involved. Imagine your role on the front line, if you had no air support, no drones, no reconnaissance aircraft, no way to deploy from the air behind enemy lines, no way to evacuate wounded, no way to drop supplies in the night to remote locations without giving up your position. The people I work with also sacrifice to give our people on the ground the ability to have an advantage and hopefully detour others from challenging. Just look at the fight in Ukraine over the past 48 hours. It would not be possible for those men on the ground to make the progress they have without specific technology, which a heck of a lot of good people came together to develop here. You make it sound like it's the USA's job to fix every world problem, but you have to pick and choose your battles and timing in life.

...ok? who said otherwise? you are the one framing it all like guns and front lines, not i. since you created a strawperson argument, i stopped reading there.
we must STOP going along and START tearing down the world monarchy and papal bloodlines. or hey, sell your children to your slavemasters. when the side of good wins, you can live on the fringes of society with the record of everything you didn't do for the resistance recorded by blockchain for all to read. should anyone need to. but they won't, because your weakness of character is apparent without the trouble of a background check.
