This is a great way to put it! Eternally fresh interpretation and phrasing, virtuosic but never too savage, the d minor is astonishing. The quality of her live playing cannot be exaggerated, she is one of the few giants who stand out among even the greatest pianists.
OMG! I was there lisrening to Martha....I remember she was wearing a red dress and played Scarlatri and Beethoven tofetjer with this Prelude. Thank you very muxh for sharing this, Max! Her puriry and liveliness haven't changed...cheer me up all the time!!
Listening to this truly astonishing recording (for me, one of the very best live rendition I've heard so far) always makes me somehow (selfishly) regret that she has never given any full recital over the past 35 years. She is such an amazing talent..
The 13, F sharp major made me cry. Never heard it in such an interpretation even though I’ve heard so many! It moved everything in me by its sheer beauty. The B flat major(16) and the g sharp minor (12) are also favourites. Ofc all of them are exquisitely played. I don’t agree with all her interpretation, but this doesn’t detract from their value. Thank you so much for posting this gem!
@shiny warm... Well said!... Martha is a jewel 💎 ...and her piano playing shimmers with colored sparkles ✨ flowing from it. As great+ multi-faceted as are Beethoven's sonatas; these preludes join depth with compact punch in a way that words cannot express. And Martha Argerich breathes life into these little gems that rarely equaled and never surpassed. BRAVA!
jfc she's good on the #15...wow. hard to listen to anyone else's rendition. in many places, too rapid, but for the slower preludes, she's got a delicateness about her playing that is astonishing. her strike is so distinctive and her deliberate keyboard sustain makes her just brilliant in so many places where lesser pianists are on the pedal
para algunos tocados por la suerte del destino youtube les genera la inmortalidad sera youtube la fuente de la juventud tan buscada? argerich es una de esos afortunados junto a un sinumero de generaciones de melomanos
Impossible to confuse this with anyone else's interpretation...this woman continues to amaze me, although this is a bit of a mess as an interpretation...as with all of Argerich's solo playing, this borders on just trashy...did she even like playing these Preludes...doesn't sound like she was particularly inspired by the music.

I agree. Some are so fast that alot of notes are just not heard. I like ashkenaxy's version. Martha's kreisleriana is the one recording I could listen to every day.
too much virtuosity and not enough Chopin´s music. Slavic music played in Spanish, too much rushing and showing off. There is one emotion missing, which no one but the Slavs know and for which there is not even the right word in other languages - žal.
Omg..is this from the same Tokyo concert with video here in UA-cam? At last, I finally heard the 24th prelude complete (as it was cut in that video). Thank you Max for this!
Escuchar este concierto ahora de la Argerich con tan buen sonido es como estar presente allí Gracias Max. Saludos cordiales desde Santiago de Chile Fernando Rivas-Burattini.

@@RaineriHakkarainen My poor sir! stop your speech that makes no sense. Argerich has one of the most beautiful sounds around, even if it bothers you, there's nothing you can do about it. And her genius is well worth that of the few pianists you cite.

you're probably right. But the question is not "Is it fast or slow?" - it's "Is it beautiful?" and "Does it speak to the heart?" For me, Argerich's Preludes are head and shoulders above any other interpretation I've yet heard

I think this is superhuman playing. Even when one might not play it that way, ones ears are glued to every note. Absolutely galvanizing!

Prelude in E minor tears my soul out of my body and sends it into the realm of angels.
MAGNIFICENT!!! Thanks for the great upload. We adore Martha.

She’s probably the only pianist I know who is able to play forte and presto without making it sound heavy (nr.16)
Spectacular! I couldn’t imagine it would be better than her studio recording, but what was I thinking? This is Argerich!
absolutely !!
La única, gracias por este regalo!!!!
Her DG recording of the Preludes is what I'd choose if I could listen to only one record for the rest of my life
try listening to Moravec too. His recording is unbelievable.

some string for my heart to play with
Argerich is into Chopin's preludes.
D-Flat Major, 16:18… otherworldly.
All those who pretend it is too fast are just jealous. She plays that fast... because she can!
Ms Argerich is my favorite performer for these preludes. The gold standard. Thanks for sharing!

Wtf como puede tocar asi aveces en inhumano xD
It's very beautiful, but it would be even more beautiful if some preludes were played just a little slower.

Incredible technique and interpretation! I bet Chopin himself would have been surprised by Argerich's rendition of these piano jewels.
SHE TRANSCENDS THE TECHNICALITY OF THE PIANO PLAYING. IT'S AWESOME!

On the first one she plays so fast you can't even hear the music.
