Idk about this one cuz cap gamon lucina and anyone with up b out of shield that moves sideways and comes out really fast but then they are open maybe idk
@@allen2reckless676 they need a lot of sideways movement, and it looks like the attacker still has options for stuffing out that punish depending on who it is, so while up b out of shield may still be good, it’s only good on far less characters now. For instance, Cloud up-b suffers massively, as may the oppressive GnW up-b, but the likes of Bowser are likely less affected
I want to see Ice Climbers twitter combos implementing these. Like, holdshot with down b seems legit broken. You just pushed back the IC's mains 12 years into reaching 25% of perfection
ICs are super affected by this, now that I think about it, bc their max air drift is good, but the time it takes for them to get up there is slow, AND they’ve got their desyncs for another layer for them.

@@33Pokenerd This is genuinely the best tech I could have asked for, instant bairs just in general are so freaking hard for me but they're the #1 thing I wish I could do consistently that I just haven't been able to. This really does change the game

Even if ultimate wasn't done with patches, this wouldn't make sense to get patched out. It's not some infinite nor is it a glitch that negatively affects the game. It's fundamentally quite simple and really just provides a great movement option by combining basic mechanics together
I’m in training rn labbing this the input is actually so quick This puts an extra layer into the game I can only do it on halfspeed so far (slowed down) this will make ultimate so much more advanced
I love this kind of stuff. As someone who took a break from smash due to school seeing people learn about phantom footstools, IDJ, and now this honestly makes me wanna return to the game and lab it out.
I haven't touched smash in a while, but Lucas was my main so seeing him being one of the most to benefit from this tech I might get back into smash if Nintendo doesn't patch it.

@@chrisbeach423 yea so he says. some people discover some weird tech (not just talking about wavedashing. same goes for stuff like L cancelling) and sakurai just pops in an claims it to be a feature. riddle me this batman if it's a feature why was it nowhere mentioned or kept in newer titles? they did realize it in development but didn't bother removing it and just forgot about it. it wasn't intentional.
@@Daylen151 it's not exactly intentional. Sakurai and his team found out about it while in development. It's more like a consequence of melee's physics more than anything. As for L cancelling, it's a feature originated from smash 64 probably meant to help players land into shield after an aerial easier. Hope this helps👍
this is definintly a tech people have known about and definintly not used much, i personally can think of doing a air hop away reverse arrow on link is the most common ive done. but this video definintly goes into depth on how and why its a thing and is solid
Yoshi has the fastest air speed in the game, this makes me happy. Mainly loving approaching BAir and baiting a reverse-neutral B. Slingshot is really good for most characters that have a meaty BAir and multi-hit FAir (or vice versa) because it essentially let's you both retreat or approach with either one.
Itll remind me of DBFZ if this really is effective. Like how moonjump/buffered dash super jump on DBFZ changed the gameplan on certain matchups. Not necessary but its very optimal as an answer for certain situations.
Gimr, I just want to say thank you for all that you do, I'm unfortunately unfamiliar with the work you do most of the time, like with vgboot camp, but I found out about you through your videos, and I appreciate it very much, I also appreciate vgboot camp. I managed to pull the flickshot off consistently this completely changes how you play the game. The movement options it gives you is insane I can't wait to hear M2K thought
It was predictable but obvious, the slingshot wasn't going to really change the meta. It's just one of those techs, even if tis one is more complex and useful. The lab can create and elaborate things for the world. But not change the world. This is the same thing for the slingshot.
I’m wondering about the implications of this in terms of shield breaks. Is it feasible for a puff to get 2 pounds on shield without being punished? Idk this feels meta changing.
Stopped playing ult a while ago, so take this with a grain of salt. This tech is all about aerial momentum, but pound kills or severely slows your momentum when you use it, so it probably doesn’t directly benefit from this. Instead, everyone (including Puff) will be much better at shrinking shields with their aerials, which could open up the threat of breaking the weakened shield with just one pound.
No, but puff has always just barely been able to do u-tilt into pound and that breaks, so with slingshots puff can DEFINITELY punish oos with pounds that will be near unpunishable
Imagine doing miss-inputs while training RAR and wondering why your character moves so strangely... Watching a video a few years later just to get the explanation for it LMAO
It’s time to reveal a tech that I’ve been keeping. I’m sorry. I’ve been selfish. When dashing hold the c stick in the opposite direction to get an intial dash burst. Ex forward right + flick C stick left. Works best on fast characters. Can conver a lot of distance and allows for instant turning because you’re in the initail dash animation. The result looks like you’re sliding. Try with sonic and puff to see the difference. I’m sorry and you’re welcome. Not sure what to call it. Initial dash burst, dash sliding, dash skim idk not good with names lol.
Gimr. Read My Comment. Share With The Community. Thanks For The New Tech. Mine Isn’t OD, But Could Add To The Meta. Also Try With Sheik. It Looks Crazy.
I have been doing this on mewtwo to hide his tail for more than a year... very disappointed that this is nothing new. Spoiler, m2 still sucks even with this tech. The problem is that you have to commit to a jump to save his tail, and then you're fucked
@@sugggggon No, you get full airdrift back with Mewtwo's insane air speed without his bogged air acceleration; being in that air state puts him in a relatively good position. Chances are you've just been doing regular air pressure which is why you keep getting hit The entire point of the tech is to reenter or engage in an airstate without: - turnaround animation - air acceleration startup You can do the first with a regular jump which is what I assume you're doing, but the fact that you're getting hit when you have a -3 aerial and top 3 airspeed implies you weren't doing slingshotting at all

@@allen2reckless676 they need a lot of sideways movement, and it looks like the attacker still has options for stuffing out that punish depending on who it is, so while up b out of shield may still be good, it’s only good on far less characters now. Condolences to you for your mom. Hope you guys find her in the spirit of the best things in life
I want to see Ice Climbers twitter combos implementing these.
Oh god I think you might be right. It could probably extend desync combos by letting you follow up farther away.
My condolences GimR. It must be one of the hardest things to go through.
Im as hyped about this as i am skeptical.

The movement inputs is something that needed to do Displacement Phantom with Zelda, but much less lenient to do, certainly it's an awesome thing!
Wait does it work. Will we finally have phantom knoght infront of zelda facing forward
I tried learning how to do that phantom displace for so long, I never fully got it. But this definitely feels similar to that concept, just a little easier.
@@AricinGrey That tech defeated me too.
I notice that a lot if top Zelda players don't even use it.
@@Jackaljkljkl it seems good, but unless you can do it consistently I don't see getting much use out of it.
Sorry for your loss, dude. May you mother Rest In Peace. Thanks for the tech
This is crazy for Lucario.
Crazy air speed, pair’ed with wavebounce neutral b, and a fair that can be thrown out twice from shorthop.
Hopefully people make something out of it
I've never seen anything like this. The way the characters move is so interesting and could definitely be game changing
Its the equivalent to wave dashing in melee in all honesty just instead of landing its the opposite lmao. Which holds true that this game is the opposite of melee
THIS IS GONNA MAKE HITTING JOKER’S FAIR 1 KILL CONFIRM SO MUCH EASIER TO HIT IN NEUTRAL THANK YOU SO MUCH
my exact thought
this is gonna make roy jab bair with full hop so much easier too lmao
@@33Pokenerd This is genuinely the best tech I could have asked for, instant bairs just in general are so freaking hard for me but they're the #1 thing I wish I could do consistently that I just haven't been able to. This really does change the game
Just from the first 30 seconds of the video I had to give a like.
VGBC Mom did a great job of raising you y'all to be kind people, rest in peace.
As a cloud main, I'm so excited to see how this affects my air pressure, especially with bair
I could imagine how many new movement options and combos are gonna be when Instant Double Jump is applied with the Slingshot variants.
I imagine Yoshi will get a tonne of mileage out of this, between egg throw/lay and neutrals... and if he messes up, he double jumps away for free
cant wait for *multi-fair drifting*
I used to do a similar movement with yoshi in smash 4 with fair.
Does this mean Pikachu's aerials are +100 on shield now?
oh uh
broken characters will become more broken but all the other characters will become better as well so it probably won’t change the tierlist too much other than a few outliers.

Might be the biggest tech discovery since Wavedashing! Just gotta hope it never gets patched out!
it probably wont since ultimate is done with patches
Even if ultimate wasn't done with patches, this wouldn't make sense to get patched out. It's not some infinite nor is it a glitch that negatively affects the game. It's fundamentally quite simple and really just provides a great movement option by combining basic mechanics together
Patching this out would mean they’d have to change the way the game works fundamentally and they aren’t gonna do that
Patches have been done for a long time now
*and phantom footstooling
Pit's aerials were never very safe, so I hope this is huge for him.
Pit air speed is trash
@@ABC-ik9vj Yeah, but so is Ganondorf’s and as you could see, it seemed to benefit him.
His nair is -6, Fair -9 with the range it has, dair is -8, bair is -3. They're pretty good.
But I suppose this would help his landing lag, which was what I was thinking of? There's 8-14 frickin frames of l. lag on each aerial.
@@ABC-ik9vj Well he can still use it for like a [bair -> slingshot -> arrow] which doesn't care about his air speed.
I’m in training rn labbing this the input is actually so quick
This puts an extra layer into the game I can only do it on halfspeed so far (slowed down) this will make ultimate so much more advanced
I love this kind of stuff. As someone who took a break from smash due to school seeing people learn about phantom footstools, IDJ, and now this honestly makes me wanna return to the game and lab it out.
Now we all go back to the lab again
Omg the potential of peach with this tech is insane

I never thought of anything at the time but I tried what he said and it felt very familiar to me and then I realized. Wow. That awesome that you find this tech. I never knew I was doing anything different. But I guess I know how to do it well. Now that I know it actually has more uses than just running back and fourth I'm gonna practice it more. Wow. sakurai pops in tomorrow: "yea this was intentional. not a bug it's a feature"
wavedash was intentional though lol some kids wrote about it in like 2003 and he confirmed it, or so he says 🤔

Slower moves like Blade Beam might be decent against this. Something like that might punish the drift in version.
lmao imagine reading this shit with a warlock punch
Itll remind me of DBFZ if this really is effective. Like how moonjump/buffered dash super jump on DBFZ changed the gameplan on certain matchups. Not necessary but its very optimal as an answer for certain situations.
Exactly what I was thinking!!!

Defeat and anxiety are only temporary...
The gimz always wins
It was predictable but obvious, the slingshot wasn't going to really change the meta. It's just one of those techs, even if tis one is more complex and useful. The lab can create and elaborate things for the world. But not change the world. This is the same thing for the slingshot.
But if you replace/add different planks and decorations to the ship is it the same ship, etc.

@@cise3895 Right. That makes more sense. As well as just being a movement option in neutral.
Puff can get up tilt into pound for a shield break with this
@@soulvynthis334 I just saw that video!! I feel validated now lol.
He finally found the lab
he made it to the lab
Mewtwo might actually just be broken. It feels so cool to do
Yeah he's probably the biggest beneficiary.
No more tail hurtbox lets go
If there's no dashback animation for even a frame his tail hurtbox extension issue is saved
Chances are you've just been doing regular air pressure which is why you keep getting hit
The entire point of the tech is to reenter or engage in an airstate without:
- turnaround animation
- air acceleration startup
You can do the first with a regular jump which is what I assume you're doing, but the fact that you're getting hit when you have a -3 aerial and top 3 airspeed implies you weren't doing slingshotting at all
Damn man... Rest in peace to your mother, I can't possibly imagine what you're going through right now... Thank you for this amazing video, I am sure your mother is proud of you in heaven!
