Hello! I would like to say thank you to everyone who has watched and enjoyed this video! You're absolutely clueless. Slippi was made years before rollback. Hbox was a wiener for 10 years spamming defensive moves in tournaments that had very little prize pools. All he did was kill the hype, if it wasn't for rest he'd have been more infamous than wobblers. Anyone who knows the basics know hbox was just bad at melee and played defensive. It wasn't until a few years ago that he did simple tech like jump cancel grabs. He would literally just press z even though puff has a huge jump squat window.
ur father fkd u during a melee tournament ; aka Mang0 has been washed 4 years Cody Scwab is lightyears better than him at this point; Zain is so free in GF ever tournament
Things to add this amazing storyline: - Armada just retired on 2018 prior to this so many players “demon” was gone from the bracket and might go deeper on bracket - Mang0 just got 3rd on the 2019 ranking when he should have got 2nd since he won the two most stack tourneys of that year (GOML 2019 and TBH9) and have decent placings thru other tourneys - Zain from losing literally two grand finals of Game 10s to Mang0 and Hungrybox , goes and wins genesis against both of them - Moreover , Zain was chosen to be the best Melee player on 2020 during the COVID era , dethroning Hbox and been the best on that era - Mang0 also was the only player that has won super majors on 3 different decades and can still be at the very top - In addition to that , Mang0 is the only top player of today that has played all the TOP PLAYERS AT THEIR PEAK. He was there to stop Mew2king reign , defend America from the Swedish invasion , challenge hungrybox on his clutchgod status , and it’s currently the only one giving Zain a run for his money. - After this tournament , PG stats decided to do a Top 100 Melee players of all times and decided to named Mang0 the GOAT after he won Summit 11.

38:20 Look at the absolute pinnacle of sportsmanship that is Hungrybox here. The hit connects, and before the kill is even confirmed he lets out a massive smile and instinctively offers his opponent a friendly fist bump. I bet if you showed someone that clip with no knowledge of the game, they would assume Hbox just won based on body language alone.
Ye fr, he even went ahead and said "The best 2 are sitting in the Studio right now, and that's what Grand Finals should be". Hbox gets some crap for being "lame" but he's a super hard worker and thus seems to appreciate others who do the same!
Fightings games in general are so unique because you have legacy players like Daigo and Mango still playing the game after years, even decades after. In the case of Mango it’s so amazing seeing such a huge influential player always push the boundary of when his prime is. The difference that melee has over other games though is that it is literally the same exact game no patches or anything, yet the scene is constantly adding new storylines and metas it’s fucking crazy.
I’ve always wanted to show my friends who aren’t into competitive melee this set but I always thought they wouldn’t truly understand the magic of this set. Despite the set already being a banger game 10, there are so many factors that just make this set even better. The mang0 zain rivalry, the fox marth debate, the history of mang0’s loser runs. But this video really captures what this set meant. Such a good video Edit: Also it was first big lan tournament since quarantine, it had the largest prize pool, and mang0 won TWICE on FD. What a set man
Fuck this was incredible. No fancy edits, just great selection of clips and brilliant choice for music! (serious nod to the doc in Chapter 7) Mad respect!

There are so many layers to melee. This video taught me about the Marth's pivot. I've heard about it, but never knew what it meant. Great vid. The only thing I wish you highlighted more was Zain's insane set record vs fox on FD. He was virtually undefeated on this stage specifically up until this point, so at the time when Mang0 went down 0-2 pretty much everybody thought it was over. Then Mang0 absolutely stunned winning 2 times IN A ROW on FD. Absolutely crazy stat shattering stuff. Of everything Mang0 did that day that's what blew my mind the most.
As someone who finds competitive Melee fascinating but doesn't personally follow the scene, I just want to say thank you to you and the others online who bridge the gap by creating these literal feature-length documentaries!

Sick video. To be honest, start to end, I though I was watching a video made by some big channel specialized in eSport or whatever, I didn't looked at your name nor the views until I scrolled through the comments and noticed people mentioning that you were a small content creator. So it's all the more impressive you managed to produce such a well structured video, with this amount of informations and a great editing all by yourself !
Just found this video now, and I wanted to say great job on such a large solo project! It takes a lot of determination to spend all the time on this kind of video as a small channel, so I got a lot of respect for that. Can't wait to see you continue to developing your video-making style in future projects!
M2K and other players have described it better, but if Zain was able to land this uair at 47:45, he'd likely win the set, since it links into a clean conversion (sans mom's spaghetti). M2K said that Zain was 1 frame late. It wasn't just grand finals, game 10, last stock. It was last hit. This game coming down to an actual razor's edge makes it legendary and easily my favorite set of all time. Excellent video encapsulating the experience.
You killed this video. Music choice on point, editing on point, and you can just tell how much you love melee and that's sick. Hope to see more from you in the future!
Fantastic video!! Over the pandemic I lost a little bit of the love I had for melee, but just like Hungrybox, the fire is back. And this set has a lot to do with it. My favourite part of all of this is the pure melee that was on display. The narrative is brilliant but I think what's more impressive is that this set fully speaks for itself; even without the storyline it's one of the best sets of all time. Thank you for immortalising its history
Incredible tournament! I specifically remember losing my f*ucking mind watching Mang0 win those two games in a row on FD! And then immediately lost faith when he lost the first game of the reset. The entire tournament was a rollercoaster of emotions, and is easily the best melee I've ever seen! Thanks for a great retelling! There is still so much melee left to be played :D
what an amazing watch dude. everything about this was amazing, from the full story of their rivalry, to the clips used (im especially a fan of the montage explaining why mang0 was so influential for the scene) and the music used were all amazing. not to mention all the passion that went into this through the research and editing which is just beautiful. I mean it when I say that if you were to improve your visual editing when you don't have gameplay to base it on you could give turndownforwalt a run for his money. I was really not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did!
I'm really happy you mentioned at the end that Melee will likely have an even greater story "maybe a year from now". And then aMSa won the most stacked Melee tournament ever. I believe that's a better story, but that doesn't take away from the achievement you have here with this video. Thanks for your hard work, and keep it up :)
I've never played Smash or looked into it. I've had friends that have talked about it etc. This came up in my recommended after watching some of the best combo re-run live streams - anyway, incredible video bro I can tell you put an immense amount of time and dedication into this. Mango legit had to feel insane after taking that win, incredible comeback.

Amazing video! Insane to witness live on twitch. Def the best set of all time; i thought so right after it happened, and 2+ years out it is still the best set of all time. Thanks for letting us relive it 😄
I definitely respect the effort put into this video -- research, scripting, editing -- and the clear love and passion for the game you have. Making a video with this much soul and effort and time invested is always a risky venture as a channel with not even 1000 subscribers (as of this comment) -- it could be so much work , for not even triple-digit people to ever even give it a chance. I'm happy that this video has made the rounds -- whether by people sharing with friends, or the algorithm blessing it a bit -- it certainly deserves to be seen. Here's hoping that by the end of the year, it's surpassed 100k and beyond. :) And if you end up making more quality content, I hope your sub count is 10k+ by this time next year as well. Good luck, and great video!
I cannot give you enough credit for the absolutely excellent music choices. Consistently fitting right in the vibe while also being bangers. I knew this video was about to be heat when Shikamaru's theme was literally like the second track you played. Chrono Trigger, and Ace Attorney make great set pieces too, really elevating the pre-match hype. Awesome job on the video boolmaster.
gg @boolmaster, this was real awesome and I see the influences from EmpLemon & EastPointPictures while your style is somehow smoother. I think it's the way you fit so much more info into a shorter doc but at the same time still have time for memes.
This tournament is the peak of Melee as of now atleast in my eyes. From the dominance of Ken, the robot that was m2k, the return of melee into relevance on mang0's shoulders, PP besting everyone with style, Leffen ending the age of the 5 gods, Armada's dominant reign, Hbox climb to rank 1 to Zain picking the torch up this tournament had the best build up of any event since Apex 2015, the best top 8/16 of any tourney and the greatest grand finals as well as the greatest set in melee history. I love how your video gets the complete picture of why this one was so special for all of us across while for example grtr4sh focused on the journey of mang0 from beginning to end. Melee is a story that never gets old no matter how dominant a Ken, Armada, Hbox and Zain can be there's still that flicker of flame burning in everyone else to break expectations and that's really what melee is about for me.
what an effort you made here man, you have a new subscriber :) l've been watching Melee matches and did't know about all players until nearly 2 years from now, but this is the kind of video that tells you everything you needed to know to put the missing gears you need to create the story that everybody who loves this game needs to know.
Honestly it's really refreshing to see a melee video that mentions Hbox in a context where he's not considered the best, but also doesn't shit on him. As a fan of Juan I'm aware he's not (currently) playing at the level that he was a few years ago, but I see so much hate towards him because of it when covered in even the slightest. It'd been so easy to frame him as a hack/hasbeen and props to you for not going for the low-hanging fruit.
I’m only like 10 minutes into this video but as an avid melee fan I can I’m already gonna love it! If you ever plan on making another video like this chronicling insane melee storylines, some good tournaments to cover could be: Apex 2015, GOML 2016, any of the EVOS really, Big House 2019, but there’s too many to count.
Hello! I would like to say thank you to everyone who has watched and enjoyed this video! Good video, but the audio mixing needs some working, some parts are loud and some are quiet.
Playing Guile’s theme during a Mango montage? Samox would be proud.
I took a lot of inspiration from the doc! Went back and referenced how he did montages and borrowed some stuff for sure
Things to add this amazing storyline:
- Armada just retired on 2018 prior to this so many players “demon” was gone from the bracket and might go deeper on bracket
- Mang0 just got 3rd on the 2019 ranking when he should have got 2nd since he won the two most stack tourneys of that year (GOML 2019 and TBH9) and have decent placings thru other tourneys
- Zain from losing literally two grand finals of Game 10s to Mang0 and Hungrybox , goes and wins genesis against both of them
- Moreover , Zain was chosen to be the best Melee player on 2020 during the COVID era , dethroning Hbox and been the best on that era
- Mang0 also was the only player that has won super majors on 3 different decades and can still be at the very top
- In addition to that , Mang0 is the only top player of today that has played all the TOP PLAYERS AT THEIR PEAK. He was there to stop Mew2king reign , defend America from the Swedish invasion , challenge hungrybox on his clutchgod status , and it’s currently the only one giving Zain a run for his money.

I'm happy that this video has made the rounds -- whether by people sharing with friends, or the algorithm blessing it a bit -- it certainly deserves to be seen. Here's hoping that by the end of the year, it's surpassed 100k and beyond. :)
And if you end up making more quality content, I hope your sub count is 10k+ by this time next year as well. Good luck, and great video!
comment made my day, thank you. If I make it big hit me up for a lambo.
Great video man, super well put together
Watching this live was such a wonderful experience. Tune in to the streams for smash tournaments, my dudes.
great video man, props to all the work you put into this, it really shows. respect the work
I assumed this was like a 100k channel based on the editing then I saw your sub count. Really impressive bro. Keep booling
Dope video, nice narrative building. Small note, the clip introducing pivot tippers around 17:40 is actually a wd forward tipper
Amazing, thank you for your works
Dang dude the effort and time you must have put into this and sourcing the clips and the script writing must have been insane. Great job!
Shikamaru’s theme is dummy hype
I see melee content creator, I hit subscribe button. Great stuff! Can't wait for more
This is literally amazing so so so well done!!
yo great song selection, especially that Daft Punk mix track and the 3rd strike bangers. keep up the good work man! looking forward to the new vids
This was a great video dude
Brought a tear to my eye... Amazing history goes with the most amazing game to ever grace this earth! Fuckin banger video, psyched to see more
gg @boolmaster, this was real awesome and I see the influences from EmpLemon & EastPointPictures while your style is somehow smoother.
Melee is a story that never gets old no matter how dominant a Ken, Armada, Hbox and Zain can be there's still that flicker of flame burning in everyone else to break expectations and that's really what melee is about for me.
what an effort you made here man, you have a new subscriber :)
l've been watching Melee matches and did't know about all players until nearly 2 years from now, but this is the kind of video that tells you everything you needed to know to put the missing gears you need to create the story that everybody who loves this game needs to know.
Absolutely PHENOMENAL video - thank you for the AMAZING CONTENT!! Keep em' comin'!
What an awesome vid man, good shit and sick editing :)
Ive watched this doc like 10 different times, never gets old
even though i don't play melee i enjoyed this video immensly! Btw your music choice is FIRE
amazing job on the video. loved the narrative you build and the music always fit
Also this deserves so many more likes than and views. Great video
Fun fact : Mango had rivalries with all the top players at some point in time. He is truly the GOAT of rivalries. Awesome video.
Fire video bro, deadass got the chills watching grand finals
NiGHTS music in the compilation boosted this from an A tier video to an S tier video in my eyes
