Dead Honda ATC200ES Big Red, No Crank, Start, Spark, or Lights ATV Repair!

  • This 1984 Honda ATC200ES Big Red will not crank, start, or spark without the application of an external jump pack directly to the starter terminals and a remote CDI to provide spark. In this video we will troubleshoot the hacked wire harness and return the starter, dashboard illumination, head and tail lights back to operation. Unfortunately, the onboard CDI will not function and needs some additional attention.

I don't know what it is about these old Honda ATCs, but they just have soul and want to live again.

You are freaking awesome! New to the ATC game. Have a 85 250 sx no spark situation. Still need sorted, replace all electrical components. Stator, pick up. Etc.... Now have another running 85 250 sx, and 85 350 x. It is great to watch what you do and to learn from you. Let's keep these sweet machines running! Thank you!

Great lesson and nice to see it riding again. That might be the wrong headlight and thats where the wires are supposed to go but I can tidy that up when it's time to ride on a regular basis. Thank you Harvey and looking for that amazing discovery your troubleshooting is sure to uncover.

Nice ride. At least you got er running. Good stuff. Hopefully replacing the OEM CDI with another one will fix it.

Thanks, I put the pit bike on a 1984 200es permanently. my friend is happy. I followed this video, I also installed led volt meter on handle bar. Now before start battery voltage is known. Many thanks now we have a driving atv and starts really well.

Pretty sure that all those connections in the front are housed inside the headlight shell. This is the case with '82 and '83 Big Reds.

Hey Donny!!! How is life? U R right, but, I think the head light was swapped, the wires don't look long enough to get into the headlight shell, but, after almost 40years, God knows what swaps could of been made!!! Thanks for Ur thoughts, knowledge, watching, and commenting!!!!

Them wire gremlins can be a real pain in the ass at times. Can’t wait to see what it is. Out of curiosity how many of these 3 wheelers do you have?

Do you think the oem system is being blocked, because when you rig up the stand alone system independent of the oem it runs ??? Will be interesting to find out the fault !

Hey John, I don't quite know how you tube pays, I believe it goes by the number of folks who watch, I'm not sure if one gets paid if someone watches the same video over and over, the more likes a video gets, the more YT puts it up on potential viewer's home preference page, which leads to more views, more likes, more views... I'm not sure how the number of subscribers fits in, but, I know, the more the better!!! Thanks always for watching, your loyalty, and commenting. If U wish to watch my videos more than once, it is cool, but, don't feel like U need to watch them twice or more so that I get more $, YT does not like that....Thanks again Bud!!!

Nice looker ! Runs as good as it looks ! Very nice “how to “ video ! I lost count on the number of completed ATC’s do you remember ? Which one is your BEST looking and driving machine that’s OE ? By keeping it OE isn’t it worth more on these machines ? Take care and I’ll talk to you later Bud !

Hey Dave, true OEM ATCs that are not bent and broke are worth the most $.... For most Honda ATCs, it seems like parts bikes are worth between $50 and $500 depending on what one can get, rat rod running they are worth between $450 and $600, nice condition, $800 to $1000, really nice, $1200 to $1800, kind of depends on location also.... I think the best looking ATC is the 1984 atc200s that I was doing donuts with a couple of weeks ago.... Thanks always for Ur thoughts, encouragement, watching, and commenting!!!

@@HarveySpooner in my opinion Honda by far is the BEST ATV , ATC , UTC made hands down ! Around here Polaris’s up the ass and cheap Honda’s on the other hand are few and far between and big money ! My 2019 is worth more today then when I purchased it ! Go figure !
