It's unfortunate that got blocked. I was looking forward to your reaction. It's weird how some of these reactions videos by certain people, but for others they don't' get blocked. My thought these reaction videos are a great way to share with the public, and give more exposure to the artist. As long as you're not monetizing it, it should be allowed. UA-cam tends to slap ads on those sorts of videos anyway.
You’re right Brenda…many felt then that Cherish would have been suitable for her earlier True Blue album. By 1989 though, she had finalized her divorce with Sean Penn and her creative inspiration for LAP album took on more serious themes and direction. Cherish and its video with its playful, carefree, romantic vibe was a welcome break from the feminist anthem of Express Yourself, the lament of Oh Father and the controversy elicited by LAP. This and Dear Jessie maybe the last time Madonna would capture in a song her childlike fun and imagination.
Fun fact: the video was filmed in a beach near Malibu, CA where Madonna was residing then. The 3 adult mermen were players from the water polo varsity team of nearby Pepperdine University.
It was uncommon to use mermen in art, as mermaids were more often used and were portrayed as fairy like creatures. The mysterious and elusive character of the mermen in this video became a metaphor for the then gay community as queer people living largely unseen in the fringes of mainstream society. In a way, it evoked the marginalization of the gay community that Madonna had developed deep empathy with. Really appreciate your insightful reaction and Madonna journey.❤😊

Cherish, Oh Father, and Keep it Together are only performed live at Blond Ambition Tour. May I suggest we go straight to the show?
Also, I’ve seen Blond Ambition from France, and Japan. I found her vocals much stronger in Japan. Which also features the famous pony tail.
I recall she had a throat infection while on tour. This may be the reason her vocals are not as strong in France.
Just a suggestion.

This was the first time photographer Herb Ritts directed a music video. Him and Madonna were very close and collaborated many times until his last days. She actually gave a beautiful eulogy at his funeral back in 1998. About the video: apparently the water was freezing cold and Madonna had to stop all the time to get warm in between takes. She said it was one of the worst ideas she’s ever had to shoot in cold water 😅

This was a big hit hitting #2 on the Billboard Charts yet nowadays compared to the other singles from this album, especially Like A Prayer and Express Yourself, it tends to get forgotten a little. I think it was a nice change for the public after the intense Like A Prayer with its important but controversial video and the power anthem Express Yourself to have this cute, feel good song as single #3 with just a simple pretty video.

As far as I know both Oh Father (as medley with Live To Tell) and Cherish has only been performed live at The Blond Ambition tour.

I also think that her look in this video is much like the hair cut and make-up of teenage Madonna from her "Papa Don't Preach" video. Which of course is from the "True Blue" era.
Madonna in her early years living in Lower Eastside of NYC before stardom was known as the Pied Piper of the neighborhood… she often hung out with them on the sidewalks break dancing or listening to music.. they’re are various early photos of her taken with the local kids and her on the roof top of her building dancing to music…. And by the way… the inspiration look of Madonna was inspired by BRIGETTE BARDOT the sex siren of the 60’s …. The outfit was what BRIGETTE wore with the shirt hair as well

Loved the way you both thought about the meaning of cherish and it’s affect in media. I’ve always thought cherish was true blue’s older sister. They go hand in hand. The video was filmed by late photographer Herb Ritts Cherish unfortunately stalled at #2 like Express Yourself.

Unfortunately, Madonna only performed Cherish, Oh Father and the final single from Like A Prayer on one tour which is the Blond Ambition Tour. So you may just want to wait until you react to that whole tour to do that. Dear Jessie was released as a single in some countries and got a video, but only has an animated Madonna in the video, but it's cute.
As for Cherish, that video was directed and filmed by Herb Ritts the photographer. He was responsible for the True Blue album cover. If I recall correctly, this is the first time he directed a video, but it snowballed into him directing other videos by Janet Jackson, Chris Issak and many other artists. There tends to be a similar vibe in his video where they are all outside, dancing if not at a beach.
Hoping you'll react to Dear Jessie next. Keep It Together doesn't have an official video, but you could react to the audio version.

Hello, this video was shot in the middle of winter, Madonna hated the director because he froze, but then saw the result and was very happy. For the live shows of Cherish and Oh Father there are only the versions of the Blond Ambition Tour, you can choose a different version from the one you will react to. There are live shows in Japan, New Jersey, Barcelona, and Nice

Super stylish 💯 who looks that good all wet and in the sand ? It’s amazing how she can show minimal skin here but she’s still so sexy. The late Herb Ritts was genius. Also I love the way she brought the Mermen to life in Blond Ambition. I loved your point about her featuring kids in her vids. I always thought it had something to do with the loss of her mother early in her life and impacting her childhood.

One of the reasons this video was shot in black and white is because the water was very cold, causing Madonna's already pale complexion to look even whiter.

If you're going to be wet and rolling around in sand, but want to look gorgeous, it helps to have Herb Ritts behind the camera!
He was an amazing photographer but had never directed a music video until Madonna asked him to make this one. When he said he didn't know how, she told him he had a couple weeks to figure it out.
He passed away in 2002 and Madonna spoke at his memorial service.

She certainly loves kids. Now she got 6 of her own and seems like a great mom. She wrote about her kids on later albums as well. They are everything for her.

I’ve always taken this video as her being a mermaid who’s enjoying the use of her legs and then at the end, she looks like she’s letting the child enjoy his legs. Plus, the day they filmed this, the water was actually freezing cold and the fact, they all made it look warm is crazy.😊

What people don't pay attention to at the end of the video, is the boy having human feet instead of a fish tail, while she lays there transforming into a mermaid.

Although the video is simple, it's so fun to watch, maybe cause it's made in a beach. I think i readed in the past that some scenes were made in a pool, i assume must be the underwater scenes. I also love this song cause it's so catchy and fun. Don't know if there's a live show of this song aside the one that made in the Blond Ambition Tour, but as i assume you are going to a whole Blond Ambition Tour reaction (for me, her best tour), you can skip the live reaction for this song.
