I left for awhile, whatever happened to DeeJ? I think that’s what his name was anyways. I seem to remember the player base always trying to scalp the poor guy.
@@jasonmarcus1683 in all other aspects of armor focusing in the game that I can remember, we can influence the stat roll by using specific stat focusing ghost mods. id imagine its much the same with exotic stuff.
On the topic of Neomuna Patrol, I wouldn't mind the difficulty of the enemies if the spawns reflected the fact we are supposed to feel "unsafe" or unwelcomed if you will. I feel like I'm running around a barren wasteland and when I finally come across an enemy they are typically an annoyance considering their dmg capabilities. Glad to see they're adding more spawns so that it feels like a force of darkness rather than one hobgoblin fucking up the patrol you're trying to get over with.
Everytime I do a public event, there's literally no one there. It's only with Terminal Overload (that I opt into the matchmaking for from the destinations/map tab) that I consistently see folks. This started only after Bungie improved it like a week after Lightfall came out. It's fucking crazy that there's more people doing the Scorn payload event on THRONE WORLD than even the mere Cabal public event on Neomuna. Not much I can do against a tank, a thresher and hordes of enemies balanced around at least 3 people while out in the open with Neomuna difficulty. Why is the fucking raid easier than this?
I agree, I was bored to tears on Europa when doing patrols/general exploration. I enjoy Neomuna's difficulty level, but could stand not being soundlessly sniped by Threshers. Those are just cheap shots.
@@marinawolf no ive done a 12 hour runabout grind around neomuna and I have rarely if ever encountered anybody that did pub events or anything other than the override I have done the dance of going to orbit and then returning to Neptune and... No changes
Really like the opinion right with the single issues/points. I want to emphasise the note Datto had up: Jez made such a thorough, well written critique of Lightfall's campaign, while being funny and cringe. If you normally don't watch his content, make an exception.
tried watching the first 2 minutes and it was unfunny af. Constant quips about nerdy shit like Harry Potter. Lmao basically the same as nimbus’s character
I also enjoy difficulty and change but to be fair that battleground boss room on GM being literally never ending spawns with no pause between them at GM health values was going to be a miserable time; it sounds like it’s still infinite spawns but clearing a wave will give you a chance to wear down the boss for a moment instead of killing a wizard and having the next two spawn directly on top of where it died
If Bungie wants lost sector grinding to be more important then change the focusing option into ghost mods. Still have the armor rotation as normal but then we can target more precisely what we're looking for. It still requires completing challenging lost sectors but takes randomness out and focusing more on armor stats then praying for a specific piece.
What do you mean by that? Like, have a ghost mod that says ‘i want Dunemarchers’?, Or a mod that says ‘solo lost sectors will drop boots’? (Genuinely just asking for clarity lol)
@@Glucenaphene Ghost mod that you slot for let's say increased chance for Forsaken exotics. Exotics that drop should only be from Year 2. You'll still have the same drop rate but it'll targeted drops instead of the entire pool.
@@steeltywars1 that *could* work, but i think they would have to make a couple groups. Probably 3 mods for: Year 1, Years 2+3, and Years 4+5. Cuz some years only have just one or two for a specific slot. But even that would be a slight issue cuz ‘years 2+3’ would literally only be One-Eyed Mask for titan helms for example, while ‘year 1’ would have 5 different helms. (Issue being that it would probably be just a little bit *too* focused for bungie’s liking lol, at least for lost sector farms)
The one reassuring part about the narrative moving forwards is that the quests that will delve into Lightfall's unanswered questions will be part of the EXPANSION, not the Seasons, meaning they will persist even after this year is over, which is a relief.
I don't think patching in major story elements that should have been in Lightfall's release was the plan from Bungie in the first place. They definitely had the aspect quests lined up for releases through the year, but slapping major story beats on them? Feels like Bungie realized their first-draft-story for Lightfall was too barren only after we got our hands on it and pointed out that there is nothing in this soup but green strings and an odd mushroom. Definitely trying to bandaid up a bullet hole with this, Bungie. Imagine an author sending out additional chapters to everyone who bought his book so that they'll understand what the story was about since he never bothered to explain anything in the story.
Also feels like half of you haven't played a live MMO before. Bungie doing these questlines and making them part of lightfall means the expansion overall only gets better. And when people play it in future it explains it fully. It's a good thing
@@dochedgehog Of course getting told what's happening in the story is a good thing, but most people prefer that explanation being in, you know, the story. And trying to excuse Bungie's lazy storytelling this expansion as "Destiny is an MMO" just sounds... dumb.
@@dochedgehog If they wanted a WoW style player driven expansion, they could have made the fact more explicit, and I heavy doubt this is the direction they are taking right now as the expansion appears to be story filler from A to Z.
@@joshuavidrine889 I honestly thought from the beginning of lightfall that they were going for a more traditional mmo Style of the storytelling with content being released over time. I feel like Bungie has done a lot in lightfall to double down on mmo features that are other games. Commendations come straight from FFXIV for example.
They also need more ways to farm for Ascendant Shards. Outside of running GMs, there aren't a lot of ways to farm for shards that would let the more casual players get more than what amounts to a handful per season. Not exactly making Exotic armor more accessible. And then you need another 3 to master work it. So you are going to have 6 of them sunk into a single piece or armor. That's insane.
@@shivansh4368 I'm not quite that cynical, but I do understand the sentiment. My problem is, spending several hours just to farm shards in order to buy one and masterwork it with limited options to farm shards. If the only solution is Master Nightfalls (not casual friendly, in my opinion) or GM's when they are finally released, then they are way too expensive. At least Grand Master NF you have a chance to get an Adept weapon. Master NFs are in a weird spot where the difficulty is relatively high and the rewards are pretty underwhelming.
That orb mod is gonna be insane with recuperation and better already, basically giving every class a pocket heal/regen on class ability use as long as theirs orbs around (unless bungie codes it to not count as being picked up)
Gonna heavily depend on the radius and also which armor piece it's on. So I wouldn't be surprised if it's gonna be a Legs Mod to balance that out. i.e. you can have your pocket regen but it means you have to go without scavs or surges etc.
I'm gonna miss the enemy density of Heist Battlegrounds because it felt intense, but it also make some play styles a feel very powerful in their ability to clear adds. For example, making an entire room constantly explode with ignition builds feels amazing because it's difficult to do when enemies die to scorch before they can ignite and ramps up over time.
My only issue with the upscaling of difficulty in stuff like Patrols, Vanguard Ops, and the Seasonal Activity Battleground, it's just a pain in the ass to get bounties done with their current structure, as you can't really make builds based on "The War Table needs me to use a Sniper Rifle Sword, and Trace Rifle." Especially in Battleground: Defiant, most players still can't efficiently complete those activities in less than half an hour, and it just feels like a slog to get through.
Completely agree on how restrictive Exotic Armour focusing feels at first blush. Like, the community wanted an easier method of target farming because of how annoying it is to, even in lost sectors being limited to a single slot, actually get the piece of armour you're chasing and also get the stat distribution you want. So with the way the article was worded in terms of how focusing works, it sounds to me like praying to RNGesus in GMs is still going to be the most efficient way of "target farming" Exotic Armour which is just kinda lame. Even if they increase Cipher Acquisition methods and remove the 1 per week earn limit (not including season pass ones), I still don't see focusing being used much at all for the reason people wanted it for because of all the limitations it's going to have out the gate. Especially when the highest drop chances of exotics will still auto-decrypt once focusing goes live. So all you're left with is resetting vendor ranks 2+ times as being the most reliable method of getting engrams to use for focusing.
as usual, Bungie proving how out of touch with their community they are...... oh whats that? the community wants to focus 1 exotic to farm? lets let them focus 1 exotic for a stupid high cost per week, and they will Still drop with piss garbage stats were so good at our job :D -Bungie
They have been telling this story at least in d2 for 6 years now. I'm not as forgiving and not on the "hope they learn from this" train. They chose to tell the story like this. We have 3 more seasons (assuming this season is already done telling stories) to bridge the cap between lightfall and final shape. So far I don't know what hostage rescue/Amanda dieing has to do with what happened in lightfall but I guess I will let it play out. I will still get final shape because at this point I might as well see how this ends. Can't wait to spend $120 on that when it comes out. Considering they have been upping the price for the deluxe each expansion. Edit: a reminder they said the seasons were going to tell more of the story
the stuff for lightfall is not tied to the season its tied to lightfall itself meaning once final shape drops all the stuff we get from 21 onward stay and any folks joining during final shape get the full story of lightfall
I think it's really tied down to a rough development year (COVID). There's so many things (to me) that look like repurposed assets and methods in order to tell *a* story, but with all of the 'Strand green WQ green' and 'Deepsight lets you see into the world' and 'the final Darkness power was supposed to let you reconstruct things (CloudStrider monuments) it just really feels like they didn't have enough time to do everything they wanted and threw together something that was sellable instead. That being said the method in which they delivered a lot of this redirected content is supremely ass in a lot of respects, plot holes and 'quirky characters' galore. Not really what I had in mind when I preordered.
Really the season is just the other front of the war in lightfall. We’re at war with Calus on neomuna while the shadow legion is also invading earth(why, I don’t know) so Amanda has just been a loss we’ve suffered in war
@@Subsistence69 exactly while defiance does happen (I belive during the events of the campaign I cant be sure) the story for ligthfall and the stuff to help piece it better are only related to ligthfall they just happen to be in seasons
The 85 exotic weapons thing is actually insane. I started playing during Plunder. There are SO many exotics that I can ONLY get on a weekly basis from exotic ciphers from Xur. If you didn’t play the game during red war, you’re essentially time gated on this one
I think each commendation should have a emblem connected to it when you reach a certain amount of those specific commendations. Of course, it needs to be a decently high amount to earn it.
I really hope lost sectors drop more loot, the issue with difficulty is that it doesn't feel very rewarding. Even when the exotic changes roll out I fear it won't be enough
While I usually agree with you on the side of things regarding difficulty at the higher levels…LEGEND Mars battleground to me felt more difficult than any of these strikes in rotation ON MASTER. Idk if it’s because it plays differently than normal strikes but regardless, I have done every strike on grandmaster multiple times including sunset ones; this strike I feel would have potential to compete with lightblade if not, harder. Waiting until it comes around, I was not looking forward to it I really think the nerfs were deserved.
My only gripe with guardian ranks is no cosmetic rewards to incentivise grinding out those ranks and show off. The number is nice but it's not enough, gimme like an emblem or class item or something every season similar to the new Comp rewards.
@@goldentornado90 it's likely that they've seen the feedback regarding rewards for guardian ranks and don't want to announce anything until they have a concrete plan. Personally I think it'd be awesome if there was a cosmetic reward each level above 6 that escalates in value. Start with a transmat or projection, then a ghost/ship/sparrow for the next few, then cap it off with stuff like class items, shaders, Momentos, emblems, and possibly emotes.
@@Invicta707 I do like that, but I think it'd be cool if it was like the old Auras from D2 vanilla, different color for each rank that you could equip to show off
It's like, in looter games, we're fundamentally just grinding for higher numbers. Guns with higher damage, robes with more max mana, armor with more max health, etc etc. But with guardian ranks, they were so fucking lazy that they gave us *just* a number to grind for. And not even a stat or anything, literally a numeral ranging from 1 to 12 or whatever. A literal number. Not even a cosmetic attached to it. The number *is* the cosmetic. What the fuck.
I am also concerned about the Ascendant Shard cost for focusing. Like I get it, they want it to feel expensive and important. But we can only carry 40 at a time across our entire accounts, and the only way to really EFFICIENTLY farm them is GMs, which are only available about half the time. Maybe that'll be less of a concern if the week 4 thing is just how it's gonna be now.
The lost sectors could be changed by created a spoils of conquest like currency and then using that currency to focus a piece of armor from the current pool like we see in raids. Ex: if its an legs day you could focus star eaters. Or another change that may work better is allowing the lost sectors to drop engrams like the seasonal battlegrounds that could be focused for a specific exotic or just decrypted for a random exotic at a vendor like Ada ( To bring more use to the character, and it would pair well being as she's part of the black armory ). This method would also be able to make use out of the engram tracker. Neither of these are perfect, but just ideas that I thought of while mindlessly grinding.
Its interesting to me that they have publicly stated that light level won't be increasing with each season, so why is light level one of the objectives that supposedly resets with each season. Theoretically, it should never actually reset until the next expansion, which they have already indicated they will be removing power before then Edit: also the whole "grind out your artifact to make lost sectors easier" is such a dumb take. I shouldnt be forced to run bounties for weeks upon reset to be able to do lost sectors each season
THIS fucking bungie and datto being out of touch with this communities core playerbase as usual, its infuriating, all just to what? Enjoy a measly 5% drop chacne for a exotic in a legend lost sector, then see if its even the exotic you want, let alone the stat distribution. Games shouldnt be so catered to the streamer hardcore playerbase, and YES i am one of those hardcore players sticking out for the casuals, because even i want to kick back and just relax abit, with how Destiny is now, it feels like a absolute chore just to play it that ive taken a break and gone back to playing other games and im realising how much better they have it. if i want to fight hard enemies i can, Warframes Steel Path and Archon Hunts, Endurance runs ect, and then in Division 2 i can set my World difficulty to Heroic, or go run Legendary Missions. or try for Raids.
The system they need to do is make armor slot focusing not require ascendant shards nor ciphers, while specific exotics require 1 cipher and an 1 ascendant shard. You should get ciphers from grandmasters (uncommon-rare drop), completing a master raid (once a week), xur ciphers, the cryptarch (trading in multiple ascendant shards for it or something), and lost sectors. With this, they should increase how many ciphers it takes to get a legacy exotic weapon / the sparrow.
As someone that is *very well aware* of how few players actually do raids, the fact that everyone including the people who have never completed a single raid started at rank 6 with me felt like a slap in the face.
Since they are increasing cipher capacity to 5, how come prisms and golf balls aren't getting increased capacity as well. What's the point if they do increase stuff if we are still short on other materials.
This is unrelated to the content of the video, but I just wanted to say thanks, Datto, for still being here and doing what you do. Whether it's guides, rants, vault deletion, or what have you... thanks. It's always good to see you post a new video, truly. Take care, and be well everyone. ❤
i feel like the new mods are a really solid new foundation of a mod system. but we had a time where we got new mods every season:( and now its just like "players were missing stuff" TWO new ones NEXT season
Exotic armor focusing really feels like it's "engagement driven" in that yes, the primary source of exotic engrams will be rank resets and that's a great way to keep people playing on the treadmill.
Some of these changes feel a little... tone deaf? I guess thats how I'll put it. The exotic focusing, like datto says, is highly restrictive. I, personally, dont have a lot of ascendant materials, and dont play a lot of GMs when they come around, so it's not just ciphers that are the problem for me.
Oof. Got really excited for the exotic armor focusing but the golf ball cost is going to make that quite a lot harder. Granted I haven't done GMs historically or master raids. Got all my golf balls from season pass, Rahool and from vendor rankups. Maybe that's what finally gets me to give it a shot. Also uh. Bummer to not hear anything about RON Day 1 difficulty.
My issue with exotic focusing is that it doesn’t apply to the activities already in-game that ARE meant for exotic acquisition. And the expense of focusing prevents newer players from acquiring specific armor they want for a build. Exotics are meant for buildcrafting, I cannot rationally see why Bungie is trying so hard to prevent people from acquiring them! /or at least get decent ones. I would 100% take a 64/63 good stat distribution on an exotic I WANT to use, then a 68 with 30 mobility on warlock, for an exotic I will never use… As someone who’s played for a very long time, and wants to share the world of destiny with my friends, I find it impossible to do so. Not only do I have to buy the expansions for my friend, but I now have to tell them to grind the game if they want to play how they would like… why Bungie?
Probably because there isn't that much to grind in general. Legendary armour from 99% of activities is now worthless given you only want to run artifice. Weapons got replaced by crafting en mase which makes even adept master raid loot not worth grinding for. There is quite literally nothing left other than exotics. And honestly, it makes sense. Stat rolls are genuinely the least impactful way of buffing your effectiveness as a guardian. Everyone has the ability to put on stat mods to get 100 Res and okish numbers in the rest. That's all you need. There is no activity in the game that requires a hyper focused stat line, and very few builds really take advantage of it either. Any average player with average armour can make a "build" with exotics and subclasses and mods alone. It is only the end game players with nothing more to do that actually grind exotics for stat rolls. That is why they make them a pain to get. It's targeted at the people who already have nothing else to do, so why would they make it easier?
Still don't know why the hell they haven't brought back Exotic Glass Needles, it seems like such an obvious choice to give you a material that you could maybe get from a lost sector to reroll preexisting armor pieces.
I just can’t wait for people to start focusing exotics at a cost of 3 shards, a cipher, tons of glimmer, all to get an exotic at 1 energy with 55 stats. Gonna be hilarious.
Thank you for acknowledging how restrictive this seems, what in the heeeeell? Only once per week and only relying on xur, I was thinking, what if dismantling an exotic gives a chance at a cipher? A lot of us can get to the point where we farm Lost sectors efficiently and thus stock up on the exotic we don't want, or sht stats, so dismantling for a chance at a cipher sounds like it'd be another ok avenue. But we need a better alternative source. Maybe we shouldn't be able to be swimming in resources to focus, but only once a week? come on.
I do really appreciate the transparency regarding the technical limitations. Acknowledging community feedback and giving some context about the constraints they have to consider when they make design choices
Honestly, for me? I love almost everything they put out in this update. It addresses a lot of my major concerns regarding stuff like exotic armor and guardian ranks, and you can tell that they REALLY have been listening to a lot of the specific complaints people have been making. They address almost every single concern I've heard about Lightfall since it came out (except for the Raid stuff and the things that have already been patched/fixed). There are one or two areas I'm not sure about, but I'm willing to accept their explanation and intentions. For example, while I did have some difficulty with Legend/Master Lost Sectors and light levels initially, in hindsight I find their argument very persuasive.
I think bungie wants exotic decrypting to be additive to lost sector farming. When it has potential to completely rework exotic farming in general with a cipher rework as well
I like that they wanna keep things difficult and are running some small things that make sense. I would like to see the laser ball thing you shoot at the end of battlegrounds either removed or just require one. It’s a pretty dull and tedious thing to do.
Christ with how restrictive that exotic focusing is you'd think Bungie hates their own game. All I got out of it was instead of being forced to slog through a LS underleveled for the newest exotics I can wait around for strike force instead. The rest(concerning exotic acquisition) sounds like overall negatives for the game.
I can't get new exotics for the love of me and I'm missing a dozen of them. I'm not at all excited when I do actually see a exotic engram drop because I know it won't be new. Hell, my last one was *Sanguine* ...yeah. Also I haven't purchased Lightfall yet (I'm not paying full price for it) so I'm unsure if Vex Strikes will help me?
Genuine question, is there a reason you haven’t bought full price? Do you just not have the money?, or do you just not think its *worth* the asking price? Just curious what people think.
@@Glucenaphene Hello, sorry for the late reply (UA-cam never tells me when I get one). I don't believe Lightfall is worth the asking price. I was going to wait 2 weeks to read reviews and then decide to buy it or not, but it didn't even take a full 24 hours for the reviews to plunge. Then you had content creators even say it's not worth full price, some calling it a scam. After seeing the story for myself vicariously through a friend, I agree. I'm waiting for a sale.
Exotic Engram world drops are incredibly rare. Its like 1 for every 3000 kills and depending on what content you play, that can be once 6 hours or like 40 hours. My other issue is that fact that part of the cost is an Exotic Cipher, which basically has one source in the entire game and can earned once per week per account. Also, “high” stat rolls are bugged now and have been giving out 58-63 stat rolls nearly all the time. The odds of getting the stats on precision focused exotics is still be gonna be ridiculously low. Imagine finally getting that random Exotic Engram world drop after not seeing one for 30 hours, spending all those materials including the once per week cipher, just to get a HoIL with 61 total stats with 22 Intellect and 19 mobility with 4 Recovery and Resilience.
About the lost sector difficulty complaints being mostly caused by lack of level, that probably wouldn't happen so much if the power level grind wasn't such a bore. It's just like having to wait until the very end of the campaign to get Strand. You're supposed to wait until you've finished your power grind before you can start experimenting with the new exotics. It's a chore ! Nobody's got time for that ! Especially since it's nuked every season, why should we even bother ? They even make it irrelevant for a bunch of activities by capping max power level way below the cap. They should just delete power level from the game and keep damage scaling as if all players were X under cap. Or at the VERY LEAST untie it from individual loot slots, so our progression isn't entirely dependent on RNG, like we've been asking for years. Why not start with this if they actually listen to feedback ?
I am going to throw Bungie a bone with the exotic focusing system, though not a big one. I still think you're right in that it is a quite limiting system. Anywho, my proverbial bone is: So long as the armor you focus is guaranteed to be a high stat roll (Nothing lower than 63) I think one guaranteed roll of an exotic you actually want per week is a decent rate. I have been grinding every single Exotic Gauntlets lost sector for 1-5 hours each time they come around, and I have gotten almost every Warlock gauntlet except for the one I want. Maybe it'll still suck with the change they're making, but at least I will GET what I'm looking for, even if its a roll I'm not stoked for.
No it's really not. People who target farm exotics shouldn't be hard limited because of systems like this. If you need a specific exotic for your build and a roll of it that works in the current stat system you only get a chance a week for it. It's tone deaf as fuck.
@@SoccYT I understand where you're coming from, and I do honestly hope that Bungie does something to improve the rate players can acquire Ciphers, but in my opinion it is still an improvement over what we have now, which is only a slim chance to even get the exotic we want from hours of grinding every four days. But, knowing Bungie, this might be all we get next season - and if that is the case I hope Bungie at least has the decency to make the focused exotics guaranteed high stat drops. Ideally we would be able to focus them as much as we can farm for them, but as long as we aren't getting exotics with stat rolls any lower than 63 I will be fine with it.
The thing I dont like about needing all the new dlc content with guardian ranks is right now the added loadout slots are only available when you rank up past veteran which is only possible with beyond light and the season which is at least 60 bucks for some convenient loadout slots.
If Bungie isn't trying to limit the amount of armor focusing you can perform, it would be really cool for lost sectors to drop exotic ciphers instead of the completely random exotic in the specific slot of that day. Maybe have them drop exotic engrams a bit more reliably and have a very rare chance at a cipher. I dunno what they're trying to do lol
There’s no reason I should pay $50 to get a campaign expansion and have to pay another $30 on top of that to get the story that should’ve been a part of it already
my ONLY beef with the Mars Battleground is that with a match made team the first section of OPENING THE BRAYTECH FACILITY after getting the escalation protocol back online could take anywhere from 5 minutes to 14 minutes. A matchmade strike shouldn't take 29-40 minutes, IMO. Depending on the skill, you could cruise through that strike within 19-24 minutes. Or if you had the team I got while it was nightfall and take 45 minutes and get a score of 8k because it took so long.
Diffuclty wise I think legend lost sectors are perfectly fine. Haven't had any issues with them in that regard. Drop rate just leaves a lot to be desired though, even after the buff and that's the problem.
I'm really glad you brought up the amount of exotic weapons needed, it's definitely a crazy amount especially with how inefficient exotic ciphers are to get
Good stuff, now personally I would like it if bungie addresses/change farming materials like enhancement cores cause personally I’m starting to go broke on those but having max stacks of prisms and shards. If I had to come up with a solution I’d say maybe make legend and master lost sectors drop a higher amount depending on if all champions are defeated.
They just recently guaranteed enhancement core drops from lost sectors, but I do think there should be a straightforward conversion of turning prisms into cores.
We need a glimmer/shards farm, cuz all these gear/armor focusing is starting to be costly. 60k glimmer for 1 exotic roll is wild. Also increasing the cap of materials would be great
Haven't read the article but hopefully it wasn't as politiciany as the interview skillup did with one of the bungie leads. That guy just dodged every question like prenerf shadestep
....We all advocated for non decaying guardian ranks, my guy. But, yeah, I'm glad they saw that MANY people were not happy about the decaying guardian rank each season. Solid change.
watching Bungie try to make changes to keep their player base engaged is like watching a child drown in front of a crowd doing nothing but cheering it on.
Like I know there isn't much to say about the story for Lightfall cept that it sucked. But, I wish that Bungie said something more about it, or at the very least made it seem like they had a solution to make sure that this type of terrible story would not happen again.
No dev team would ever outright say that something like writing, art or music in their ongoing project sucked unless they were willing to shoot themselves in the foot and find new employees. You should never expect brutally honest public statements about a project until either a lot of time has passed or the project as a whole is seen as a failure and has been abandoned.
@@shadow_blaze2317 Yeah that does make sense. It’s like I wish they would address the problem directly but I understand why they won’t cus ur right that means they gotta fire people.
Lightfall feels more like a prequel like we weren't there when the traveler didn't shoot it'd beam, but the final mission takes place during the start of the beginning cinematic and we see the affect of our action with the pink triangle.
Highest player count ever... and look what you did bungie. Think people are gonna stick around or give it another shot. Imagine players coming back to give destiny one last chance and Lightfall is what they got...
They still have not addressed targeted exotic drops vs keeping it random, which is really the main issue here. I don’t care about low drop rates for exotics per an activity; just need the option to focus on the exact exotic armor piece I need. This has to become a thing THIS YEAR!
Getting exotics to drop isn’t the problem, it’s the roll ON the exotics. Took me hours to farm the piece I wanted, just for it to have a horrific stat roll which meant I couldn’t have 100 resilience. Idk why we can’t be allowed to adjust the final 5-10 points on exotics ourselves.
With regards to Lightfall... We know it was never meant to be how it was. The original LF date was the Final Shape poster and was supposed to be 2022 release. Makes sense that the new LF release is inconsequential to the final DLC which was supposed to be the original LF story and this was crammed in to fill in time before the new IP launches come. Explains why the opening and closing cutscenes were actually the opening to the original LF (now Final Shape) DLC and that nothing really matters or has changed, that way they don't need to rewrite or work around the original 2022 release story. It also makes sense business wise, considering they want a new IP release by 2025 (meaning the end of the yearly release when FS comes out), filling the gaps in nicely.
Id love to see that u have the possiblity to save a certain artefact selection with a certain build, also the possiblitys to edit loadouts individually and remove certain things, so i dont have to go resafe all my loudouts with green weapons all the time
I didn't mind the light level jump for lost sectors. It was clearly put there for light cap. However, I DO have a issue with alot of exotics locked behind it, especially with this large influx of new players. It sucked having to tell a lot of new lights that they were going to have to wait weeks to get a exotic for a build they were super excited for. Even I had to wait to get Necrotic Grips for warlocks... I missed all the fun because of it.
this is the problem with great players vs casual. only 12% have completed Raids, which means there's 88% of casual players that are suffering all of the harder increases. and it will turn players away.
Something that i dont think was mentioned; Kinetic Tremors procs Shoot to Loot. Now that it can collect orbs, it can make Shoot to Loot a not ass tier worthless perk outside of absurdly niche scenarios.
I’ve got a few exotic from the ground but my reaction is usually oh yeaaa [ sarcasticly ] as they don’t help with my power. I don’t understand why collecting exotics from the ground don’t give higher power. Idk I might be picking the small things but I just use to love that feeling when you saw a exotic on the ground as you know that it will give you a few more power.
If focused exotics don't have absolutely BANGING stat rolls, then they may have successfully created a system where grinding lost sectors for RNG drops like we do now is actually the *preferred* option. Ciphers are already limited enough, and even the ones we can get are a pain in the dick to acquire. And that's not mentioning how rare exotic engrams can potentially be.
Thanks as always for your perspective man. It really helps me get my head around everything. I actually really enjoy the format of you just giving your thoughts as you go too.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t mind the enemies in patrol hitting harder than other destinations. What I don’t like is the increased health pools that take almost a full mag to kill basic red bars.
I feel like there should be an intro level to legend lost sectors for people who don't have all the exotics and it just drops low stat armor. The whole reason new players can't do them at higher difficulties is that they don't have the weapons or the armor to complete them reliably and the drop rates are so abysmal that it's just a waste of time doing them. If they made a system where it's a lower difficulty node that pops up if you are still missing exotics, with a way higher chance to get ones you don't have, but limit the max stat total it can be to like 55. It let's people actually start building a bit easier to let them get through the door faster instead of slamming it in their face as soon as they leave Cosmo.
Obviously it doesn't matter as much for Master/GM content players since they get the golf balls to drop, but 3 golf balls or 30 prisms is also a bit of work since that's 20 completions assuming a drop rate of 1.5 prisms per run. Which assuming I'm still getting 60 bst with 26 Mobility Necros or Sunbracers or whatever is still gonna hurt. But looking from bungies perspective, having a player do 20 legend level activities a week is probably pretty decent engagement.
My primary concern is still Bungie's faltering grasp of their own narrative. I can't help but feel like they don't actually know how they're gonna end this. Lightfall felt like a weak attempt to introduce us to another MacGuffin and I can't help but feel like it's not even gonna be that important come Final Shape. Bungie has a lot of threads to tie together now: The Traveler, The Veil, The Witness and their relation to The Winnower (as I do believe they're different beings), if the Gardener is a real thing, the Black Garden and it's overarching presence, and who the HELL our Guardian really is and their relation to the "game". Final Shape has so much weight on it now. I hope it doesn't break under it.

I also enjoy difficulty and change but to be fair that battleground boss room on GM being literally never ending spawns with no pause between them at GM health values was going to be a miserable time; it sounds like it’s still infinite spawns but clearing a wave will give you a chance to wear down the boss for a moment instead of killing a wizard and having the next two spawn directly on top of where it died
If they will be replaced in the time it takes to reload your weapon, why even bother killing them?
@@WolfSeril107 because they are killing you
If Bungie wants lost sector grinding to be more important then change the focusing option into ghost mods.
Just get better at the game.
@@Glucenaphene Ghost mod that you slot for let's say increased chance for Forsaken exotics. Exotics that drop should only be from Year 2. You'll still have the same drop rate but it'll targeted drops instead of the entire pool.
@@Argonian0727 Yes because RNG is a skill issue. How did I miss that.
And trying to excuse Bungie's lazy storytelling this expansion as "Destiny is an MMO" just sounds... dumb.

Master nightfalls are good for shards.
And bungo's rng will make sure that it's 53 stat-rolled piece of crap that isn't even gonna be worth using
@@shivansh4368 I'm not quite that cynical, but I do understand the sentiment.
Definitely think Master Lost sectors should give shards
That orb mod is gonna be insane with recuperation and better already, basically giving every class a pocket heal/regen on class ability use as long as theirs orbs around (unless bungie codes it to not count as being picked up)
Probably might be a seeking wells effect but only on class ability use in a certain area.
Depending on that area of effect, might be meta or mediocre
Gonna heavily depend on the radius and also which armor piece it's on. So I wouldn't be surprised if it's gonna be a Legs Mod to balance that out. i.e. you can have your pocket regen but it means you have to go without scavs or surges etc.
I'm gonna miss the enemy density of Heist Battlegrounds because it felt intense, but it also make some play styles a feel very powerful in their ability to clear adds. For example, making an entire room constantly explode with ignition builds feels amazing because it's difficult to do when enemies die to scorch before they can ignite and ramps up over time.
For battle grounds, they should really increase the ad density but decrease their damage output.
Me generating 220-250 orbs per run as a voidlock perma standing outside the safety balefire just spam clearing ALL adds endlessly hehe
@@minilabyrinth voidlock using contraverse is so satisfying in defiant battlegrounds and hearing the void shields pop
Seen your rng for blueberry is bad
System sucks end of story.
as usual, Bungie proving how out of touch with their community they are......

@@SoccYT The system does not suck, it just hasn't been fully developed yet. Bad take.

Waiting until it comes around, I was not looking forward to it I really think the nerfs were deserved.
idk why but i can imagine a lot of negotiating between jez and datto for how long that shout out stayed up on screen
My only gripe with guardian ranks is no cosmetic rewards to incentivise grinding out those ranks and show off. The number is nice but it's not enough, gimme like an emblem or class item or something every season similar to the new Comp rewards.
Yea bungie really forgot the carrot on that stick. It’s entirely pointless
@@goldentornado90 it's likely that they've seen the feedback regarding rewards for guardian ranks and don't want to announce anything until they have a concrete plan. Personally I think it'd be awesome if there was a cosmetic reward each level above 6 that escalates in value. Start with a transmat or projection, then a ghost/ship/sparrow for the next few, then cap it off with stuff like class items, shaders, Momentos, emblems, and possibly emotes.
but you get a cool glowie thing while in the tower for the 2 minutes you're there
@@Invicta707 I do like that, but I think it'd be cool if it was like the old Auras from D2 vanilla, different color for each rank that you could equip to show off
It's like, in looter games, we're fundamentally just grinding for higher numbers.
Sounds like they’re terrified giving people unlimited farming will hurt their precious weekly engagement numbers. Just let us have our fun bungie
Its interesting to me that they have publicly stated that light level won't be increasing with each season, so why is light level one of the objectives that supposedly resets with each season. Theoretically, it should never actually reset until the next expansion, which they have already indicated they will be removing power before then
Edit: also the whole "grind out your artifact to make lost sectors easier" is such a dumb take.
The jez promo in the beginning is heartwarming, we love seeing a supportive father
I’m looking forward to dumping a bunch of materials for a 53 stat total intellect-focused exotic :)
Gotta watch those mousepad incidents, they'll set ya back a season
As someone that is *very well aware* of how few players actually do raids, the fact that everyone including the people who have never completed a single raid started at rank 6 with me felt like a slap in the face.
Since they are increasing cipher capacity to 5, how come prisms and golf balls aren't getting increased capacity as well. What's the point if they do increase stuff if we are still short on other materials.
This is unrelated to the content of the video, but I just wanted to say thanks, Datto, for still being here and doing what you do.
Whether it's guides, rants, vault deletion, or what have you... thanks. It's always good to see you post a new video, truly.

i feel like the new mods are a really solid new foundation of a mod system.
but we had a time where we got new mods every season:(
and now its just like "players were missing stuff" TWO new ones NEXT season
Exotic armor focusing really feels like it's "engagement driven" in that yes, the primary source of exotic engrams will be rank resets and that's a great way to keep people playing on the treadmill.
Some of these changes feel a little... tone deaf? I guess thats how I'll put it. The exotic focusing, like datto says, is highly restrictive. I, personally, dont have a lot of ascendant materials, and dont play a lot of GMs when they come around, so it's not just ciphers that are the problem for me.
I like how a Tresher appeared in the Nightfall as you mentioned them. Neat timing hehe
Yeah, a lot of endgame players have piles of golf balls, so much so that stacks are often deleted from the postmaster lol. This is a great sink imo.
I mean they literally admitted the raid encounters/mechanics were broken/frustrating during playtesting and laughed about it in their ViDoc.
At 6:14 that Gladiator lunge hurt my soul LOL you were so far away!! 🤣
I would 100% take a 64/63 good stat distribution on an exotic I WANT to use, then a 68 with 30 mobility on warlock, for an exotic I will never use…
As someone who’s played for a very long time, and wants to share the world of destiny with my friends, I find it impossible to do so.
No, it's gonna be the 70 stat with shit distribution. 20 in mobility and 30 in discipline lmao
Coming from a newish player, the 85 exotic weapons has completely stonewalled me at rank 8, have everything else. Thanks for talking about it Datto!
Facts bro

A moment of appreciation to the fact that Datto synced his transition to Thresher commentary to the moment he encountered it ingame
1.4x on master is Bungie trolling?
If Bungie isn't trying to limit the amount of armor focusing you can perform, it would be really cool for lost sectors to drop exotic ciphers instead of the completely random exotic in the specific slot of that day. Maybe have them drop exotic engrams a bit more reliably and have a very rare chance at a cipher. I dunno what they're trying to do lol
I like the idea of being able to get exotic ciphers from lost sectors. 👍
I'll be honest I enjoyed the challenge being massively under light doing a legend lost sector
If I had to come up with a solution I’d say maybe make legend and master lost sectors drop a higher amount depending on if all champions are defeated.
you can spend enhancement prisms to upgrade armor and then dismantle for more cores if you have extra prisms.
They just recently guaranteed enhancement core drops from lost sectors, but I do think there should be a straightforward conversion of turning prisms into cores.
A legend LS drops 2-4 cores and 1-2 prisms, if you grind them out with some friends you can build up that stack pretty fast
We need a glimmer/shards farm, cuz all these gear/armor focusing is starting to be costly. 60k glimmer for 1 exotic roll is wild. Also increasing the cap of materials would be great
The issue is the reward ratio in lost sectors and I don’t need someone who plays the game for a living telling us to deal it’s fine.
Solid change.
watching Bungie try to make changes to keep their player base engaged is like watching a child drown in front of a crowd doing nothing but cheering it on.
lost sector focusing idea: a 10 energy ghost mod that makes so the lost sector exotic drop matches the one you are wearing if the slot matches
monkeys paw: they make it for specific planets/sectors and you have to get it from a drop
As a new player that’s still working my way through the Lightfall campaign, I don’t understand most of this video but I appreciate the effort!
They still have not addressed targeted exotic drops vs keeping it random, which is really the main issue here. I don’t care about low drop rates for exotics per an activity; just need the option to focus on the exact exotic armor piece I need. This has to become a thing THIS YEAR!
At 15:58 they literally talk about exotic focusing.
They quite literally have done exactly this. Read the post lol
did you not read the article or watch the vid?
Reading hard, ranting easier huhu
Maybe current exotic drops will instead drop engrams (armor type for lost sectors) and those will be what fuels the focusing?
I hate when people just say "lol. Dead game" to every game that doesn't have CSGO or league levels of a player base.
That Jez shoutout. Yes he did make a fantastic video critique!
Make a flawless solo dungeon or raid for rank 11 I dare them
Getting exotics to drop isn’t the problem, it’s the roll ON the exotics.
Id love to see that u have the possiblity to save a certain artefact selection with a certain build, also the possiblitys to edit loadouts individually and remove certain things, so i dont have to go resafe all my loudouts with green weapons all the time
Biggest question with the changes to the artifact. Will you be able to save different setups with it in your saved builds???
Also, for exotic ciphers. If your new or returning you kinda need those to get the old guns from the kiosk...
I feel like Jez really nailed how most of us feel.
this is the problem with great players vs casual. only 12% have completed Raids, which means there's 88% of casual players that are suffering all of the harder increases. and it will turn players away.
I've been on a break. Lightfall completely drained my will to play D2. But I like to keep up and at least I can appreciate Bungie's openess.
Finally I can have my reactions to the reactions to the article about the companies reactions to our reactions.
Just because it has peak player count, does not mean that people bought lightfall.
This system needs to raise the ascendant shard limit too then PLEASE
The ONLY thing I had a problem with Mars is that when they're are 3 guardians, all 3 wizards are directly clapping on top of me...? 😅
Considering I haven't seen an exotic drop in the wild in over a year, I pray the engram from reseting and from the seasonal track count.
I like this form of reading the patchnotes and then immediatlyu giving feedback
