I remember loving this song when I was 13 (2004) and not paying attention to the words or understanding any of the lyrics. Now I’m 31 and it definitely hits differently.
I love Death Cab. They've always been there for me when I was sad and even when I as happy. This song is one of my favorites of all time. And this version...
@@neptunesbounty1786 hey buddy! It’s the same Lucas, different account. I’m getting married in two months, I have a good job and Death Cab doesn’t make me sad anymore, but it fills me with nostalgia. It remembers me of that sad Lucas from 5 years ago, who was afraid of life and took it for granted. A lot of things can change in 5 years hahah
Not only a great songwriter or performer. I saw him in Benicasim 2002 as The Postal Service. Sound was horrible, and then they changed the sound technician and Gibbard started over again, the whole concert. Professional and good person. Wishing to see him again at Kalorama 2024.
@EVERYTHING NOW Ben had a problem with drugs/alcohol in the mid 2000's (it's notable that he gained some weight from it in the Transatlanticism/Plans era). He went sober in 2008. That's why they're commenting that he stays away from drugs.
One of the things I love the most about Ben is he doesn't deviate almost ever from the way his songs are sung on his records. That's what people want to hear, so that's the way he sings live. But he sung 'there's no blame' just very slightly differently, his voice going a little lower, at 2:35 and I gotta say... it hit different 😯 i liked it
...makes me think of her....wherever she is now. We aren't there physically, but I believe our energy, our essence, will always be there on that rooftop, slow dancing to the sounds of the city. Nothing but us, the innocence of youth, and that love you only feel once in your life....
Thanks friend. Theres not a day that goes by that I'm not there, stuck in that time, in that place, with her. Perhaps in another life... or perhaps, though we took different roads, our story is not yet finished and somewhere later in life we will meet again. or perhaps im just a hopeless romantic...if only I had the chance though, just one more time, to show her my heart is still there, 13 years later....
Derek C Thanks for sharing. That’s a beautiful sentiment. Youth fades and callouses begin to from over. Scars are stronger than our weak youthful flesh.
Derek_ late as hell reply but I got the girl 13 years later man. We went to see smashing pumpkins Mellon collie tour in 1997 and I told her I liked her and then 13 years past and now we have been together 10 years and have two kids Believe man cause romance and love are needed in this life. Peace bro.
When I was a Junior in high school I meet and fell in love with a beautiful young lady named Aubrie. I was over the moon that she also like me. Throughout my life I have been married and dated but never had that same feeling. I’m not saying that too pity myself but to remember a great time in my life with an amazing person. I like that it ended 2 years after high school cause now the memory is such a good one for me. The reason I mention this story is cause auntie introduced me to DCFC and this song was the first song by them that I feel in love with along with her. I have not listened to it in a decade before right now and it bring everything back, amazing how music can do that.
Working at home in the middle of the pandemic, I happen to see this on my feed while I'm on break. Made me remember the kind of sadness I experienced when I was a teenager. Can't help but tear up a little now. Not because I remember the pain before, but because the kind of pain now, with the pandemic, the loneliness, and the future, is way more powerful.
I remember my friends and I got together and wanted to take mushrooms about 4 grams and go watch death cab. I remember it being so scary getting infront of the stage. I couldn’t even buy Gatorade cause the anxiety of the cashier looking at me when I was sent to mars. But a few mumbles later I’m in the middle of this set and I literally zone out to this song. And remember right before I was laughing and couldn’t stop laughing. And then this song came on. And it shook me. Made me still. And I cried. But a good type of cry. It was a amazing performance. And I remember just not wanting to leave and it threw me into deep thought about the importance of life and the subtle interactions that make a difference. Couples friends that didn’t joint in the dinner handed me drinks and I wanted nothing to do with drinking. Actually thought drinks were terrible to have at the time and was just disgusted from hard drinks. But that profound moment really will always stay with me. And I feel like from the experience is the best way possible
i was thinking the exact same thing as i watch Ben in this session. Gord will be fighting the fight now forever.... my prayers are with him and his family.
***** Yeah, I mean there was a significant change in his tone as far as style was concerned. But it seemed like his voice has changed a lot more live than on his records.
***** He's been supporting himself a lot better nowadays, which causes it to be less airy and light. That, and general age. Sorry, I know this thread is a month old, but I figured I would throw in my thoughts. He seems to try to sound the same as he did, while still using his new technique, so that's throwing him off as well.
oppositeofme1 Lol dont get me wrong, I like it and I think its great that hes not using as much of a head voice nowadays. It just threw me off to hear slight difference in the tambre of his voice!
I'm so happy for Dominos. Thank you, Dominos for writing this. Thank you so much, Dominos. Fucking disgusting pizza. Couldn't watch. Cool. Good. Awesome shit.
Every youtube video as of 1155pm November 14 2023 has exactly 666 likes.. and im not exaggerating. So youtube might wanna figure that out. Its 666, past 34 videos on youtube on my phone and all my friends devices. Something got hacked or something.
shock top is beer for people who don't like beer and dominos is pizza for people who don't like pizza... and 91X is music for people who don't like music
I'm not sure I've ever had Shock Top, Dominos is basically unavoidable if you ever leave your house to attend social events and I don't live in San Diego (it was a consideration at one point; apparently fate saved me from something awful) but, pray tell, for people who enjoy beer, pizza and music (sometimes simultaneously!), what are the proper choices?
I really do not dig this version. Never really been a huge death cab fan but I heard this song in like 2004 and have always loved it but just didn’t really get death cab aside from this song. But then a few of my respected friends were talking over and over about how awesome Benjamin is so I decided to listen again and once again just didn’t really dig their whole sound/image aside from this gem.
It is definitely a more somber or sad version. Try some of these. If you hate them I totally won't be offended haha Brothers on a hotel bed ua-cam.com/video/3x4drnThxNQ/v-deo.html 60 and punk ua-cam.com/video/z7HmWsjZ6ZI/v-deo.html

Big same! I bought the CD at Sam Goody’s when I was 13 (2004). About to turn 32 in January. This song is a true gem.
I got my at sam goody too lol. Still amazing though
Same. This music prepared us for getting our hearts and souls torn and mangled and still keeping sanity. Such is life.
Same nostalgia here man!! 😂
I love Death Cab. They've always been there for me when I was sad and even when I as happy. This song is one of my favorites of all time. And this version...
Lucas Pietro very true!
Lucas Pietro I played this song on repeat for 6 days when I heard it haha
I hope you're not sad anymore Lucas.

@@lucaspietro2502 Congratulations!
This song is never gonna get old for me, I listen to a huge variety of music but this is one of my favorites of all time
best opening line to a song ever
So true, though.
Second only to "I like big butts and I cannot lie."
its used to be for gloves lol
One of the most underrated songwriters of the late 90s and all of the 21st century. This dude deserves so much more credit and recognition

I am so sad right now. This song makes me feel welcomed. I feel less sad.
hope you're feeling quite happy today
omg "and dominos, they make pizzas" that made me laugh
Same. 😂
these lyrics are genius
Hope Ben stays away from drugs and lives a long life. He is one of the few remaining musical treasures.
He's been there, done that, come out the other side.

His best shit was on drugs tho lol

All-time favorite song by Death Cab
this version hurts so much more than the album version
Listen to the Demo version uwu
Alex Gracia thank you! 😭😭 so now I know that all versions hurt but all a little different

One of the best songs by one of the best bands💗
old song stuck in my head acoustic sounds great.
Grapevine fires acoustic was always my favorite by them but this is possibly gonna take it's spot..
lovely version
Listen to this shot over and over. AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT!!!!!
This song. This song has seen some shit. It’s so painfully beautiful.
Had this on repeat for a few days now.

Brilliant song writer, beautiful album and song ❤️🎼🎶🌹
Wonderful!!!!
Great tune. Suhweet Gibson. Roll on 1 August 2015 at the Sydney Opera House. Stoked.
Chris Riches Yeah, oath. So keen to see them again.

Incredible vocals and guitar
Outstanding
awesome !! is there a tabs of this version !?!
Cool song
Awesome 👍👍👍👍😎
Triste cancion adictiva
Sometimes songs just call you out
Amazing... ♡
He reminds me of Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip.
Nice song - I love the acoustic renditions more than the official releases.
i was thinking the exact same thing as i watch Ben in this session. Gord will be fighting the fight now forever.... my prayers are with him and his family.
Omg didn't even recognize Ben!!
Anyone have the tabs for this version?
His voice is angelic. Makes “performers” nowadays look like chumps.
Is that the J45?
Elliot Smith... they're different but... yeah. Man.
I can imagine he wrote this song when Zooey Deschanel left him.
It looks like cheeto dust is on the microphone :p
Joel Stoecklin Haha yeah with the lighting
Is that a Southern Jumbo gibson?
Wow Ben, your voice sounds kinda different. Are you going through a change or something? Its good!
***** his voice is having a swift and orderly change

Turn on subs for extra lulz
Chords?
Roughly as follows- Verse: Cmaj7, Asus2, Em. chorus: G Am C Bridge: Em Cmaj7, Asus2
The opening line sounds silly and mundane, but when you recognize the metaphor it's just not. And it hits you unexpectedly.
The closed captioning on UA-cam is useless, lol.
