    Take the headlight out and take to other side where everything is functioning and if you can hook up to the wiring harness on that side you can atleast narrow it down to chassis harness or the actual light harness. If that doesn't work for you bench check the light assy with a power supply 12 volts and grounds according to wiring schematic for your car.

    Glad you are doing ok MB. I would definitely troubleshoot the harness leading to that headlight. I would check positive and negative with a voltmeter. If you’re not sure which one is which you can always ground the negative on the voltmeter anywhere and then probe with the positive. You can always confirm which pin should have positive and negative by looking at the good headlight harness on the driver side. My bet is the positive on harness harness got fried when that ballast went. Good luck!

    I had aftermarket lights on my Grand am and they just had a plastic boot over the bulb....that is a great setup with the way the bulbs plug in. Sometimes you may have to run an extra ground wire to the bulb housing if you want to run higher watt bulbs

    I would check the harness before the ballast and see if you have voltage there. Even if the fuse is good you would know if the wire is damaged or you’re missing a ground.

    Hey Liz, The diffuser is coming along nicely just about done. As far as the headlight swap the bulb to the working side to make sure the bulb is good do the same with the ballast if both are good check the continuity if you don’t have a schematic you have the working side for reference. I guess it’s a ground issue let us know what you find and glad all is good keep the videos coming🦆🦆🦆👍

    If have a test light see from the main harness if u have good power or use a multimeter to see if that main power wire for the head light bulb, and need battery voltage for proper power. If have that then need to check the ground.

    I would try swapping the ballasts and bulbs, in case one is bad. That's the easiest thing to try. If it still doesn't work look up the wiring schematic for the headlights to see where the harnesses are, and track them down. A visual inspection or a multimeter will tell you which one is corroded.

    Go with Big Bear Venom on the electrical. I have personally seen the ground side fail on two Nissans. If your car had a ground issue, it would explain the burned up ballast. Its good to get out from time to time. Your mind needs time to rest and digest new information. Working out or having lunch will take you away from the problem so you can deal with it later with a refreshed mind.

    A lot of a OEM Quality Parts cost of money because they are quality. Now granted a cheap set might blow quicker but you can buy a few of them for the price of one longer-lasting OEM part. So it just comes down to how much you value your time and doing swap outs and things like that. I use both aftermarket and OEM for different things depending on the job

  • @neathway382
    @neathway382 3 роки тому +4

    I would start by testing the light and ballast. Just plug it into the connector for the side that works. Once you've confirmed it's not a dud light, the fun really starts. Start at the plug, with a power probe, to see which pin is dead. Then (once you're sure it's not a ground wire) start following it back through the harness until you find the dead spot. It's a task that completely sucks balls. But. Once you get it fixed, you shouldn't ever have to worry about it again.

    If you don't have one already, add a volt ohm meter (vom) to your toolkit, for doing basic electrical troubleshooting. Looking at Amazon USA , they have a "Fluke 101 Basic Digital Multimeter" for $45. Fluke is a tier one vendor of these kind of products, so it should be a decent product. With this, you could check at the headlight connector to verify whether approximately 12 volts is present when you turn the headlights on. If not, then you can trace the harness for the fault.

  • @gerrymoeller
    @gerrymoeller 3 роки тому

    Swap the complete housings and plug them to the opposite sides to test test them.If they both work on the left and not the right go to wiring. Check for ground on Black with a white stripe, 12 volts on the red. also check fuse 76 (15 amp) for power on both sides of the fuse.. If you have power at the fuse and not the red wire you have a broken wire.

  • @gstylezproductionz

    The ballast raises the voltage from your battery/alternator to the high voltage that HID (aka "projector") lights use but if there were LED replacements for your lamps you shouldn't need the expensive ballast. HID were used for a few years before LEDs were fully developed and bright enough to use as headlights. The LED conversion kits might be as expensive as the parts you got so perhaps not worth it now unless you find affordable conversion kits. The ballast can run hot and the HID are super hot so they can burn out faster than other types of lights and I'll bet there will be cheap LED replacements soon that will be even better than HID.

  • @johnmccabe7645

    With anything electronic that you can switch, remove the passenger side and plug it into the working driver's side. Get a cheap multimeter, turn to voltage, unplug the working light, and test the contacts, write down all the readings. Now go, well you can see the rest of test the passenger side. If you find differences, tell someone and you'll be on your way

  • @quiksilver64

    Grab a multi meter, set to DC volts, put one lead to the fuse and one lead to the power wire at the connector. If you have source voltage you should be good if not you either have high resistance in the wire or it’s pinched somewhere in the harness.

  • @sgt.hollowpoint6968

    The ballast and "the wire", is actually the igniter. I recently replaced the same parts on my 350z too. I did too see the one you bought from Amazon, but ended up getting a used OEM from Ebay; luckily it worked.👌

  • @highpower3006
    @highpower3006 3 роки тому

    You need a multi meter if you don't already have one. Check back to where you have good 12VDC then move down the harness until you lose power. In your case start at the hot side of the fuse, then check the other side. If you have power at the light but it still doesn't work, my guess is that you have a bad ground, probably due to corrosion from road salt.
