HOW TO REPLACE A BROKEN REAR WHEEL STUD
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лип 2024
- Today we will be removing and installing a wheel stud on the rear of my rocket bunny frs. The process was pretty straight forward.. I removed the caliper assembly & rotor. Then I drove out the existing wheel stud with a hammer "being careful to not hit anything but the stud ". Finally, I installed the new wheel stud using this tool - amzn.to/3auwIoA
Please keep in mind that before I put the rotor back in I did release my e-break in order to get the rotor to slide back in.
This was the first time I ever attempted to change a wheel stud and it was pretty easy and straight forward ! I hope your process is as easy as mine was!

I found Sarah's and your channel about the same time a little over a year ago. I think you both are doing a great thing! I taught both my son and daughter how to do simple repairs on their cars when they were younger. I think it helps people to know it's not that hard or intimidating to do some things for your car to save money. Plus, when you do something yourself, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Keep up the good work!
Liz you rock!! This isn't a difficult repair, but because it involves disassembling the brake calipers, it can be intimidating. Great video, seven thumbs up!!
Its been very cold here in Wisconsin. I had 15-1/2 inches of snow in my driveway/outside of my garage this past week. Keep up the great work and stay warm.
Like another mentioned, when you apply a lot of muscle to something, don't use a ratchet. Generally it is too short, but it also has a small gear and pawl which can break easily. A breaker bar is not only made for the job, but the longer it is, the more leverage you have. For those rusty caliper bracket bolts, I put a breaker bar on them, and from the back of the car use my foot to break them loose. The joys of salt filled winter roads ....
thank you for the advice !
Omg I'm so happy I'll be able to put the new stud in without having to take the assembly all apart XD you saved my hopes with this!
I have to say... the ending cracked me up Liz! Way to keep it real!
Wow a girl knows cars in her gen, legit dopest dope ive seen do your thing sis
I do the same thing when taking off rotors, caliper first then bracket. And the stud removal things is almost universal, with a spot somewhere with room to take a stud out without removing the brake shoes.
I've used the hammer method for many years , bit of a tip though turn the hammer sideways so you're using the full length of the head that way you can't miss and it won't slip..
If you break another stud at the track , you can all so use 3 or 4 washer with the socket and do the same thing or help friend out in there garage .
South Main Auto's channel is awesome for how to deal with the rust etc from the Northeast weather.
Keep moving forward and a warmer place would be better for working on your cars :-)
I found you through Sara n tuned, it’s nice to see someone on the east coast that knows about snow and road salt and rust…lol Sara all in Arizona where it’s all hot and sandy…I’m in Pa so I know the winter salt pain..
I hear you, I spent 7 1/2 yrs in LA but I'm from Jersey and unfortunately am back here. Only good thing about Covid is working from home so my undercarriage doesn't get eaten by salt or my wheels/suspension destroyed by Philly's 3rd world roads. Still wrenching in that frozen garage though!
❤ 100% behind you on the it sucks up north. I am ready to get out of Chicagoland. Keep up the work, I love it. 🥰
Great video.. so what do I do if while tightening the new wheel studs they spinning..? 😩😩 I’m using hand tools, ratchet and a socket.!
Using a Milwaukee high torque gen one. Good job! But ya heavier 🔨 great video 👍
Straight determination I like your passion for cars you can’t find that in any girl 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Thank you !
@@MICKBETH your welcome 😉
I pretty much always use a dead blow hammer on my boxed wrench to get the caliper bolts loose (its soft so it doesn't damage the wrench) or my small impact -- A framing hammer isn't a good choice for many reasons, the biggest is its a really hardened steel and can splinter if hit right use a ballpeen hammer which is softer than a framing hammer to drive out the stud or you must use a framing hammer use a softer metal punch. Ask the metal shard in my arm how I know this.
Mad respect seeing you working on your own car. Never heard that brand name called 'Leslie' in my 12 years behind the auto parts counter. Always thought Lisle rhymes with tile? Awesome job on the wheel stud replacement, now go get warm, gf!
Lisle tools has only been around since 1903 and if you have been working in auto parts for 12 years and not seen their display in every auto parts store nation wide you need to get out of the auto parts business .
I live in New England, so I can attest to what you're saying about the weather. Anyone who willingly moves from a warm state to a cold one is out of their goddamn mind.
Cool vlog I have a 2011 Elantra n needs to replace my rear while stud thanks for sharing this .
Hey Liz nice to see u add it again and like always looking so fine😉. This was a quiet job done at night wasn’t it? 🤫
Mechanics don't apologize so don't start to appease. To help Fit it back in use a magnet tip to pull it through. I will do this for my first time on a ranger. Thanks for the tool info.
"It's in I think" that's what she said.
lmaooo
@@MICKBETH: No man alive wants to hear a women end with: “... I think”! 😉
*Oooook😐*
I hear you with the cold! I'm in Connecticut and freezing as well. 😑 Great video tho.. Gives me a little bit of warmth! 😎👍
This year hasn’t been as cold to be honest. I’m in CT too. I remember about 3 years ago on Thanksgiving it being below 0....
I hear you on the weather , I'm in CT and it sucks.
What about a gray or silver mate for the paint
Living in the the Northeast makes us a hearty breed. It's not just life, it's an adventure! LOL. Love your vlogs.💖👍
thank you for watching
Right now Texas ain't no better!!
@@ftby59mikeD I pray for you folks!🙏
Great job Mick Beth. Love your videos
thank you for watching
I love a woman who knows how to work on cars 😍😍
You are coming along so amazingly as far as learning to do work on your cars. Sarah must be so proud of you! You got lucky on having the clearance to put the new stud in. On a lot of cars there's not enough room and you have to remove the hub or the axle if it's one piece. I'm happy you didn't have to do that.
You are 100% on the cold, it sucks! I'm glad you didn't button up. Ya know what I mean? HAHA! Love Ya, stay safe.
Hey Jim ! thank you so much, honestly I got very lucky because taking off the hub would have been a big pain. hope you are doing well !
I was told you need to press those studs out instead of hammering, for the sake of wheel bearings.
Great video.. thanks for braving the temperatures..
You said you don't know how it happened, there's a really good chance last time the wheels were removed and re installed whoever tightened the lug bolts used a air tool and over torqued the nut stretching the threads on the stud. NEVER USE AIR TOOL TO TIGHTEN LUG NUTS...Torque with hand tool and use torque wrench to proper spec.
$8 - $10 Bull Crap...the cheapest I could find the Leslie 22800 online $25 and at O'Riely's Auto parts (local) $38 !
Oh Liz. How we love you and your goofiness.
I've had the same thing happen but I lost five of them breaking one by one almost made it home and had it towed the rest of the way when I was down to one
Hay Liz, Nice job don’t lose that stud tool as you may want to install studs on the BMW so cute but so cold don’t worry it should warm up in about a week let’s hope so it’s freaking freezing here too not as much snow as you guys but we’re slowly catching up🙂🦆🦆🦆👍🏻
On MOST vehicles there is a cut out just for removing studs
Great video, Liz! I suspect you are going to have a very hard time convincing Sarah to make a visit anytime soon to the “Klondike” of North Jersey! 😉
haha im not exposing any secrets but you might be wrong !
@@MICKBETH: Lol... BEFORE the winter ends? Just tell me it’s not mid-April! I have a secret, too!
Very impressive. You are smart and beautiful. I broke a lug nut stud off once and I fixed it but your way was better. 👍
Awesome video once again!!... ✌️ And never button up!!.... 😁
You need a 24” breaker bar. And get a heavier ball-peen hammer 😀. Nice job though.
Harbor freight has both and cheap 🤣
Loose the claw hammer. It's for carpenters, not mechanics
Was that red threadlocker on the stud you removed?
Good job girl!!
The salt belt is a beautiful place 🙃🥲
So many things I seen done wrong but application of the emergency brake while there is no brake rotor on was epic 🤣 Don't put anti-seize on brake pads that's what brake lubricant is for . Always install the stud with the impact so it seats properly and install brake rotor to lessen the pull next time .
She does not know what she is doing, I’m sure there was a man in the background Making everything worse prior to her doing anything
THE e-BRAKE THING WAS GREAT
When using the installer, your air gun is your best friend
Back video mechanics of the best like when you take mechanic this very interesting
Liz is a stud breaker.
Great video
I just want to make a couple comments on this video.
1. If you paid 20.00 bucks for one wheel stud, you have more money then sense.
2. If it won't come out you can take a grinder to cut it to make it shorter or a torch whichever your more comfortable with. Or if you have an air hacksaw.
3. You can use washers to pull it back in.
4. Quote " I could button up, but I'm not." And the 14 year old boys thank you.
it's cold everywhere except south Florida.
We all love you x
cool i have not seen one of them before but these days there is lot i havent seen lol
Thank you!
I’ll be back in the summer. Nice burka! 🤣😂
Love your contents very much ❤❤
thank you for watching !
It is great job,it is helpful
Muy buenos pectorales.
sunny😎 and 69°in Arizona...
just ask Sarah...82° yesterday.
Oh the joy's of living in the salt belt.....😤
smart and beautiful, beautiful coat you are wearing
thank you so much !
Only two seasons were she’s from winter and construction. Try a propane heater, they give a lot higher but output.
Just an FYI...that wheel stud installer by Lisle...the name is pronounced "Lyle" I know...weird spelling but it's true...and I have one of those babies in my toolbox at work...so handy!
Stay warm
Nice job making it look easy lol I feel ya pain its freezing in Jersey 😬
Noted. Dont move to the Northeast. Lol
lol el paso northeast?
I'm here for the tub part
Havent seen this beautiful young lady in a while. breath of fresh air.

But like she said just for a few seconds
@@tomspiers1658 all it takes tbh
Come down to nc
My car rattles in front at speeds of over 60 to 70 MPH VIBRATING DOES YA OR ANYONE HAVE IDEAS WHY
8:34
🤦🏿♂️Sure... it's because 'you don't wanna' why you're not buttoning up, despite b¡+ching about it being cold!
Oh... you are lucky. There are lots of studs that cannot be installed without removing hub. 1/2" Torque wrench is all you need to seat it. Heated jacket!
thank you !
Doing a Great job keep up the good work and happy to see that you are having fun 😀and staying warm 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
thank you !
Eric O and Watch Wes Work pronounce it "Lyle"
Nice work. Shows how we can do that ourselves :)
Love the video 👍💖😎
Hi Liz hope you are doing well
yes thank you ! hope you are well too
"Please don't eat me right now".
Intriguing that you'd assume I would. 🥵
Daaaaaaaaaam u look gorgeous working on the brz muj respect for you mickbeth 👍😎👌
It's a shame your videos are so informative, but I never retain any info when the video is over... 🤣🤣
4:07
So you went in expecting to have to remove the whole hub?! Why didn't you start doing that?!
you don't need all 5 bolts. 3 or 4 is fine
I love your green gloves! Where did you get them at?
THANK YOU! A subscriber sent them to me, I love them too !
Paint it Black Cherry Metallic!
How did setting the E-brake stop the axle from turning with the rotor off?
Car is awd. 👍
Other side still had wheel on and once the e brake was up it didn't allow for the hub to move
Rear quarter panel open?
I saw a front panel wide open....
(Just saying)
HA! "Give your car a hand job" at 7:00 LOVE Innuendo =P
i cant believe one wheel stud was 20 bucks..you did a good job..but that wheels stud installer tool??..take it back and get you money back on that ...you can put studs in by using a few big washer that doesnt cost you anything
You don't need that tool, you can press the new wheel stud into the hub with a nut and an open end lug nut!
That's how the mechanics at my old shop did too.
Title should have been; 'How to replace a broken rear wheel stud while wearing a long fur collar coat and gloves'. :) I have to replace a rear main seal on my Jeep but have to wait til spring weather. Enjoy NJ.
You forgot to wash, scrub everything down and paint it.
Like your friend Sara.. Lol 🤣🤣😉
meh me and her are definitely two different types of people
@@MICKBETH 😂
Cool
FYI beautiful next time remember to always put on your e-break when taken tires off but other than that great work and thank you for the tool that you found to replace it easier. looking forward to more of your videos.
No, it's good that she didn't put on the e-brake beforehand because then it would be much much harder to take the brake rotor disc/drum off since this particular style uses a drum for the parking brake and disc for the main brake.
@@ikutoisahobo true i forgot about that part. i just remembered today working on my rear caliber breaks and rotors that the e-break dont need to be on.
See, california, yall just stay put, you would hate it over here trust me.
LOL
