    Great video. I got a Cub Cadet with a 24 horse twin Courage and I’m doing some sitting maintenance on it. Fortunately I don’t have to worry about draining the oil too much because the gaskets already drained it for me lol. Still gonna open it though.
    It has deck issues but I’m planning on for right now using it as a tinkerer and a go cart to drive around. It’s my first mower and I’m pretty excited to get it running. I already cleaned the carb so now I basically just have to reinstall if after doing sitting maintenance and then it should be good to go - hopefully the oil wasn’t empty before it sat but since it did crank over it’s not seized up.

    I usually wash my pre filters with hot water and Dawn. Let them dry in the sun then use a bit of regular oil on them. Works fine. I like to mark the oil filter with the date it was installed too.

    I've had hell getting a Kohler filter off. It literally twisted in two trying to get it off. Never had a filter this difficult. I've seen some people showing pics of bad threads in the filter so make sure you check the filter threads before twisting on a new Kohler (if you choose to put a Kohler back on).

    If I don't fill the oil filter up with oil before installing will it ever fill up and read level correctly? I pushed it on a grade with the filter on the low side before I started it. Still seems like it's reading high, granted it hard to really see the oil on the stick being it's still been run a few hours. It's a kohler kt35-725cc

    Not to be trolling but a pair of latex or nitrile gloves would serve you very well doing this service since your skin will absorb some of the harmful chemicals in all of those fluids. I didn't think so until one of my knowledgeable parts guys took the time to show me what was in the carb cleaner I was using. If you're just doing this service once in a while it would probably make little difference but in my field it is an everyday thing.

    You let your mower sit in the shed all winter long with dirty, contaminated oil?? Bro, you change your oil and filter - AFTER your final mow of the season. Hello

  • @rtaggs8178
    @rtaggs8178 Рік тому

    Let it run, shut off and let it sit several hours or over night. Just like a diesel engine you check the oil on these engines when they are stone cold, not heated up since oil expands with heat.

  • @YesImhymn

    very elementary maintenance on these, but how about troubleshooting- mine goes to start, almost puffs, won't turn. plus it seems the gas leaked out sitting there.. fuel filter? gas line? there was mouse , possibly chipmunk droppings on the rotary top, and an acorn hull, lol... can't imagine the thing biting a gas line, or any of that crap mattering...

    I have a 21" kohler lawn-boy 6.5hp model 10734 . It just won't start! It has been sitting in my shed for 2 or 3 years. I took it out, drained the gas and put new gas and added some sea foam. Installed new spark plug, new air filter. I disassembled the carburetor and cleaned it well with carburetor cleaner. Oil level is fine. No, i didn't drain the oil. Please help. Why won't it start?

    • @baptistfaith
      @baptistfaith 4 роки тому +1

      The fly wheel has magnets on the inside that creates a spark as it turns , then through the coil, increasing the amperage/Voltage , but when an Engine sits the magnets rust, corrode, and lose their ability to create a spark, you may need to lightly sand not sides of the Magnets, one way to.check, pull.the plug wire, turn the engine and see if there is a spark.

    Mark I did everything you mentioned regarding all the steps to change everything, using the kit provided for my mower. After letting the mower sit and run for 5 minutes, I began to use the mower and every so often a white smoke would shoot out from the engine and also my change oil light will not go off. Can you help here ? Anyone?

    • @ilovepinktacos
      @ilovepinktacos 6 років тому +1

      Nancy, use some fuel stabilizer such as carb cleaner, pour in a few caps in the fuel and clean fuel.. the white smoke your seeing is most likely gummed up valves from the regular gas.. I use sea foam every spring and fall to clean up the carb and valves internally. Check the oil when the tract is cold, make sure there is enough oil.. craftsman tractors are known to burn oil and leak small amounts.. always check the oil level before operation of the tractor.

    Good video buy don't use Fram filters on anything. If you cut them open, they are very inferior in quality. The price of a good filter vs a cheap one like Fram is less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

    • @chrisburch3808

      Fram ultras are some of the best filters you can buy. They use metal end caps and mesh backed media

    • @martinschulz9381
      @martinschulz9381 3 роки тому +1

      @@chrisburch3808 Yeah, I've heard that. Fram stepped it up because of their bad reputation. A part man told me once that UA-cam did more damage in exposing Fram than anything else. All of a sudden customers just didn't want them anymore, and they had to switch brands.
      In the many years that I worked in the field, I've never even once seen a Fram filter on any commercial engine. Mostly WIX and Baldwin.

    • @olliefoxx7165
      @olliefoxx7165 3 роки тому +1

      @@martinschulz9381 Yep, I learned from an old salvage yard owner not to use Frams. He noticed the engines that were bad had almost exclusively Fram filters. He wouldn't put one on anything he owned and I try not to use them either. They hurt themselves by making garbage for decades.
