A couple of comments, its really important to wear eye protection when sharpening the blades, you really don't want a tiny piece of hot metal to get into your eye! I think its a good idea to balance your blades after sharpening, mowers vibrate a lot without adding an out of balance blade to the mix. Balance is easily checked by using a screwdriver in the center hole to balance it, this makes it easy to check for a heavy side, a little grinding quickly compensates for an out of balance condition..

Thank you for your very informative video on proper way to do a yearly tune-up on a lawn tractor. I do have one question, Is it necessary to replace the spark plug every year? I used to that and I was told that I did not need to do that. I was informed that a spark plug might need to be changed only 3 times for the life time of a lawn mower.

Thanks for the question. The short answer is that no, you don't need to replace the spark plug every year. You only need to replace the plug if it is damaged and is not creating a spark. Having said that, spark plugs are fairly inexpensive, and it's certainly not a BAD idea to replace it every year. I hope this helps!

As always, it's best to tune up a new mower that has not seen any use.

I enjoyed your video, it was just what I needed to service my mower. I just have one question. Can the deck of a riding tractor be raised? Mine is set to cut 3 inches on it’s highest level. I would like to set it to cut at 3.5 or 4 inches. Thank you..

Hi Billy, great question. Some riding tractors have adjustable decks. If you let us know the model number of your tractor, we can look into it for you! Thanks!

How often do you have to sharpen the blades??

Thanks for the question. That would depend on how much you're using your lawn tractor, and what kind of load they're operating under. If you notice that your tractor isn't cutting grass as well as it used to, then it may be time to sharpen the blades. It is recommended to give the blade a good sharpening at the beginning of the spring, especially if it has been sitting idle all winter. Good luck with your repair!

Does it matter which way the filter goes?

Hello, I would suggest to install the new filter the same way the old filter was installed.

I am trying to find out how to drain the gear oil. This poor pony spent a bit of time underwater thus the need to change out the gear oil.
