@AionicApe: It's hard to say when it comes to luck, since billionaires are luckier to an almost incomprehensible degree. The general thought is that the billionaires should give back because them giving back has bigger consequences, and the energy spent for others to give back would be much better spent on advocating for policy to force billionaires to give more back until they are no longer billionaires. For example if you have a million dollars, you giving away most of it will make much less of a difference than if you inspire policy to be enacted for billionaires to give some of their billions back, since despite how much money a million dollars is to give, it's much less compared to several billion dollars to give.
CPA candidate, and masters of accounting recipient here, I can confirm Charlie’s take on this. Giving straight up cash to anyone isn’t a write off, you actually have to start paying taxes once you’ve given an individual $17,000 dollars in a given tax year. If anything he’s punished on giving money away because he’s doing it with after tax dollars.
Possilby being taxed for giving away money should be illegal, but if you have crooks making laws, then things like this are gonna happen...@@koganeitou
Listen, I have asked for help several times from Charlie, and i've never been seen nor have i gotten anything. Right now, i have a brain tumor, and i can't afford medication or food, and life for me isn't good. But some people who bitch and complain about Charlie helping other people is something that even hurts my heart immensely. Charlie is one of the most giving youtubers out there and to complain just because you didn't get what you want is wrong on so many levels. I haven't been seen either but i'm not getting angry or jealous of these people, i am HAPPY for these people who Charlie sends money to. I'm not the only person in the world, and there are other people around that need help. I really think that people need to stop and think about what they are doing. This is the kind of thing that will stop Charlie from doing anything ever again and i wouldn't blame him. Coming from someone who is down and out, there are more people than myself who need help and anyone who is able to find that help i am genuinely happy for. I just don't understand people anymore. I have plenty of reasons to hate the world, but i don't. I'd rather love than hate.
Tbh there are a lot of stories where philanthropy is used by criminals to launder money or to buy support from desperate, poor communities like Escobar. In the influencer community there are a lot of scandals with staged giveaways so I think what we see right now is the result of people loosing faith in content creators/influencers and associating giveaways with scams, but this scandal, in my opinion, is stupid.
Personally I'm not a supporter of philanthropy as for the most part I feel like it's a rich lazy person's attempt at helping a community only at the surface level. As someone who works with low income kids. Donating is a good thing, but donating to low income kids in an attempt to feel good about yourself or to help your image Is lame.

@@kwiekritikerJesus never(I am fairly certain) gave those details himself, but also, if he did, it wouldn't be a threat anyway. The verses on hell are written as if statements of fact. Theyre usually like "if you do x, y will happen" like cause and effect. The idea is that 'hell' is the consequence of life, because everyone will do something bad that will make them guilty and suffer justice. Jesus did the opposite of threaten. He stated the reality as he saw it(if we're thinking from an outside perspective) and then gave people a way out of that concept, with another concept about being a decent person and letting all the bad stuff you did go using loyalty to him as the release. Then people could decide if they were gonna keep on living with the old concept, move on to the new one, or pretend neither existed. And when you die you find out who was right 😅 in the culture Jesus entered into he was actually VERY LIBERAL compared to the people in charge at the time. So it's really like he removed current threats, which means he was giving carrot, not stick. Thats the basic idea. It actually is a really simple concept. It's just taught complicated and people make it worse by trying to force it. Jesus himself was very chill outside of when he scolded people who actually knew what they were doing was wrong. In which case, those people really don't need defending. And if hell doesn't exist then they're fine anyway. 😂

It's idiots conflating the very real scam the billionaire owner class engages in where they do get insane tax incentives that essentially make it so they pay little to no taxes for donating to charities that they often have financial interest in with regular people making normal donations.
Exactly it infuriates me people don’t know how tax deductions works. It’s a deductions not credits you don’t get extra money for donating vs paying the taxes.
Indeed. I really hope that Charlie never changes his behaviour because of this? And that he never returns to the topic. A significant number of those trolls will have only been encouraged by Charlie’s admission of pain, like some lame, toothless sharks. Trolls never need to be, “right,” about anything. They just like to see people get upset. It makes them forget their own impotence and failure at life, feeling like they have power over someone else. There's a level of pessimism towards kindness in recent times. I don't think anyone is too thrilled when they get hit with talk about ulterior motives when they do kind things for others.
I understand if it were towards someone else with less credibility, hell I'd even understand if people were still disillusioned with charity in general (especially after the jirard the completionist scandal), but moist is one of the very few people that I can say with absolute confidence wouldn't do that sort of thing, the guy lets the audience read him like a spread pair of cheeks so we already know he's clear of any shit
It could also be that a lot of these complainers grew up in an environment where they were very unfortunate(poor, for instance) and had to work really hard without help to get where they are. Or, have been working hard and still haven't found success. They didn't have people willing to help them. So, seeing any sort of charity or goodwill to them means it comes with "a catch". I do feel sad for those kind of people. They wear their bitterness on their sleeve.
It's not tho. Promotional giveaways are deductible business expenses. It's a fact. Google it. Charlie is wrong on this. He's not donating he's running a promotion. It's not the same thing.
People just assume that a tax write off means is that you don't take any kind of loss and you just write 100% of that off on your taxes. It doesn't work like that except you're very rare cases
I remember this quote from a show or movie where it basically goes that “in every moment there is the possibility of a better future but you people won’t believe it and because you don’t believe it you won’t do what is necessary to make it a reality and you resign yourself to it because that future asks nothing of you today” and that’s what these people making evil from good actions are they don’t believe there is any good in the world so they make any actual good they do see to be some overarching evil that must be stamped out and you see that with a lot people where they hate on others because they want to help because then it actually makes them feel and look bad for not believing the world can be better and in turn not taking steps they could take to make it better because it would actually ask something of them then what they’re already doing
People on the internet are so used to everything being bad or sinister either outright or behind the scenes, they simply can't comprehend that just normal kindness exists.
I mean it's understandable... But people don't Have to be a PoS when it comes to actual charity. I will never get how some people think. Guess in their eyes everything and everyones just evil or something.
People are so used to believing that everything is bad or sinister, even if it's not. One of the consequences of the constant outrage media and controversy baiting.
Also, why are people so mad about tax deductions for charity. The whole reason the government lets you deduct charitable donations from your taxes is to encourage you to give donations. It still costs money to donate even if you deduct the amount from your tax bill... It's just the govt giving you like a 30% match on your donations
People forget that Charlie initially donated all of the ad revenue back in the early days of his channel (2000s/early 2010s); he used to post the receipts as well to prove he was truly giving it away. I guarantee you over half the amount of people making these claims don't even know what a tax deductible is and they're just finding another "valid" reason to hate on Charlie
These people seem to think it means you just get all that money back or even more money then you spent? All while not thinking the original person sent that money is still sent that money. Unless they think Charlie's trying to commit tax fraud?
The cringe thing is that it is not even a major benefit. You don't pay income tax on the amount you gave. That's it. He's giving away money and still paying the tax on that money. There's no special benefit beyond that.
Which is weird because there's plenty of reasons to hate him like when he made a whole video explaining why idubbbz was wrong for apologizing for saying slurs and saying "slurs aren't hurtful"
The best part is, even if the donations _could_ be deducted, _and_ he wanted to, _and_ he did it, _and_ he openly admitted to doing it, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Losing x dollars to donations always causes him to lose MORE than just losing tax% of x dollars to taxes, so there's no possible way he could be doing it out of self-interest.
This is literally why tax credits exist for donations. Everyone wins, The people who didn't have money get some money and the person who had lots of money doesn't have to give as much of it up to taxes. Meaning they have more money to give to people to get more money back from taxes. I hate wealth hoarding more then the next guy but this is literally how you fix it but people are acting like it's a problem? Which of course he isn't even doing it as a write off, BUT IF HE WAS IT WOULD BE GOOOOOODDDDDD
It's just that often things turn out to be too good to be true, for example all that drama involving the Completionist, that's why people have gotten suspicious
I genuinely hope that you don't stop doing these because I was on one and remember when a viewer commented on how his father has a condition of some sort, don't remember, and you went "Fuck yeah, lets get him some money" which put a pretty big smile on my face. That’s why I don’t understand the controversy. Money isn’t devalued because the giver benefits in another way. Its still money to the recipient, so who cares?? This is so dumb.
Exactly. I dont get people who get mad at mr.besst or other youtubers who do things like this. Even if it was for tax deductions, there still is a good effect happening. The people who complain would also quickly switch up if they got chosen for a giveaway like this.
You're a real one, in this day and age you see your blessed and want to share that blessing with others. Shouldn't be any of their concern. The people that hate are jealous ones, don't let them bother you and bring your energy down brother. Haters gonna hate. Keep up the great work!
The key concept people aren't understanding here is that even if it is a tax write off, YOU STILL SPENT THE MONEY! All "writing it off" would do is make it so that you don't owe taxes on the contribution. So if you give $1000 to charity, taking a "write off" means you don't have to pay the $30 in taxes or whatever associated with that $1000. But there is no universe where "writing off" an expense makes you better off than not spending the money.
Something he didn't even mention in the video: Charlie spent years donating his entire income from his channel to charity. If that doesn't show you he's serious about giving back to people in need I don't know what does. People will look for any excuse to hate on a creator. I seriously don't understand how you could twist someone's generosity like this. Imagine if you gave $100 to a homeless person and they said it's because you're trying to get a tax write off. You'd be furious
i have a feeling a lot of these people just can't fathom the concept of giving out of pure good will and generosity. though tbf, with the amount of fake content, influencers or content creators disappointing their fans with some scandal, a good amount of these people could also just be too pessimistic for their own good.
Tbf even if it was for a tax write off, I don't understand how that would be vile. Like yeah he'd pay less taxes, but at least he knows where the money goes, he knows it will actually help someone and won't get stolen in an act of corruption, I'm canadian. We PAID 1/4 OF A BILLION to 2 dudes on their basement who never did crap, and since it's on contract it isn't theft... so they don't have to pay back the money. So no I don't like paying taxes when they don't repair the roads here to instead buy decorations that cost million of dollars to promote the bus and metro, while reducing the service for said bus and metro. I am very sour
Charlie, you gained even more respect from me for having streams like that. You help people who possibly need it and even when people just want it, you give it because like you said and just the fact you acknowledge your position and how big your status is and all you wanna do is just to give back to those who support you and I'm sorry that some others see that as a petty action like a tax write off and just don't see the good that you try to do. However keep your head up man. You do so much good man. And you're helping so many people
I’ve seen people say the same about mr beast that everything he gives away is “just a tax write off” Then they say that it’s hurting the winners because they have to pay taxes on it. My conclusion is these are people who have never even filed taxes
While giving a gift is not deductible, taxes on gifts can be pretty daunting because you actually have to pay taxes twice. A large portion of it is taxed before you ever receive it, and then what you actually receive is taxable income Since the taxable income is the _received_ value of the gift and not its original value, then they will always be better off with the gift than without it, assuming they don't stupidly spend all their money the instant they get it
@@DracoHandsome You are absolutely full of shit. None of that is true. Edit: I wonder if this isn't like how people don't understand how income taxes work due to decades of garbage Hollywood screenwriting that feature plot points like someone earning two dollars more than they did the previous year and now they're in a higher tax bracket and have to pay a lot more (that's not how tax brackets work) or how someone itemized their deductions and have to pay more tax as a result (you can either throw out the Schedule A and claim the standard deduction, and if you forgot to do that the IRS still gives you the standard deduction if it's higher unless you checked the box on the Schedule A that tells them not to). There's probably some shitty Netflix show that pushed the idea of gifts being doubly taxed and that's where these idiots are getting their ideas.
The funniest thing is that mr beast takes into account the income tax that comes from winning his challenges. After Chandler had to sell his private island because he couldn't pay taxes on it, Mrbeast just gives the winners extra money to account for the taxes
@@idkwhybut... it depends where the giftee is. Here in Chin--sorry, I mean "Canada", you are literally supposed to report EVERY SINGLE F[un]ING THING YOU GET, including gifts, even if it's handmade etc on your taxes lol, the value of it anyway. The thing is that probably no one does because it's literally impossible and there's no way for anyone to know or audit it unless it's like a house, car, stocks, business or something that inherently has legal mumbo jumbo tied to it.
The other thing no one thinks about is that a tax deduction is not a credit. It doesn't reduce your tax liability dollar for dollar. It reduces your taxable income, which determines your liability. So, say you're in a 10% tax bracket and can write off that you donated $100. You're dropping your taxable income by $100, saving $10 in tax. BUT, that $100 is still spent. You're not netting any positive inflow of cash. You're still spending the money. To make it tax deductible, Charlie would have to flow it through a business, collect receipts for the money sent, and have a justifiable reason why the money has an ordinary and necessary business purpose to claim it as a legitimate deduction that the IRS would (probably) not be able to contest in an audit and make you pay tax, fees, and penalties. Claiming deductions that you're not allowed to take on money you're spending in a live stream is such a brain-dead concept, haha
Technically he can write off donating money to people as an expense because he could justify that those are production costs. Game shows do this as well. The cost of prizes can be considered as a production expense, which can be written off.
Pretty much this i don't get how people make it sound like he is gaining money from this. At best in the ultimate win win scenario he gains happy followers and his cost is 0$ but its not like its making him money by being deducted from tax.

@@MatthewNope TBH sometimes that's better than dodging. Like if you say you don't like gay porn then people will start to call you homophobic regardless what your reason is. That applies to basically everything politics, religious, race, gender and sexual related topics. If you don't like something there isn't necessarily well-understood reason why.
This reminds me of an incident that took place a few years ago in my country. There is an area where every year several storms will come and fuck everything up, so people's lives there mostly depend on donations and most of that comes from charity campaigns organized by celebrities and humanitarian organizations. But one day, someone made up a story that people never received money and that the organizations and celebrities lied to everyone, for no reason at all. And for some reason, this hypothetical story became famous on Facebook (on par with Twitter in the US) and newspapers started massively reporting on the story even though there was no evidence and people actually believed it. The story became so serious that there were people suing celebrities, but the only problem was that the people filing the lawsuits had nothing to do with it, they didn't live near where the disaster took place or participate in the charity campaigns as if they doing it just for attention. After the government stepped in and investigated, the result was that it was all internet BS. However, the images of participating celebrities and charity campaigns were completely destroyed so no celebrity dares to participate in charity campaigns anymore because they are afraid that such an incident will happen again and affect their career. So from then on, those affected by natural disasters never received any donations, and most people on Facebook still thought they did the right thing.

USA: I used a tax write-off for my $20,000 student loans. You know what my "write-off" amount was? $12.00. Write-offs don't make purchases free, they make the taxes on said purchases (or in my case, interest paid on purchase) lower or non-existent. That's it. Why would anyone be so mad about that? Taxes aren't fixing the roads anyway, just paying for white collar lawsuits in most states, so calm down.
@saltiestsiren that's exactly how it works. Do we not generate enough taxes to pay for our services. Taxes instead are used to curb inflation by getting liquid assests out of the economy. We operate off of a fiat currency that predicts it's value tomorrow off of its debt today.
Some people see others do good things and feel judged, like they are telling them "if you don't do this you are a bad person" that is how they feel, its not true, but it feels true to them.
You know what's better than wanting tax write-offs?... Just not spending money... This is the most annoying thing to hear as a business owner. People thing tax write-offs gets you more money... it doesn't... it saves you from giving more money to taxes on the money you spent FOR the tax write-off... if you just don't spend the money in the first place... you'd have MORE money. These people have no idea how "tax write-offs" or business in general even works.
@@painless4785 right... because that's what a write-off is haha. You can make business expenses without itemizing them (stupid) but then the business' taxable income will be higher. The only "loophole" in business write-offs are capital investments at the end of the year or prepaying for things needed for the business in the following year. But the shareholders need to be okay with those expenses because any expense takes away from the margin the shareholders will receive.
@@jakehundley Sure, I was considering 'write-offs' to be protected activities like charity, hedge funds etc. and making a delineation between expenses and write-offs. But sure, it's the same category in effect. I just meant it is not unknown to include everything and anything as a business expense and artistic accountants can literally change your tax slabs based on that.
It just kinda sucks cuz people tend to be super skeptical of kindness. That's the thing about it though, those who are willing to put that aside can see how much good there really is. Life feels so negative and sadness is everywhere when you think about it. But hey, I'm glad that people like you are just genuinely happy to help others. The kinda people don't often get super rich and famous, there's a lot of head stepping and backstabbing in the business industry, so those at the top arent typically super giving.

These people seem to think it means you just get all that money back or even more money then you spent? All while not thinking the original person sent that money is still sent that money. Unless they think Charlie's trying to commit tax fraud?
Why is Charly bothered in the first place? The people are clearly idiots getting their "knowledge" from twatter / social media - nothing of value
Oh for sure, why would anyone even care if it was a tax ride off? I’d rather see the money for to random people who need it over the government
This right here! Even if it were tax deductible, what difference would that make??? It would still be a good thing to do and a net loss to Charlie.

Would also make him lose out on the $13,850 federal tax standard deduction, since donation needs to be itemized
The key concept people aren't understanding here is that even if it is a tax write off, YOU STILL SPENT THE MONEY! All "writing it off" would do is make it so that you don't owe taxes on the contribution. So if you give $1000 to charity, taking a "write off" means you don't have to pay the $30 in taxes or whatever associated with that $1000. Tbf even if it was for a tax write off, I don't understand how that would be vile. However keep your head up man. You do so much good man. And you're helping so many people
I’ve seen people say the same about mr beast that everything he gives away is “just a tax write off”
Then they say that it’s hurting the winners because they have to pay taxes on it.
My conclusion is these are people who have never even filed taxes
While giving a gift is not deductible, taxes on gifts can be pretty daunting because you actually have to pay taxes twice. A large portion of it is taxed before you ever receive it, and then what you actually receive is taxable income
Since the taxable income is the _received_ value of the gift and not its original value, then they will always be better off with the gift than without it, assuming they don't stupidly spend all their money the instant they get it
The giftee doesn't get taxed @@DracoHandsome
That was hot
Can you do my taxes?
Technically he can write off donating money to people as an expense because he could justify that those are production costs. Game shows do this as well. The cost of prizes can be considered as a production expense, which can be written off.
Pretty much this i don't get how people make it sound like he is gaining money from this. At best in the ultimate win win scenario he gains happy followers and his cost is 0$ but its not like its making him money by being deducted from tax.
