This studio has, on numerous occasions, engaged in incredibly anti-consumer practices. Back around 2018 for example, they flat out refused to refund the game for players with zero in-game playtime when they couldn't even launch the game properly, due to the game not working on certain hardware configurations. If your average gamer grew a backbone and boycotted these studios as they should, these business practices would disappear within a year.

Exactly, the single player mode is a major addition. He should have said DLC are small additions, like cosmetics. (he'd still be wrong, but at least with his "definition" he'd be accurate)
According to me, If you have to purchase the base game to play the DLC then it is a DLC, if not, then it's a standalone thing..but i can already see some grubby developer twisting this and naming their new releases as a seperate thing instead of calling DLC, maybe there should be a comprehensive definition of DLC

@@DeputyFishok but what if the content doesn’t need to be downloaded? Server side updates can introduce new features without requiring a download. You’re just writing out the acronym, not explaining it.
To be fair here. IF the PVE is truely a seperate entity, aka no interaction between the 2 modes (normal tarkov PVPVE, and PVE-CO-OP). Nikita can actually get away with this. Look their two seperate games, you just get early access to the new "Game"/mode/not dlc. Still scummy, but would be doable. @@lanabobana3311 So someone apologizing for hurting your feelings after you make it clear to them is wrong? Guess it depends on what you confront them for. Like if you confront someone about denying the holocaust, then yeah... "I'm sorry that you feel that way." is an awful response. But if someone accidentally hurt your feelings and you confront them about THAT, then that response would be perfectly fine, empathetic even.
@@Ss4Goten There's obvious nuances and context to take into consideration with that, and you're honestly just twisting it, someone apologizing for hurting your feelings and someone saying "sorry you feel that way about it" are two different things, ones more likely to be genuine, and ones a slap in the face.
@@Ss4Goten No, saying I'm sorry you feel that way is essentially just saying "Sorry you're a little baby and got your feelings hurt over nothing" The correct way to be empathetic in a situation like that is to take responsibility, even if it was an accident, and say "I'm sorry -I- made you feel that way." It's very nuanced but it's the difference between putting the blame entirely on the other person and almost making it seem like they're annoying you for sharing their dumb feelings with you that they shouldn't have or taking responsibility for your accident
To clarify, EOD was $175-150 after upgrading. Unheard was an additional $150 for EOD owners not $250. Now it's 70% and it's $50 upgrade even tho you'll get it free.
I love how they specify the PvE mode is entirely separate on an entirely different server infrastructure yet someone has already found an exploit allowing you to take loot from PvE and sell it on flea in PvP meaning Nikita outright lied about it being separate. Can't trust a word out of his mouth fr.
I'm not sure how tarkov is structured so I may be wrong, but plenty of enterprise setups will have different "servers" but use the same database for convenience reasons.
@@invention64what you mentioned. It can be 2 different servers, yet same structure, so you can pass local changes from PvE mode as if they were made on PvP client. So they may be not outright lying, just laughably bad at development (intentional package switching is cybersequrity 101 and in this particular case should be easily avoidable).
This was absolutely insane. People paid $150 for an alpha to hope for a full release and all the dlc that comes with it. Now in beta, they release Arena and PvE instead of pushing for 1.0. I hope other studios saw what happened and the backlash the devs received.
Anyone who actually thinks that the game is going to get a full, complete release is hard coping. And I'm not just saying that because of this drama either. The game has been in early access for over 7 years now and still lacks basic functionality, QOL, bugfixes, and on and on. To say nothing of all the missing features that were talked about in roadmaps and the like.
Those blue name guys are also impervious to rounds a lot of times too, I cannot explain the losses I’ve had to them today and last night. I might just stop playing for a while.

It's what my narcissistic (genuine napd) abusive step dad used to say *all the time* with an arrogant tone as well lol, it makes my skin crawl and tells me enough about a person
It's not as inappropriate as many people think, but it very much is a way to not apologize to someone. It's basically a polite way to tell people you have no intention of apologizing to them, but many people seem to lump it in with gaslighting (it can theoretically be used to gaslight someone, but you really can feel sorry that someone feels a certain way without being incredibly rude). Heck, I still think "I'm sorry" in response to hearing about a tragedy that happened to you is a bit offensive since a friend apologizing for something they didn't do doesn't help solve any problems, but most people seem to disagree with me.
@@Ilive_420 grammatically, it's reasonable, and in some contexts, can actually be evidence of good character. You hit the nail on the head there: it's all about tone and context. I had similar parents and it's interesting how the exact same words can count as either real love or blatant emotional abuse depending on the context and tone. It caused me a lot of trauma since it's effectively my parents saying "I'm not willing to validate your feelings" (my parents sometimes think that validating opinions is the same as agreeing with them, which is very toxic to conflate the two for what I still hope are incredibly obvious reasons).
I don't see what the big deal is with that statement (independently of the whole Tarkov situation). "I'm sorry you feel this way" is a perfectly fine apology. This is why one should never apologise, because someone will twist that and say it's not enough. I see this over and over again, people apologising and everyone not accepting it. Then what's the point? Don't apologize and just acknowledge instead. "X was a mistake" and that's it, but never say you're sorry, because people will attack you for it. As for Tarkov... I don't do multiplayer games and I'd be insane to pay 250 USD for it.

i feel people are completely overlooking the fact that they often set prices through the roof or promise things. and then look like good guys when they 'fix' the problem to be more reasonable after generating some news/drama. there 'fix' is just to adjust things to what they originally planned. sell item for 60 dollars? naw double it and sell it 50% off. its a sale, businesses do this all the time in the physical world
I don't even follow Tarkov (not my type of game) so I legit thought Charlie was talking about some in-game currency to purchase this DLC when he said "250 clams". But when he said it again as "250 dollars" I was floored. That's full price for 4 games plus tax. What kind of unchecked greed could make anyone think that's a good idea?

If anything, a PvE mode would be LESS intensive since they don't have to pay to keep their servers up for online play. It's supposed to be CHEAPER and they're charging $150 for it?! The main game is already full-priced! And wth, why planning for DLC when the game is still in EARLY ACCESS?! Just pure greed.
Nah they haven’t done that, although knowing BSG it’ll happen lol. What’s happening is some cheats allow cheaters to see if people have purchased the unheard edition and they’re purposefully hunting them 😭
Yea it's a dude on Twitter saying they found a way (it's tied to people inviting others into their pve lobby apparently), knowing BSG's coding track record I wouldn't be completely surprised but there's nothing other than someone saying "we found a way".
Umm, is it? We've had numerous instances of excessive greed and I haven't seen a real change in the industry. They just keep trying and see what they can come up with next. And the worst part is, they just get fired from one company and go to work to another to make other stupid decisions. Riccitiello for example went from EA (tried to make people pay to reload guns) to Unity (tried to make developers pay for each installation of their games) and he's still a board member of a few gaming related organizations (e.g. ESRB). The real problem is this: "problematic" people like Riccitiello keep holding positions of power in the industry
What makes it worse is that tarkov players are die hard members of that community and a lot of them treat it as their main game- then Nikita just shits on them for their loyalty to his studio
ESO pulled the same thing since subscribers were supposed to get all DLC free so they started calling new major DLC "chapters" and claimed they were not DLC so subs had to pay for them
@@rimanahbvee This is definitely an older thing. You get everything for ESO+ a year late, around that time you can buy the deluxe collection separately for like $25.
Its similar to war thunders high tier premium vehicles (you buy those so you can grind more easly (it still takes a shit ton of time to grind) ) and if you want to get a premium for a ground, air or helicopter tree for a certain nation (there are) you have to fork over 50 euro for the helicopters and 70 euro for the jets and tanks, charging triple A pricing for a single item in game that helps you grind out 1/10 nations and 1/5 of the stuff that nation has to offer is insane
The insane pricing model currently used by the games industry makes people forget that $150 for a pre-alpha game 7 years ago was astronomically high. $250 is just ludicrous.
I can't even remember when even that was acceptable. Even in recent years, people seemed to only tolerate retail release price for early access games. I didn't even want to pay $60 for early access BG3 just because it was early access, and it ended up being one of the hottest games of the year so I'd have gotten my money's worth.
The awful thing about this whole entire situation, is that the price still hasnt changed. The game industry does this sooo often: taking 2 steps towards shitty business practices, the community complain and there is massive backlash, so they take 1 step backwards. The community rejoices, but sometimes fail to realise that they still took that one step! The fact that a game sells a 250 dollar dlc is absolutely insane to me, and if they get away with this, it wont be good for players of any game in the futute
It's insane. They're so focused on "ok we'll add a few new perks to it!" Okay... Doesn't change the fact the price tag is actually mr. krabs tier greed.
I was playing a game of Insurgency Sandstorm a while back on the PvE mode, and while we were waiting for the round start we were chatting, and someone asked if we played Tarkov. One guy said no, since hackers were so abundant in game. The guy challenged him on it, said maybe it wasn’t so bad and the devs were working on it. This guy then had us join his personal discord server, wherein he provided screenshots from a game hacking server he was a member of. The screenshots were of leaked code and patch information from Tarkov that could assist with workarounds for the new patch. Thing is, the leaks on the server were dated ONE WEEK before the patch actually dropped. Tarkov has been screwed for years from the inside, so this is just digging the hole a little deeper than it already was.
I mean, just do a search for Tarkov cheats and look at their public Discords. There are multiple that have literally *thousands* of active members at basically all points of the day.
Reminds me of how the Payday devs said they'd never do microtransactions....and then they added skins that had stats attached to them that came from lootboxes.
This is why a lot of games become bad or fall off after they get popular. After a little success devs start seeing only dollar signs instead of actually improving the game.
The game actually has had ton of improvements lately. They decided to be snakey and try to cash in on the momentum of those QOL updates. People are not that stupid lol

My friend is pre-law and said that this lawsuit would be so easy, he could win it. He pointed out, they literally admit in this post that they were selling something they knew they couldn't support. By saying they don't have the "infrastructure" that means they were willingly selling a product they have admitted they know they can't provide right now. Even if they argued "well if it's just for the unheard edition", they have no idea just how many of those editions they would have sold. Say it was a huge success and everyone and their mother bought the Unheard Edition, could they then not support it? It's so ironic in the post that was meant to "fix" everything is probably going to be the best evidence used against them in a fraud/false advertising court
playing a bit lf a devil's advocate: That's technically not true, since its impossible to guarantee that game's server will allow for a unknown amount of players to simply connect to all of the sudden. Many many multiplayer games have tried and failed, during launch, to do that, though not all of them
Look, I'm cool with companies doing whatever (as long as they are upfront about it) because it's their product. So if they're being subversive, then yeah it's shit. But the point I want to bring up the community needs to have a bigger responsibility in not supporting companies that do garbage shit. Why are people still giving money to EA/Blizzard despite the constant scandals and controversies?? Vote with your dollars people.
I think this guy visited their lawyer to get support for his spin about downloadable content that isn't DLC, but that meeting didn't go as well as he expected.
Thats why they tried to secretly change the wording on their website. It previously said "all futute dlcs (like arena)" now it says "all future dlcs" so, single player even was categorized as a dlc in their own wording on their website, but had to change it after announcing this to try and slip it under the radar. Scummy scam tactics.
$150 is CE pricing. Unless it's buying retro games from a reseller or certain modern games from scalpers, who's going to blow $150 on _a single game,_ let alone a _game mode?_
$150 before was def worth it. This is a game you could easily get a couple thousand hours on and have plenty to do or learn. You would also in theory never have to pay for anything in tarkov ever again. That price tag guaranteed all future dlc and also provided you with a starting secure container of 3x3 instead of a 2x3 for the next highest version. This is significant bc the main mechanic of tarkov is you go into a raid with gear, get valuable loot, and leave. The secure container lets you put items from your raid into a place that you will keep even if you die. The $150 version of the game gave you 3 more slots to do this than the next highest game edition and 5 more than the base edition. There are other quality of life features but for those 2 reasons alone it made the price tag worth it.
To be fair people do blow a lot more than that on microtransactions and dlc but not on only 1 package, usually they just buy a bunch of 20$ stuff and adds up.

He states EOD users can have Co-Op for 6 months. But they don't have the capacity to give it to all EOD users for longer because they don't have the capacity and will have to wait for 1.0 (whenever that is gonna be) to receive it for free. That's like a theme park adding a new rollercoaster and along with it a VIP ticket at almost double the price of entry. A lot of visitors wanted this and been looking forward to this for a long time. Then they tell the visitors that they can't use the coaster right now, they can't because accomodate all the customers that are here for it, only the VIP's will get that now, until they finish constructing a long enough queue in the future. Then all the customers that have been false advertised to get mad and suddenly they go like: "Ok, ok, you can get in now with the VIP's but only for this first week. Then it will be for VIP's only. It clearly works as intended RIGHT NOW or else you couldn't even provide this compromise...
Not only that, but server capacity on a PvE mode is also stupid, just as much as D4 loading all stash tabs of all players you can see, if it's a PvE mode, just make one of the players the host, like a lot of other games do that, I call that BS, they just wanted to get more money, and thought this was a good way to do it, but they got called out, and now they're looking for excuses. I'm still waiting for Nikita to address the fact that they changed the wording on the EoD versión so they could lie about it, and denied it after... Let's hope the community doesn't drop this so easily.
Servers cost money... spinning up an instance for ONE person, or a group of people, when those instances are reserved for an average of 10 people is decimating... How is that baffling to you? I'd understand more if you were questioning why they chose to make it rely on dedicated servers, but not your inability to understand how resources aren't free, and handing out those resources for free is a net negative... and money from 8 years ago was already reinvested into the company to continue operations. None of the things mentioned are sustainable and BSG is already terrible at staying afloat while charging for variously overpriced editions of the game.
@@QQnowQQlater That's a bad take, you don't need a server for that, you can just make one of the players that enters be the host, and with that you don't need any server capacity, why would a PvE mode be connected to the server, you don't need to monitor it the same way you do with PvP, just make the PvE with the option to either create servers that you host for people to join you, or to play as solo/LAN mode, donee, server capacity problems solved. Don't try to argue with that, they just were looking for an excuse to ask for money, because they wasted the money of EoD version on making other modes like arena or the PvE mode, instead of finishing the game, and this was the perfect excuse.

The insane pricing model currently used by the games industry makes people forget that $150 for a pre-alpha game 7 years ago was astronomically high. $250 is just ludicrous.
Inflation!!!
@@JoeMartinez18 That’s not inflation, that’s extortion.

This is why a lot of games become bad or fall off after they get popular. After a little success devs start seeing only dollar signs instead of actually improving the game.

It's so ironic in the post that was meant to "fix" everything is probably going to be the best evidence used against them in a fraud/false advertising court
genuine question here, who would be the one suing them for this false advertising? Like can a random player do that or it needs to be a big org?

Yea they’ve given us so much more as a “dlc” then immediately step back when they see the possibility of getting more money. Fucking braindead.
Thats why they tried to secretly change the wording on their website. It previously said "all futute dlcs (like arena)" now it says "all future dlcs" so, single player even was categorized as a dlc in their own wording on their website, but had to change it after announcing this to try and slip it under the radar. $150 is CE pricing. Unless it's buying retro games from a reseller or certain modern games from scalpers, who's going to blow $150 on _a single game,_ let alone a _game mode?_

@@TomJakobW funny man
I don't know, go ask Star Citizen players.
I love how he describes what a dlc is, then claims the dlc isn't a dlc because of this definition, then proceeds to describe the dlc by infact describing a dlc

Thanks for covering this so much, Charlie. Nikita needs to stop trying to kill his game.
Best part about cases like this are that even if all of the bullshit was reverted, goodwill is gone.
The future DLC will probably have 2 versions. A basic version and a full version. Both will be sold but they will 100% push the full version. They’ll give the basic version to EOD holders and say “you got the DLC, you want more and it will be an upgrade charge!” While also pushing the more expensive full version everywhere.
Isn't that still misleading though? Just because there's two versions doesn't magically make one DLC and the other not.

only the VIP's will get that now,
until they finish constructing a long enough queue in the future.
Then all the customers that have been false advertised to get mad and suddenly they go like:
"Ok, ok, you can get in now with the VIP's but only for this first week. Then it will be for VIP's only.

Seriously good point I hope more see this comment
