Great video! Always nice to see more options. I am not the least bit brand loyal, but I do believe in “love the one you’re with!”. The price on this is fantastic. In August, I purchased a moderately optioned ‘24 Chevy Colorado Z71 in glacier blue metallic. I don’t overland, but we camp 50 to 70 nights a year and tow a small camper. I considered Leer and ARE toppers, but really wanted the RSI SmartCap EVOa. Unfortunately, in September, I could only order the OVS topper you have highlighted with an indefinite delivery date. The Leer and ARE toppers would require 5 to 6 week delivery dates. I was shocked that the fiberglass shells were only $200 to $500 cheaper than the SmartCap. Plus, the ARE topper that I would have gotten would have an additional $600 charge for the “Line X like paint job.” I wanted black. I did NOT want a body color shell. Given the wait and the small savings, if any, I ordered the RSI SmartCap. It was delivered to a local shop in 48 hours (no shipping costs) and I had them install it for me ($200). I absolutely love the RSI SmartCap and I could get it when I needed it. To be honest, if the OVS shell above was available, I would have considered it for my needs, particularly given the price savings. Looks like a great product, BTW, the Colorado and SmartCap look bad ass and have performed flawlessly this fall as we have wound down our camping season.
I just got one for my third gen Tacoma and I absolutely love it. After all of my research I concur that this is the best cap for the money out there. It’s sturdy and rugged. Solidly built. I was told they will be offering a pass through window kit soon that can be retrofitted into any cap you get from them currently. Looking forward to that!
I just ordered an OVS shell for my 2024 Tacoma after cross shopping with the SmartCap. It can’t be beat for the price. It’s hard to find reviews on the OVS cap as it’s not as popular as the SmartCap. Yet.
I got one for my power wagon a while back. Note the latches are nice but they freeze up when wet and then freezing weather. Winter here in Central Oregon Cascades so dust is not an issue at the moment but the tailgate will be the source of any dust this summer. .
Great review. There doesn’t appear to be many videos on the OVS topper, so this was a pleasant surprise. Was there some level of sealant applied in between the topper and bed rails? Also, has there been any updates on how water proof this box is? Adding some level of silicone does seam to be wise. We are strong considering adding the topper to our Tundra and move away from the open bed rack system. Thanks again for pulling this video together, from one UA-camr to another.
How much does it block your rearview? The rear window looks small and windowless sides make me think it would create blind spots but maybe I'm overthinking
Dang bubbles in the glass? Nice. Guess those were more important than ventilation for the dogs, or gas cans or anything else most people put in their beds. But super sweet bubbles
One piece caps like Alu-Cab are fully welded and much stronger. Alu-Cab products are also hand made in South Africa. There is simply no comparison between this and an Alu-Cab so yes they should be a fraction of cost.
@@Buckskindrifter my buddy has a RSI Smart Cap that costs 5k, one of the differences is the type of stainless steel used. His you can attach a magnet, my OVS won’t hold one. I expected quality differences between the two, however I’m pretty pleased with the OVS Expedition cap for the price and what I will be using it for. ,
I purchased brand new for $2300 shipped, I did some custom mods to it, couldn't be happier, was able to purchase my roof rack and accessories for the cab for the money save. I bet SMARTCAP is "better" but cost/benefit couldn't be beat....

We are going to use some weather seal to hopefully keep out most of the dust. Hard to keep it 100% sealed
Could y'all do a video on the install of the 3rd brake light?
There's a video on UA-cam that shows it. Wish I could remember or I'd post it for you.

So far so good on the seal. There are some spots that would probably benefit from some sealant but its been great so far!
Hopefully better customer service. I will say every time I’ve called OVS they are pretty cool…
If you camp in it, can you close/lock everything up from inside and then let yourself out?
No you can't lock it from the inside

2 completely different styles and markets. Not a worthy comparison.
I’m betting take away everything that comes w Origen of Manufacturing and they would be much closer in price.
You’re comparing apples to oranges. Not a fair comparison.

How could this be better than the smart cap when this is a copy of the SMARTCAP
Cost

Price?
It looks like OVS copied, reverse engineered and deleted the expensive side windows on the SmartCap. I got my OVS for $2,280 shipped to my door.
