I absolutely love this movie, and despite this scene having a undertone of comedy to it, Steve’s performance in it shows that he could have done well as a dramatic actor had he decided to go that route. Of course, thankfully for us he didn’t, as instead he went into a career in comedy and gave us some of the most memorable routines, skits and performances ever.
Steve Martin plays a different type of character in My Blue Heaven than in many of his other movies. His dark hair alone makes him come across as a different type of person than many of his white haired characters in other movies, and that's aside from how he convincingly plays a sharp, witty, and cunning Italian American New Yorker from a family part of the mob. He's a very different person here than many of his more aloof, semi-awkward, fussy, but modest white-haired characters in his movies such as Planes, Trains, Automobiles, the Pink Panther movies, Father of the Bride 1 and 2, Parenthood, The Lonely Guy, and even The Jerk. However, he's a bit more like his My Blue Heaven character in Little Shop of Horrors as the evil dentist, something about his dark haired roles made him less of a modest family man and more of a sketchy character not law abiding.
@Commander Keen I haven't seen that movie, but I will. Steve Martin has played, for the most part, 2 different types of characters (see my above reply)
He played it straight in And The Band Played On. It was a small cameo role. His brother dies of AIDS and he is left to sort it out when public health officials try to interview him about his brother.
If you read the book Donnie Brasco, that's something Lefty said to Donnie in a conversation about the 22 and why it is a weapon of choice for hits. They took it right out from there.
No he says that in the actual movie too . I think it’s just a rude word to use in court . Especially since this is the 90s when people didn’t even say it on tv .
@MF Nickster oh i see what you mean . Makes sense ! I thought he meant they changed it for tv or something . But I’m with ya ! Definitely possible . At the same time it’s a silly movie so neither would surprise me 🤷♂️
1:32 - this Lawyer has to be one of the most PATHETICALLY dumb fucks I've ever seen xD Vinnie got him to ask EXACTLY what he needed him to ask to get the jury on his side - it's HILARIOUS!!!
0:59 - that was his dumbest question of all, how stupid is it that he'd even ask that at all when he's in the witness protection? The jury was on Vinnie's side, particularly when seeing how sympathetically they looked at him when he complained about how awful it is being in a nice clean friendly town away from the city that never sleeps, and how it made his wife sick. Like Vinnie, those are true New Yorkers.
@@DeanTheLaughingMann you're about 35 now so I know you're old enough to have watched this as a kid. I loved it too. I remember always watching this and Roxanne. Love, love, love Rick moranis and he was in some of my favorite movies as a kid. Plus you just get a good feeling about him, can't explain it.
I love how he flips the lawyer's question to make himself look like the victim - whilst still fullfiling his oath to tell the truth on the stand.
The UNOFFICIAL sequel to Goodfellas.
And written by the wife of the writer of Goodfellas.
Came out first

Watch "The Spanish Prisoner", one of Steve Martin's few dramatic roles. Good film

@@commanderkeen3787 "Pennies From Heaven" was a bit too dark for Steve Martin.

"...and dere's a lotta dry-cleanin' involved..."
my comfort movie 🍿🥤 8/23/22
You're welcome. So solid!
I know this movie word for word lol
*He's a trickster! Flip the script, ...sir.
YOU WERE MY TEACHER!!!!!!!!🕺🕹️💲
The .22 is a more dangerous head shot because like Vincent said it doesn't exit and rattles around the brain turning it to mush.
sometimes it does not penetrate the skull, so a 38 is the best.

"kill the fart" - clearly a looped line to make this more family-friendly.

Would have been way cooler if Steve Martin played Henry Hill in Goodfellas.
love this movie funniest scene ever

Where. Do we get the old classic films 2023?
Michael Franzese sent me
Such a great parody of gangsters. Gangster movies were popular at the time it was released. 🤣
2:20 - :30 Yes he does. Many lawyers do.
*Testifying
Hey, it's Fuchs from The Thing!! And Gary from the Olde Towne Tavern!!
Ya i never know that, till today. Who directed this?

:)
Steve is brilliant but the movie blows chunks
Kevin Russell I'm nearly 30 and I thought this movie was brilliant.
Dean D I'm 54 and it's rubbish. Grand Canyon is the best thing Steve Martin ever made
Matthew Hughes haha noiiice

He made it something though. His performance is the only reason to watch. It's so over the top and ridiculous.
it’s a veggatabull 🤌🏼
