  • What if GoodFellas had been a comedy? My Blue Heaven answers that.
Written, Presented & Compiled by Joe Ramoni
    / joeramoni

My Blue Heaven is a 1990 American crime black comedy film directed by Herbert Ross, written by Nora Ephron, and starring Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, and Joan Cusack. This is the third film in which Martin and Moranis starred together. It has been noted for its relationship to Goodfellas, which was released one month later. Both films are based on the life of Henry Hill, although the character is renamed "Vincent 'Vinnie' Antonelli" in My Blue Heaven.

This movie was filmed in the town I grew up in. I was 10 years old when they shot the movie and I remember going over to see them film one night in the local grocery store. I remember seeing Steve Martin in that crazy haircut through the window in the supermarket. Thinking it was such a strange look for him. I love watching this movie now as it is a perfectly shot time capsule of my home town when I was a kid. Wish there were more scenes available.
Edit: I also remember seeing this in the local downtown theater when it premiered. The front of this very theater shows up in the movie when they take the limo to the baseball game. The entire theater erupted into cheers when that scene appeared. Great memory.

I’m which you. This is a great comedy movie!
Saw this in the theater- TWICE! Has always been a favorite. A mostly close second to Three Amigos.
Watched it regularly in college and now have made my kids watch it several times. My son now thinks I’m a film genius. Which I am -since I also saw Three Amigos in the theater (our family was 4 of the 10 people there to watch it that day).
“Lose the shoes” Siskel & Ebert!

I was just quoting this movie yesterday! All the times I watched this on VHS, I have a hard time believing it wasn't a success. It's just a fun movie. I enjoy a smart comedy as much as the next guy, but sometimes you just need to switch off and laugh a bit. Great cast, great movie!
