I'm shocked at how much the crime rate has shot up. I live in the States and I traveled to Medellin in 2014 and lived there for 6 months. I was teaching English and also started learning Spanish there. I explored Medellin solo, even El Centro and I did not feel unsafe or threatened during the 6 months I was there - and I stuck out big time. I'm Asian and 5'11 which is pretty tall for an Asian. What a big difference 10 years make. I've heard horror stories of foreigners being drugged and robbed. A few killed. None of this happened in 2014. It's a shame. I wanted to visit again but now I'm thinking twice. I love your content though bro. Keep up the good work.
Yeah man after 2010 Colombia had been through so much violence that everyone was tired of it, up until the pandemic safety in Colombia had gotten a lot better. After 2020 the economy took a big hit and crime began to surge again, since then it’s just been downhill & the narco groups have also gained more influence and power over the past few years.
I spent the last two years in Medellin and absolutely loved it. Thabk god i never had a problem. I was thinking of living there forever but im to scared to sell my house in Florida that has a 2% mortgage. Ive decided tp keep my house and live kn Colombia 3 months and usa for 3 months. 3 months on 3 months off. Giving me the best of both worlds. Its so hard to just drop everything on the usa and live in a foreign countries. Unless you abs jave no responsibilities in the usa its hard to leave forever
Awesome Video!! Wonderful that you are also showing the real Colombia!! Agree that there are many, many videos romanticizing Colombia, however you show that there is a very fine balance by exposing the dangerous and violent side as well….it is an important distinction to show! Well done! Gracias!!👍
Thank you so much, dude, for always putting so much work into these videos. I know you do them out of love for your country and a desire to let everyone see and enjoy what it has to offer, even though most of the time it seems like you go above and beyond and risk a lot as well. There is so much to see and do in Medellin that after only one visit, I was itching to go back. Fortunately, nothing unpleasant happened to me, but I did really like the cuisine and the people's hospitality.
I've been to Medellin twice in the last 8 months and never felt unsafe once. Of course there's a chance of something happening but it's still safer than some US cities. Just be aware of your surroundings like any large city and don't do anything stupid and you should be fine.
Thank you for reinforcing my decision NOT to retire in Colombia. Much too stressful with all the thieves everywhere. Mexico, El Salvador, Philippines, Thailand, Argentina are much better choices. Not only am I happy that I did not make the decision to retire in Colombia, in addition it appears I will never visit either....in the countries I mentioned you don't have to worry about being "Scoped!" It seems like the country has no moral compass....so sad> Guess I will stick to Netflix Narcos reruns lol. Stay safe little brother...consider getting out of there!

Amazing video bro. One of the best I seen of the city. I loved Medellin and will definitely be back. I was robbed at knife point in Laureles in broad daylight right next to the metro. A man came up to me and tried to sell me a lollipop, and then pulled a knife out of his bag. Luckily I got to keep my phone. It was a learning experience, and I hope things can improve. Crazy to know the locals can feel the same way as paranoid tourist.

Just about to book my flight to Medeiin and staying in Laureles for 3 months when I saw your video. in numbers, it's low compared to the number of tourists visiting or living in the city, but how many robberies not getting reported? probably a lot. Now you got me confused... I've read online and a lot of people say - just be safe, don't walk alone at night, pay attention... etc so I decided to look for another place to live. and then I thought - in the city you have everything - it's not expensive, cafes, restaurants, nice women and men, everything. So I decided to book a flight. But if you need to worry and look around all the time for potential threats - so, why? is it worth it? Please tell me if it's this dangerous or if I should book a flight, I really can't decide! thanks for the video
I made this video because I see many tourists who don’t understand how to behave in Latin America. People are a bit too nonchalant about situational awareness and safety. Many people online romanticize Colombia, but I wanted to show that it’s not all pretty here. It’s not nearly as dangerous as it used to be & Medellin is one of the “safer” cities in Colombia but Robbery is definitely common here and u are right many robberies don’t get reported. Just be aware of your surroundings and follow your gut feeling. Also make sure to speak decent Spanish!
Also wether it’s worth it or not is dependent on ur situation & many other factors. I like living here because it’s my mother country and my family is here, so for me it’s worth it. but I also kind of like being on my toes and always aware of my surroundings, it keeps me sharp.
