- Is Oklahoma ok?
Does everyone in Oklahoma go to church?
And does Braums have the best ice cream ever?
We’ll answer those questions and a whole lot more partner! So grab yourself an onion burger, we’re fixin to unbox the state of Oklahoma!
Oklahoma isn't ALL flat. And it isn’t ALL tornadoes, cattle ranchers, fishing, oil, sports, churches, guns and Republicans. Ok it is that. But, in order to REALLY figure out which part of the state is best for you, and to get to know Oklahoma the most proper way you can. And that’s by lookin at a big ole map and then zone into each region one at a time.
This is Oklahoma. As you can see, it has sort of a lot going on, and most of the action is in one big area of the state. But in terms of ecological diversity, Oklahoma is the most diverse of any other state. You may not know it, but Oklahoma has more varied terrain and subclimates than any other state, and it’s not even close. It has everything from high plains to mountains and subtropical forests and even a mini desert. It's kinda the south of the Midwest, sorta midwest geographically, but southern in culture. Oklahoma is kinda like Kansas but with native Americans and oil. Here’s a good guide on the types of people you’ll see in Oklahoma’s three main regions - the west, central and east.
Let’s begin way over here in the far western side of the state first. This is the Oklahoma panhandle.

Where do you live, Mr. Nick Johnson? In OK? You give a lot of recommendations with no evidence to back them up. Hope your real estate business is booming because your You Tube video productions stuck. You will pass off all Okies with your sour attitude about the quality of life in OK. You need an Attitude adjustment, man!! Are you crazy?
As an Oklahoman, we actually go outside to watch the tornadoes.
I'm from Oklahoma, but moved to Iowa when I was 6. We go outside to watch tornadoes, here in Iowa, too.
I'm from Missouri and I do the same thing.
We ain't scared!!!
Agreed
Tell them again
I've lived in Oklahoma nearly my entire life. No one here says 'yee yee.' Literally no one ever.
You're just not in the right crowd that's all
Yeah but what Is bobos chicken!?
That and nobody pronounces Muskogee that way either.
You just ain't hanging with the right folks
Same here ,,never heard yee yee,,,til now.
Just came back from an 8-day visit to Oklahoma, and it wasn't what I expected. Much greener and hilly than I thought. People were very polite and I got none of the antagonism when I chose to wear a mask that I thought I'd get (I obviously look at social-media too much). Overall, it impressed me. Tulsa, particularly, is very nice - with its outdoor attractions, bike/pedestrian paths, and arts district, it reminded me of some of our Pacific Northwest cities like Portland and Eugene. Thanks for making me feel welcome, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma not that violent It pretty safe state lol
Oklahoma isn’t as bad as media makes it. I feel like you have good and bad everywhere. I recently had a Michigander tell me they were surprised people said have a blessed day after daily interactions. That southern charm will leave you feeling at home. ☺️
Tulsa actually has one of the worst crime rates per capita in the country! I grew up there and didn't realize how dangerous it was until I moved away..we were subject to a lot of thefts, property damage, etc..but it seemed pretty normal at the time! I've heard Tulsa is on the up-and-up and it has changed a lot in the past few years. I have family who is moving back after 11 years overseas, and it seems a lot different now.
Well thank you were glad you liked it 😊 come back soon....
@@lisamarie5536 The media is the opposite of reality, enough said.

I have a Yee yee tattoo on my lip but I’m from michigan
Us Texans use it to make fun of Okies.
In Ohio it’s been a popular term. Now, when I say, Ohio, I’m talking about Southeast Ohio/ West Virginia border. Lots of Yee yee’s here.

It’s like as soon as you leave Oklahoma everyone gets rude.
I agree wholeheartedly. I’m just glad he didn’t say Oklahoma was Texas junior.

There is the Washita (wash-it-tah) river, etc. I thought we pronounced those mountains Witch-it-ah (Ouchita).
Yee Yee is a brand term made famous by country singer Granger Smith, who was born and lives in Texas. A lot of country fans say it but it’s not an Okie-ism.
To the outside world, Texas and Oklahoma may seem to be the same, but if you live here, it’s kind of like two crosstown warring high schools: bitter rivals in sports, although both are excellent.
Its a term from within the last ten years. The people I went to school with in piedmont had always said it.

Well be waiting for ya
I have lived in Oklahoma most of my 44 years and your video is mostly accurate. The meth problem isn't as bad as it was 10 years ago and I have never heard anyone say YEE YEE. The OU/OSU thing is true. Broken Bow area is really improving if you are an outdoorsman you can rent a really nice cabin down there some of them are big enough to sleep over 10 people and you can enjoy some fly fishing and go hiking or look for a Bigfoot. Lawton and Midwest City are definitely places to stay away from. In the last year I have been all over Southeast Oklahoma fishing around and the decline of the small towns is sad. A lot of them are so run down and I have noticed a lot of burned down houses in almost every small town I drove through. On the plus side the metro areas, OKC and Tulsa, just seem to be getting bigger and getting new businesses there are a lot of new houses being built. One thing about Oklahomans is that almost everyone here knows more about tornadoes and thunderstorm than most people, we even know all the meteorological terms and what they mean. We are well informed on severe weather. Check out the National Weather Museum in Norman.
Idk where you live but the drug problem is bad
I'm from Lawton and still love my hometown.
I'm In Duncan and we got so many Walkers it ain't funny
@Mike Miller You seem to be confusing Mid-Del & Midwest City. Midwest City is a great place, mostly if you're east of Douglas and north of Reno (out of Mid-Del). Del City is horrible, except the far southeast corner. If you're in OKC, stay away from Del City & Capital hill.
@@captianpj your not wrong but you can tell if your on the wrong side of town in okc and del city of everything on the house including the AC unit has metal bars on them🤔 otherwise it’s not AS bad
Lived over 35 years in Oklahoma with degrees from both OU and OSU. Never heard of Yee-Yees. We in Edmond called them Goat-ropers. No reason to fear tornados as the State has the best radar coverage in the country and they can track them down to a few hundred feet on the map. None of my friends did drugs and it is hard to get drunk on 3.2 beer. A nice place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit. Not a tourist State.
We have a new law and now can buy higher point beer at gas stations...it’s cold too!
Lol its 6. Now!
Isn’t regular liquor allowed in that state?.....vodka, rum, bourbon, tequila, etc.????? I hope not just watered-down beer!
@@PETER394100 Yes but you have to buy it at the liquor store. You can also now buy beer and wine at grocery stores, etc.
Some of my Best times were in Oklahoma 1965 & 2002.

Not too bad. You missed a lot of good stuff. But then Im biased. Born and bred Okie.

Come to Edmond it’s so easy to become successful just get involved in a smaller Baptist church because my dad hired a ton of the employees the he has now in that church
I was raised and spent my young adulthood in Oklahoma, though work has taken me away for many years (to the DC area and also San Antonio). I think this was a pretty accurate and even-handed video, light-hearted throughout. I really do miss a lot of things about Oklahoma, and enjoy visiting there whenever I can, usually yearly or so. Thank you for highlighting the state's diversity of landscapes - that diversity would be downright shocking to many people, even to many Oklahomans, especially those who hang out almost exclusively in the OKC area. And the state's people are great. This is all making me homesick.
OK State also has one of the best Wrestling programs in the nation. OK State won 34 National championships. Can't believe not mentioned...

Last 5 yrs, tornado alley has been moving more east. Although TX, OK, KS, AR, MO get their fair share. TN, MS, AL, FL, SC have been getting just as many if not more. Also FL is the lightning capital of the US.
@@rylencason4420
Actually Kansas and Florida has the most lightning density. Texas and Kansas has the most lightning strikes from cloud to ground. Florida has the most frequency of lightening and has the most deaths per yr than any other state do to the atlantic breeze moving over solar heated land. This lifts the moist air masses that host thunderstorms. Therefore Florida has the most lightning and more deaths due to a thin state as where Texas has bigger land and less people per capita allowing for less deaths from lightning. Little Florida has more frequency than big TX. LA would be a close 2nd for deaths. FL actually has from Cape Canaveral to Tampa which is known as Lightning Alley.
Yes, I’ve read the same thing. “Dixie Alley” is becoming a thing!
Seems like we are having a lot of minor earthquakes also, probably caused by fracking.
The east Tennesseee, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina get them in March. Just wait until May and Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas will get a lot of tornadoes. In 2019 (2 years ago) Oklahoma had a tornado outbreak with 149 tornadoes

Great video as always! I went to Oklahoma to "meet the parents" for a holiday weekend. We took a puddle jumper plane from DFW to OK, and I don't recommend that. I think 'somebody' wanted to show her friends how we spend money, maybe. Saw the 'Jesus of the Whichitas' monument, and the military base. They took me to some place where supposedly nobody finishes the hamburger, but I could have eaten 2 of them. I went to a tiny gym for a one-off visit, and saw the first Ford GT, that I had ever seen in person. I got to watch some Dallas Cowboys football with some authentic locals, and thought that was cool, being pretty alone doing that on the east coast. I bought some OSU sunglasses in a gas station. We went out drinking in a club, and I was glad to be part of a set of couples, because the men in there looked like the O-Line for OU football, not openly threatening, but the kind you wouldn't want to ask their date to dance and try to live to tell about it. On average, it looked like a nice state. The people I met up close did like to drink and smoke cigarettes until the room fogged up so bad, you couldn't see through it. You could definitely see the ease with which people could fall economically without some educational advantage. Any place where people are living very free, and not having a lot of outside influence is going to feel that way. It would be hard to choose over Texas given the proximity and opportunity differences. Just having access to DFW airport by car could be an edge there.
Good summary!!

Ahhh watching this video's Nick makes about US&A make me wanna live there 😭
I'm born and raised in Northwest Oklahoma, been here my whole life...and you're pretty spot on. Made me laugh.
Hey Meg
@@NickJohnson Hi!
I've never heard of a yee-yee tho. Maybe I'm more isolated and antisocial then most.
Great video. You did some good research Nick.
I try Larry
100% accurate but instead of going in the cellar, we continue on our day and actually sometimes watch the tornadoes.
Lawton, though very much so GHETTO has the Wichita Mountains Wild Life refuge, Medicine Park, and the all-famous Meers burger. We also have Geronimo's Grave here which seems to be a popular place to visit just outside Fort Sill. Mount Scott is honestly breathtaking because you can go to the top of it and see for miles. (on a clear day as far as the red river). The refuge also has bison, prairie dogs, a museum, hiking, The Holy City, and Parallel forest.
I visited OKC back in 2010 (I'm from CA). Had a great time. My buddy was living there at the time for his job. We went noodling but didn't catch anything :( Waited in a long line to eat at Nic's Grill, but worth it! Saw the OKC bombing memorial and it is nice but heartbreaking.
So helpful thanks for sharing.
I lived in Sayre and worked as a cow hand. I lived In OKC and worked as an Ironworker. Once again Nick Nails it.
I love it. Most folk here are wonderful people. It was a great place to grow up. I was born and raised in Tulsa Oklahoma. At that time Tulsa was a great place to be a kid. Great places to play with family at lakes. There are many. Country living is the best. Lots of great Country folks. Yes we do believe in God even though some may not be in church. They still love and believe in God. We don't just have Baptist but full gospel, and catholic churches as well.God bless 💝.
Did he mean to say Muskogee wrong? 😂 I grew up here and can confirm this all. Man, how did you get it so on point with never living here? 😂
Love this State left for few years got chance to come back will die here . GOD BLESS OKIE !
You may have just saved my life..... This was the best and worst video of everything I needed to know about OKlahoma. Thankyou for your service lol.
I can confirm in larger cities in Oklahoma you can go from horse ranch to crack house in 2 miles and hit fifteen 711s on the way
Man that's good!
I had no idea the topography of Oklahoma varied so much. That casino is impressive! Of course, I suppose, given that Oklahoma once was the Indian Territory, well. . . . Can we really say we're all that surprised they have such a massive casino there?
Great open spaces and silent places.kudos
Good video thanks for posting this.
