I married an Indiana boy that I met in California and we lived for a time in Marion. Wabash up the road is adorable and I loved the old American Gothic farmhouses and also the Wabash River. The remaining hardwood woods are quite lovely! People very friendly and kind for the most part😊
I was born and raised in Marion.. I left for a few years after high school but ended up coming back.. Unfortunately, most of the factories moved overseas, and the opioid epidemic hit us hard.. The south side of town is pretty rough now.. There's a lot of petty crime and drug related violence.. Growing up in the 80's and 90's Marion was a great place to live.. Now, not so much.. They only thing we have going for us in my opinion is the river, and the three huge reservoirs that are all within a fifteen minute drive.. We have some of the best fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting, in the entire state, and for the most part only the locals know about it..
Mark Lada Sorry to hear that. I loved it in the mid 70s worked at Resnecks Clothing store and they had another in Wabash. The Wabash River should be an excellent canoe trip.
@@jaenmartens5697 Resnecks was before my time, but another clothing and sporting goods store moved into their old building, Spiece, and was there until the mid 90's.. Pretty much all of the mom and pop shops around here are gone.. Everything is big chain stores now.. Our mall is basically closed.. The only thing in that building now is Applebees.. We need to do something to get better jobs here.. I'm afraid Marion is going to turn into a ghost town If we don't.. The state put a lot of effort into cleaning up the rivers.. The Mississinewa, which is the river that runs through town, has turned into a world class fishery.. We get tons of people from out of town who come to kayak and fish the river.. The Wabash river, which runs through Wabash and Huntington, isn't coming around as well as the Mississinewa has.. There were just too many factories dumping waste into it.. Plus it got over ran by those invasive Asian carp..
As a Hoosier I love my state of Indiana and no we do not sit and stare at the cornfields all day we have beautiful natural state parks and the sand dunes!!!
Pretty negative and inaccurate view...boring, lots of drinking, Amish everywhere, wealthy are "snobs"? I disagree with many of these generalizations. Too many economically hurting towns and their resulting problems, for sure, but also some great cities -Fort Wayne, Indy, Evansville, Bloomington-all underrated.
Grew up in Indiana. Have lived in a major city in the North East for 23 years. Cannot wait to move back home to more sane, more friendly people and a better atmosphere.
I am a native of Michigan but I moved to Indiana in 2012. I like Hoosiers...they are nice people. FYI, Indiana winters are NOTHING compared to Michigan winters.
Being a Hoosier is great. Plenty of music, sports, museums, community events, etc….reasonable cost of living, affordable housing, less traffic, good food, plenty of educational options, plenty of churches….I was definitely glad to come home after several years in SoCal.
Love my "fly over" state. Born and raised in Jackson County-home of the first train robbery (not a proud thing, but true) and John Mellencamp. I now live in rural Washington County in the middle of Amish country. In my opinion I live on the prettiest piece of land in our state. Love where I live and couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
I prefer Jefferson Co., on the Ohio River - in the *Middle* of the Indy/Cincy/Louisville triangle. Access to *city stuff* if you really need something. We have boating, a national park with hiking and waterfalls, festivals all summer, and pretty mild winters for the last several years. One thing we DO NOT need, is any more liberals trying to change it into one of the CITIES they LEFT!

I have lived in rural Indiana about 45 miles SW of Fort Wayne for 67 years on a chain of 7 lakes that connect to a chain of 6 lakes. I have no idea why it's not called one chain of 13 lakes. My county alone has 101 natural lakes and the deepest and largest natural lakes in the state. If you are into boating and fishing it's a paradise. Zero water shortage here. There are so many lakes that a middle class family can afford lakefront property. The difference between winters when I was a kid and now are night and day. Most years we don't even get ice on the lakes thick enough to walk on or not at all. It was 62 degrees (F) on Christmas this year. For the most part people have a live and let live point of view. I spent my career traveling and working all over the country and this is where I call home and it fits me. Thank you for your time.

C-TOS Yes, such as the so-called mutiny of the Tuskegee flyers who weren't permitted in the white officers' club at the end of WWII despite Truman's orders, and the whites only signs in Seymour. When the officers and their families were taken to Fort Knox until their court martial inquiry, Nazi officers were allowed into the whites' only club and allowed to roam free. So, yes, much like Kentucky. Ohio of the states across the river from Kentucky had the majority of Underground Railroad stations. Indiana had more Southerners, which might have accounted for the KKK running the state govt in the 1920s, and their eugenics attempts that were allegedly studied by Hitler.
Indiana is 3 states. The north is like smaller town Michigan. a lot of industry and education ( Notre Dame, Purdue.). The center is all about Indianapolis, a major urban center surrounded by large farms. The south is an extension of Kentucky. some industrial towns, ( Honda civic ) a lot of coal mines, a few oil wells, and farms.

I married an Indiana boy too. Im from MI. Lol. He is a doll. :)
Wabash city is terrible
