@Dark Blue The only reason my wife doesn’t like to visit Idaho is because the last time I routed us through Jackson. Middle of the night, a momma moose and her not so little baby moose ran out in front of our car. Baby may have been a bull because it was fully racked. I hit the second moose and it destroyed our car. Long story long, family is afraid of the drive & flying from Denver to Idaho Falls is kind of dumb when you think about how spread out things are. When we are actually in Idaho, my family loves it.

I like to watch all of the out-of-staters move in during the summer when it's all gorgeous but then they turn around and move to a different area after their first winter here because North Idaho actually typically gets at least 4-8 feet of snow every year and the temps are typically 12-36 degrees during the day..😂🤣 I used to walk to school in as cold as -12° on a regular basis. 🥶

Greetings from Switzerland. I grew up in America and Idaho was one of the many places. Sun Valley and Driggs in the 70s and I still have family memberes in Ketchum, Boise and Hailey. Was last there in 2019. Zurich-Frankfurt-Tacoma-Boise and that route back again. Love you Idaho!!!
I am from the east coast and moved to Cali in 2012. Lived there for 10 years and I recently moved to idaho. The first thing I experienced was a lady that came up to my car to say how beautiful my dog is and then said “ God bless you dear” in that motherly warm cozy (cookies in the oven) kinda of way. It felt nice 🥰
Lifelong Idahoan. Very disappointing what’s happening. My favorite hot spring I’ve been going to for years is constantly overcrowded. A human soup bowl. Yuck. I take my kids to lakes and mountains to show them the natural beauty but most these places are getting literally trashed.
I think the real reason everyone is flooding Idaho’s borders is that Nick’s singing makes it so compelling. Way to drive up those property values, Nick! 😜
Omg yes! Boise does remind me of how Austin was 15 years ago, back when Austin was a nice place to live, before all the homelessness etc. Moved to Boise from Austin and Boise now reminds me of the old Austin that I loved. I love living here now.
In between the wonderful place Austin was to live and all the homelessness was the phase where hoards of west coast people with money from selling their properties moved in and the cost of rent and buying property went through the roof. You knew once that happened, the homelessness and also crime would soon follow and it did. Almost as if it were planned. Austin has been designated, together with San Antonio as a future smart megacity. Cannot wait to get out. Really too bad that incredible quality of life Austin enjoyed went on the chopping block.
Idaho born and raised (born in Boise). I love Idaho. Camping is so fun, my step dad and mom always took me and my brother on camp trips every summer. Love Idaho.

Same in Coeur d'Alene. Looking to go back home to Wyoming, where I grew up. Would rather have snow falling sideways in 80mph winds that dominate the winters, than this convergance of Cali and Eastern USA mentality, that has caused our lovely towns to turn into liberal, complaining people, rising crime and prices and ungodly traffic that is now, Cd'A and Sandpoint. They even want to kill the native deer that come into their yards, talking a raffle! My Lord! No. Idaho is overwhelmed! Lived here for 40 yrs! I'm out of here, come Fall, Hell or High Water!
The kinda rudeness your used to is nothing. If your nice to the people coming they’ll be nice back but if your remember these people are from big cities. The grew up rough so be nice
That is not the Coeur d'Alene Reservation you pointed out on the map, that is the Nez Perce Reservation. The Coeur d'Alene Reservation is farther north.
*My grandparents are from the Midwest but moved to Idaho in the 80s - Coeur D' Alene specifically. Such a beautiful, peaceful place.* Thanks for this vid, Nick!
They’re not moving because it’s terrible. They’re moving because where they come from is so good that it’s the most sought after real estate in the United States and it’s driving up home values to the point where housing isn’t affordable.
@@pulsatingsausageboy2076 Sorry. But I was born and raised in California. After military service, and living different places around the country, and the world, we realized what a shithole California has become. Why pay so much to live in a crime ridden, morally bankrupt shithole?
We are being overrun by transplants. People are coming and bringing their politics. why leave a craphole (you created) and move to a beautiful state like Idaho and ruin this state with your liberal, one sided views.
I went to college at Eastern Washington University. Northern Idaho was where I spent a lot of time enjoying the great outdoors. Hiking , camping, great fishing, boating. Yes the winters can be long and harsh but if you love the outdoors it’s awesome.
I'm a Californian in love with Idaho! Our close friends chose to pack up and leave Cali for Meridian, ID. We had a chance to spend time visiting them last year. Nothing but love! My hope is that our kids will move out of CA and start their families here.

I've been binge watching Nick Johnson videos every day for the last month. So good dude. Do you have a timeline of when you'll be releasing the rest of the states unboxing videos? Also are your songs on spotify? The people need answers nick!
I think of Idaho as the perfect Pacific Midwest. Not too liberal, not too barren but not too metropolitan, an equal balance of all the other key factors, etc. Seems very nice.
@Burgman Keith I can’t compare it to those places. I have 5-6’ snow drifts on my land , while there is no snow in their spots. Part of the roof of my workshop came off during a Canadian system that came down a few months ago. I call that windy. There are significant winds almost every week. I’ll still take it over CA any day, winds are better than the boot of the state crushing you.
@@kftc1980 Its like Nate Shelman, talk radio host in Boise, said "California is coming to Idaho whether you like it or not". Libs run much of the school system there in Idaho. Boise has a lib mayor. I’m a Californian born and raised. I moved up to Boise area last September during the lock down. I’m a conservative and with California becoming more liberal Idaho seemed like a great idea. All I can say is, it’s not the oasis I hoped for. Many people truly hate Californians. The people here are just different. Not always in a good way. Some of course are wonderful. The traffic is getting really bad and the prices have sky rocketed just since I’ve been here. The businesses love the money but they don’t want to pay the employees any better. Also- it’s a right to work state so there are zero labor laws and you can be fired at any moments with no explanation. So the decent jobs are scarce and the prices are high! There’s a lot of places to camp or hike, but not much for shopping beyond Target and chain stores. It’s very cold in the winter and hot as hell in the Summer. Oh! And bring a vat of lotion because it’s dry as toast all year long! 🤪

I was born and raised in Idaho, in a small town on the border or Oregon and Idaho. I still live here and it's frustrating because I feel like it is almost impossible for locals to buy homes now. We saved up while renting, just to get evicted during the pandemic because housing prices went through the roof, and though we never missed a payment, the landlord wanted to kick us out to sell the house for way more than what it was worth. We thought, no biggie, this is just the push we need to buy a home. Got approved immediately for a loan, only to realize we are priced out of our area. We don't live near Boise, we live in a small town, and yet there is hardly anything under 250k. I understand there are homes that just cost more, and that's okay. I just wanted an opportunity to own a home for under 150k (which was perfectly reasonable for our area a couple years ago). We worked really hard to save and get our credit scores up, but by the time we accomplished that, houses doubled in price. We had to move back in with my parents, because we couldn't even find a rental for less than $900 a month (we used to pay $475 a month for a two bedroom 1 bath house). We have been trying for almost 9 months now to buy a home. And of course, we have people telling us it's only going to get worse so hurry and buy the first house in our price range (which is not ideal for first time home buyers). I guess it is what is it, but I wish Idaho would realize people who grew up in small towns, do not have a lot of places to work that pay that much over minimum wage, which is still set to $7.25.
@@kiethj7 So, you admit to being one of the inconsiderate people who have no problem forcing others to listen to their loud music, but you also tell others to be considerate of your inconsideration of others.
My parents bought their home in southeast Boise in 1983 for $60,000 and now it's estimated to be worth $455,300. I wouldn't pay $2,195 a month to live in that dinky little house today lol. Too bad they sold it in the 90's when they divorced.
I grew up in Boise. Nicely done, you hit on some great things. Better than some other videos I have seen. Nampa and Caldwell definitely have some rough spots, but Meridian I would not consider dangerous in the least. It's your typical suburban America. Garden City used to be a lot rougher. It was bad when I was growing up, however, it's being gentrified like crazy right now. There are still some pockets, but overall, it's a much different place. The Treasure Valley as a whole has changed a great deal since I was a kid, and, it happened all very rapidly. I tell my daughter she is growing up in a much different city than I did.

What people don't know, is Pend Orielle is the 5th deepest late in the usa. Right after the great lakes, and they do submarine testing there. Also, Idaho is my home state, I grew up in Spirit lake.
The part that covered "narrow roads" showed clips of a vehicle driving through a portion of Meridian which is a major shopping & dining area called The Village. It's not an area that commutes to other areas of the cities. Those clips don't represent the streets of Treasure Valley. There are multiple errors in this including how Boise and Kuna are pronounced. And although we are known for potatoes that is not the major cash crop.
The best part of the video is "And now it's time for a great song". I love that you used the Magnum bm theme as a base for what I think is one of your best songs yet!!!
We live in Nampa, and are moving across the state, because we can't afford to buy a house in the Treasure Valley. The house we are buying was listed at $340K; over here, a house that size is listed for nearly $200K more!
@@breadqueen9011 We just moved to Idaho Falls! Prices are out of control everywhere, thanks to all of the people from out of state that are coming here. Many pay in cash, well over the asking price. Moved to Idaho thinking I t was going to be the. Perfect place.. we moved back after the winter lol. Great for adventuring, not my favorite for living.
I was raised in the 2C (if you're from the Treasure Valley you'll know that code) :) and moved away when I was 28. Garden City was never hipster growing up, and Caldwell was always the hood. I loved growing up there and being a fourth generation Idaho'n look forward to my frequent return trips to visit family and friends.
You definitely did your research, this is an informative video for out-of-staters! You had me convinced you were a native local until you said Kuna. Also, you can’t touch a house for less than $420K here now... someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Yes there may be a house on the market for $350k but it will be sold for $450k with multiple cash offers! And the builders’ lists are now more like 12 months (I’m on one). Nice ending song 🤣
So after 11 years in Mexico I returned with my Mexican wife and three Mexican kids to Fruitland, ID (an hour north of Boise). We had to leave after seven months sadly and return to my native CA (ugh...). Now, I have a dream job that lets me work remotely for the rest of my life, so we have our sights set on ID. We've planned a trip to Boise in May to see Luke Combs (hell ya!) and spend a few days being nostalgic. I hope they don't hate us with our CA plates and plan to talk to as many people about how to successfully return to ID without pissing anyone off... :)

@@offtopic4279 a little bit, I live in an unincorporated area outside of town, so I am insulated a bit. I have zero interest living within the boundaries of any city. Omg yes! Boise does remind me of how Austin was 15 years ago, back when Austin was a nice place to live, before all the homelessness etc. Moved to Boise from Austin and Boise now reminds me of the old Austin that I loved. I love living here now.
If starter homes were $500k in Austin 15 years ago, how much are they now?
Liberals.

I agree. It'll get better just be patient.

I grew up in Boise. Nicely done, you hit on some great things. Better than some other videos I have seen. Nampa and Caldwell definitely have some rough spots, but Meridian I would not consider dangerous in the least. It's your typical suburban America. Garden City used to be a lot rougher. They were only there for maybe two months. I guess they thought they could use their kayaks year-round. 🤷
I wish no one ever heard of or came here. Jobs pay little and houses cost alot BECAUSE of all the incoming. Big supply of people looking for work and not enough housing to go around, nevermind affordable housing. So the numbers are stacked against us.
Thank you 💯🙌🏻 Our Jobs here are no match for housing costs. I know too many people here that struggle to pay for housing because of how much rent and home values are increasing.
Thanks for telling it like it is. Not only are the wages low and housing costs high but the schools are not very good. Idaho's education system ranks toward the bottom of the list compared to the other States in the Union.
