- Hi everyone, this is a common issue on the BDB/SDB.
Usually happens after descaling

Instructions :
1. Power off the unit
2. Holding the 'ONE CUP' and 'TWO CUP' buttons, press the power button MULTIPLE TIMES until the screen comes on with '00:00' displayed.
3. Press the 'UP' button (which increments the numbers 01:00, 02:00, then some counters I think etc etc) about 12 times until '3r5t' is displayed.
4. Hold the 'MANUAL' button for 3 seconds which will have lit up - the machine will beep 3 times and '3r5t' will flash.
5. Press the 'POWER' button
The machine will enter it's first startup routine.

0:40 - Turn off unit
0:45 - Button combo
1:00 - Navigating the engineer menu
1:12 - Performing the reset
1:39 - End
What this is doing in my opinion, is a force reset so that it enters its first startup routine which makes sure the steam boiler will get filled with fresh/clean water.
By the procedure itself it would not solve the steam wand issue, because you still need the water to flush off the descaling solution from the sensor (chances are that you need to repeat this process several times until the descaling solution is fully flushed off).
The benefit of this method however, is to let you trick the machine to fill the water into steam boiler. So you don't need to actually open the top cover of the machine.
Life saver! Many thanks for taking the time to post this.
Thank you, that fixed it on my end! Mine was not a descaling issue, the light would turn on when I activated the steam but nothing would come out and I immediately suspected the steam boiler to be empty. Factory reset did force it to be refilled! Hopefully this was a 'one off' and the boiler will refill itself from now on
What happens is the descaler makes the machine think the boilers are full (different resistance than water). Once the descaler coats the sensors, the machine will continue to think water has hit them even when it has not. We essentially need to trick the machine to fill with clean water in order to rinse the descaler off the sensor.
If the issue persists, please check the following thread and follow the procedure there. You will have to open your machine with the alternative method.

It works.. thank you!
It works !!!! 👍
Many thanks I’ve been trying to solve this for a week now, still no luck after reset..so it looks like need to get dirty
Got my hopes up. Tried it, but sadly didn’t work. Thanks though.
Wow that fixed me
This doesn't seem to work for the US spec BES900XL. Tried it a few times, just reset the machine.
yeah, same here. Damn I was hoping for en easy reset.
Maybe it’s the thermal fuse at the right side of the steam boiler which died. Check Home Barista for a tutorial
@@Farcxy77 spent the money to have them repair it, they said they couldnt and replaced it. They didnt have a dual boiler in stock somehow so they sent the dual boiler combo with the grinder instead. prefer my sette 270, but appreciate the customer service.
