  • I own a Breville The Barista Express BES870XL Espresso Machine and after about 5 years of use, the steam want and the hot water are not working.
The actual symptoms are that the amount of pressure from the wand and from the hot water spout is greatly reduced. Therefore, you are not able to steam milk or pour hot water for tea, or in my case, fill a glass of hot water that I then use to warm a bottle of formula for my son, who is 3 months old.
But more importantly, I needed this thing operable by the time his mother work up this morning.
If you're in the market for an expresso machine, this one is fantastic. here's a link. Also, this link helps to make more.

This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

Thank you for this! My machine was running water from the group head when I turned it on or tried to use the steam wand. I couldn’t get it into a repairman for a week and had no idea how to do it myself, but with your help I have fixed the problem!
For those having a bit of trouble pulling it apart there are 2 screws under the front of the machine (under the control panel) that need to come out, and the back piece clips out in 3 spots on each side 😊

In case this helps someone, once you get the back panel off, to fix an airlock, remove the line that goes from the water feed (where the tank goes), both ends. Open the hot water valve by turning the hot water/steam selector to the hot water position. Push water through the system until water comes out by inserting a syringe in to the system (where you just removed the water line). This will push the air through the system. Do the same for the steam valve. Put it all back together, fill the water tank and test.
Worked for me and could not find any videos showing this.

Hello i love your channel and I'm really hopeful you can help me.
I have a Breville infuser with a serious problem. The Brew head works fine and I can get a single or double shot of espresso from it. But when I turn the selector knob to steam wand, nothing comes out of the steam one and it just steams through the Brew head and the water catch in the bottom.
Also when I turn the selector backwards to hot water, hot water comes out of the Brew head and does not come out of the hot water dispenser.
I watched your UA-cam video where it describes something similar and your fix was opening it up and cleaning a particular tube inside. I follow the instructions and open the back. That particular to be cleaned was not blocked in mine but I cleaned it anyway. I have no change in the system.
Breville as kind as they are, offered to fix the whole thing for $255 if we mail it to them. I'm prepared to do any repair necessary by hand first before I ship it to them. My problem is I can't tell what's wrong with it. Have you seen this problem before? Do you have any suggestions of what I troubleshoot? If it's a water pump, I'll gladly replace that but I'm just not sure what the signs are that there's a problem with the water pump.
Thank you for answering my email with any knowledge you could share.

    • @JimWellman
      @JimWellman  Рік тому

My problem was consistent until i cleaned out the tube. Another thing it would do was pour water out of the spout while I was trying to use the steam wand. So that told me there was a backup somewhere that was preventing the steam from coming out of the steam wand.
I just performed this same procedure again last week. My machine is working great again.

Hello, do you have a a video on repair or replacing the selector that does the espresso, drip hot water, or steam wand? Our selector is busted or there are some clogs that have stopped the steam wand
from working all together and when we select steam wand, all the steam comes though the espresso part or into the catch at the bottom with nothing coming out of the want. We have poked the wand, descaled and cleaned the machine. Any help would be awesome!

Hi . thank you for your video. My coffee maker is a Breville model BES870XL/B unfortunately the pressure does not rise. The gauge is working. The pump worked by taking out an output pipe from it and turning it on, and it had a good output pressure. All the pipes are clean, and I cleaned them twice with special tablets. The steam works and there is no problem. I still could not find the problem. If I find it, I have the possibility to repair it. I have two guesses, one is the external stream ring and casket and the other is the solenoid valve.
In the first case, the device has no leaks at all, neither internal nor external pipes. Thank you for your advice in advance

  • @bradk7462

Nice video Jim! Can you clarify what the symptoms were for this particular solution in this video? I have the same problem as Arthur Hoffman below (no water coming through the steam wand or hot water valve, but when you select either steam wand or hot water then all the water goes through the portafilter housing (where the coffee gets percolated). I'm not sure if the fix in your video here will solve my problem (or Arthurs).
(I note your reply to Arthurs post below about removing the steam wand to check if its clogged. I removed the tip, and cleaned it thoroughly, but that wasn't the problem. Not sure how to remove the actual main pipe of the steam wand however)

Do not use distilled water. It simply doesn't make good tasting coffee. Just use regular filtered water and clean your machine regularly. Do the backflush cleaning (with the little tablets) every 1-2 months, no need to wait for the cleaning light to come on. And then 1-2 times a year do a full tank descaling where you fill the reservoir with water and descaling powder... mix it up... run half through... let it set for 30 minutes... run the rest through. Then flush the system 3x with filtered water. Your machine will run like new for years and years.

Agreed. This video is definitely helpful and I'm glad they put it on the internet, but this machine was not taken care of. Mine is older than this and has not a single bit or rust or calcium build-up. Everyone, please do the backflush clean (with the tablets) every 1-2 months - don't wait for the cleaning light - and every 6-12 months do a full tank descaling where you fill the reservoir with water and descaler, pump it through, let it soak for a bit, and then flush it 3x.
