Repair Breville Dual Boiler Steam Wand

- In this video, I will show you how to repair the Breville Dual Boiler steam wand.
If you are having problems getting a strong steam blast, the Breville dual boilers are spraying water and steam or just spraying water, this video will walk you through the steps to figure out what the problem is and how to fix it.
Here are the quick steps.
Check the wand tip for a clog
Check the inside of the steam wand connector for scale build-up
Check the steam wand valve assembly for clogs
Check the steam wand hose line for leaks or damage to the o-rings - Навчання та стиль
DO NOT use NBR o-rings to repair anything steam related on this machine. The rated max temperature of NBR is 120C (as written on the box) and these steam boilers run at 130-140C, these o-rings will fail very quickly. You need to use silicone or viton o-rings, the size required is BS007.

The scale is a major headache with little clogs when using the steam wand... it's been great since getting it thoroughly cleaned out.

I clean mine all the time. Maybe for a video give the whole thing a bit of a clean for presentation at least.

Great tutorial! You are the only video that actually says to remove and clean the entire steam wand (not just the nozzle tip).
However the hex nut at :49 is stuck fast on my machine. I was able to open the machine and remove the whole steam wand assembly. After soaking in vinegar overnight that hex nut still will not budge. Any tips?
3:09 That portafilter should not go this far, should seal once perpendicular to machine, you might need to change the grouphead seal. It also gets this lose when there is less grounds in the portafilter.
Yikes, that is one horrendously dirty machine. Routinely keeping the machine clean will prevent *most* of your problems. Purge and wipe your milk wand after every use, same with the group head and make sure your doing your cleaning cycle with espresso cleaner or similar weekly, I like to soak the steam and hot water tips, basket and group handle in cleaner solution at the same time.
And if your getting that much scale build up you should be descaling regularly before it gets that bad, to prevent large particles causing blockages (although this could also be milk being sucked back up if the wand isn't being cleaned/purged).
Also I noticed how far your group handle is being rotated to lock the portafilter in, it should seal with the handle pointing straight out or perpendicular to the machine - you may be needing a group seal replacement...

hey man I appreciate the video! I just wanted to do some cleaning on my wand, it's been a while and found some gunk when I unscrewed the nozzle.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of bottomless portafilter is that? I've never seen that style

I also do have problems with the steam wand of my BDB 900XL. Steaming power is getting less and it's not really so hot anymore. Thought I might follow your steps to make sure to clean the steam wand, after having descaled my machine recently.
However...I simply fail to open the big screw where the wand is attached (not the tip!). Any hints on how to loosen it? I don't want to break the screw by using too much force...
When you say "big screw," are you talking about the nut, like the one I'm unscrewing at @:49 ? I got mine off using an adjustable wrench, but if it's really on there tight and you're afraid of stripping the bolt, then using a closed wrench would allow for a lot more force without stripping it. Sounds like you may have a lot of scale or dried-up milk in there if it's really on that tight.
@@eternalstories1 Thanks for your input! I got myself a matching wrench and even tried the closed wrench, but it still won't move (didn't use all my power, as I really do not want to break things). So I openend up the case and after trying to blow through the valve (like you did at 1:58) - nothing goes through. Seems like it's completely blocked. Do you have any idea what might be a good way to unblock it if I don't want to risk destroying the nut?
Update: I forgot that the steam level was set to closed :) - Now I can get air through. Added Vinegar around the area where the nut is, still couldn't open it. Anyway, I remove the whole steam wand valve, made sure it's clean and put all things together. Now I will give it another test
Oh boy if that is what the outside looks like then you're lucky the steam wand is spitting anything out at all. Yikes!!!!!

Awesome work. My steam wand on same machine sometimes out of nowhere stops working and then 5 min later works... confusing... any ideas? Should I take it apart same way and do similar things?
Hi @wbcfox. Sounds like you have buildup like I did. It causes intermittent problems. So it'll work great one minute and then barely or not at all in the next moment. Start with your wand tip. Make sure that's clean. Then take your wand off and check the area where it connects, I do this around :53. My problem was scale build-up and dried up milk. It would intermittently come loose, causing clogs in the wand tip. If you have build-up, you have to clean it all out to get rid of the problem.
I descaled my breville and after doing so my steam wand just stopped working. It just peeps when I try turn it on... I was told the thermal fuse may of blown. any idea on what it may be if its not the thermal fuse and if it is how to repair it?
Is there any steam or water coming out of it? The usual culprit with descaling, when scale build up is really bad, is scale getting loose and then clogging up some where else. That was my issue.

This happened to mine. Had to be repaired, was under warranty. It's not an easy fix.
i had that on mine as well. This is down to the descale liquid, it forms a film over the fill sensor in the steam boiler during the descale process. This make the sensor think that the boiler is full where it is actually completely empty. Net result, the boiler overheats, and the temperature safety blows which then must be repaired by a service centre as the part is seated under the boiler so it take some time to get to it (better get someone skilled to fix that)
Breville / Sage has already addressed this on their website, issues after descale is due to air lock issues, you need to fill the tank half, then turn on the machine, tilt the machine towards front and run steam.
Wow this is the dirtiest coffee machine I've ever seen. But thanks for the video at least I know what to do with it when I do my yearly maintenance.

This is just filthy and dirty. I don't know how you can think about making a video without cleaning the main product of your video.
And before saying "kids are my priority", maybe think twice about having kids if you can't take care of your appliance which can cause major health issues because of them. It's called responsability.
