Wow, what a brutal start as Maya to have the majority of the tiles within the 6 tile limit be desert and tundra. And congrats on the Etemenanki build, the few times I’ve played on Deity it’s always been built somehow by turn 40
Also, a fun fact - your capital city is located in such way, that you could build all 4 'Petras" - marsh (Etemenanki), desert(Petra), tundra(St. Basil's) and water(Mausoleum) and all of them will improve 2-3 tiles around it so will be +/- okay

You don't want to spread too wide to avoid the penalty, and there's no extra benefits for settling your capital on the coast. Something like a spoke and wheel look. settling near the coast when all your cities need to be within 6 tiles cuts off ~half your options, plus desert to the north and tundra to the south. yeesh.
Etemenanki and the Pantheon that gives Marsh +2 production is very fun when you have enough tiles and can pull it off. Pop skyrockets with the production/science to support. Just had both in a multiplayer game with friends.
I just had a deity game as Germany on huge Primordial map, where I had an insane amount of marsh tiles not just around my capital, but for my next 6 cities or so too, and I somehow managed to get Etemenanki too (+ Lady of Reeds and Marshes). Felt weird being 3rd in science right from the beginning and becoming 1st very quickly too.
Btw, regarding Etemenanki - it is missing in the World Wonders tier list video as it have been done before Maya pack introduction (same for Paitity for Natural Wonders tier list and Hulche for Unique units etc.), i'd suggest to redone or at least extend those 3 tier list videos with all the missing items
the esoteric joy of the Marsh Build and the excessive difficulty of securing Etemenanki on diety is one of those things that keep me going back to lower difficulties, just so I can set it up somewhat more consistently. Of course, even on emperor, it tends to make the game very trivial from the classical era onward, especially if your wetlands also have multiple copies of rice or sugar.

The settler thing makes sense. If you put out the settler let's say 5 turns before the next pop arrives, I would say the loss accumulates for each turn, which in retrospect will reduce production per turn hence stalling the next pop. Considering this and extrapolate in onto the later game, the deceleration of production in total, it would make sense, that a certain amount of optimisation would be beneficial. I would like to see a video about this topic, or a short... well, also to find out how far away I'm with my assessment :D
