Excellent choice, Jen. Disturbed is one of my favorite bands. David Draiman has a very characteristic and versatile voice, which perfectly mixes the harsh and aggressive with the melodic and smooth. "Prayer", "Stricken", the disturbing "Inside The Fire", the emotional "Hold on to Memories", and so many other incredible songs.
This was Disturbed's first radio single, and my first exposure to the band, back in the day. Followed by 'Down With The Sickness', which got them even more notice, and is likely their best known song.
About "Stupify" and videoclip: When lead singer David Draiman was young, he dated a Latina girl, and her parents never approved of him because he's Jewish. The song is about racism. In the music video, the band performs in a dilapidated room where a neglected boy is forced to live, haunted by the ghostly figures around him. In a 2000 interview, Draiman said the boy represents his inner child: "This inner child has been damaged in such a way that the world he sees around him is dark and frightening and marred by life experience. It's haunted by specters and ghosts from the past."
@@JenniferGlatzhofer you're welcome. Some humble suggestions for analyzing metal songs that you will certainly like: "Psychosocial" by Slipknot "Lonely Day" by System of a Down "Digital Bath" by Deftones "Rotoscope" by Spiritbox "Happy?" by Mudvayne "Thoughtless" by Korn "I Stand Alone" by Godsmack "Rise Above This" by Seether "Numb" by Linkin Park "Give Me a Sign" by Breaking Benjamin "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit And other softer rock songs that I'm sure you'll love: "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol "One" by U2 "Broken" by Lifehouse "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Bee Gees "Woman in Chains" by Tears For Fears "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down "Epiphany" by Staind "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" by Oasis "Here Is Gone" by Goo Goo Dolls "The Reason" by Hoobstank "You Get What You Give" by New Radicals
I love singing his music! Switching between the clear voice and the distortion, and controlling the volume isn't difficult once you get used to his style, but it's very difficult to remember when to breath in. It takes so much air to do what he does!
I got to see them perform this live back when they did their first "Music as a Weapon Tour". They brought out the lead singer of Drowning Pool(Let the bodies hit the floor) and The lead singer of Adema Mark Chavez(half brother of Jonathan Davis of Korn) for this song. It was their encore song as it was their biggest hit at that time. "Down with the Sickness" was just starting to get big at that time. Great reaction and analysis as always.
nice video and nice pic aswell with the song . besides i've listened to you album and i really liked it it's nice to listen to if you just want to chill . keep making Music and Albums i'm already looking forward to the next one
The Sickness is filled to the brim with these very unique quirky vocals and riffs, definitely one of the best nu-metal albums both musically and lyrically, yet criminally written off as just an immature gimmick, but it has some of the best comedically exaggerated social commentary you can find on an album.
keep up the amazing work so many amazing songs by disturbed. the vengeful one, inside the fire, stricken, 10,000 fists, perfect insanity, land of confusion, the light, open your eyes, another way to die, are you ready, hey you, bad man, voices, the night, asylum, the animal, fear, numb
Thank you Jen for this reaction and analysis I really enjoyed it and keep up the good work 😊. If you could I would like you to do a reaction video for three days grace animal I have become, thanks Jen.
at 12:06 As others have said, David is proudly Jewish and "tefached" is Hebrew, meaning "you will be afraid", but it's not meant in a threatening way but a foreboding way, almost like he knows people are afraid of him for being Jewish, and since he was trained as a hazzan/cantor, it could be interpreted as a sorta prayer of hopefulness, acknowledging their racism and praying, begging them to get past it without saying so.
you should try out Sevendust, with their song Black. B*tch is another song off their first album. they are both really good, just don't avoid B*tch because of the name.
Jennifer! Disturbed ... well we do know David Draiman can sing don't we. Such an intense staccato feel to this song. And a Hebrew word thrown in as a nod to his Jewish heritage. YES Jen you should find a way to throw in an Italian or Dutch word somewhere in one of your original songs (kind of hard to throw it into a cover). Interesting to read some of the comments that tell the story of the lyrics of this song. Great reaction and analysis as always Jen.
I love Disturbed so much! I'm happy when professional vocalists hear this and recognize the talent and technique that goes into what David Draiman does. His is probably my favorite male voice! I haven't seen you do the duet he and Ann Wilson (from Heart) did in 2022. Ann is 73 and still rocking! I'd be interested to hear you do an analysis of her voice from the 1970s, 2012 and now. She has embraced her changing voice and is just spectacular!) Let me see if I can dig up some good links for you. I'll come back and edit with them. Ah, I see you've done the Stairway to Heaven tribute and Crazy on You, so you have two of the three I would have provided! Lol. Here's the duet with David and Ann, "Don't Tell Me." ua-cam.com/video/YaEBglkCFVc/v-deo.htmlsi=kfBn9MnjBgoNvFml Maybe try one of her softer songs from her earlier career, "Dog and Butterfly." Actually, here's a link from a live performance in 2018. Beautiful harmonies with her sister, Nancy. Sorry, I went down a Heart rabbit hole. 🕳🐇ua-cam.com/video/UxifjRjSkwo/v-deo.htmlsi=W_KtjiIO2nbQyPy7
I just discovered your channel today. Love your analysis of some of my favorite bands. I would like for you to try a song called My Curse by Killswitch Engage.

I love reaction channels something just was painful to go through on this video I don’t mind pausing but every 20 seconds that’s a breakdown or complete dissection not a reaction

David Draiman is one of the gods of the heavy metal genre.
True that

I’m pretty sure I’d never heard this one before. I am a pretty recent Disturbed fan and still exploring! Thanks, Jen!
Oh same 😁
Just about ALL of their songs are great...but their 2nd Album 'Believe' is my favourite

I think the vocal pattern is inspired by reggae style cadence/flow
Next song disturbed asylum please 🙏🙏
5 months ago I subscribed to your channel by the reaction of Jungkook's song , and to this day I no longer see Jungkook's analysis 🥲🥲
Hey, can you react to RLY please? They're an amazing girl band from the UK and one of the girls is my vocal coach! She also won the voice kids at 13 years old!! The band won x factor the band in 2019 and have released their ep in April
I just subscribed to you.
