Love that Chaka Khan is singing with Steve ❤️✌️
YES!! I agree. She spices up the song from solidly good to GREAT. Such a smile to the listener. Love it.
As if this song wasn’t already good enough, Chaka joins the party and takes it to another level
Asia is one fine looking lady, rock on!
Beautiful
masterpiece by steve winwood with backing vocals by chaka khan and guitar and produced by nile rodgers from chic. just BRILLIANT ❤
Niles Rodgers equals absolute American Genius. Responsible for such great, creative music.
Absolutely, Nile Rodgers on guitar. 3 legendary musicians here.
Ah! I was going to mention Nile Rodgers but I see you already have it covered. Back when this video first came out I hadn't noticed him in the video, but I did notice just now LOL
Nothing like a little Stevie Winwood! This whole album was huge when it came out. Memories!
I was lucky enough to have it!
Yep 12th grade for me. Wore this album out!
Hearing Chaka Khan in the supporting vocals.....gives me chills every time!
Me to. Wow love to hear her voice. So talented. Still listen to Rufus.
@@leonardlaufer8296 love.... Through the fire by Chaka!
Stevie Winwood started at 16 yrs old. Incredible musical history with many connections with other musicians.
When he was Stevie . . .Too young to play in the bars, too
He was 14 when he started with The Spencer Davis Group
Yes he was 14 playing behind curtains in a Pub Bar because he was to young to be in the Bar.
@@Justyna_N even younger than I thought. So cool he had the confidence at a young age.
Steve Winwood is so talented and has been producing music since 1964. A great Singer/ Songwriter Guitarist Keyboard player .
The same voice that you hear in one of the greatest rock songs of its era, "Can't find my way home".
So far removed from Blind Faith or Traffic but the guy was so talented he could do anything. Still doing it too!
Steve Winwood is British and has been around since the 70s he is a Legend. 👍
His first song was released in the mid 60s. 5 decades of entertaining
Yep, Chaka Khan both did those backing vocals at the end, and she was featured in the music video, along with Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers.
Nobody like Stevie Winwood! Love this one! Such a great vibe. Shaka Khan! Thanks!
I love this. There is a live performance of Steve and Chaka Khan singing this and I love it. She is so beautiful.
Asia & BJ, you’ll love his “The Finer Things”, "While You See A Chance" and "Valerie!!!!
He was in the bands The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith before going solo!
Not to mention “arc of a diver” and “roll with it” both of which are album title tracks mr winwood was killing it in the 80s👊
Dont forget Spanish Dancer!
@@johntremmel3949 just fyi, they reacted to Roll With It 2 weeks ago
Yes! I love Valerie.
... and don´t forget "Back in th high life"
This is amongst Steve’s most acclaimed and popular tunes . He has done so much in this industry starting with The Spencer Davis Group when he was a young teenager in the mid 1960’s through Traffic and then his own brilliant solo career.Michael Bolton wish he had half the talent that Mr. Winwood has who can play any and all instruments.
Next up from Steve Winwood, how about "I'm a Man" from back in 1967 when he was with The Spencer Davis Group? I vote YES‼ edit: PS the guys in Chicago loved it so much that they released their cover in 1969 and had their hit with it too😉
Reminds me of my backcountry days in Sequoia National Park. Love Steve Winwood and Chaka Khan.
Ain't Nobody by Chaka is a badazz song!
Stuck in the 80's music. Lol
Take a listen to15 year old Steve Winwood - Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out... you'd be blown away by his voice at that age! (he was a great fan of Ray Charles)
One of my favorites! Just love Chaka Khan in the ending part.
Steve's a very pious man - has been going all the way back through Blind Faith
Spencer Davis Group.......Gimme Gimme Some Lovin
Steve Winwood has nice clean sound and a great selection of instruments 🎸🎷 in the fills
You guys are batting a 1000 today ! Boston and Steve Winwood...I'm lovin it !
I believe it’s his daughter, Lily Winwood that also sings an acoustic version of this and it’s beautiful
Wife here.., This song was extremely popular when it came out.., !! I Loooove this!!.., Still gets alot of air time on 80's hits radio 👌...Awesome to see you guys enjoying this incredible hit!!...❣
Hi! You are Steve's wife? He knows i mite be his biggest fan. At many of his live concerts. Did you see what i just wrote. I named him top musician of the modern era! Thanks! Steve
Winwood is 1960s rock royalty, and man did he have a great comeback in the 1980s. His 1st hit, btw, was with the Spencer Davis group: "Gimme Some Lovin'". British Motown, basically.
You know what's a blast as far as Steve's songs go? Roll With It. So funky. The video is cool AF.
They reacted to it a few weeks ago. Check it out. 💜
You guys should here Steve. In his first band . The Spencer Davis group . He was 17 or 18 ( 60s ) some amazing songs I bet you probably heard at least one before. . His voice snd a church organ. ( keep on running ) or ( I'm a man ) a few other great song . ( gimme some a loven) that's still used in commercials today .
This guy had collaborated with a lot of stars from Jimi Hendrix all the way to Christina Aguilera!
This is why I like reaction channels! When you discover something special... Like Chaka Khan singing backup for Steve Winwood. Loved this reaction!!
Best album in the 80s came out in 1986 Back in the high life” Nile Rodgers was a producer and played on the album and this track has did Chaka Khan
Great choice! You should do more of his songs, including when he was in the Spencer Davis Group.
Steve Winwood is a musical genius! Very underated. I named him top musician of the modern era! Look into everything he has done. Really Amazing!
Check out his vid when he was 15!!!!!!!!!!! ..AWESOME VOICE!!!!
It’s like this song has just been there all our lives!
I'm in Aus from my UK home visiting family but I just had to check out your reaction to Stevie's "Higher Love". I just knew you'd love it. Any artist who has Chaka Khan in the backing vocals is got to be good, right?
Asia & B.J. go back to the '60's when Steve was with the Spencer Davis Group and listen to 'Gimme Some Lovin.' Don't think you will be disappointed.
One of the greatest songs of all time I've been listening to it for decades
Artists that reminds me or could be easily recognizable with Steve Winwood are, Bruce Hornsby, Robert Palmer, Eddie Money, Huey Lewis and the News, Rick Springfield, just to name a few.
Steve was in the Spencer Davis Group. Y'all should check out the song "Give me all your loving" by the Spencer Davis Group. That is some of Steve Windwood early years.
A couple of months ago, I was in ASDA and one day all of a sudden, this song came on the radio and I was like "Hey That's Steve Winwood" then I started singing along.
"Higher Love" was Steve Winwood's first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, on August 30, 1986. It spent a week at #1. His biggest hit is "Roll With It," which reached #1 on July 30, 1988 and spent four weeks at #1. Those are his two #1 hits. In all, he had 14 solo hits on the Hot 100 from 1981-1990, including 10 Top 40 hits, six Top 10 hits, and the two aforementioned #1 hits. Here are his solo hits in chronological order:
"While You See A Chance" (#7 in 1981)
"Higher Love" (#1 in 1986)
"Freedom Overspill" (#20 in 1986)
"The Finer Things" (#8 in 1987)
"Back In The High Life Again" (#13 in 1987)
"Valerie" (#9 in 1987)
"Roll With It" (#1 in 1988)
"Don't You Know What The Night Can Do?" (#6 in 1988)
"Holding On" (#11 in 1989)
"One And Only Man" (#18 in 1990)
I am a big fan of most of Steve Winwood's solo work, but "Higher Love" has always been my favorite of his. It has a big sound, a memorable chorus, an elaborate song structure, and sublime vocal assistance from Chaka Khan.
Also worth noting is that "Valerie" was originally recorded in 1982, and that version peaked at #70. The 1987 version that peaked at #9 is a re-recording, and, in my opinion, is the superior version, though I do like the original version OK as well.
Produced by Nile Rodgers!
His funky fingerprints are ALL OVER this!
I freaking love this sound from the late 80s and early 90s with the horns. It's very Go West. If you haven't listened to any Go West I recommend it, you'll recognize some songs.
This was my song with my husband when we were dating and then engaged. Great song, wonderful memories! ❤️
Asia and BJ give a listen to Traffic Low Spark Of High Heeled Boy Steve Winwood is the lead singer of the band great song you guy's will Love it thanks
Best song ever. Herbal refreshment optional.
It's an awesome song, but it's like 20 minutes long. That's a tough sell for a reaction channel. They'll take one look at the runtime and pass on it. Which is a shame, cuz it's great, but still...
Steve Winwood had a lot of great hits, but this is one of my favorites, which is due to all the percussion instruments, the very catchy chorus and....Chaka Khan on back-up vocals!
I love Chaka Khan. And Steve Windwood is amazing. Such a great duo.
Valerie by Steve Winwood is incredible!
I remember when this song came out. Was a great time to be in my 20s during the 80s!!! Awesome music and awesome times!!!
This was and continues to be one of my jams!!
Valerie is also good!
This song hella takes me back to my childhood. 90's. My auntys would babysit all of us cousins and we would jam out to this on the way to the drive in theaters. All of us packed in the station wagon blasting this song and many other classics... damn... life as a simple, ghetto kid. Much love and thanks for the nostalgia!!! Your Tongan friend from Utah. 💯💯💯
🤘🤘 perfect collaboration, get goosebumps everytime Chaka Khan comes in with braing me a higher love.
She sure did!!!
Great reaction y'all, especially when y'all figured out "I know this!"
Unmistakable voice of Stevie
He was great in concert!
Steve has this amazing gift from God's grace and he can have anyone to sing with him on this song his choice was Chaka Khan whose vocals are unmistakable she is just a powerful little lady who just delivers the best every time.
Such a great pick!!
Loved this song. They played it so much on the radio.
this record is amazing from start to finish.."take it as it comes" "back in the high life" "the finer things" "split decision"
Can't go wrong with Steve Winwood. You should check out a song called Dear Mr Fantasy by a band he was in called Traffic.
Mr. Fantasy is a great choice.
Stevie Winwood is still performing 2023. Getting better every year.
Steve on lead and Chaka on backup. Heaven!
Of I am remembering correctly. Chaka Khan is actually in the music video for this song. So, I have known probably since the 80s that she was doing the backup vocals. She doesn't come in until near the end of the video when she has more of a solo part of her own, though. It was also the theme of the movie Big Business, a really good comedy.
This was a number 1 hit for him. "Valerie" is one of my favorites. "Roll With It" was another jam, with no peanut butter haha.
Steve Winwood, Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Genesis, Boston, George Harrison, and ZZ Top all had wonderful success in the mid-80s. In addition to all of the new wave acts and proto-rap, these guys brought their magic back into the 80s and helped define the soundtrack of the decade.
Should have heard his voice when he was 15 years old!! And yes I saw his concerts with the Spencer Davis Group !!! Kudos to you !!!)🥰😍🤩
Another great live performer...Steve Winwood is one of the "geniuses" in rock and roll....LEGENDARY
Check Stevie Winwood at 15. It's insane.
YAY!!!! ✨️🎀✨️🎀✨️🎀✨️🎀✨️

Merry Christmas you guys!!
You too!!

There is some songs that instantly bring you the 80's vibe. This one is one of them 👌
I remember this was a massive hit in the summer of 1986. We drove from Boston to Cape Cod and we LOVED the song so much that each time the song ended on one station, we'd turn the dial and sure enough another station would just start the song. It seriously was the only song we sang on our drive over, LOL. Steve Winwood sounded so great with Chaka Khan. Steve Winwood is so much better than Michael Bolton. Bolton just screams.
My grade six teacher would play this album on repeat... mixed with George Michaels....good times..
This very spiritual song makes a case for why higher love, which can be interpreted as God, must exist. The first line sets the stage:
Think about it, there must be higher love
One of the key arguments is found in the first verse:
Without it, life is a wasted time
Winwood played many of the instruments on Back In The High Life and wrote the music for the songs, but for this and many other songs on the album, Will Jennings wrote the lyrics.
"I was born in East Texas and my mother and father's families were from Arkansas and the generations before were from the Deep South. My father's father was a Methodist preacher, a circuit rider, in Arkansas. My earliest memories are of the music in church and of my aunts and uncles singing the beautiful old hymns. 'Higher Love' is a generation past that, when things were not so much taken for granted, so that one has to plea, 'Bring me a higher love,' and the lines are all trying to explain why there must be higher love. A modern hymn, you might call it."
This was Winwood's first US #1 single, either as a solo artist or with a group. He was 38 when it topped the chart on August 30, 1986, but he had already been making music for more than two decades. As a teenager, his crystalline voice and songwriting talents led the Spencer Davis Group to two hit singles in 1967: "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm A Man."

I thought so too, but sadly most people will not make the connection.
Winwood is a legend 🤘🤘
Yall need to check out Traffic the band Steve Winwood was in. One of there best songs is Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. I think yall will enjoy !!
Steve Winwood played in a band called " Blind Faith " with Eric Clapton back in the early days . Clapton called him " Little Stevie ". Clapton also said he sounded like a young Ray Charles . He was also in a band called " The Spencer David Group " & " Traffic ". He toured with Clapton a few years back and put on a great show at Madison Square Garden which is an album that's a must listen. And if you can catch videos from that show it's a must watch !! 🤙🎸

It's Great seeing your reaction as "bring me a higher love" comes around the first time in the song. It's probably the way many of us first reacted to it too.
Back In The High Life, The Finer Things, Valerie and Roll With It all great Steve Winwood songs.
Check out their reaction to Roll With It from a few weeks ago. I requested it, and they loved it so much that I requested this one too. 👊
This was the #1 song the week of my 12th birthday and it reminds me of starting junior high. (That was so long ago. Haha.)
This album came out in the mid 80s , I wanna say 85? I saw Steve Winwood in concert at the Pier in NYC when he toured for this album. He hadn’t toured in a long time and this was his big comebacks. They had great summer concerts there at the Pier.
@@dickcnormis1444 I turned 12 on 8/26/86
@@SRGots even at a young age you knew what good music was.
I thought y’all had already heard this. Aw I can’t WAIT to see your reaction!! This is amAZing!!
This one is one of the best 80s songs I've ever heard. Very upbeat, positive and feel good.
You should definitely definitely do ‘Keep on Running’ by Steve Winwood (It’s immense!). Also Whitney Houston has done an incredible version of Higher Love. Love you guys Asia and BJ 😊 you’re great 👍
Fun. Great beat. Awesome lyrics.
Written by Steve Winwood and Will Jennings. 4 years later, WJ wrote Tears in Heaven with Eric Clapton.
All stars. Chaka Khan on backing vocals.. Nile Rodgers on rhythm guitar 🎸. Eddie Martinez on lead guitar 🎸. He played lead guitar in Simply Irresistible , written by and sung by the late Robert Palmer, RIP 😢
Suggested next song 🎵 Steve Winwood sings Back in the High Life Again.
I remember when this came out in the 80's (my young years) and the first time hearing it, I fell in love with it; and you can't NOT move to it. Great lyrics, great music, great beat!
One of the greatest exports of the UK music scene, genius
UK’s own Steve Winwood
Yeah, taking me back to simpler times. This guy had a natural soulful grove. Once again try this song live.
He doing easy listening music for the older generation
This beat always makes me wanna move!!!!💃🔥💃🔥 love it!! 💞🥰

Great album. Loved the songs on that CD. Brings back some great memories
Such a feel good song on so many levels.
That is THEE Great Chaka Khan backing up Steve Winwood on vocals. Fun fact. 😉…sorry, I posted before the end of your video and saw where you mentioned Chaka Khan…
No worries!
One of the all time greats. Was in the Spencer Davis Group,Traffic,Blind Faith and solo..and I was lucky enough to see this tour. Also saw him in Traffic opening for the Grateful Dead.
Winwood has a very radio hit making voice that goes way back to the mid sixties when he sang, "Gimme Some Lovin' with the Spencer Davies Group. And then a few years later on "Dear Mr. Fantasy" with Traffic, and he played organ on Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland" album. He's been around for a good while.
"While You See A Chance" is my very favorite Steve Winwood song. "Back In The High Life Again" and "Valerie" were also big hits. All worth checking out.
“Higher Love” and the album that this came from “Back in the High Life “both went to #1 in 1986. Saw him that same year in Madison Square Garden in New York. Had good floor seats and enjoyed it thoroughly. Did many songs from his entire career
It’s been a long time since I heard this song. Thanks for rekindling some memories
I was 8 years old when this song was on MTV in 1986. I loved the song so much, I was tape-recording the music video from a hand-held cassette recorder from the TV speaker. I never did that with any other song from that time period. Funny thing was I thought it was Tina Turner in the video.
Oh yeah! Literally 3 days ago, I was singing the praise of Chaka Kahn! Great voice, back with Rufus, to her solo career. Steve Winwood is a legend as well, going back to the 60's as a 17 year old phenom with Buffalo Springfield. Jimi Hendrix's protégé. Then Blind Faith with Eric Clapton. Dude's the man.
If you haven't already, you should check out Gimme some loving by the Spencer Davis Group. That's Steve singing and playing keyboard when he was a teenager back in the 60s.
