Winwood in his early 20's bought a 300 acre historic manor in the English country side. He has a recording studio there too. I would imagine that this song was filmed at that very place.

What a wonderful version of this magnificent song. Yep, he's still got it. He could probably sing that song in his sleep at this point in his life but you could still see him pouring his heart and soul into every note.
Wow - usually there is a noticeable change to singers voices as they age - typically losing the full range they had when younger, and often getting deeper - but Steve really sounds almost exactly the same as when he sang this about 50 years ago. Amazing.
If this was 8 yrs ago, the man was 64. How is his voice still exactly the same as ever. I have loved this man for so long, he is just extraordinary. Thanks for giving him the love he deserves Jamel.
You will find that the true musicians and Rockers keep singing until they die. It's in their soul, their being and they want to keep sharing it to the world. They love what they are doing with every fiber in their being, straight from the heart. That's what makes a great singer! Steve Winwood is one of those singers.
Notice that only one mic picking up both guitar and voice and his voice projected over the guitar even when he hummed. True balance of the two but, that voice is just so powerful.
You’re so right about his voice. It was a freak of nature when he was 16, but now it fits. So many rock singers ruined their voices Steve is like so many of the earlier masters, Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Nat King Cole who kept singing beautifully into old age. Thanks for this, brother.
Beautiful rendition. Steve Winwood still sounded amazing in this performance. Can’t possibly express how much I loved this. Great choice and reaction. 💙✌️

This has been living in my heart all these years, and I’m grateful to have found you here, loving this gem as much as we all do. Thank you for sharing it here.
Mr. Steve is now 72 years old, he has NOT lost anything since he started out at 15 years old, this song was originaly done in the Band, Blind Faith with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker, rock on, Cousin Figel
Sigh...sigh...Such sweet melancholy. Always willing to travel through a Steve Windwood song landscape. This one I never tire of visiting from my days of yore to this very moment. A truly ageless gift for the soul!
I've seen Steve Winwood many times. This song is mesmerizing. At the end, the audience claps and claps and claps. Steve always looks a little shy about the love for this song. As you said, for whatever reason this song is so relaxing and one is utterly lost for those few minutes. It feels as if you'll be lost forever.
My cousin loved Steve Winwood since Traffic. He was on the east coast and I'm on the west. He texted me UA-cam links every day of great songs (many Winwood), and I would send some back. Six months ago, his texts stopped. I will never hear another Winwood song without thinking of my cousin, Steve Hall 1957-2010.
You should check Traffic Live At Santa Monica 1972. A lot of people are used to seeing Steve Winwood behind a keyboard, and don't realize that he is a great guitar player. That concert is a testament to that.
That's Steve on his farm in Oxfordshire, where he says he's semi-retired from music. Although originally from Birmingham in the English Midlands, Winwood went south to the area known as the Thames Valley. He originally had a cottage where Traffic went to rehearse for their first album, which set a trend for bands "getting it together in the country". It wasn't as idyllic and isolated as they had pictured because the music press found out and descended on the rural village, much to the annoyance of the residents. The idea of a country retreat is the basis of the Traffic song Berkshire Poppies, although the village they went to is no longer in the county of Berkshire but, due to boundary changes, has been in Oxfordshire since 1974.
Could you even think of the possibilities? You walk inti any party, mall, park etc with only your guitar and start playing. The amount of trim you could pull would be downright astounding. No autotune, gadgets or other things, just a man, a guitar and a wonderful voice
I wish you' cover more of the Blind Faith album with Clapton this originally came out on. You still haven't heard the rockier songs on that album with Clapton on electric guitar - "Had To Cry Today" - just when you think the song is over, they go into this double lead guitar played through Leslie speaker ending, "Presence of The Lord" has a surprising switch to a wah wah riff half way through, "Sea Of Joy" starts out similarly to this song, but is electric, and "Do What You Like" is Ginger Baker's chance to play a drum solo in 5/4 time. They only made the one album, so if you like Winwood, it's worth checking out even if you don't react to it.
Had never seen this so thanks to whoever submitted it. A wonderful version. Just Winwood and his guitar. Voice still clear as a bell. Didn't get to watch til today, great way to start my day. Always the best from Jamel!
This is one of my favorite reactions. Your respect and admiration for Steve really made it, for me. Oh, 73 isn't that old. You can't convince me that it is.

Thank you. This was my first time seeing this version and I had the same reaction you did, Jamel. I was thinking he was going to transpose it lower but he sang just as high as he did 50 years ago. Goosebumps.
Actually, now that I hear and am playing along with the original -- he *did* transpose it down a whole step. The video is in C. The original is one step higher at D. I know no one cares but I'm avoiding watching election coverage.
