Yeah the car in the video is a legitimate antique now 90 years old. A PT cruiser! 🤣 BJ you are right it is a hot rod. That was one of the cars that used to be suped up with a faster engine for street or early drag racing.
Car is from their Eliminator album cover. It is a 1933 Ford 'Eliminator' Coupe with ’39 Ford teardrop taillights, and lowered ’34 Ford headlights and a 350 Chevy V8 with a Camaro Z28 cam and a four-barrel carb.
The late bassist ,Dusty Hill , was a solid guy..In 77, they had put out an album and decided to take some time off..Drummer had some drug troubles, as well...So Dusty takes a job at the Dallas/Ft Worth airport . He said he didn't want people to think he was full of himself , and he didn't want to become full of himself .
Actually this song released in the '80's. Car is called Eliminator, custom 1933 Ford Coupe. Car is part of promotional of ZZTop' album, Elimator. I think Billy Gibbons has the car in his car collection.
Texas Blues they call it, ZZ Top has a long history and a lot of great tunes, Legs and Gimme all your Lovin is the three girl trilogy. Rough Boys is a great Bluesy Tune Also Fool For Your Stockings.....I could go on and on. Music of my youth for sure. RIP Dusty.........
Brings back memories of my elementary school P.E.Show. had boys sharply dressed dancing to this song back in the 80s. I danced to footloose and wore a pink striped mini skirt sundress. Good ole days.
Another hidden gem is "Need You Tonight", the one that makes women want to take up pole dancing, ha, ha! Not me of course 😁. And no, it's nothing like the Inxs song with the same name.
Loved this "Little ol' band from Texas" since I first heard Tres Hombres in 1973 when I was 13. R.I.P. Dusty Hill. Suggest you listen to: "Waitin' For The Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago"
Billy gibbons is in top 100 guitarists - he created their unique, huge sound for only a three instrument group. 👍 Tks for the memories and another great reaction 💕
Jimi Hendrix was asked by a reporter who the best guitarist was. Jimi told the reporter that he didn't know but that he (the reporter) should ask Billy Gibbons.
An excellent band from the beginning. Saw them in Melbourne Florida a couple of years ago on the 50th Anniversary tour. They were still amazing after all these years. Rest in Peace Dusty Hill, the bass player.
The iconic 30's Ford eliminated coupe. This car showed up after the album Eliminator was released. This is their foray into the begin ingredient of the 80's sound. Try Waitin for the Bus/Jesus justeft chi ago.
The late Dusty played keyboards in The Eliminator album. This inspired the late Eddie to play keyboards on an album. Eddie did in the album 1984! RIP Dusty Hill, Eddie van Halen 🎹🎸
Eddie started playing keyboards on VH albums in 1980. "And The Cradle Will Rock" is mostly electric piano, not guitar. Also, Dusty did keyboard around the same time on the Deguello record.
Everyone seems to think it is southern rock but it is Texas Rock, and to put the kicker on it, all that jam comes from just three guys, lead guitar, bass guitar and drummer, That's it no back up , no extra, Yes Dusty the bass player did just pass at 71 this year.. Funny note, the only one without a beard is the drummer and guess what his last name is,,,,,, Beard. And to explain southern rock it was born from a mix of Blues, rock, and soul,, the song Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd rolls in the Blues. Oh could I turn you onto some great Rock n Roll,, I'm 64, I was there when it started
Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty did a eulogy at Dusty's memorial service, upon Dusty's request. Phil lightly talks about it on his podcast on his UA-cam channel a couple of times. This song was also used as the intro for the Duck Dynasty show.
This is probably my favorite song of all time. Certainly my favorite video of all time. Definitely my favorite band of all time. You guys are my favorite reaction of the 4 or 5 I’ve seen. Y’all are fun and seem authentic and genuine. The videos from 83. The car is from 33. He bought the 33 Ford coupe in the late 70s and worked on it until it was ready in time for the album and 83. Billy Gibbons is not only the singer of the song the songwriter, the guitar player he also builds custom hot rods . is a ecentric genius.
You should really check out some of their older stuff, like; I'm Bad I'm Nationwide, Tush, and Pearl Necklace, to name a few. For something newer try I Gotsta Get Paid. Good one guys!
Billiy Gibbons(lead guitar and vocals). That is his personal hot rod. He is a car guy also. He has Cadzzilla is his also. He had a replica of the yellow Ford from the movie "American Graffiti "
Saw them for the first of 8 or 9 times in 1973, they lit up any venue they played in and always put on a great show. The first time was a shocker though, never heard such intense, heavy, Texas style blues and rock like that before. Amazingly huge sound out of 3 guys.Do Waiting For the Bus/Jesus just Left Chicago, they meld into each other. RIP Dusty Hill. Rock On! 🎸
I was 14 when this came out. I loved the hell out of that album, Eliminator. I had the cassette. The PT Cruiser was designed to pay homage to hotrods from the 1930s.
ZZ has been my absolute favorite band since the late 80s. The first time I saw them was the Eliminator tour January 9th 1984. I still have the key chain, my brother stole the shirt. ZZ top is the TOP in my book!
Nope, not Southern Rock. Blues based rock and roll. Southern Rock is Lynyrd Skynyrd and more country blues based guitar licks. I love Southern Rock but this is much more blues based than country.
BJ. You are the luckiest man in the world to have that beautiful woman by your side. Her infectious laughter and reactions to the music you to are listening to is why I keep coming back. She is a pure joy to watch, especially when she is frazzled. ZZ TOP that little ol' band from Texas has been laying it down for over 5o years. They lost bassist Dusty Hill this summer and it is a particularly hard loss since the three of them have given us some much all these years. You need to listen to their big hit from 1984, LEGS. WAITING ON THE BUS / JESUS LEFT CHICAGO and JUST GOT PAID are a few songs that would pay tribute to this fantastic power trio. R.I.P. Dusty Hill.
"The Top." When MTV and music videos really meant something. The guys started with a blues influence that you can hear in their music, with the chord progressions. The beards came later as a trademark.
the car is a '33 ford coupe, the pt cruiser was actually modeled after it and other rides from the 30's. try out "I'm Bad I'm Nationwide", "Waitin' for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago", "cheap Sunglasses", "Tush", "La Grange" +++ fun fact - Billy Gibson (guitar) played with Hendrix back in the late 60's

You'll get the hang of it one of these days. Blues based rock and roll has many excellent guitar solos attached to almost every song. I honestly don't know how you two can be so innocent when it comes to Classic Rock! You couldn't have grown up under a rock, so how is it that you two have never even listened to ZZ Top??? This album is 40 years old and I bought back when I was 22 or so. Now I'm 63 but great rock and roll is simply timeless. It is an absolute _staple_ on the Classic Rock stations! Anyway, I'm glad that you like it and I think your tastes in music are going to move back about 30 or 40 years, at least, over the next few years as you hear more of it. 🎸🎸🎸
It ain't nuthin' but that "Lil' Ole Band From Texas"! The car is a 1933 Ford Coupe and the Sharp Dressed Man video hit MTV in 1983, the same year their album "Eliminator" hit shelves. The album had four songs that spun off popular videos for the band in Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin', Legs, & TV Dinners.
ZZTop are from Houston and they opened a recording studio here which opened up many opportunities for up and coming Houston rappers, lil Keke recorded 25 lighters in their studio and then 20 years later ZZTop covered it with Gotsta get paid, to pay homage. RIP Dusty Hill
ZZ Top became famous in 68, this song was recorded in the 80s...they're beat songs are between 68 and early 80s...you gotta react to the following: Just Got Paid La Grange Ten Foot Pole Heaven, Hell or Huston I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide Cheap Sunglasses Manic McMechanic Pearl Necklace Tube Snake Boogie

The car in the video was 32 or 33 Ford 2 door coup. I think the PT Cruiser wasn't produced until late 90's or early 2000's
Nope, that's a 1933 Ford Coup and the Iconic Video Car for most of ZZ Tops Music Videos. The PT Cruizer didn't come out until the early 2000s but it tried to mimic the look from this car's era. The Lucky Guy always that gets the Key to the Car from the Band after taking a wild ride with the 3 girls in the Coup always comes back more experienced and ready for more love😉Thanks, Y'all for another fantastic Video from your DFW friend and listener🤠
If you guys get a chance there's a pic of all three guys from this band playing at high school prom in Baytown, it was apparently their first big gig....how far they have come. Cool song
The car is a 33 Ford Coup and was used on their Eliminator tour.... they actually drove it out on stage and those same girls would get out of the car like the videos, awesome show. As for the beards, its their signature and the inside joke as to why the drummer don't have one...well his last name is Beard, Frank Beard. They put on one hell of a show live. R.I.P. Dusty 🤘😔🤘🙏✌🤟
A couple of years back, Gillette offered Billy n Dusty a $million apiece to shave their beards. They turned it down, saying that what was underneath wasn't pretty 😂 👍👏👏👏
ZZ Top frontman Billy F. Gibbons had this chopped 1933 Ford built in the early 1980s -- the car would later be known as the Eliminator. The 1933 Ford with an SBC 350 V8 built by So-Cal Speed Shop built with a single four-barrel carburetor. Its style was inspired by hero car from the 1974 movie The California Kid, and Gibbons used Pete Chapouris, the man behind The California Kid Ford, to help conceive the car on paper. Eliminator has a Ford 9-inch rear-end and 4-bar front suspension on a custom built chassis by Buffalo Motor Cars. Eliminator features a custom 3-piece hood, 1934 Ford headlights, teardrop tail lights from a 1939 Ford, and a 3-inch chop off the top and the custom ZZ Top graphics.
That guy is a doorman. They were stationed at the door of high end apartment buildings. In addition to keep people out of the building, who were up to no good, they greeted the residents & opened the car doors for them. They still have them in someplaces, such as NYC, but they are rapidly being replaced by electronic locks & surveillance.
Getting a 33 Ford Coupe confused with a PT Cruiser hurt my heart just a little bit. I'm the proud owner of a 34 Ford Pickup. Fantastic vehicle. I also have the ZZ Top keychain that I picked up when I saw them in 97 or 98 when they were touring with Leonard Skynyrd. I'm still working on the beard. Rest in peace Dusty. You will be missed.
These guys have been rocking for over 50 years and the bass player Dusty Hill just passed about a month ago RIP Dusty
RIP Dusty \m/
@@threenil_818 RIP 🙏
Musical gnomes🤣😂
He is a doorman/ valet. Hard to believe only 3 guys playing. That is a 33 Ford Coupe, Eliminator Coupe. PT Cruiser 🤣🤣 I would suggest La Grange
PT Cruiser was only around from 2001 - 2010 so yes the video predates the PT Cruiser. The better looking car was the Plymouth Prowler.
@@golfr-kg9ss Agreed! Loved that Plymouth Prowler teardrop-shaped body!
Yes sir '33 ford vicky
The PT Cruiser was designed to look like the 1930s (retro), so that's the reason for the confusion on the part of BJ and Asia.
Yeah the car in the video is a legitimate antique now 90 years old. A PT cruiser! 🤣 BJ you are right it is a hot rod. That was one of the cars that used to be suped up with a faster engine for street or early drag racing.
The car is the custom ZZ Top car " The Eliminator " based on a 1933 Ford Coupe.

I love that Asia is smiling the whole video.
And the ironic thing is, the drummer that doesn't have a beard, has the name Frank Beard.

you were right BJ about ZZ Top - 1980's Texas rock ❤
Getting a 33 Ford Coupe confused with a PT Cruiser hurt my heart just a little bit. I'm the proud owner of a 34 Ford Pickup. Fantastic vehicle. I also have the ZZ Top keychain that I picked up when I saw them in 97 or 98 when they were touring with Leonard Skynyrd. I'm still working on the beard.
Rest in peace Dusty. You will be missed.
