All great songs...but my personal favorite is "While You See A Chance". Also good from the Roll With It album: "Holding On" and "Don't You Know What the Night Can Do".
The woman backing up Steve is Chaka Khan. Take the dive into her early work from the 1970's like "Tell Me Something Good" (with Rufus) and "I'm Every Woman" Yeah, she did it before Whitney; it was her first solo hit without Rufus. Then her 1980's songs like "I Feel for You" and "Ain't Nobody" (also with Rufus). "I Feel for You" may help you understand why people sing her name. "Chaka Khan Chaka Khan" I think it might be only on the official music video and that's the one you should listen to. It's a cover of a Prince song but that "Chaka Khan" opening is why I think of it as her song.
Thats Chaka Kahn! She was with a group called Rufus. Then later she went out on her own. She's a great candidate for F.F.! You might like "Tell me Somethin' Good"
You can’t go wrong with ANY Steve Winwood. His soulful voice is so smooth. He started with the Spencer Davis Group and then Traffic back in the 60s.Listen to Time is Running Out next.
Steve Winwood is a legend - he started playing/performing when he was only 14. You must take a deep dive into his group Traffic (John Barlycorn, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys) and many of his other hits including a song called Valerie (not the Amy Winehouse song), When You See A chance, The Finer Things, and from the Spencer Davis Group Gimme some Lovin. Super, super talented - so glad you've discovered him! And Chaka Kahn is a legend!! Definitely do her on Female Friday.
I love Steve and the amazing Chaka Khan! I can’t believe you guy don’t know Chaka! You obviously don’t know Tina Turner either if you thought that was her! These are two phenomenal female icons of music! Mind blown!!😮😮
Yeah, Winwood is a bonafide legend. He hit it big with Spencer Davis Group’s Gimme Some Lovin’ when he was only 18. He played with Clapton in Blind Faith (Can’t Find My Way Home). He jams with Hendrix on Voodoo Chile. He hit it big again with Traffic (Dear Mr. Fantasy and Low Spark of High-heeled Boys), then again with his solo career!
you need to go back to the 1960s with this guy, one of the most amazing voices of classic rock. He was 15 years old when his band Spencer Davis Group had hits like Gimme Some Lovin, he was with the band Blind Faith with ERic Clapton, then with the band Traffic. so much talent
Chaka Khan is amazing! My favorite is "I Feel For You". Also you can't miss "I;m Every Woman" or "Aint Nobody" She is a powerhouse of personality and pure natural talent. You maybe see one or two like her in a generation.

Not only a brilliant singer and musician, he is one of the greatest songwriters. There is a great live version of "can't find my way home" where he is just sitting in front of the fire on his farm. That's as pure as it gets!
The woman is Chaka Khan. You have to check out her song "I Feel For You". Produced by Prince in 1984 and the first R&B song to feature a rapper. Also her song Ain't Nobody which I'm sure you would know without even knowing that you know it. The rhythm guitar of Higher Love was performed by Nile Rogers, who you might know from the 70s band Chic (check out their songs "Good Times" and "Le Freak"), and the Daft Punk song Get Lucky.
3 роки тому+2
It's "Le Freak", not "Freak Out" (that's just a prominent bit of the chorus, but said chorus also contains "le freak, c'est chic")
Yes!!!!! One of my faves of all time. You have to do "Roll With It" ... great piano and horns! Winwood is a musical prodigy and amazing on the piano. "Gimme Some Lovin" from his band Spencer Davis Group was huge, and he was just a teen.

You guys have just been introduced to the one of the GREAT female voices of all-time, Chaka Khan! and on guitar one of the legends of Chic, Niles Rogers.
I remember this was a massive hit in the summer of 1986. We drove from Boston to Cape Cod and we LOVED the song so much that each time the song ended on one station, we'd turn the dial and sure enough another station would just start the song. It seriously was the only song we sang on our drive over, LOL. Steve Winwood sounded so great with Chaka Khan.
I remember this song well. I had just met my new boyfriend in June or July of 1986. We didn't last long maybe 7 months before he cheated on me. So I dumped him. I met my now husband in August of 87 and have been married 35 years. So it worked out well.
Have you done other Winwood songs? From this era, I love love love "While You See A Chance", "Back in the High Life" and "The Finer Things" -- and from a bit earlier in his career, "Arc of a Diver" is amazing. The man is a rock legend. And speaking of legends, that's Chaka Khan singing backing vocals. I love it when she gets into it and it comes out "Brang me a higher love", lol. Chaka and her band Rufus do an amazing and fun tune called "Tell Me Something Good" - and then a later hit song for her was "Ain't Nobody". ❤️
Steve actually performed with his Father and older brother Muff at 8 yrs old. When they played in bars and taverns, they would turn the piano towards the crowd so Steve was hidden from the crowd. He joined The Spencer Davis group at age 14, he's 73 now. In the tribute to George Harrison "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" where Prince showed his tremendous guitar skills, Steve was in the back, the white dude on piano. 🤔🤗😎
Steve is legendary, wrote his first hits at age 15, was a backup player for Ray Charles when he toured England as a teen, had hits in the 60s, 70s, 80s...had his own band Traffic, was in a and with Eric Clapton called Blind Faith, and what you were watching here was his solo career, Spencer Davis Group as a teenager...
As Winwood reminisced, "My earliest memories are of the music in church and of my aunts and uncles singing the beautiful old hymns. 'Higher Love' is a generation past that, when things were not so much taken for granted, so that one has to plea, 'Bring me a higher love,' and the lines are all trying to explain why there must be higher love. A modern hymn, you might call it." Armed with spirituality, the resulting track became his breakthrough solo hit, flying high to No. 1 on August 29, 1986. The tune went on to receive two Grammys in 1987 for Record of the Year (against Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" and Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love") and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Steve is an iconic artist with many hits and with his collaborations with Clapton,,Traffic And others! Back In The Highlige,Can’t Find My Way Home,While You See a Chance,And Arc of a Diver Are a few of Steve’s legendary incredible tunes!
If you want to dive into Chaka Khan who is the amazing voice complimenting Steve’s on this track, you could go with what was her biggest hit chart wise which was “I Feel For You” ( written by Prince). But, her music as part of Rufus is just as good and I would recommend a couple of strong R&B tracks which I know Amber will appreciate, “Ain’t Nobody” (which is my personal favorite), “Do You Love What You Feel” and her anthemic “I’m Every Woman”, and NO, that is not a Whitney song, Chaka recorded it first in 1978 for her debut solo album and it was her first solo hit. Whitney recorded a cover version in 1992 and while she did an amazing job, sorry, no one can match the original Chaka version, not even Whitney.
Steve Winwood was the lead singer for "The Spencer Davis Group" when he was 15! FIFTEEN YEARS OLD! you've got to check out their biggest hit "Gimme Some Lovin'" and when you hear his voice you will think "There is NO WAY that singer is FIFTEEN YEARS OLD!
gotta do some Chaka Khan reaction if you haven't yet. She was close to my old HS mate Prince, and performed at his memorial, which i was blessed to see. Her cover of his "I fell for you" help re-energize her career. But maybe start with "Ain't Nobody" or "Tell Me Something Good" if you really want a sense of what pure power Khan can bring to a song
@@WineSippingCowboy I think all of them were around, but they were younger than I was, so I didn't pay much attention at the time, wrapped up in my own teenage angst, as i was :)
Okay, you two, you have got me. I went back to your beginning to see what you were listening to before I put my requests in, just planning to sample the reactions of a few that caught my eye. After about 8 hours now, i have only covered about two months because I keep seeing songs that I have not heard in years. You have reminded me of so many moments in my life that are precious to me. Love, love, love your channel.
The great and beautiful Chaka Khan is the one with him. Love that lady. Though this is an 80s song, Steve Winwood is older school than that, back to the 60s. He was in the bands Traffic, Blind Faith with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker (check out their song "Can't Find My Way Home" some time) and the Spencer Davis Group, before his solo career in the '80s..
If you saw Avengers - Endgame, you've definitely heard Steve Winwood in his group Traffic. In the opening scenes with Tony Stark stranded in space, the song playing in the back is Traffic's song "Dear Mr Fantasy". He's a talent for the ages with him in everything he's touched. There's a UA-cam video from about 9 years ago of him playing on an acoustic version of a song he did back in the 60s with the Spencer Davis Group (EDIT: correcting the group he did this song with .... it's Blind Faith) titled "Can't Find My Way Home". What a voice!
You are at the edge of another rabbit hole. Steve's been around for quite a while. Check out "Can't Find My Way Home" from his time in Blind Faith with Clapton, Baker and Grech. One of my favorites. He also had some great songs with Traffic.
I hope you both continue down the path of Steve Winwood, because you will not be disappointed. Arguably one of the greatest singers and musicians of the rock era, he's been a star since his teens. The album Higher Love is from, Back in the High Life is a masterpiece - eight exceptional songs with this being his biggest hit. By the way, that's Chaka Khan on backing vocals and the great Nile Rodgers on guitar. Great reaction!
The most amazing thing about this song and this whole album is that Winwood not only wrote and sang on all the songs but he also played ALL the instruments on ALL the songs.... and recorded it in his home built studio... on a farm.
It was the Arc of a Diver album that he played all the instruments on not this one. Nile Rodgers (from Chic) played guitar on this song and Joe Walsh plays guitar on two other songs on this album, so he didn't do everything himself on this one.
Im surprised you guys didnt recognize, The One, The Only Chaka Khan.... Steve Winwood is a GENIUS! We're so lucky to have grown up with great artists from the 70's and 80's ! 90's too!😊
I love that fact that at 6:43, you thought it was a horn, but it was actually Chaka's voice. That is probably the biggest compliment you can pay her, if you know her background and how she wants to use her voice. Just so you know, I take nothing from Steve Winwood. But the entire "breakdown" when they amp it up as you say, that entire background vocal three-part harmony of the chorus is all Chaka. Steve is only doing his adlibs (which are great), but the second half of the song, vocally, is Chaka, her background and her adlibs along with Steve.
Steve Winwood's discography is as long as your arm. He was part of notable groups like Traffic, Blind Faith, and The Spencer Davis Group. He became a household name in the 80s with hits like "Higher Love", "Valerie", "Back in the High Life", "The Finer Things", and perhaps his most famous song, "Roll With It".
Chaka Kahn is no back up singer! Try her song "Ain't Nobody" for sure! And please check out Steve Winwood's "Roll With It" as others recommended. The video for that song is very creative - cool perspective. Thanks for bringing so much joy!
There’s a reason why this went straight to number one. Such an excellent song with Steve Winwood’s impeccable vocals plus Chaka Khan! You may enjoy listening to Whitney Houston’s cover version released after she passed. And while you’re at it, you must listen to Chaka’s I’m Every Women, and then listen to Whitney’s cover that includes Chaka!
"I can light the night up with my soul on fire, I can make the Sun shine with pure desire"! For my money one of the all time best lines in rock history! Great reaction guys! Highly recommend Roll with it! It has your horns, your keyboards, and that passionate "Blue eyed soul you all love. Keep digging, we'll keep watching!
Can’t Find My Way Home from his band Blind Faith (with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker) is one of my favorite songs of his. It’s been covered many times by many people. It is such a well written and composed song. It’s so beautiful.
This song is SUMMER. Driving, windows down, radio blasting.... Oh, and - "Chaka Khan, let me rock you, let me rock you, Chaka Khan, let me rock you 'cuz I feel for you" *was* that summer. Good times.
“I Feel For You” has Stevie Wonder on the harmonica and was written by Prince. It has some 80s Rap and vinyl scratching. Ain’t Nobody is her signature song. It was on the “Breakin” movie soundtrack. She released “I’m Every Woman” before Whitney Houston.
“While You See a Chance” and “Arc of a Diver” are great songs from Winwood’s 1980 album Arc of a Diver. My favorites when he was with Traffic are “Low Spark of High Heeled Boys” and “Rock and Roll Stew” from the 1971 album Low Spark of High Heeled Boys (whole album is good). “Keep on Running” (1965) is a great one by the Spencer Davis Group.
Roll With It is another great one as well as his earlier music with Traffic and Blind Faith. Low Spark of High Heeled Boys and Can't Find My Way Home are fabulous
Chaka Khan is the backup vocalist on this song. For your next Female Friday I suggest you play "TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD" by the funk band RUFUS. Chaka Khan was their lead singer. Such a good song. You and everyone else will love it!
Steve Winwood is my favorite male artist of all time. My favorite song by him is "Can't Find My Way Back Home ". He has a large catalog of music, stretching back to the '60's, where he began singing with The Spencer Davis Group at the age of 15 years old. Such a brilliant talent. I can't say enough great things about him.
and TRAFFIC and then some quick thing with Eric Clapton and the bass player Jack Bruce from Cream called BLIND FAITH ..It lasted about 15 minuets lol but it was good
Jay - the "horns" you heard around the 6:45 mark aren't horns, it's Chaka Khan doin' what Chaka Khan do. She was actually one of the contestants on a recent season of The Masked Singer, and was still amazing.
Now that you've found Steve Winwood, check him out when he was a teenager in the Spencer Davis Group. "Had To Cry Today" is a good one to start with, after that, find him singing with Traffic, "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" or "Light Up Or Leave Me Alone." You will not regret any of those selections! 😃
You'll love his "The Finer Things", "While You See A Chance" and many more. Great voice, keys and guitar from this man!!! Before going solo he was in The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith!
Chaka Khan, a legend in her own right, is singing with him. She was the lead singer of the R&B/Funk band Rufus, and has an amazing solo career. A couple suggestions from her "I'm Every Woman", "Papillion Hot Butterfly" and with Rufus "You got the Love" and "Everlasting Love"
Steve Winwood is awesome & has been awesome for many, many years. He was practically a baby when he started in the rock scene in the mid to late 1960s. Unbelievable voice.
Winwood has been performing at a very high level since he was a teenager in the 60s. This song came out in '86 and it along the album"Back In The High Life" were monsters. Higher love won at least 2 Grammys.
Steve! One of the truly enduring rock legends, member of The Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic, and his own bands after those. Always soulful! And he plays piano, organ, and guitar...and you nailed it - R&B! That is Chaka Khan - Tina had big hair like that at times but Chaka has one of those bionic voices with an extra gear.
❤❤❤ you guys are killing it today! I was starting to worry. Can't beat Steve Winwood, with the infamous Chaka Khan on backup vocals. If you want to dive deeper, he was also in Traffic & he was in the Spencer Davis Group. 🥰😍
Love this! Saw Steve Winwood in concert when this came out in the late 80s. He'd already been around a long time, had a previous hit with "While You See a Chance." And that's Chaka Khan on backup.
That was the legendary Chaka Khan with him. She is a treasure.
Yes she is! When she is 'on', she is tremendous.
I came to say this
My favorite song featuring Chaka Khan is "Tell Me Something Good" with Rufus. Of course it's a song written by Stevie Wonder, so that's a plus.
👍🏻💯
@@SG-js2qn maybe that will be the Female Friday song reaction, fingers crossed
This song was HUGE.
Chaka Khan! She's the backing vocalist! Try "Ain't Nobody" or "I Feel for You" on Female Friday!
And Tell Me Something Good
Tell Me Something Good by Rufus is another great one by Chaka Khan!
Ain’t Nobody able to meet the magic of Chaka Khan’s voice… that’s her best one by far.
Yes!! I feel for you or Sweet thing w/rufus
Guess I’ll add, “Through The Fire”, another one of Chaka’s greatest. 😄
Not only Chaka Khan singing vocals, but Nile Rogers on the Guitar!
Steve Winwood A British Treasure. 👍
He's British??? Damn Elton John,Steve Winwood...all amazing
Check out "Finer Things".. very cool 80s tune by Winwood
How about "Back In The High Life Again" "Valeri" "Gimmie Some Lovin'" "Roll With It" "While You See A Chance"
Roll With It, for sure!
All excellent choices!💕
All great songs...but my personal favorite is "While You See A Chance".
Also good from the Roll With It album: "Holding On" and "Don't You Know What the Night Can Do".

"Valerie" is my favorite Steve Winwood song!
The woman backing up Steve is Chaka Khan. It's a cover of a Prince song but that "Chaka Khan" opening is why I think of it as her song.
Ooo! "I Feel For You" would be a great place to go from here.
Rufus “Once You Get Started” and “Dance Wit Me”- Lawd Chaka put it DOWN
Don't forget "This is My Night" and "Through the Fire". Her last album had a track called "Hello Happiness" that was great.
If you’re going to listen to Chaka Kan with Rufus check out the live version of “Tell me something Good”.
Thats Chaka Kahn! She was with a group called Rufus. Then later she went out on her own. She's a great candidate for F.F.! You might like "Tell me Somethin' Good"

Steve Winwood is a multitalent plays guitar, keybord, piano mm and has a great voice.
This was the high point of MTV, and this was well played. Winwood is definitely an icon. People were always surprised by his voice. Very soulful.

Steve is an iconic artist with many hits and with his collaborations with Clapton,,Traffic And others! Back In The Highlige,Can’t Find My Way Home,While You See a Chance,And Arc of a Diver Are a few of Steve’s legendary incredible tunes!
Valerie also✌😍
How about I’m A Man, Gimme Some Lovin, Dear Mr. Fantasy. He began writing and performing at the age of fifteen.
@@christinadiane4257 Definitely!
It's called "Back In The Highlife"
@@primusfan87 No kidding! Spelling error. Growing up in an era when Miller Highlife I do know that tune’s name oh so well!
Stevie Winwood has been famous since he was 15 years old. He has played with EVERYONE!!!!!
Lucky you!
Did you also see his friends Morris Day, Jimmy James and Terry Lewis?
@@WineSippingCowboy I think all of them were around, but they were younger than I was, so I didn't pay much attention at the time, wrapped up in my own teenage angst, as i was :)
@@johnharkness7114 OK. Morris Day. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis knew Prince since childhood.
While You See A Chance is Winwood's best. Also check out Can't Find My Way Home by Blind Faith with Winwood singing lead vocals.
Yes, "Can't Find my Way Home," please!
@@vickiroman189 Yes, Blind Faith version is best for first time.
Spiritual... I forgot Blind Faith in my other comment
the guitar player is the legendary writer , producer, Nile Rodgers , who is responsible for over 6 million dollars of hit music
That’s exactly what happened to me! Absolutely got caught by the memories, and there’s still so many to go!
Me too, old favourites I had forgotten, in new company😊
Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is a great song. Amber would love the horns and J would love the piano.
Great song.
Can't go wrong with Steve Winwood, no matter which era you choose.
@cjk5115: Nile Rodgers that also produced the track and was very in demand by that time (middle 80's)!
Woman is Chaka Khan ("Tell me something good') You need to hear Steve Winwood when he was 15 singing "Nobody Loves You" Sounds just like Ray Charles
Yup, that's worth seeing. 👍
He was in a band called Traffic in the late 60's and early 70's.
Try Dear Mr. Fantasy from them.
I suggested Medicated Goo- Dear Mr. Fantasy would equally ❤️
They will love Roll With It... the piano and horns
Yesssss
Yes! Steve Winwood is the best! One of my all-time favorite songs!
Yup, agree on that lyric!!
Chaka Khan. You have to hear “I Feel For You”. 80s classic!
That's the beautiful Chaka Khan! Love her song "Ain't Nobody"
Winwood is a musical genius. One of my alltime favorites from the 60s to 80's. My head just flooded with so many memories of listening to his music.
Steve Winwood.... "Higher Love", "Roll With It", "High Life", etc..... there are so many good choices. Also.... of course.... CHAKA KHAN!!!
ROLL WITH IT !! Awesome song by Steve Winwood!
“DONT YOU KNOW WHAT THE NIGHT CAN DO” I’m shocked to not see this song in any comments after scrolling. It really showcases his voice. My fav by Steve
Mine too!
yeah its shockin no one has done a reaction to it
Ditto here
Yes, please do a reaction to “Don’t you know what the night can do”! Nobody has posted a reaction to it and it’s a great song.
But Have you heard this... :) ua-cam.com/video/JbNCjixcXdA/v-deo.html
Can’t Find My Way Home from his band Blind Faith (with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker) is one of my favorite songs of his. It’s been covered many times by many people. It is such a well written and composed song. It’s so beautiful.
My very favorite song of his! Loved Blind Faith!
The acoustic version with him playing his guitar in front of a fire is amazing!
With the wood in the fire popping in perfect time@@Nalublu
Blind Faith was Cream plus Steve Winwood. Jack Bruce was on Bass
This song is SUMMER. Driving, windows down, radio blasting....
Oh, and - "Chaka Khan, let me rock you, let me rock you, Chaka Khan, let me rock you 'cuz I feel for you" *was* that summer. Good times.
You two are so much fun to watch, enjoying for the first time, music that I've loved for decades. Your channel reallyis a joy to watch. Thank you.
Always loved this song. Definitely one of my fave Steve Winwood songs.
That is Chaka Khan . One of the greats. Listen to I Feel for You or Ain’t Nobody or I’m Every Woman by her 😊
“While You See a Chance” and “Arc of a Diver” are great songs from Winwood’s 1980 album Arc of a Diver. My favorites when he was with Traffic are “Low Spark of High Heeled Boys” and “Rock and Roll Stew” from the 1971 album Low Spark of High Heeled Boys (whole album is good). “Keep on Running” (1965) is a great one by the Spencer Davis Group.
One of those songs that just makes you smile no matter what... Love it😊
In 1969, Steve Winwood was a member of the band, Blind Faith with Eric Clapton and went on to form his own band, "Traffic".
Roll With It is another great one as well as his earlier music with Traffic and Blind Faith. Low Spark of High Heeled Boys and Can't Find My Way Home are fabulous
If we are doing the '80s...can I get a thumbs up for Depeche Mode?
Chaka Khan is the backup vocalist on this song. For your next Female Friday I suggest you play "TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD" by the funk band RUFUS. Chaka Khan was their lead singer. Such a good song. You and everyone else will love it!
One of the most talented musicians/songwriters that ever lived!!
Loved Traffic's "Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys." Backintheday ;) Anything Winwood was in was gold!
This Steve Winwood song reminds me of USMC boot camp - when I was working in the chapel the Marine Religious leader always had it playing
Chaka Khan! You should definitely dive down that rabbit hole..."I Feel for You" "I'm Every Woman" "Ain't No Body". Great stuff.
Steve Winwood is a Genius. That whole Arc of the Diver Album rocks!
Now that you've found Steve Winwood, check him out when he was a teenager in the Spencer Davis Group. "Had To Cry Today" is a good one to start with, after that, find him singing with Traffic, "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" or "Light Up Or Leave Me Alone."
You will not regret any of those selections!
My all time FAVORITE 80s song! He sang this with Chaka Khan at the VH1 awards...AMAZING!!
One of the most inspirational songs ever
