It's not about just getting any primal but getting the one you want for that specific item. The best way is to upgrade rare as it is the cheapest compared to reforging legendary. In that sense, all you need is death breaths. If you simply do bounties or regular rifts at at least T16, you pick up at least a 100 death breaths per hour, which is enough for 4 upgrades.
There is a trade off however- as while it may be more expensive, it is also better targeted for that specific piece of gear. I usually make my first build of the season a gold/ craft farmer & stock pile a surplus before rolling into my main builds, for me personally I've found reforging to be faster for the specific peices I want. Because I can do it while im resource farming

I get more primals from regular rifts than speed gr90. You just have to open all chests and kill all valuable enemies. Having a build that also smashes wreckable objects can also give you extra drops. I've got 2 from gr and 9 from regular rifts and this was the same last season as well.
All that matters is to maximize item drop rolls per time unit. Since everything can drop anything. I would say taking your time to open a chest lessens your rolls per time unit on average compared to just killing shit as fast as you can. Though one would have to consider drop rates as well to be really sure. Those depend on chest as well as mob type (normal, elite, champions etc.).
@@Mike.d.p. link your profile. primal needs to be with all needed primary mods to justify using it over ancient or even non-ancient, if its not weapon of course. primal jewelry is generally useless too because you would not want stats on it, you want chc, chd, cdr or % elem damage. etc. all gear that cant have all resist (if you are str or dex char) because of secondary res mod is not prefered over ancient versions for exmaple. too. so i want to see what your gear is.

how to farm primals: maximize legendaries per hour, 1 out of 400 of them will be primal. The fastest legendary / hour is 4 player regular rifting for most people, speed GR doesn't net you death's breaths which can be used to upgrade yellows to legendaries, each reg rift is 1-2 extra legendaries and more blood shards. At some point, speed 90 > reg rifts with a coordinated team. if you're pugging grifts you're probably not minmaxed with buffs so will be doing each grift in 4 mins.
@@qcydiosplus, regular rifts caps out at t13. grifts keep scaling up. though, admittedly, for some things, like certain weapon archetypes, specific offhands, etc, upgrading a rare to legendary is probably a good way to go, like, its shit for rings, but for something where there's only like 7-8 legendaries anyway, pretty solid.
this is not up to date with current builds. speed 100s are very realistic now. I myself with impale can do a 100 in under 3 minutes. Take this advice for its two cents.
@@jaywoo8 even if it wasn't, grifting is still probably better, given rifts stop scaling up at t13. even people without ancient gear can get past t13 ish grifts.
The fastest way is actually bounties for mats and reroll on the item you want. Primals are very rare in the open world and even when you find one, chances are it’s not the item you’re using and needing.
deffinitely yes, if you are after certain primals, rerolls are your best chance (unless you are a DH and there are only 2 legendary daggers you can get by recrafting yellow to legendary :D)
@DEVILS REVENGE9 grind, grind, grind. I beat level 70 GR with almost no good gear within an hour of turning level 70 on my first character this season (wizard) with the new buffs.. If you haven't gotten your haedrigs gift set then work for that first, I honestly don't know what to tell you if you have a full set and can't beat a GR 26 though when the damage of everything besides necro has been buffed so high. I definitely completed my first level 70 G rift on my second day of playing this season, are you using a set at all?
I think the drop rate is actually lower than this; I ran 100 greater rights at level 85 and from that, including all the blood shards I spent I got exactly zero primals and of the six I have got this season five were primal puzzle rings. Thanks blizzard.
I play diablo 3 on console, can you explain the greater rifts levels, because they are not the same on my screen, all I can see is Level 1(Hard) through to Level 13(Torment) Cheers. Am i looking in the wrong place or something?

I’m curious about what you said regarding how many legendaries drop at different GR levels, where is that info from? I tried searching for something that would tell me what those numbers are and came up empty handed.
Don’t think there is a set number but it is try. The higher the level the greater the loot and quantity of said loot. Do a level 1 GR and then a lvl 90 GR and you will see a huge difference.
Do the primal happen on the roll or on the drop? Meaning, does the chance come on the roll or it is already there during the drop (and rolling does not matter)
It must be GR70 or higher. The difficulty level of the game you create the greater rift in doesn't matter, because it has no effect on the difficulty inside the GR.

Would you go for empowered runs? I feel like empowered are good for when you are maxing a gem, but I always end up stacking like 20-30+ rift keys when I do empowered
Unfortunately, even a primal can be a complete garbage when it has wrong stats, doesn’t matter they are maxed if they are wrong and you can change only one. So getting a good primal is far more less chance. Basically I have not gotten a useful primal yet, even when it dropped for my build, it had 2 wrong stats. Roughly same amount of primals as you dropped.
Depends on the gear piece, but yeah, some stuff (like set gloves) are cancer to drop well, even less so as gg Primal. It all depends on the innate rolls and how many random things it can roll besides those. Off hands are also cancer because of the massive amount of Skill% things it can roll.
I just rerolled my primal bk swords until I was happy with it. If you'd prefer to verify this first just reroll a crap primal you find. Or you can continue your long even longer then need journey to perfection. 😂😂

My first primal that dropped(Which wasn't the guaranteed one at 70 solo) came from ACT 4(High Heavens). I was killing an elite and accidentally hit a vase at the back, the primal shoulders dropped from there, a vase...haha.
it does not theoretically increase chance ... you're capped at 1 in 400 or whatever the drop rate is (not guaranteed) the difference being that more legendaries drop therefore it statistically increases your chance of getting it ... Therefore 4 legendaries drops at 2 min per rift = 100 rifts before a single drop of primal ancient which isn't guaranteed but at a higher tier rift more legendary drops = higher chance 9 legendaries at 2 min a rift = 44 rifts before primal ... however again ... not guaranteed ... and the reason why i say that is because you could be statistically unlucky having to farm around 1200 legendaries before having gotten a primal ancient

I’m paragon 52 and I’m steadily resting on torment 16 greater rift 79, I use the shadows mantle build I can sufficiently do damage but no matter what I do even the smallest of things walk up to me and use my awareness and then one shot me
Mitherium - there is no way you are paragon level 52 at rift 79 you are so full of shit. Doing a single run at lvl 40-50 gives you like 3 paragon levels. Not to mention at paragon level 52 you would be a fresh lvl 70 with no gear meaning you’re lucky be be able to complete a level 30 GR.
I feel like im doing something wrong im soloing 100+ rifts done over 500 rifts and only found 2 primals. everybody else I know have done half the rifts ive done and have over 9. is there something im missing like magic find or something?.
Just want to say there is no fast way to farm primals Ice gone through 650 greater rifts and had only 1 primal drop and it wasn't even anything I could use...Blizzard and their drop rates suck!
Being grouped increases the chance. So if you play mostly solo, you will be getting 1-3 while someone always grouped ends up with 15+ in that same time.
last season i played 60 hours and got around 10 primals this season i'm already at 60 hours with only 3 primals so is not about farm (i have the same numbers of gr's) is all about luck
The original design for primals was to have them roll higher stats than ancients, this concept was nixed and the developers decided for them to have "perfect rolls" IE max ancient stats. I think this decision was a massive blunder, this would of given high paragon players incentive to grind for gear. Since they roll the same as ancient legendaries, they are not always better, which again is stupid considering how rare they are. Also if you reforge a primal it may downgrade to an ancient, which is pretty lame, i think they should only be able to roll primal in kanai cube.
Season 15 i got about 15 primals ... they were dropping almost avery day close to the end of the season i was quite surprised .. only thing was only 2 of them were usful but not to my current build .
For me and many other players, I don't want any old primal, especially for seasons. I want a very specific primal (starting with a a specific MH Weapon, with proper rolls). I'd say reforging legendary is best for this - internet says primal ancient is about 1/400 given a specific item drop, this would mean you would need to do up to 125 full act bounty clears to get a primal. Seems like a lot, but a good team could do this in a few days. I would think it is a much more efficient way to get the actual primal you need/want. If you play all the other classes and don't care about seasons, then yeah this is probably ok, but i think most people are season players.
i am willing to bet your odds are still better doing this tbh. Atleast till you narrow down the items you need to be primal. Because doing this method you have a chance to hit ANY of your needed gear as a primal and your net legs per hour is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY higher. i am positive if someone did the math your odds would be far greater unless like i said you are down to 1-2 primals needed
Depends on the class and weapon. For a DH that needs the impale dagger, it is easier to make several yellow daggers and just roll a primal ancient. The DH can only make 2 legendary daggers.
Primal is just something to make you keep playing, honestly primals can be worse than well rolled ancients and if you have a well rolled ancient thats at 95-97% of the possible power of a primal ancient, then why even bother to keep going for the primal ?
I want the primal, 125 full act bounties on the other hand is just not worth it. However I think you're right, this is the fastest way for a specific primal item.
you don't. you've got to have them out of the stash, and not on that character, to get another. EDIT: can also drop the gem on the ground before doing the grift, it'll check inventory and stash, see nothing, and drop another. still unneeded. if you've got all but the 3 your wizard has equipped, for instance, in the stash, and start a crusader or something and get a legendary gem drop, it'll be one of the three the wizard has. so there's no worry about not being able to get a bane of the powerful on most of your characters or anything, but if you want like a dozen of one gem, you'd need to remove it from the stash with a second character, each time you get one. if you sell it, use it in an ancient boost, whatever, you can get more. but, if a legendary of that type is in the stash or on that character already, you don't get another copy. presumably just to stop the people doing thousands of greater rifts from having thousands of legendary gems just accumulating.
Thanks that is probably what they do, just drop one on the ground several times in a row and do some GRs so that they have a stack to work with and lvl up. Having to move them to alts was a pain in the ass.
@@DmaaaaaxC tbh i don't even see the need to get a stack of them, really. even if you wanted like six bane of the powerful, if you get all the legendary gems with one character, and they're using 3 gems, then the other characters will get their own copy within 3 grifts. and for making buffs to the primals, any legendary gem works. doesn't need to be one of like 20 of any specific gem, just level something up. hell, having less gems works better on console at least, cause for whatever asinine reason, leveled gems are always last. only one i see this maybe being useful on is the level requirement gem.
I my alt uses the same gem, I will just lvl 1 gem and pass it around as needed. I want the stack of gems only to level them to socket into ancients. The benefit is that you can do GRs of any lvl and start lvling the gems in any order, so the gems can be at different levels. That way you always have 5x 100% chance each time you do a GR regardless of the GR lvl. It also prevents you from accidentally lvling a gem that maxes out at 50.

Don't ask me, but ive been doing GR90 with multishot, ave time 3.30 mins and ive always done 3 runs then sort gear. For GR95+ 3 runs will give u more items than you can carry so 90 is ideal. Ive got caldesann all over my multishot and shadow builds, lowest is 100 and on top of that i have a hoard of gems currently at 100-110 waiting for the push to 120+ - this should give you an idea of how many GR's i do. I dont think this is the best way as I havent found that much but it could be that Im just unlucky... most of my primal drops are items that are unusable. Please not another blackthornes primal!

it doesn't. its just a straight up 1 in 400 ish for every legendary. and legendaries increase around 1 in every ten grifts, so if you're at like 70 getting ten or something, you've got something like 2.5%. at gr80 if you're now getting 11, its 2.75%
are you telling me, you loot 1 primal off 400 legendarys? havent played in like a year or so, but last night i logged on my seasonal barb and i got 5 primals in about 2 hours, 2 from upgrading rare items into legendarys, and 3 more by doing ancient vaults. im coming back for this season so i hope i get lucky like this on my seasonal wiz lol

drop the gem you want to dupe on the floor and then start a GR, the riftguardian will drop the one you 'dont' have in your stash. Then pick the one you dropped back up...
TL DR : complete level 70, speedfarm rifts max 3 minutes. Bounties for rerolls are faster most of time if you want a specific gear to be a well rolled ancient or primal
If no red beam it means it's not primal.. you're probably getting normal legendries and ANCIENT legendaries, not primals, primal legendaries always have a red beam.
@@freddymars2014 No no no its a primal it has the red box around the item. When they drop on the floor i dont get a red beam i see the normal legendary beam. Now once i have opened up the item if i drop it on the floor its a read beam but when i kill an elite the beam is the normal legendary beam.
4 primals including the guaranteed one... at paragon 1030'ish atm. I don't recall exactly but IIRC I did my GR70 somewhere around paragon 400-500. So yeah, experiences differ :x
Gr100 with any 6 part set on any char is super easy this patch as they buffed the sets to crazy dps even LoN, get base legendary gems to rank 25 and off u go.

I spent last 75 bloods on kadala for mojo, 1 click, boom!! I got primal Shrukani❤️❤️, and still have 50 bloods.

Do the primal happen on the roll or on the drop? Meaning, does the chance come on the roll or it is already there during the drop (and rolling does not matter)
Do you have to do a GR 70 solo on torment 13 to unlock the primal drop or can you do it on a lower GR level?
It must be GR70 or higher. The difficulty level of the game you create the greater rift in doesn't matter, because it has no effect on the difficulty inside the GR.

Would you go for empowered runs? I feel like empowered are good for when you are maxing a gem, but I always end up stacking like 20-30+ rift keys when I do empowered
I always empower runs, just in case i find a sick item and need to aug it asap
Unfortunately, even a primal can be a complete garbage when it has wrong stats, doesn’t matter they are maxed if they are wrong and you can change only one. So getting a good primal is far more less chance. Basically I have not gotten a useful primal yet, even when it dropped for my build, it had 2 wrong stats. Roughly same amount of primals as you dropped.
Depends on the gear piece, but yeah, some stuff (like set gloves) are cancer to drop well, even less so as gg Primal. It all depends on the innate rolls and how many random things it can roll besides those. Off hands are also cancer because of the massive amount of Skill% things it can roll.
True but since primal/ancient status is locked in you can just reroll in the kube till you get the stats you want, without losing the primal.

I just rerolled my primal bk swords until I was happy with it. If you'd prefer to verify this first just reroll a crap primal you find. Or you can continue your long even longer then need journey to perfection.

@@LikeSilver1 That's not the point of what I said, you can have primal with 2 wrong stats, but you can reroll only one, if you want perfection, you need a tons of luck to get the primal with the right stats, so you can reroll only one, which is wrong...
My first primal that dropped(Which wasn't the guaranteed one at 70 solo) came from ACT 4(High Heavens). I was killing an elite and accidentally hit a vase at the back, the primal shoulders dropped from there, a vase...haha.

it does not theoretically increase chance ... you're capped at 1 in 400 or whatever the drop rate is (not guaranteed) the difference being that more legendaries drop therefore it statistically increases your chance of getting it ... Therefore 4 legendaries drops at 2 min per rift = 100 rifts before a single drop of primal ancient which isn't guaranteed but at a higher tier rift more legendary drops = higher chance 9 legendaries at 2 min a rift = 44 rifts before primal ... however again ... not guaranteed ... and the reason why i say that is because you could be statistically unlucky having to farm around 1200 legendaries before having gotten a primal ancient

I’m paragon 52 and I’m steadily resting on torment 16 greater rift 79, I use the shadows mantle build I can sufficiently do damage but no matter what I do even the smallest of things walk up to me and use my awareness and then one shot me
Mitherium - there is no way you are paragon level 52 at rift 79 you are so full of shit. Doing a single run at lvl 40-50 gives you like 3 paragon levels. Not to mention at paragon level 52 you would be a fresh lvl 70 with no gear meaning you’re lucky be be able to complete a level 30 GR.
Season 20. Have 6 piece WD spider set. Not confident I can solo GR70 solo. Barely scrape through 50 lol...
Is it worth augmenting my regular ancient, or should I farm for a primal ancient and then augment that.
If your regular ancient is a good roll then augment it . Primal is 1 in 400 chance so very rare!

I feel like im doing something wrong im soloing 100+ rifts done over 500 rifts and only found 2 primals. everybody else I know have done half the rifts ive done and have over 9. is there something im missing like magic find or something?.
Just want to say there is no fast way to farm primals Ice gone through 650 greater rifts and had only 1 primal drop and it wasn't even anything I could use...Blizzard and their drop rates suck!

Gr 70 is to unlock the chance of primals dropping, after that they can drop on any difficulty.
Question, if you augment a weapon with a lvl 33 gem and get say 195 INT, can you augment again with a 40 gem and have the two stack?
The newer one will override the first aug
Being grouped increases the chance. So if you play mostly solo, you will be getting 1-3 while someone always grouped ends up with 15+ in that same time.

this season i'm already at 60 hours with only 3 primals

CDR is useless on WD builds because of the Grave Injustice passive. +1 for rolling off CDR

The original design for primals was to have them roll higher stats than ancients, this concept was nixed and the developers decided for them to have "perfect rolls" IE max ancient stats. I think this decision was a massive blunder, this would of given high paragon players incentive to grind for gear. Since they roll the same as ancient legendaries, they are not always better, which again is stupid considering how rare they are. Also if you reforge a primal it may downgrade to an ancient, which is pretty lame, i think they should only be able to roll primal in kanai cube.

After watching you clear that 70, I can appreciate how quickly my dh clearly 80’s in around 2-2:30.
Season 15 i got about 15 primals ... they were dropping almost avery day close to the end of the season i was quite surprised .. only thing was only 2 of them were usful but not to my current build .
For me and many other players, I don't want any old primal, especially for seasons. I want a very specific primal (starting with a a specific MH Weapon, with proper rolls). I'd say reforging legendary is best for this - internet says primal ancient is about 1/400 given a specific item drop, this would mean you would need to do up to 125 full act bounty clears to get a primal. Seems like a lot, but a good team could do this in a few days. I would think it is a much more efficient way to get the actual primal you need/want. If you play all the other classes and don't care about seasons, then yeah this is probably ok, but i think most people are season players.
i am willing to bet your odds are still better doing this tbh. Atleast till you narrow down the items you need to be primal. Because doing this method you have a chance to hit ANY of your needed gear as a primal and your net legs per hour is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY higher. i am positive if someone did the math your odds would be far greater unless like i said you are down to 1-2 primals needed
Depends on the class and weapon. For a DH that needs the impale dagger, it is easier to make several yellow daggers and just roll a primal ancient. The DH can only make 2 legendary daggers.
Primal is just something to make you keep playing, honestly primals can be worse than well rolled ancients and if you have a well rolled ancient thats at 95-97% of the possible power of a primal ancient, then why even bother to keep going for the primal ?
I want the primal, 125 full act bounties on the other hand is just not worth it. However I think you're right, this is the fastest way for a specific primal item.
I've only had one Primal all season. It dropped when I cleared GR70 first time. I was para 200. I'm now Para 810 and have not seen another one.

you don't. you've got to have them out of the stash, and not on that character, to get another. EDIT: can also drop the gem on the ground before doing the grift, it'll check inventory and stash, see nothing, and drop another. still unneeded.
if you've got all but the 3 your wizard has equipped, for instance, in the stash, and start a crusader or something and get a legendary gem drop, it'll be one of the three the wizard has. so there's no worry about not being able to get a bane of the powerful on most of your characters or anything, but if you want like a dozen of one gem, you'd need to remove it from the stash with a second character, each time you get one.
if you sell it, use it in an ancient boost, whatever, you can get more. but, if a legendary of that type is in the stash or on that character already, you don't get another copy. presumably just to stop the people doing thousands of greater rifts from having thousands of legendary gems just accumulating.
Thanks that is probably what they do, just drop one on the ground several times in a row and do some GRs so that they have a stack to work with and lvl up. Having to move them to alts was a pain in the ass.
@@DmaaaaaxC tbh i don't even see the need to get a stack of them, really. even if you wanted like six bane of the powerful, if you get all the legendary gems with one character, and they're using 3 gems, then the other characters will get their own copy within 3 grifts.
and for making buffs to the primals, any legendary gem works. doesn't need to be one of like 20 of any specific gem, just level something up. hell, having less gems works better on console at least, cause for whatever asinine reason, leveled gems are always last.
only one i see this maybe being useful on is the level requirement gem.
I my alt uses the same gem, I will just lvl 1 gem and pass it around as needed. I want the stack of gems only to level them to socket into ancients. The benefit is that you can do GRs of any lvl and start lvling the gems in any order, so the gems can be at different levels. That way you always have 5x 100% chance each time you do a GR regardless of the GR lvl. It also prevents you from accidentally lvling a gem that maxes out at 50.

Don't ask me, but ive been doing GR90 with multishot, ave time 3.30 mins and ive always done 3 runs then sort gear. For GR95+ 3 runs will give u more items than you can carry so 90 is ideal.
Ive got caldesann all over my multishot and shadow builds, lowest is 100 and on top of that i have a hoard of gems currently at 100-110 waiting for the push to 120+ - this should give you an idea of how many GR's i do.
I dont think this is the best way as I havent found that much but it could be that Im just unlucky... most of my primal drops are items that are unusable.

How much does the primal drop rate go up per 1gr level?
it doesn't. its just a straight up 1 in 400 ish for every legendary. and legendaries increase around 1 in every ten grifts, so if you're at like 70 getting ten or something, you've got something like 2.5%. at gr80 if you're now getting 11, its 2.75%
isnt it faster to get leveling gear/grift gear and then speed level a character to do a gr 70? that would take alot less time than 9 hours

drop the gem you want to dupe on the floor and then start a GR, the riftguardian will drop the one you 'dont' have in your stash. Then pick the one you dropped back up...
in other words, as long as your character doesnt have a legendary gem in inventory/stash, you will get another in a GR

TL DR : complete level 70, speedfarm rifts max 3 minutes. Bounties for rerolls are faster most of time if you want a specific gear to be a well rolled ancient or primal

I don't get the read beam when it drops on the floor after killing an elite.
If no red beam it means it's not primal.. you're probably getting normal legendries and ANCIENT legendaries, not primals, primal legendaries always have a red beam.
@@freddymars2014 No no no its a primal it has the red box around the item. When they drop on the floor i dont get a red beam i see the normal legendary beam. Now once i have opened up the item if i drop it on the floor its a read beam but when i kill an elite the beam is the normal legendary beam.

You can get primal after a GR70 in a group, however your first solo GR 70 will guarantee you a Primal.

Love how this guy minimizes the difficulty of doing GR100. That statement alone is enough to not take him seriously.
Gr100 with any 6 part set on any char is super easy this patch as they buffed the sets to crazy dps even LoN, get base legendary gems to rank 25 and off u go.
