It make me dance alone, and I am 83. Feeling like 18 in spite of painful legs. What rythm!
God bless you Grandpa! XOXO :D
I'm with you
Stay in motion! Don’t stop!
All power to you brother :)
This sound very, wishing you more music like that and no pain in your legs.
51 years old now, been a fan since my first year in high school at 14 years old and friends used to say I listened to "Old people music" well I'm old now, and it still sounds better than what my kids listen to on the radio.
I play bass. Melvin owns the bass. When you can groove while playing AND sing the line you are world class. What a group of magical musicians.
I am 68 years old and have been a jazz enthusiast all my life and an amateur drummer and can not get enough of this. totally awesome

Thanks so much!
Get up, Stand up ???
thank you
My Dear God, if more people would listen and pay attention to this type of music and look at and just watch these great artists think where we could be.
Yes I agree with you rayjr.9187. Just consider that there´s no more option: ! 1. to listen to good music and 2. to listen to trash music. Just people with sensibility is capable to distinguish and to choose the best. And this music from the excellent artists: Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin, belong to the good music choice. And I would say: Is more than good. Is Celestial music. Congratulations to you for this choice !. I´m a jazz --fan from Mexico City. I love the jazz since 1987 with George Benson with his: Lady from the L.P: Breezin. and Dave Grusin with his. "She could be mine" from the: Out of the Shadows L:P. see you soon ! God bless you.
A men
I used to groove to these two back in the 80's when I was a student at UW-Milwaukee. How cool to see them in Jakarta, Indonesia, my chosen home. Love these two and love Indonesia.
I'm from 🇵🇭 PHILIPPINE, 67 years of age. Very so nice Jazz music..I LOVE 💖IT..
Meu preferido ❤️
Wow !
Only 4 musicians on the stage making this beautiful music. Incredible
You can say wow again. And again.
Thank God for you tube!!!
this ancient musician are like a good wine ,much older , much better
I never get tired of this concert💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
The band:
Melvin Lee Davis - bass,
Sonny Emory - drums,
Dave Grusin - keys,
Lee Ritenour - guitars.
Sonny is amazing! They all are!
awesome song jazz
Dream team! Beautiful play!
Tq nice info ya
Sonny is indeed one of Lee's best drummers and he's played with a few, especially the great Carlos Vega, but Sonny makes Lee's decision to drag along his son Wesley as part of the musical tag-team is more about nepotism than musicianship. You can't get any better than Sonny in terms of chops, in the pocket groove, and strong, consistent backbeat. Go listen to recent concerts, hear son Wesley, and then come back to this performance.
It baffles me how people genuinely have pressed the dislike button. This music is soulful, funky bass and sexy ass Jazz licks.
Dead from the neck up!!
Nice music
Seriously this is master class musicianship
There are trolls for all comment sections.
@@StixH Do you mean the musicians? I would say dead from the neck down, but hey....
On June 26, 1934, Dave Grusin, an American jazz composer and pianist, was born. He is also known for composing film scores.
He received several awards, among others the Oscar for best score in 1989 for the soundtrack of the film The Milagro Beanfield War (Rebelião em Milagro) by Robert Redford, with the Brazilian Sônia Braga.
The best Jazz music in the city!
The wonder of jazz is that all players get a chance to showcase their talents without losing the beauty of the piece.
Years and of playing and a love of the genre play a huge part in how they make it look effortless, because by then, it is.

This is the old school way that "Smooth Jazz" is done. Neo-Classic!
I have nothing to add other than AMEN!
One of the best live concerts I have ever watched! The comradery on stage was amazing to see. 4 world class musicians at the top of their game...just freaking fantastic!
Grusin and Rit are 2 of the heavyweights in the industry. These cats have been great forever. I adopted this musical taste from my mother back in Pittsburgh in the early 70's. She is now 75 and we still listen to this style today
Great story pal..... Jus what I want to read !!! ;)
Thank you sir.
Rob Hammond I first heard grp's Raven back in the early 90s and have been a huge fan ever since!!! love the finesse and the raw talent.
they get better with age!!l! keep on grooving!!!!!!!
Likewise I've been listening & loving the music of Dave Grusin since the early '70s. Never ceases to amaze! Truly a legend!
Lee Ritenour to me is one of the best guitarist of all time, love his style. Great performance. One love from Papua New Guinea.
yess
Two of the strongest people in the world in jazz music. Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin
JAZZ FUNK at its finest. Think these days have gone by the wayside, I'm still playing all my Great Vinyl lps by these Great Artists 👍😁🤗🙏
i can not imagine what kind of man can dislike this ?? If I'm not agree with some style i don't feel the need to dislike it ....
Man, I was thinking that exact same thing just before seeing your note. Totally agree with you.
It's good seeing Dave Grusin still playing that beautiful sound from his keyboards.
Geweldig, wat een ritme, daarop moet je bewegen. Klasse muzikanten.
@@noekvangiffen Translation = Great, what a rhythm, you have to move on that. Class musicians. I agree! Daar ben ik het mee eens!
And not to forget all the fantastic stuff he's written over the course of 50 plus yrs!
Nice team and sound to listen to. The best jazz ...
Dave Grusin. I loved all of his songs long before I knew who he was. What a special artist. Life is more beautiful with his magic.

I've liked Grusin & Ritenour for at least 25 years, but Sonny and Melvin make them even better.
and Lee and Dave would agree!
Fred Stuckmann p
Actually, thanks to UA-cam, I just came across the man and WoW!
Fred Stuckmann Yeah they do! Sonny, as usual, packs the groove with crystalline clear cymbal work, snappin' snare and boppin' BD bombs all mixed into undeniably emotive phrasing with the band! He tastefully supports everyone else collectively and individually.
I agree of course and therefor am interested in whether anyone has seen Lee perform with his son on drums/percussion? Have chance to see him next week.
Sonny Emory is a beast on drums!!
total rockstar!!!!
Woooow the drummer.....excellent jazz
👍
I like Lee Ritenour play, very nice
The bass player is Melvin Davis ....he plays with many studio musicians since many years. He has a great touch !
Frédéric Jacquet Melvin Davis work with soul r&b singer musician O'Bryan burnette iii back in the 80s and other artist like Chaka Khan
what bass that ge use in Rio Funk ?
@@vivaviva7972 that is a 5 string fender jazz bass or, just as likely, a fender styled guitar from a custom builder.
That’s for sure!!
@@vivaviva7972 cc cccç cc
The magical combination of all of these phenomenal musicians on one stage = BRAVO, GENTS!!! ❤🎉 I have been in love with LEE & his music since I was teen in the 80’s - AND NO ONE CAN MATCH MELVIN’S BAD AS$$ BASS! ❤❤❤
These two are the original dynamic duo! Never stop smiling when I listen to them ...

I can listen to Mr. Lee's music all day. His brand of smooth jazz is extremely listenable.

Jeff Studley for men
My wife and I were one of the crowd who stand to see those legends.. thank God for the moment
Dave Grusin at 80 paired with Lee R. (again). A true tour-de-force of modern music !
Captain Fingers and Grusin what a treat …..I grew up listening to those Musicians with My Bro...Thanks
This guy is such a master of music and guitar and no one knows. Such a shame.
thats right he s my favourite guitarist of all time!
Jim Murphy "No one knows" hes pretty darn known..
Jim Murphy if maybe that is a comfort for you, don't worry about the fame of a musician,
the feelings they experience while doing music are so much stronger than anything that could be gained by huge fame or more money , bithces and drugs :)
"No one knows?" Well, we know and love him alright.
I have been a huge Dave Grusin fan ever since Mountain Dance......still a great CD and he has written so much great stuff !!!
Been a huge fan since Sheffield Labs direct-to-disc vinyl in the early '70s. Truly a legend in his own time!
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Chapter by Chapter / Verse by Verse !!!!!!! Amen
I loved that CD too. That goes back a long way.
I heard all this music during my infancy. It was a privilege
This show is the ultimate demonstration in good musicianship and musical communication between the members.
Wow, 1.7 million viewings !!! That solo jazz piano is wonderful
Dave grusin is the absolute musician as he composes.plays the piano so well and can jam with the best musician performers
May Lee AKA Captain fingers never lose his touch..One Awesome guitarist all around the board doesn't matter what type of music he's doing either..
I saw Lee and his awesome band a few days ago in Phoenix. They were very good! His son, Wesley, played the drums. He is excellent! I could listen to him all night. Melvin and Dave were awesome as well! One of the best concerts ever!
Lee and Dave were great but not to forget the great Sonny Emory on the Drums and Melvin Davis who rocked the Bass Solo.
Thats a peace of gold we hear here.
I think I played a gig with sonny around 1984. he made us sound good
Isn't bass player Nathan East?
ondaride777..hey .. don't forget to watch and listen to 35.27. a couple of fun sections of the mountain dancing tea for two?
ondaride777
What do you mean Lee and Dave were great? They still are great and are very much alive and kicking as well :D!
old folks can play even BETTER ,I love just the way instruments are
played.
do you take lessons from young folks?
What a brilliant session! And they say it's Contemporary Jazz! Well, there's nothing Temporary about it. Period!
I WOULD SAY THAT THOSE WHO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WATCH THIS VIDEO FROM THEIR OWN HOME, CAN ONLY APPRECIATE, APPLAUD AND ... THANKS FOR THIS. The fact that some unwary people had the courage to put a "dislike" is yet another proof of what the ancient Romans said, that is: "mater imbecillorum semper incinta est".
Dave Gruisin killed that It Might Be You solo!
Awesome, if you don't like this you are listening to the wrong type of music. ... absolutely amazing jazz here !!
Mpravo, ❤❤❤❤❤
masters at work!
Thank you Lee! Rio Funk, one of the best funky piece in the world!!! DJ Funky Claudio Cussigh, Switzerland. Totally crazy this 'Rio Funk' version!!! Wouahouuh and Mmmmhhhhhh!!!
great stuff--its nice these two jazz giants from the late 1970's still plugging away, better than ever
Sound of even ! Lee loves music so much that he lets his partners play, and that's so rare these days.
Smoothe like butter.
Gotta say I Just love Lee's music .
He is a fine musician
I have Met Sonny Emory on Drums fresh from Gramling State University back in 1984 and he was a Beast then and he is a Total Animal Now. He is one of the Most Underrated Drummers out there. Give this Man his Props Please.
First exposure to him was when he was with Earth Wind & Fire
I agree totally man. Listen to him on Lee’s Live in LA Album.
Sonny can lay down the perfect feel for the song at hand, and he can throw in those complex crazy fills but always come back in on the 1. Amazing!

Just love it. Two of the great masters of the 80s, producing such wonderful music and giving us true audiophile recordings.
Mr. Archonta that's what I needed to do

This is amazing. These guys are so under control that it’s mesmerising to watch. Incredible concert.
The OTHER Four Play! Just superb playing!
Words cannot descibe how excellent this music is!
Absolutely stunning session of superb modern jazz-funk by the legends that are Dave Grusin & Lee Ritenour as well as the brilliant rhythm-section! Makes life worth living again getting us through Covid 19!
Lee makes it look so easy. Don't be fooled he's a genius I watched him close up at his club concert at Corner Hotel Richmond Victoria Australia maybe 2015. He's both brilliant and humble. I shook his hand after the show and was blown away with his innocence and generosity. Go Lee!!
Man, licks like these never get old - Hope everyone's doing well
Funny how when this music was popular the world was more peaceful, when rap and hip hop became popular the world became more volatile and angry.
Java Jazz Memberikan Kesempatan untuk Indonesia Menyaksikan Seorang Legenda !!
I love Dave Grusin since th '85,
Every day I play it at work, at the computer.
What energy and sophistication - I will NEVER get bored :)
Thanks and greetings to the Java Jazz Festival
Greetings from Poland :)
Dave Grusin... wow!
Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin, Melvin Davis, and Sonny Emory. One great team. Enjoy.
I've been watching this show for 2 years, at least once a week. It is so good.
defenetly two of my jazz heroes of all times.......i remember the day that i got my first cd of Lee and Dave.....steel roking the house!!!
Superbevideohenri
Having a very stressful life. But these music especially this specific video makes me let go all of my stress and enjoying the music.
I loved the Drum Solo! This guy's are amazing.
+Lukaum Tenório--Sonny Emery ROCKS! Everybody knows him from Earth, Wind, and FIre, but he's AMAZING in a jazz setting as well!
Wow I love Dave Grusin's Mountain Dance. This use to be my favorite tune when I started listening to jazz. It has brought back the good old memories .Thanks Dave you made my night.
Great tunes! My primary source for CDs in the day was GRP mail order. What a wonderful channel for me to acquire much of the music I love best. Thanks Dave! RIP ❤
Awesome music and that drummer is amazing. They all are actually. What a groove !
Too,too gooood! One of the best live recording I've ever heard!
Lee is da' Man!
Super Jazz.
I guess if you can't be there, You Tube is the next best. thanks for the upload. just wonderful.
Great music
Aaahhh....the good old sound of GRP....love it....I had many of their CDs in the mid 1980s and my mum loved them too.
My collection goes back to the early '70s with his Sheffield Labs direct-to-disc vinyls. Gotta love his music!
2019
I think you can call Lee R., the happy jazz guitarist! He is always smiling.
Makes you relax. A legend in his own silent way. Can't still believe that he is
not rated as one of RS's 100 greatest guitarists; and yet Kurt Cobain is there?
Ah anyway. Lee ROCKS JAZZ!
Haha that cracked me up. Consider RS.....they only list guitarists that the mainstream know. Sad really...
@@bradwhitfield4970 Brad, with all due respect, I don't consider anything in that birdcage paper purpose journal as "mainstream".....lol. They are a highly politicized and spin doctored social media outlet, with an arrogant opinion of themselves, and a condescending attitude toward the art and artists they hold themselves out as knowing and having professional insight on. It is hilarious; plus, they've become nothing but an outlet for radical, leftist, drivel and lies, even worse. Their writers once ridiculed both The Beatles and solo albums of Paul McCartney. They suck-up to artists who have kissed their ass in the past. I love them.
Dave Grusin. Easily among my favorite musician-composer-performers of all time. Far too under appreciated. One of the all-time greats. Been loving his music for nearly 50 yrs. Still have his Sheffield Labs direct disc vinyls from the early '70s & the later CD releases. Never stop lovin' that sound!
Great combination lee n Dave jamming what a pair can't say words to describe their music.
This just never gets old. 68 and still cranking it up.
