- I decided to make a video on how to replace the rear brake backing plate on a Mercedes sprinter since I couldn't find a video on it. I also cover removing and fitting new handbrake shoes in this video, I will upload a separate video on adjusting handbrake shoes.
Thanks for this mate, it’s been really helpful 🙏🏻 thanks for taking the time to show how this is done 👍🏻
Thanks mate. Pleased it helped.
thanks so much I being afraid of touching my parking brakes but you just push me to do it 😃 thanks again 05 dodge sprinter
Im pleased to hear! I bet you will love having a parking brake again.
Thanks for posting this. 👍
I’ve got to do this whole job tomorrow and needed to know what I’m getting myself into
Im just sitting in the garage watching you with my sprinter on the jack waiting for me. I'm bit afraid to remove drive shaft but if have to be done it have to. Will update soon..... I hope 😂
It's not as scary as you think haha good look
🎉 I did it 🎉
It's not that bad as I thought
Thank you for making this. I followed throughout and together we did it! Thank you 😁😁😁 GSF Car Parts sent me the wrong disks though. 😟 will be having a word with them tomorrow. annoying as I could of got this side finished.
Your welcome 👍 pleased it helped! It's always a nightmare when you end up with the wrong parts.
Thanks for this Phil, big help to me today
Grand pleased it helps
Good work mate and this is very helpful 😊
thanks for taking the time to make this video, very helpful
Pleased you found it helpful
Very helpful video. Thanks for the upload.
Dude! Awesome video!
My Crafter had started making a rubbing noise from the rear - a watch of this video prompted me to have a look and, yup, exactly the same has happened to mine. So, great video - just what I need. Thank you.
Just one question - what are the chances of my somehow screwing up the wheel bearing when I remove the half-shaft? Just need to know exactly how much it could cost me if it all goes wrong!
I'd be very suprised if you damage the wheel bearing. But as the saying goes never say never I suspose. But I HIGHLY doubt you would damage it. Let me know how you get on 👍
@@ThePhilBilly Will do. Thank you for the reassurance.
@@ThePhilBilly Sorry it's taken so long to reply! It all went to plan and no damage was done... Except I screwed up the adjustment and it failed its MOT yesterday - it came in just under the 16% requirement. Luckily the garage did the adjustment on the spot and re-tested it immediately.
Anyway, thank you again for a really helpful video.
@@nabarnes no worries! Pleased it went through it's test!
Me mate Tinkering Tom in Galway will like this , very helpful , he’s a visual learner & a top bloke ,, like yourself , thanks bud
Thanks mate 👍 I always find it helpful to see what needs doing. Much easier than trying to read it in a book!
THANKS BRILLIANT DEMONSTRATION !
Thanks mate it showed me were the hud went with the pipe is at the bottom of the hub
Hey awesome work dude thank you!! this has really helped me, one we question? do you need to replace lost oil from half shaft? if yes how do you do that? thankyou James
@@jamesheaney-r2q I didn't have to change any oil on it so I can't comment if I'm honest. I'd suggest doing a a side at a time and jack one side up then hopefully nothing will come out.
Really good guiding video
Thanks 👍
Great video. Saved my arse!
So...the wind down on the handbrake pads is a wear device. Notice how it's the same size thread as the thickness of pad!
Set it to fully screwed in for new pads.
Mechanic said these are "fiddly"
Not at all just do it yourself.
Thanks phil.
Pleased it helped matey!
Thank You very Much , Your the Best !!!!!
Your welcome!
WHY DIDNT YOU INSTALL THE SHOES AFTER FITTING THE BACKING PLATE AND BEFORE INSTALLING THE BEARING?
If I'm honest I can't remember, there must of been a reason I didn't but not sure why.
Is this the same setups as the old vw lt's?
If I'm honest I don't know I've never had anything to do with them but I imagine it should be quite similar.
nice informative video
Thanks 👍
Great Video. thanks
Do y have any video where P0299 code comes on error reader
Sorry no idea on that one.
Well done mate
Good job . thank you.
going to attempt this both backplates knackered obviously you need to top up dif
No idea why this comment never showed up on my notifications. Hope you got it sorted!
Great video, very helpful! Did you top up the oil in the axle somehow? :)
No I didn't top the oil up because this one lost no oil. If you have to top it up I think there will be a fill plug on the top of back of the diff.
Okey thanks!
@@kristofferoscarsson5632its made of rubber I think
Twist and pull Tom , not bang, drill and weld in any extra parts 😉
Grazie del bel video
Save yourself the frustration and assemble the shoes on the work bench, open them up and slide them over the hub, much easier than trying to assemble through that hole. 👍
Can you change those axles to just run on discs brakes without brake shoes as some models?
To be honest I have have a clue, everyone of these I've come across has had inboard handbrake shoes so far.
@@ThePhilBilly Thank you for your reply ..
It don't make sense to have all those parts on a vehicle especially with modern disc brakes.
@@garethgareth8699 it's surprising how much stuff still has inboard drums. Especially to say they are usually crap cos they never get cleaned off or adjusted so they just go rusty sieze up and don't work. Compaired to standard handbrakes on calipers which are always moving and cleaning off.
@@ThePhilBilly Good morning waw you've enlightened me.
Yes the more parts the more capitalism.
However some ecological scientists say we have to stop using up fossils.
This is why theres less parts in some technology as the modern flat screen television.
The shoes are the only way to have a parking brake. Completely separate from the brakes that stop the vehicle.
What is that pipe thing coming of the hub for please
I'm guessing you mean the half shaft, that's what connects the drive hub to the differential giving you drive.
@@ThePhilBilly hi mate on the hub there is like a drain or breather does that go to the top of the halfshaft or the top
@@billmansfield4946 If I'm honest I cant remember now, I cant remember a drain so id imagine it would be a breather at the top.
