  • When commercial radio was illegal in the UK this was one way of starting a radio station. The others were to broadcast without a licence, broadcast from outside the UK, or live in the Isle of Man. This audio was taken from a BBC TV 'Tomorrow's World' programme in 1973.
UBN broadcasts were from the United Biscuits factory in Osterley to United Biscuits factories in London, Manchester and Glasgow 24 hours a day. It was the training ground for many of the UK's radio presenters including Roger Scott, Adrian Love, Pete Reeves, Roger Day, Bob Snyder, Tony Emmerson, Chris Grant, Nicky Horne, Graham Dene, Peter Young, and Dale Winton.
It was closed down in 1979, when the decision was made to play Independent Local Radio (ILR) stations in the factories instead.

What our stupid U.K. governments of the time should have let the heroic offshore pirates like “Big L” Radio London become. Instead of crushing, stifling and restricting it all.
