    In my opinion, this is a project that has a similar position to BAND-MAIKO's songs. It's a wonderful experiment to add more variety to their ever-expanding library. I think there is also a desire for English-speaking people to sing along with Okyuji😊

    Co-written with Mike Einziger. His influence is definitely heard in the signature riff, post chorus and overall arrangement. Then you find the BM ladies in all of the details; the meandering bass, the drum fills that a hired gun on a studio session would never play, the melodic counter melodies Kanami adds in the chorus, as well as a ripping solo. This is the feel good song that everyone waves their lighters/cell phones on. It will still be an outlier, but a nice one. A large portion of the upcoming album is expected to be collaborations with other famous artists from the West, so it may bend you this way and that along the way. Einzinger actually came on stage and performed this with them in Tokyo last night, where they performed with Incubus.

      No evidence there will be any collabs on the album. They have way too much of their own material to boil down. Collabs are predicted in the summer.

    It's about their trials and joy over the past 10 years. They came up the hard way, performing over 400 live shows in 10 years, 8 if you count the pandemic. In their early days, sometimes in front of only a dozen or two in the audience. Kanami told the story how scared she was driving their van in the mountains in the wind. There's video of them packing up their equipment after gigs. They've really bonded in 10 years.

    Whow. Well, not sure about their dress style but ... their hair style make them even more cute. You cannot "optimize" Miku and Misa ... but I very much like the new look of Saiki, Kanami and Akane. Please keep it that way! Love it. The song has been creeping into my ears for a long time and won't let me go. It needs some listens but then it is an ear worm ;-) Great new stuff from our beloved hard rock band! And by the way: I love the guitar intro of this music video!

  • @EliseAutoXr

    I like the song, takes a few times to really enjoy it ... the lyrics are special as well. Since it is a collaboration with that dude from Incubus, it does hint towards more mainstream, but I'm good with that. It is just part of their broad range of music they create. BTW, if you did not get to check out the recent spin-off concert you really missed an awesome show! Thanks for the reaction.

  • @etoineschrdlu9382

    This song grows on you with repeated listening. I think that Mike Einziger must have binge listened the Band-Maid catalog and realized that one of Band-Maid's greatest strengths were their mid tempo songs like "About Us", "Daydreaming", "Page", "Smile", etc.
    I find it ironic that Band-Maid decided for themselves to video B-side "Thrill" rather rather than the acoustic A-side "Ai to Jōnetsu no Matador". It was definitely the right choice, it saved Band-Maid, but someone at Platinum Passport knew that Band-Maid should do mid-tempo songs like that. The irony is that Band-Maid knows it too and continues doing such songs with just as much intensity as they do their rockers. That's what makes their fans believe in them and rank them up with rock legends like the Beatles and the Stones, Pink Floyd and Rush.

    I don't see ending up in my top 10 songs folder with the 70 Bans Maid songs already there. Misa's bass lines was the only thing to keep me listening to make through the few things Akane played and Kanami's solo. I've listen to it a few times now it is not growing on me. It is missing the Band Maid musical twists and turns. Most Band Maid songs have passion and emotion this just lays flat.

    • @lurkmerchant
      @lurkmerchant 13 днів тому +1

    The music video is beautiful and really well done. It is also nice seeing the members not in their maid costumes (something I hope they do more of). As far as the song, it is a solid track; there is nothing wrong with it at all. Personally, I like songs that have, at least in parts, a more punk rock sound. There are some other tracks they have that are not that style, which I also like. Bestie, though, is not really my thing.

    I reckon the reason as to why it's all in English is because it is co-written with Mike Einzinger, just like what they did for The Dragon Cries. At first I didn't like the audio version as much as other BM's mid tempo songs but I love this MV, they all look awesome in it.

    I agree with the leaning on a mainstream(western) vibe but it was Co-written with Mike Einzinger so I understand why. In the same spectrum I have to ask what else mainstream song has a lead bass the entire song as well though? I think it fell nicely in between their sound we have come to expect and something on the radio without fulling leaning into it. Great thoughts and reaction!

  • @dariengoodwin
    @dariengoodwin 14 днів тому +2

    Like you, my first reaction was kinda "meh" as it seemed a bit bland and a pitch for mainstream North America and Europe radio play. BUT.. each play I got to like it more.. and more. As someone else has said it becomes an ear worm. Now it's one of my favorite Band Maid tracks. I do hope it gets the band wider exposure outside Japan. What will be interesting is whether this track is a one-off or whether it represents a new direction for the band and their new album.

    MISA's playing and bass tone are setting new standards... and Akane's drumming is so in-the-pocket and distinguishable... and Kanami's solo is Daydreaming masterful! The recording and mix are as enjoyable as the song. Miku and Saiki's lyrics are heartfelt. "I can't look into your eyes." Is Band-Maid a band of fashion-forward, trend-setting Besties? Thx, Mikey & Band-Maid!

  • @AntonioGraell
    @AntonioGraell 14 днів тому

    Well, I agree with you, good song (very good), but yes, it has a more mainstream sound.
    I also prefer their wilder side ;) (Hate?, Domination, Shambles, Black Hole, No God...), although I think it's good that they don't stick to a specific style and dare to release songs of other styles, either because they need it internally as artists or because of commercial interests to sound in the media.
    I like the chosen wardrobe and I think that, as they did when they recorded the acoustic, it is a sign that this song is a facet attached to BAND-MAID.
    Greetings from Spain ;)

    IMHO this is an attempt to find a wider international audience - both the video and styling , singing the entire song in English , and the length of the song which I think is designed to gain radio plays .
    I do like the styling from an aesthetic point of view and I think the song is a start in their international ambitions but , and this is said with love and respect , it's not a " breakthrough " song - more a introduction and if they decide to continue down this path hopefully there will be punchier songs to come ( it's what they do best ! ) - just felt this was perhaps a bit " safe " although pleasant enough 🤷‍♂

    Like some other opinions this song is just an okay song for me after over 10 times of listen. It's a bit cut-and-pasty for Band-Maid but I still like the intro/outro guitar riffs and how it's ended.
    I'm sure Kanami will evolve what she's learnt from this collaboration like she did with manners.
    I guess that they paid much respect to Mike Einziger and didn't push their style too much, like that time they worked with Tony Visconti.
    I expected it wasn't going to be my favourite bandmaid song, but live performance is still better than this, and Saiki still held 8-bar note.
    I have to say Saiki and Miku have amazing lung capacity. 😊

    I love Band Maid and like many others, credit them for re-igniting my passion in music. However as a 55 year old metal head, it hurts me to say this but, there is nothing in this song for me. This is straight up American pop rock. Where’s the gap? I love their softer ballads; About us, Memorable etc. they are very heartfelt songs directly from our Maids. This one is just fluff and if it was the first time seeing or hearing Band Maid, I would have just kept walking and probably not even looked at their back catalogue. If I’m being honest with myself.

    Probably my least favourite song by them until now. Too much Incubus and not enough Band-Maid. Or to be precise, too much new Incubus, because Incubus once were a fantastic band but lost it later on. I was hoping that Band-Maid would tickle Incubus to unleash some of their old S.C.I.E.N.C.E. energy again. Also not a fan of the English vocals. Went on my (very short) Band-Maid dud list, since even multiple listens couldn't save it.

      It must be Japanese thing not to push their opinion when working with international artists/producer. It's still a chance to get some new inspiration and I'm sure Kanami will make the best use out of this in the future.
