This is not the first time I’ve seen them perform without their maid gear. They wore non-maid outfits during their acoustic Christmas performance.
If I didn’t know Mike was involved in the writing I wouldn’t have guessed they had a cowriter, though only because they always try new things. I would just have assumed Kanami was listening to late 90’s rock. It feels different from their other music, but they do that a lot. It’s one of the many things I love about the band
It definitely had a different vibe from what I'm used to (which isn't saying much since I'm late to the party.) But Kanami's part still has me swooning.

I've heard this song about 20 times; I love it more and more with each time I listen to it.

MISA's playing and bass tone are setting new standards... and Akane's drumming is so in-the-pocket and distinguishable... and Kanami's solo is Daydreaming masterful! The recording and mix are as enjoyable as the song. Miku and Saiki's lyrics are heartfelt. "I can't look into your eyes." Is Band-Maid a band of fashion-forward, trend-setting Besties? 💞 Thx, Mikey & Band-Maid!
The main difference is that recently Band-Maid have not produced as many slower paced songs as they did in the past. Myself and many fans have missed them, as they often show Saiki's vocals and Kanami's guitar work at their melodic best. Great reaction- Thanks.

Great reaction to a great song. I think my expression must have been similar to yours as I watched this for the first time. As for the Maids not being in the battle armor, the only other time they didn't wear it was in their 2021 Christmas Acoustic Concert. The sound is the different, yet the same. The opening rift does sound like Incubus. The song is structured a bit more accessible to none rock fans..."pop radio friendly" if you will. Anyway, keep rocking with the Maids. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
