Let's try to be respectful to the owners please. These people drove over 2 hours to get to me because there aren't any cat groomers in their area. We don't know everyone's situation. Thank you ❤
Good on you for saying that !
What's the official name of that ball helmet? I have a cat that may need one when being groomed.
Respectful to the people who let their pet get to this state? Yeah, no. No respect for them. They are assholes, either unwillingly or willingly. If you can't have a pet, don't get a pet.
👍🏻 for “death daggers”
True but they can @ least brush them daily
I’m showing this to my cat and explaining that this is why we brush him, so we don’t have to send him to space.

Can't stop laughing 😆 lol
Sometimes, it seems like they understand that we're temporarily making them uncomfortable for their own good... But also sometimes, not.
But we've still gotta do it, regardless. 😩
I got a soft brush that was basically silicone bristles on a glove, both cats I had at the time LOVED it. Seemed quite effective as well
Yes, I think its important to inform the little ones of possible consequences. (And I imagine the treats in space are a signifigantly lower quality that Earth treats). Very responsible of you Nicole Ryan. 😊

He was a much better kitty than my kitty would have ever been at the beginning. My kitty was more like astronaut kitty than that mild mannered sweetheart!
For sure. 🥺
Hi Deanna...One of my pair of beloved "Senior" kitties (Finn), is a 12-year-old, shorthaired Persian, or "Exotic"...They're both perfect gentlemen, & luckily, through the years, my wide variety of cats have always been gentle & lovable, but this guy is THE most loving, sweet natured & affectionate cat I've ever known...He sleeps on m left shoulder every night & runs to the door when he hears me coming through the front door...I can only imagine how much you must miss your sweeties...They sure are pieces of our hearts, aren't they...Hugs from Ohio *: )*
My mother was legally blind and had a cat who didn't care for other people. When she passed I found Gracie had severe matting and groomers were scared of injuring her and couldn't help. I finally found a vet who understood the issue and took care of her. It was a reformed kitty who returned, it is a wonderful thing you do for these animals. Take care.

That's because he knew there was happiness awaiting him in the end
@@nawab256 No he didn't. He doesn't understand grooming like a human does.
I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if he struggled with mobility due to the matting.
He was a very chill lil dude! I’d be hella impressed if my cat did half as well. This prince has absolutely earned ALL the treats!
probably felt a bunch of relief as the felt was being taken off of him
If you take a case of matting like that to a vet, they will kindly sedate him, but he would wind up with cuts all over. I've seen it several times.
I know why they took him to this young lady. She was extremely gentle & patient, and didn't cut him anywhere. Amazing job!
My dog had been traumatized at the groomers after having his toe cut off and hung on a pole. He was a gentle giant, but anytime someone tried to pick him up with clippers in his vicinity he was UNHAPPY. So much so, he bit a vet tech and needed to be put to sleep (sedated, not euthanized) for every subsequent clipping. That was, until we met an actual angel. Our dog let the guy touch every one of his paws (something he wouldn't even let ME do without flinching) and clip every nail without even getting huffy. People tend to underestimate a groomer. a good groomer is the best person on Earth for a scared or heavily matted animal.
and now the bathing process should be much easier
This! Vets only know one haircut and that is “ready for surgery”. My dog had a traumatic experience at a groomers before we got her and it has left her terrified of scissors and clippers. My mum (vet surgeon) has to sedate her when she needs clipped and though she’s getting better at it, the first time we tried she looked like Dobby if he got ran over by a lawnmower. Unfortunately we don’t trust any local groomers due to friend’s dogs also having traumatic experiences so it is the Dobby haircut for our dog. She and any dogs going in for treatment don’t get any nicks now though which is a plus
had to take my maine coon to the vet for a shave too. Because the breeder we got her from lied about the cat being used to brushing. She had awful matting that no amount of brushing could fix. Still getting her used to being brushed, she doesn't like it unless it's on her neck.
@@alexgade4512 I have the same problem with my Maine Coon. He only likes his main brushed, anywhere else is a major struggle. Though we've learned we can distract him with a cold soda can, he loves to lick the condensation 🤣
I'm honestly suprised he went that long without being aggressive, what a good cat❤

I think they do know that you're helping them, they are willing to let you help if they know something is bothering them. Our interventions are extremely simple compared to this, but they will always chill and give us time to help, butt-brushing, claw trimming, etc., once it becomes routine, they feel safe.
@@deletesoon70 My cats will let me know when they have an itchy ear because they've learned scratching services are available on demand. 😁 They find human hands quite convenient!

For the amount of pain he must have been in from that matting, he was an absolute sweetheart.
Considering Prince spent 2 hours in the car to get to the appointment, his good behaviour is even more impressive
Это перс. А они все флегматики по большей части.
I'm sorry, but how could they let the Matting get THAT BAD?
@@QUICKBOOKS1 you dont know their situation so dont assume that they got him matted.
@@QUICKBOOKS1 I grow up with 2 Iran cats. They get matted veeeery easily. Other cats I owned with long fur never had this kind of problem. We brushed our cats daily but they still had mats here and there and needed very often appointments but vets give anasthesia during while doing shaving(we dont have groomers) and it was bad for them. We even lived in an area with no vet and it was nightmare. Our cat was having a diffucult time so my granny and dad decided to shave him but he hates being shaved so it was pretty bloody.
He did pretty well all things considered. Even without a bath, I'm sure just having all that matted hair removed made him feel a lot better.
Yeah for sure. I still would have liked to give such a kitty an Epsom salts bath to help the infected raw skin heal.
@@mjrussell414 TBH having seen cats with skin infections due to matting, this looked fairly minor. Now that he's shaved, he should probably heal quickly, especially if they have him under a vet's care to help monitor the situation.

I have one of those bubble muzzles for my cats. Best thing ever. One of my cats hates baths, so she wears it when bathing. I keep their nails trimmed regularly. (Jan Griffiths).
Does it keep your kitty from biting you? I love how you said: the cat wears it while bathing as if the cat chose to put it on herself. It reminds me of those clear Christmas ornaments. Not one cat looks happy wearing it. I would probably address my cat thinking it's ok to bite me a different way@@douglasgriffiths3534
When my old girl kept getting matted she would hide from me for days so I couldn’t get to her, I resorted to drugging her food to try and get to it but after that time she refused to eat for three days, the groomers around me refused to groom her, and even the vet refused until I finally broke down crying over the phone. I’m never going to go through that again and I’d never judge anyone else with a long haired cat with matting. Especially not ones who drive hours to find anyone who will actually help them.
My solution was "Hair Cut by thousand tiny snips". Basically I had a scissors laying around everywhere I could get the chance and slowly remove the matted hair.
Cats that have long soft hair can get matted in a flash. specially if they get wet. It is often not a sign of neglect, it is just something that happens to long haired cat and many of them do not like the handling needed to fix the problem..
We had to use the entire family to take care of my son's cat. She is the only long-haired kitty in the family that has matting troubles. Two people held her belly-up and the other one had the clippers. She lectured us the entire time but survived without nicks. We couldn't find any groomers in our area that would take a cat.
People get these cats from breeders not understanding the time and care that goes into maintenance. My mon got me 2 Persians when I was 8, needless to say they were always matted. I don’t understand why it’s even legal to breed these animals especially the difficulty they have breathing.
One should be informed before acquiring a long-haired cat that they require combing once a day. Go gently and the cat(s) will love this routine. BTW, I have two Himalayan longhair cats.

It's kind of interesting how chill he is about having his head enclosed in a plastic sphere.
He was pretty damn chill throughout from my experience. Most of the cats I've known would have been howling, wailing and trying to kill her well before the one minute mark.
Really, since the helmet is for everyone's safety, the cat has to put up with it. A smart cat or dog will be cool & let it get done as fast as possible. I see the big air holes in the helmet so kitty is never short of air. Great job.
@Bewusster_Konsum don't be stupid...
My cat goes crazy over a collar, I took his collar off when he was a baby and tried to put a big boy collar on a year later he was trying to take his own head off to get rid of it. This cat was probably more focused on the clippers
@@jerryeberts It is psychologically terrifying from claustrophobia. Who the hell are you to say the cat "has to put up with it"? Perhaps it is NOT worth doing the grooming/shaving of the cat, as beneficial as it is. Don't just assume that in all cases the grooming/shaving is worth the stress.
I made brushing my cat out a part of my morning routine. While sitting on the porcelain throne I brushed my Persian mix every day to keep her from matting. It got to the point she would come into the bathroom with me every time I would go and present her back to me so I could brush her out. Five minutes a day over ten years and she never had a matting problem. Nice way to bond with your pet too before going to work. Short brushing sessions are easier on everybody.
Hope they get his skin and hair straightened out.
I have a rag doll and she will start matting in a mater of a day or two without brushes. She loves getting brushed so much that when I brush my hair I have to alternate between my hair and hers even if I'm using my brush or I get yelled at lol.
Excellent job! This is how to do it. No excuse for matted animals like this one. Pure neglect!
that’s so sweet :)
Me too similar. Mine is Birman though I also owned Persians (pedigreed ones) and exotics. I taught my cats to love brushes and the breeder taught them to love brushing and bath. Every time I say “brush brush”, he comes running even if he’s sleeping. 😂 For us it’s morning and nightly routine. The cats expect to be brushed daily twice a day and they found it rewarding to be brushed. It’s now my dads job to brush him daily that he’s now retired. 😊 They both love it.

A cat wouldn't know that.
Yeah, I've owned several cats and while they'll usually fight the bath, groom etc, if they actually have something like a skin condition that is bothering them, they tend to be a lot more submissive because they know on some level that it's helping them.
That said, I don't think he showed an extreme amount aggression here, that's just how cats express fear and discomfort, but of which he was surely feeling a lot of.

I won’t judge the owners because I remember when my grandpa was dying of cancer and all our time was dedicated to making his last days comfortable we fell behind on dog grooming. I have a long-haired cat who hates being brushed, so I do have great sympathy for Prince's owners, and of course for Prince who must have been very uncomfortable. You have the patience of a saint.
I inherited an 8 year old long haired American Persian from a friend in 1998 (He's my avatar pic). He was not a cuddly cat. He had attitude.
After about 3 years I decided to do a full shave as keeping the mats under control was challenging. Once I did that , his personality changed and he then loved contact. He became a different cat. He even loved getting warm baths.
He lasted another 10 years to 18. He was a gift in my life. Even though I have another rescue now (a Bombay) I still miss him after all these years. Even my friends miss him as he was a legend of a turn-around cat.
RIP Tuko 1990-2008
I have a cat who is a mega floof. I think the mats just hurt so they resist contact. I trim her down every so often and she becomes such a sweet kitty.
We had a little spitfire of a Ragdoll come into our possession. He was matted. He was SO much happier after being shaved but I can tell you he was not even 1/10th how patient our little astronaut above was.
Poor little nugget had the patience of a saint, in cat terms. But one does not simply walk into Mord...I mean one does not simply shave a cat's belly without consequences.
He was certainly giving the camera the eye of Sauron at the end 😂
Never mind the belly, she shaved his _tail._ Poor buddy!
Honestly, for most of this he's being a VERY good boy, considering how short the cat timer can be. Is that thing you put on him designed for cats or something you kitbashed because i've never seen anything like it before and it's HILARIOUS but also probably a lot less panic-inducing than muzzles frequently are for cats.
I don't think you can even fit a muzzle onto that cat, honestly.
You can buy them on the Internet. They are called either Kitten Space Hoods or Bite Space Hoods.
I'm gonna say it's similar to those specially designed cat muzzles which allow them to open their mouths and scream still while being unable to bite. It helps them remain more calm then it their mouthes were forced closed.
Thanks!
Prince was extremely well behaved considering how long you had to shave him. What a handsome boy!😍
I was really surprised too that he tolerated it for that long! One of my cats stress blew her coat after a surgery, and the area around where the doctor's shaved got EXTREMELY matted in only a few days and I was too afraid to brush it in case I tore stitches. I hope Prince comes back once more, I am really curious how he would have taken bathing and stuff. Though I agree, poor thing had enough for that day, he was very patient for a cat.
Beyond that, I think he needs a medicated bath and maybe antibiotics. I hope his owners can follow up with a vet to sort Prince out.
I used to have a beautiful fluffy longhaired cat named Sophie. I brushed her several times a week and did not have to deal with many mats (or furballs). Then I got married and went on a honeymoon; the person who watched her while we were gone for 3 weeks was afraid to brush her and when we came back, she was so matted we had to have her shaved. The only groomers we could find insisted on putting her under for it, so it was an incredibly expensive haircut. It took forever to grow back in and look normal. So yeah, if you have a longhaired cat, staying on top of grooming, getting them used to the brush is essential to avoid sad cats and sad wallets. But sometimes things happen and our fluffballs get matted anyway, despite our best efforts!

Even though my gorgeous long-haired cat, The Muff, is brushed at least twice every day, he still can develop mats. Over the years I've learned that the minute I notice the tiniest little clump, out comes what I call The Grim Reaper, a de-matting comb. The Muff will run and hide if he sees this tool in my hand, so I must resort to a bit of subterfuge in order to approach him. Generally, it will take a tiny little clump and remove it. I'm extremely careful and tender using it, but it must be done, lest my gorgeous, glorious golden boy become as unhappy as poor Prince. Judging from Prince's naked self, a visit to a vet is in order. Hard work. Sorry, sweet Prince!

Her fur was just very silky and if she got mats, they were minimal and she never had to go to the groomer. When my mother in law passed away (long after the other persian I had was gone), I took her cat. When I got her, she was like this guy, because my MiL was too sick at the end to deal with her coat. I took the cat to the vet to get her shaved and I thought that was that. HA. This cat's coat is coarse and she mats up ridiculously fast. So there I was with this cat that grew dreds in like a week and there are VERY FEW cat groomers, even in big cities. It took me quite a while but I finally found a really good cat groomer in my area. Thank god I don't have to drive 2 hours like these poor people do. So yeah, just because you think you know, you really don't. I thought I knew, and I really didn't. Now I do though, lol.
Seriously it can take less than a month.
Same with the French breed, the Greys, (might be called chateraux?)
interesting! I have a German Shepherd so I've never had to deal with matting. I wasn't judging the owners because I could figure something like this happens
Look here see 😁, we don't know everything so judging people on their pets like this is oh so foolish.
We should be aware there is négligence afoot, yet there usually are other factors that weigh in. Thanks for the info about this breed so it can be passed on! 🤘🏾
Yeah. I have 2 husky dogs. They're brother and sister so genetically very similar. The girl has longer fur and is a paler colour. Conventional wisdom says she should be worse for matting but it is her shorter haired, darker furred brother that mats like all heck. She properly sheds leaving fur everywhere but his clings to him and felts. His back legs and rump were shaved when we adopted him and his fur was like a sheepskin rug. Every animal is different so although there are patterns as to which need more grooming there are always exceptions to every rule. Thankfully he has a very gentle temperament so he got fully brushed out rather than shaved and he has not gotten into as sorry a state again in the last 18 months.
@@requisitegold1010 German Shepards don’t really mat cause they are short hair lol
I have a long haired calico, I brush her THREE times a week and SHE STILL GETS MATS. Don't ask me how.. I'll never know. My groomer still needs to work her magic. Great job!
Some cats are just prone to it, even with the best grooming.
I think it’s recommended to brush everyday!
Because brushing does not get the tangles and mats that start at the skin. Combing with a comb starting at the skin is the only way to keep your long haired dog or cat mat free. Brushing should be done for finishing and maintenance. Use a slicker brush to break up small loose mats and tangles before combing to ensure your pet is not in pain.
That’s because long haired cats need brushing once a day or more. My childhood cat was long haired and never got matts bc we brushed him once to three times a day and my parents let him be an outdoor cat (we lived out in the country and I didn’t have a say in it I was only a kid)
@@93djwilliamson it’s recommended by humans, but some cats can’t tolerate it daily.
As someone who has owned three persians in her lifetime, I can testify to how much work they are. It's a daily commitment from kittenhood. If they start young they can even enjoy the brush/comb experience. I think the single tool that saved my last two cats and me so much headache was the furminator. What a godsend for removing the loose undercoat that ends up being the source of the matting. Poor Prince. He's such a doll baby.
Owner of over decade of Persians as well. You have to admit though this is beyond negligence to let it get it get to this point the worst my cat as gotten is 2 matted balls a year during the season she sheds. I just hope the owner has a good reason like elderly and recently sick or something.
@@emacias1473 I agree it seems to me to be more than just a matter of not brushing for a few weeks. My two have gotten half a dozen mats at most in the course of shedding their winter wonder coats. This looks to me like long term neglect but I am glad they trusted Girl With The Dogs to sort this poor puss at last.
my cat has long hair and it took me 1 year to realize he needed the furminator as well. :´)
Yes, and some cats never learn to tolerate combing and brushing, no matter how early you begin. We adopted a 5 week old Himalayan kitten who was hell on wheels when we got her, and only got worse as she got older. We ended up having to do a shave-down just like with Prince, but she had to be put under gas anesthesia. Then from that point on, she had short hair 9 months out of the year, only developing a full coat for the winter. Come spring, it was back to the groomer for her warm weather lion cuts. She still never got tolerant at all and had to be anesthetized every time, but it was always JUST gas, she woke up as soon as the gas was stopped, and we could all tell how much happier she felt with her lion cuts. She would strut like a supermodel as soon as we were through. And I happen to be an experienced vet tech, so I know how to safely comb and brush a cat. Some cats are just not at all willing to allow it, even when their coats are in excellent condition. Of course you have to comb every day with these guys, but when the cat simply freaks out at the sight of the tools, you have to do something else. This cat was the only one of our many cats in our lives who would freak. I think it was a phobia, and she may have also had a sensory issue. All of our other Persians loved to be combed and brushed. Our current Domestic Longhair (Nebelung impostor, LOL!) climbs in my lap to be brushed and combed and even rolls over to let me comb and brush her WHOLE belly. She rolls her paws in the air like making invisible biscuits, and she purrs and ultimately falls asleep while I comb her out. So, it's not that we were neglectful. It was just something going on with that little Persian, and she simply couldn't handle a daily grooming. It happens!
I have persian cat over 15 years and even tho I didn't brushed her for two weeks she had like super small "matt" that I could easily brush off. Looking at the statement of his fur, skin and eyes, this is serious neglect. Propably he eat cheap bad unhealthy food too. If they can't afford to take proper care of an animal, please don't get one. Also brushing take like 5 minutes. It could be done even by elderly or sick people.
He sat well for a kitty. Hopefully his spot can grow back and the hair cut will have him less grumpy!
So sad! I hope he gets regular grooming after this so he NEVER has to go through this again.
With a cat like this, daily brushing would most likely prevent this type of matting. Hope the owners stop being lazy and brush him to prevent this in the future 😭
Quite distressing to watch, even as a non-cat-lover, I have to admire how well he took it.
@@kwilliams5728 unfortunately, since the owners took the cat to a groomers, nothing can be done. The owners made an effort to improve the situation so there is nothing that can be done.
@@monateru1712 Yeah, as much as it is awful, it already happened. There is no point in demonising owners or talking about having them give up the cat. We can hope they start implementing regular grooming for their cat from this point on. Many people do own pets they lack knowledge to raise perfectly, i was the same.
@@l.pmoonstone5067 It's possible that the cat despises brushing and made it too difficult for his owners. Most people are not professional animal groomers and don't know how to deal with an ornery cat.
The state of cat is bad, but in treating owners with politeness, acknowledging they found the situation beyond them, the groomer has let them know they can ask for help more often, they won't end up being verbally bollocked and feel they cannot ask for help.
They will probably feel they can keep the cat in a better state, now that there are no knots and felting to upset the cat. They now know they can get help, any time.
Sometimes, to lecture and berate actually does MORE harm. When the problem returns, they are more reluctant to ask for help. Not every pet owner is competent, or confident or experienced, or aware of so many inventions to prevent bites or slashes
Poor darling...it's great to see that you were able to get him back to a state where he can have his fur grow back nice n healthy. I'm sure his owners were extremely grateful to not only have all that matting removed but to know that their baby was in such kind and caring hands. It's so touching to see how mindful you are of how the animal is feeling, and you've got such a wonderful little rapport that you build with each animal you see. I'm sure that at least eased the treatment for this (kind of understandably) angy boy.

At my house, we call the death daggers “murder mittens”.
Prince is a very good boy. He’s so very patient considering the noise and discomfort. He let it happen for a while. And I really feel terrible for him. So so so much matting.

everyday i’m grateful my long hair cats love to be brushed! i have a 9 year old persian kitty who tends to get matted but i’m brushing her more regularly because we’re going into winter and even though she doesn’t go outside, upstate NY winters can be brutal and i want her to have her long fur, she’s cuter that way too! our other cat didn’t quite understand the brush at first, but now he loves it too and is jealous when our other one gets brushed and comes in to take over and be the one brushed, much to our persian’s dismay, lol

That patch where the fur had already pulled out just broke my heart! :( This is why I make sure to brush my long haired cat many times a week, and use a "rake" comb as well.

I thought so too. Made me wonder if the owners lacked information where they think the cat grooming itself was all that is needed? Or perhaps he would not tolerate combing because it was hurting him. Glad they took action and found a kind groomer to help him out and recognized the severity of the situation!
The owners’ area didn’t have any groomers so they drove for two hours to get here. Plus the cat probably didn’t like getting brushed.

I was in awe of how carefully you handled the shaving, going millimeter by millimeter, always making sure not to hurt the cat. This was amazing to watch. Hats off to you!
I had a beautiful long haired cat as a kid who HATED being brushed, she would attack you and then go and hide for hours if you tried to brush her, she was the sweetest thing otherwise, we ended up doing our best to brush her (with one of my old hairbrushes) but still had to cut out mats and even get her shaved occasionally
I've personally found that if you brush your own hair in front of your pet on a regular basis, and then you attempt to brush them with your own hair brush, they usually accept that surprisingly well. It might not be as effective as a pet brush, but it's certainly better than nothing.
Cats need a specific kind of brush, she probably didn’t like the human brush being used on her, but I’m glad you took care of her coat!!
If you ever have this issue again they make brushes that are in arches that cats love to rub against. My long haired cat hated to be brushed but loved those arches and to self brush.

Hey, I don't Jodie Foster this kind of behavior-
I own a white Persian and definitely high maintenance. I get her shaved in spring and cost $200. 😭 I try to brush her daily but her patience span is 2 minutes. I can’t get to the belly part. And have to clean her eyes every morning too. My daughter picked it and am stuck with grooming. She let me at least trim her nails.
My cat would love to be brushed everyday haha. He's a shorthair tho so doesn't need it.
I have two Persians- my black one has the thickest hair I’ve ever seen. He gets a lion cut every 10-12 weeks. It’s $50. I feel so bad for you- that’s a very expensive shave!
I have 20 years experience with Persians and i would recommend you a Pet- De matting-comb. (The ones with the rounded metal claws) If you start to use it regularly (at least weekly) on her. Best beginning would be, after a shave, when the hair is still short. She will get used to the new tool better and if its not hurting her from the beginning, she will not associate this brush with pain. So later, when the fur grows back, she will accept it better, because shes not afraid of this brush hurting her.. and if she has a knomb it needs a special but simple technique: hold the knod with your fingers close at the roots while combing it with the De-matting comb. Start brushing the tips of the hair-knod first and then slowley work up till the root. So you de-tangle the knod from working from down to up and brushing in small sections (while always holding the root close to her skin). Like this, you can detangle her better and she will not feel the pull on the skin that badly, because this is what they actually hate. The pain of the pulling just hurts them. But if youre doing it gently and with that special tool and this root-technique it will not hurt her that bad and she will get more receptive of getting brushed and it will just take a few minutes.
@@msxy9594 thank you for sharing. It's important for pet owners to remember that our pets might hate the grooming techniques we're using because we're unintentionally making it an uncomfortable experience for them.
My flame point enjoys ONLY the belly brushing, she would let me brush her there all day. The rest is only ok if I don't hit a tangle. One tangle and I get swatted or nipped. 🙄 Luckily combing her out daily has been enough to maintain her coat and not get many tangles, so she at least tolerates me.
“He’s a Rocket Man!” Poor baby. Just saw a sheep shearing that was similar. Hopefully he’ll be healed up and his people can manage the coat now that it’s dematted!
@Mike i'm not a big cat/wild cat expert but i can say that most cats are shorthaired in the wild, even most feral cats i see around are shorthaired. i think of the Male Lion though, but im pretty sure he and his pride groom it to help it from getting matted. Cats are great a grooming and they also groom each other
@Mike same reason sheep need shearing and long haired dogs get matted-we have breed them for that
80 pounds of wool is another level
@@j.w.213 Well, sure, but we bred sheep to make massive amounts of wool which would be terrible for them out in the wild. Naughty Kitty becomes Bobblehead Kitty. Once Kitty got home and had time to chill out, I'm sure he appreciated the haircut.
After just the shock of seeing the cat endure the start so well (must have been nice gentle rubs and then reduced tension in mats?) the TRULY SHOCKING part was that it tolerated having its tail shorn so perfunctorily.
I agree! We had a Persian who lived to be 13 yrs old and one time he became very matted like this one. We thought we were brushing him correctly but all the while he was developing these little mats all in his undercoat. I don’t believe in declawing cats so he was fully armed. Bathing him or trying to get the mats out on our own was impossible. In addition, no vets would take him to groom because he wasn’t declawed and they wanted to put him to sleep to do it. I didn’t like the idea of that and thought it was excessive so we kept searching for someone to take him to. Luckily we found someone but it was about a month or two down the road and by that time his fur was even worse. People don’t realize how quickly this can happen. I just remember taking him to be groomed by a vet we found and crying the entire time they groomed him. From that point on we just kept him in a lion cut.
That's a sad story with a funny ending. At least your a good person.
Sweet & interesting story. Thank you 💖
Thank you for sharing your story. It is validation. We have a long haired cat. I’ve felt guilty getting him shaved. It’s a last resort for a cat who resists combing despite treats and all the suggested techniques. He’s been anesthetized for medical grooming and fortunately we have a wonderful pet groomer who will take care of him while awake. It’s reassuring we are not alone. It’s easier to maintain as it grows back in and there seems to be a tipping point in length of fur when it just starts matting.
Your Persian is beautiful.
Declawing is not just removing the claws, it is de-fingering. They remove the finger(?) up to the first knuckle, and it is unbelievably cruel. It affects the cat in all aspects of its life including walking - and it should be banned in its entirety in my opinion.
declawing is not a religion. it's animal abuse. if you ever come across somebody who thinks- or already has- de-clawed their cat, asked them to look at their fingers. then show then where they cut to "declaw" the cat, which is the whole first phalanx of their finger. Then tell them, cats walk on their toes.
A vet that is adament to cut these sections off is a vet I that should get his head set right. How the fuck can somebody be a vet and appeal to declawing? It's the same level of ridiculousness of having gone through 6-8 years of medical school, and being certificated, and being a anti-vaxxer pro essential oil person!
I'd really love a follow-up on this story, to see how his skinned healed up, etc.
Just move the fuck on and out of the way.
He did really good for a long time!
That probably feels so much better for him, he's probably not so itchy and stressed now 😭 poor baby, I hope it's easier for them to keep up with his maintenance now 🥺❤
I actually think that missing patch is where his matting got stuck to something and tore out. If a large patch of hair gets ripped out, the skin weeps like that.
I always wince when you get an animal with matting that bad…no shade to the owners, just sympathy for the animal. Poor baby…I hope he feels so much better getting all that mess off.
My cat looks almost identical to this one but he attacks with teeth and claws if I try to brush or shave his underside, butt, legs, or tail area. So I can brush his back, head, and neck, but he always ends up with matting everywhere else. Many groomers reject him for being aggressive too, so my only solution is to get a visiting family member to hold his scruff for me while I try to shave the mats every few months 😪
@@ProdavackaDivu Well that's one way to do it, but... you shouldn't hold an adult cat by their scruff, it could lead to internal nerve damage.
@@ProdavackaDivu maybe buy some sort of a muzzle and have someone else holding him down? Split it up to different days.. he must be in agony:( and probably the more matted he gets the more he is likely to let you brush him.
@@brittanylehman5104 you can grab an adult cat's scruff, but you cant pick them up by it, nor can you pull it too hard. It really doesnt take long to brush such a cat, if you do it regularly.. it takes me 5 minutes for my 2 cats, for both of them together. And i can eaven do it while watching tv. They jump on the couch and i just grab the brush.. they eaven turn themselves around when im finished with one side and roll on their back to give me their belly to brush it too. If you brush them regularly, and theyre used to it from small they will enjoy it, as long as you dont hurt them. And they will not have much felt knods, perhaps 1 or 2 very small, loose ones from the size of a pea and you can easily brush them out or cut them off with a rounded safety baby scissor. The cat in the video is in a really bad state.. looks to me, like it wasnt brushed for at least 6 months or longer.
