I was torn between the new air that just dropped and the mini. I ended up ordering the mini just because I did feel I wanted a bit of a bigger screen then my phone but the air and pro versions just seemed massive (probably cause I’m not used to a tablet). This is the perfect tablet to take with you anywhere and perfect for someone that wants to be able to do a bit more processor intensive tasks but is not using it to content create etc. Can’t wait till mine arrives.

Samsung's recent mid-range and flagship tablets have been great so far, but I'll say Apple does satisfy that niche audience that want a powerful and compact tablet that never feels sluggish. I have the Galaxy Tab S7 and it's amazing but I do prefer my older Mini 5 for using while laying in bed or on the couch. Bigger tablets just aren't as comfortable one-handed like these smaller Mini tablets are 🤷Now the original price of this new mini 6 is a bit steep though I'll admit that.

As a person that uses the iPhone Mini this is the perfect tablet to compliment it. If you are using the largest iPhone I imagine the iPad Mini won't make sense to you. Another use case of this iPad would be that is an excellent gaming machine using a PS/XBOX controller. Apple Arcade has improved gaming options in the app store by a lot. Cloud gaming is also amazing on this thing if you have a decent connection. Personally I remote into my PS5 or Steam library and have had playable experiences over LTE in certain areas. It's also worth noting the tablet weighs around the same amount as a Nintendo switch. I do hope we see some specialized gamepads that don't suck for this thing.
Really nice job on the review I’m a little late but… The 64 gig starting is just typical Apple milking taking advantage of its customer base there’s just no other way to say it and I don’t hate Apple because I have to the products but sometimes their business practice really sucks.
I loved by old iPad mini. Especially for reading. Granted I didn't really use it for much else, but I still remember it fondly. The main reason I decided to hang on to the Z Fold 3 is that when opened the screen is the exact same size as that old iPad mini...making or far and away the greatest reading experience on a piece of tech I've ever had, and that's including my Kindle. But for the money I'm sure he iPad mini is a great buy. I just got the Z fold for far cheaper then msrp
This is why I always refer to you for tablet reviews. You use tablets extensively as well, and hence has a lot of input for this. :) This would be a great device for someone on the go. I certainly won't use it because it doesn't fit my workflow (My Tab S7 non-plus is my go-to option for on-the-go productivity and consumption), but my wife, mother or mother-in-law will certainly like something like this.
Speaking of ereaders would be cool if you reviewed some ereaders that are Android based that let you install other book stores (Kobo, Google Play, Kindle, etc.).

I’m not a mini person at all & I feel that this tab isn’t for everyone. You want as much real estate as u can get on a tab at-least (because it’s not a pocketable device any way). I mean for doing “tab stuff” like drawing, taking notes, consuming content, reading & even multitasking. So this is a niche product, especially when iPad Air 4 is at the same price. But then again I’m a person with 13 Pro max & iPad Pro 12.9 & still feel that screen should have been bigger on both LOL. So I guess this is a subjective thing, but still not for me (looks cute though). Cheers!

And I don't own any other Apple products to make having just 1 Apple device worth it. You mentioned my exact reason for getting the iPad mini....I currently still have Samsung Tabs 2 8.0 and I take it everywhere with me. The battery is now starting to get bad and since Samsung hasn't produced an 8 inch tablet since I decided to get the iPad mini because I want the performance. As a bonus I will now be able to access Photoshop for iPad as part of my Adobe Photography package so I can shoot, Import and edit on the go.I will now have access to my complete movie library for both iOS and Google. So I'm really excited about getting this. I'm pretty sure next year they'll update the screen refresh rate, but then again maybe I go for the iPad air ✌🏾
Hi Sted, I still got rhe tab s2 8.0, and I am bummed by the fact that its charging port is iffy, but the fact that it has a 3 gb gb of ram and 32gb storage, which you can still increase by adding a 1 tb sd card shows that in 2015, this was the one to go solution. Samsung did make 8" tablets suc as Tab A or Tab E line (which were mediocre), but I never updated it because of the horrible reviews. Back then, I tried the Galaxy tab 4, the 7" Tablet, and it was bad. So, I was happy with it once. But, Samsung missee the opportunity, and it is no brainer that there is no competition for 8 inch tablets. ipad mini, is clearly winner for now. if Samsung brings refreshed tab s8 mini with S-pen support, it would be so amazing and I dont care if it is pricey. Currently have Tab s7 FE and I love it, but wishing for a more compact tablet with no performance issues.
A nursing student at clinicals had this and used it to take notes. It got right in his pocket. Really nice and convenient while being unobtrusive. But I have Samsung environment so this is useless to me. Wish Samsung had something similar with better quality.

I replaced my galaxy tab a for this device. I loved my Galaxy Tabe and love the portability of it and when I wanted to upgrade I was looking for a similar galaxy but sadly I was unable to find something that fit my needs. I was looking for a tablet mainly for consuming content and I was looking for a tablet that provided a superior screen display and superior sound. Also with a tablet that was around 8.5 inches screen size. Samsung had the Galaxy tab S6 light but it doesn’t compare inspects to the iPad mini 16. That’s why I’m back with an Apple tablet that’s my second one. I previously owned an iPad Pro .
Seen a few reviews for this iPad and feel most of the complaints are super nit picky about minor things like needing two hands to pick up the tablet when on a table.
I thought about upgrading my Note 20 ultra to an iphone and an ipad mini. But the iphone with 512 is $1300 and the ipad mini with 256 and cellular data is $800 with apple giving me $250 for my phone. A total of $1650 after trade in. My Zfold 4 got an educator's discount, $300 on top of that, and $1000 for my Note 20 ultra trade in for a 512 gb Zfold 4. Total ended up at $500 and I can have my mini tab with me at all times. Not to mention it runs circles around the ipad mini.
I too use a Pro for heavy work tasks and the mini for when I want to hold an iPad for long periods. But I have used the Mini since it first came out in addition to a larger sized iPad. I switched to the Pros as soon as they came out but I don’t necessarily upgrade those. I don’t think yearly updates on iPads are for me but I will upgrade when enough significant changes are made, as I like to ride the tech wave when it is good.
Yeah, use my 12.9 pro for editing photos. It's the only reason I really have it. Even used it as my phone for like a year. Got the zfold2 and it fulfills most of my needs. Looking at this as a portable photo editing option. The 12.9 is too heavy to carry in a camera bag for hours while shooting at an event or on a long photo walk where you can't put the bag down and take breaks. This mini would be perfect for whipping out to edit and upload a few photos in the middle of a party and start uploading them or showing off a portfolio without people seeing what's on my phone, then back home to the 12.9pro for the majority of the editing and whatnot.
I’m on the verge of thinking of getting the iPad mini 6 rather than the iPad Air because I don’t use my main iPad (ipad air 2018 hardly at all, my thumb pad broke, due to old age, and I’m getting ready to go to back to school. I remember that in college the desk are a lot smaller and I really want to go paperless this year as much as I can and carry a lot less. Since my shoulder does hurt and I have a weak back. So I think that the iPad mini might be a perfect device for me in that regard. Im just so indecisive with everything 😂😅
I was waiting specifically for this iPad mini to replace my old iPad 4, to be able to carry it around. And the phone's 6,5 inch display is still considerably smaller. So, for me it is perfect - considerably bigger than my IPhone Max Pro and small enough to be carried around in my handbag to use during long commute etc.

Everyone saying you can grip it with one hand is a little off. Yes most men can do it with some stretching. I suppose some women with larger hands can too but smaller handed people would really struggle to do so if at all. Only basketball players can do this easily.

I too use a Pro for heavy work tasks and the mini for when I want to hold an iPad for long periods. But I have used the Mini since it first came out in addition to a larger sized iPad. I switched to the Pros as soon as they came out but I don’t necessarily upgrade those. I don’t think yearly updates on iPads are for me but I will upgrade when enough significant changes are made, as I like to ride the tech wave when it is good.

Yeah, use my 12.9 pro for editing photos. It's the only reason I really have it. Even used it as my phone for like a year. Got the zfold2 and it fulfills most of my needs. Looking at this as a portable photo editing option. The 12.9 is too heavy to carry in a camera bag for hours while shooting at an event or on a long photo walk where you can't put the bag down and take breaks. This mini would be perfect for whipping out to edit and upload a few photos in the middle of a party and start uploading them or showing off a portfolio without people seeing what's on my phone, then back home to the 12.9pro for the majority of the editing and whatnot.
I’m on the verge of thinking of getting the iPad mini 6 rather than the iPad Air because I don’t use my main iPad (ipad air 2018 hardly at all, my thumb pad broke, due to old age, and I’m getting ready to go to back to school. I remember that in college the desk are a lot smaller and I really want to go paperless this year as much as I can and carry a lot less. Since my shoulder does hurt and I have a weak back. So I think that the iPad mini might be a perfect device for me in that regard. Im just so indecisive with everything 😂😅
I was waiting specifically for this iPad mini to replace my old iPad 4, to be able to carry it around. And the phone's 6,5 inch display is still considerably smaller. So, for me it is perfect - considerably bigger than my IPhone Max Pro and small enough to be carried around in my handbag to use during long commute etc.
hey, I also have iphone pro max and wondering if getting an ipad mini wouldnt be getting pretty much the same thing, is screen size difference really that much noticeable in daily usage?

Everyone saying you can grip it with one hand is a little off. Yes most men can do it with some stretching. I suppose some women with larger hands can too but smaller handed people would really struggle to do so if at all. Only basketball players can do this easily.
ipad air or just ditch it and get the mini which one should I get? And do i really need wifi + cellular? I really only need a ipad for watching anime lmao as well as college, travelling, and using it for notes. I really like the mini kinda leaning towards it. But i need an opinion.
