Thanks man! I'll add that SwiftKey has a numbers bar on top, similar to Android screens, which minimises flicking back and forth. The crap keyboard is one of the biggest bugbears for me.
I’ve used Paperlike for years and can definitely say it makes a HUGE impact on the display but it is very handy for note-taking if that’s more important than media
@@PatrickRambles And for HD photos on occasion I actually prefer that effect it gives. Makes things look like you’re actually holding paper. Really neat.
I have a lot of birthday money and im getting the new MacBook Pro if it gets revealed later this year. Is it worth it to get an iPad mini 6 as well or should I just get one or the other. I’m using the Mac for school, movie/show watching, and UA-cam. I’m using the iPad for the same things but use it as a camera for making UA-cam videos as well. I also want the iPad to stay by my bed when I’m not using it in case I’m in bed and too lazy to go get the MacBook if I leave it in the office. Also it’s nice to have 2 devices like that in case one gets lost stolen or broken. Is so dated, so "I-have-another-camera-and-can't-live-with-a long-headshot-in-my-videos-without-cuting-to-other-angle-that-shows-exactly-what-was-in-the-previous-shot-minus-the-eye-contact". Keep it simple. Your videos are great, don't create noise. Thanks for your effort!
Hey Gustavo, no worries mate, a little criticism doesn't hurt. I know the angles are not for everyone, some love it, some hate it. I use them for a number of reasons but who knows, I might change styles again 🤷♂️.
No it just record as soon as you hit the button. I think that's the power of this app, no messing around with settings "just press record". Would be a cool stealth move though to remotely record 😅
I totally agree on the Paperlike screen protector. I had an older spare from my iPad Pro and cut it to fit until the regular gets shipped. It does the trick ;-) I use Notability as well and really, really like it on the small iPad Mini 6. Besides that I enjoy the Kindle app, as the Mini 6 is a good size for an eBook reader. The new Mini 6 became my go-to when I'm out and about.
@@PatrickRambles haha, well said. I actually traded it against my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9" because for my daily use the Pro got too big for me. It was quiet a change, but the longer I use it, the more I like it. Wish it would be available in 512GB
I feel like Apple does this purposely. They cripple their devices in certain ways, so as to not cannibalize the rest of their lineup. They wat us to buy them all 😅
Sometimes I can’t clearly make out what app name you’re saying or I’m unsure as to which one it is while searching the App Store. Maybe an app icon somewhere in the video with the name so there is no ambiguity as to exactly the app you’re talking about.
Another great video, Patrick! Thanks for the app suggestions. I will likely be using some of those after checking them out. I’m undecided on the Apple Pencil, as I’m not really the creative type with handwriting or drawing. I’ll probably be picking up the mini 6 next month, as my 5-6 year old mini 4 is getting a bit long in the tooth re: battery life.
I'm trying to see if I have some of your apps showcased here have a worthy place in my *little tiny storage* app list. Anyway, I hope you'll address the chunky border gap on it too with your final review. I'm getting some thoughts also to some users about their reactions to it.
@@PatrickRambles yeah 128GB is the standard now in these types of iPads with USB-C. What I mean and suggest is your thoughts on how big and chunky the left and right borders on the iPadOS 15 for iPad Mini especially in Portrait mode. Because mine is CHUNKY AF.
Yes true. I think the mini came as somewhat of a surprise to many developers so it will take a minute for them to optimize their apps. Even iPadOS isn't fully optimized for the mini yet. Give it time.
@@lijinping yeah definitely a tradeoff in that regard. I'm not much of a gamer so for me it's not an issue. Heard they're working on a version 3.0 which should further reduce the grain.
Just never have been able to love either notability or goodnotes. Have tried them both but for serious note taking I always end up back with OneNote. I do like apple notes for casual notes or temporary notes but OneNote is my BAE for notetaking. I did hear about Just Press Record recently and I LOVE IT! Voice notes never worked for me becuase it won't transcribe but JPR is great for if I need to take a quick note when I'm driving or otherwise not able to type or handwrite...I use it to capture those wild ideas that pop into my head but will be GONE if I wait until it's convenient to jot them down the old fashioned way.
Really wish you would add the app names to the description. Sometimes when you have the name on screen I miss it and sometimes you don't even put it on screen.
Patrick, great video. How will you be using this in collaboration with your iPad Pro? Clearly, there are different, yet parallel use cases that compliment one another. Honestly, I need some arguments to convince the Mrs. that it's a good addition to the workflow (Business, some creative (picture and video editing, LOTS of note taking, etc.). Let me know what you (and other folks think). Cheers!
Oh man, convincing the Mrs. is a struggle haha. This is the tablet nobody needs and everyone wants. My excuse is this tech channel but I'd have a hard time explaining why I'd be keeping this and my ipad pro, other than I just pick this up more for everyday tasks. The iPad Pro is the work horse. I don't know that this sounds very convincing but I guess it's worth a shot 😅
Great review! I'm now convinced that all I need is the mini ! I was thinking that the pro m2 was my best option, until I watched your devastating review. Thanks Patrick!
I forgot who in Apple said it but they did cleared up that the iPad didn’t launched with a calculator because Steve didn’t liked how the first tests looked ridiculous being a gigant version of the iPhone’s native calculator app, they meant to be working on a more aesthetically/functionally design for later releases but apparently they never really came around it so they just abandoned it as they figured people with an iPad already own a cellphone to “calculate” with.
Yes that's the original back story and I believe it. But are we really supposed to believe that the self-proclaimed most innovative tech company hasn't been able to figure out a better UI for a calculator?
@@PatrickRambles do you think is smarter to wait for the next Pro iPad than getting one now this Fall?! do you think they make like an Air Pro with Thunderbolt?! 😇😀
There is always a better model on the horizon 😅. If you need one now, get one now, is always my advice (except of course if we are two weeks away from the launch of said new model). I'm not sure whether Apple would bring TB to the air. It's possible, but it would become even more difficult to distinguish the pro from the rest of the lineup
@@SimplicityForGood ik im not him, but im gonna agree with him as well. If it’s a need, that you need a device rn, don’t wait. There’s ALWAYS something coming out after the new one comes out. You’ll be waiting forever. If you plan on doing long term/large work you should maybe get the bigger ipads. There’s the 9th gen at the lowest with first gen apple pencil, ipad air 4 with the modern design and colors, and the current M1 pro’s at 11” and 12.9”. The mini is more like a notepad for shorter smaller work, book reading and media.

Wish I can replace that quick note feature with new app
Don't you like it?
loved this bro! That calculator is calling my name
Thanks Dude! How ridiculous tho...
Someone mentioned in a review that while scrolling in portrait mode, 60 hertz display in mini looks slow, while in a land scape mode, it works just fine. Do you have noticed a difference?
2) Is there a night mode available in back camera in mini🙂
Yeah the infamous jelly scrolling. It's not a big deal, comes with the territory of 60hz. It's noticeable but barely.
What about Matte tempered Glass
Personally that's still too "hard" for me. Paperlike ads a certain softness to it which I find pleasant for writing.
Thanks man! I'll add that SwiftKey has a numbers bar on top, similar to Android screens, which minimises flicking back and forth. The crap keyboard is one of the biggest bugbears for me.
Exactly. SwiftKey has been one of the only constants for me, switching between devices and platforms.
I have a problem in an app the split screen three dots opens over an icon I need to use in the app can the split screen be turned off
Hm I'm not sure but I don't think so.
Where the stand from? @patrick
OMG video quality is really good 👏👏👏
Thank you :)
I’ve used Paperlike for years and can definitely say it makes a HUGE impact on the display but it is very handy for note-taking if that’s more important than media
Exactly. Duller screen but much better friction.
@@PatrickRambles And for HD photos on occasion I actually prefer that effect it gives. Makes things look like you’re actually holding paper. Really neat.
I like the no fingerprints part :)
Also the mini is 8.3 inches and the new macs are reported to be 14 inches so the mini would be better for travelling and actually bringing to school
Edit: I’ll be using the Mac to edit videos on
These two devices definitely don't replace one another, the iPad mini is a great companion device though 👌
Just ran across your channel; great recommendations! I am not tech savvy and I usually have to ask kids for advice, at least now I can cut down on some of my questions. As a new subscriber, I am looking forward to more great tips and advice.
Thank you Earl! I'm glad it was useful :)
Best ipad for in bed use. Watching videos. Reading books, news. Size is perfect.
Yes!
Hey mate, nice job with the tips, but that second camera is sooooo uncaled for.
Sorry If I was too harsh, but I do love your work Patrick, and it helps me a lot. Thanks
Hey Gustavo, no worries mate, a little criticism doesn't hurt. I know the angles are not for everyone, some love it, some hate it. I use them for a number of reasons but who knows, I might change styles again 🤷♂️.
Does that recording app let you start from watch but record from phone?
It actually records from the watch when you press record there. Or are you asking whether it has the option to start the phone instead?
@@PatrickRambles On the watch, can I start a recording via the mics on the phone?
No it just record as soon as you hit the button. I think that's the power of this app, no messing around with settings "just press record". Would be a cool stealth move though to remotely record 😅
I totally agree on the Paperlike screen protector. I had an older spare from my iPad Pro and cut it to fit until the regular gets shipped. It does the trick ;-)
I use Notability as well and really, really like it on the small iPad Mini 6. Besides that I enjoy the Kindle app, as the Mini 6 is a good size for an eBook reader.
The new Mini 6 became my go-to when I'm out and about.
Exactly! It's the nimble companion we didn't know we needed 😅
They wat us to buy them all 😅
Does it degrade the Apple Pencil tip over time?🤔
@@albertomartin70 apparently it does
What colour does your iPad have? Is that the rose one?
Yeah, Starlight.
@@PatrickRambles thank you
Any recommendation on a video editing app for the mini?
Luma Fusion is the best one available I'd say.
What is the stand that lays flat that you are using? Thanks.
Hi Tim, here you go : Twelve South Compass Pro - geni.us/jLQjpqF
@@PatrickRambles Thank you!
@@thitt1683 any time!
Sometimes I can’t clearly make out what app name you’re saying or I’m unsure as to which one it is while searching the App Store. Maybe an app icon somewhere in the video with the name so there is no ambiguity as to exactly the app you’re talking about.
Noted 📝
Awesome suggestions dude!
Thanks for stopping by man!
Thanks! I like the apple pencil a lot but I already had one for my ipad pro, so I'm just using one pencil for both.
Very very good presentation. I’m from the iPad Pro world and looking for a change. Maybe now i will!
Thanks Seamus! Appreciate it :)
I really appreciate your content. Keep up The Good work.
Thanks, David! Much appreciated 🙌
I'm using what the font since 2020. It's a nice app.
I'm trying to see if I have some of your apps showcased here have a worthy place in my *little tiny storage* app list.
Anyway, I hope you'll address the chunky border gap on it too with your final review. I'm getting some thoughts also to some users about their reactions to it.
Oh I've already been very clear about how I feel regarding the storage situation 😅
@@PatrickRambles yeah 128GB is the standard now in these types of iPads with USB-C. What I mean and suggest is your thoughts on how big and chunky the left and right borders on the iPadOS 15 for iPad Mini especially in Portrait mode. Because mine is CHUNKY AF.
paperlike eats threw the apple pencils point so if you like spending money over and over again to replace the point on you pencil have fun.
I've heard that several time now. I'm still on my very first pencil tip. Are you an artist?
Love this video! Awesome app selection 🔥
Thanks dude!!
Some apps are not optimised for ipad mini. It came out small as if for mobile version.
Yes true. I think the mini came as somewhat of a surprise to many developers so it will take a minute for them to optimize their apps. Even iPadOS isn't fully optimized for the mini yet. Give it time.
Just press record is the sleeper hit here. Good video!
Thanks, Mike!
Hi. What do you think about the jelly scroll issue?
It's a non issue. A common occurrance in 60hz screens, blown out of proportion imo.
How much is the iPad mine?
In Ipad mini -> They should have included Lidar Scanner for using AR apps , face id , even if increased the price , could be more worth to buy it.
with paperlike protector, my mini is no longer friendly for fps gaming anymore...it's painful.
Too grainy?
@@PatrickRambles yeah, right.
Hey! Yeah OneNote has a solid user base. Sara Dietschy loves it.
@@PatrickRambles She does! She's another of my fave tech youtubers! You guys keep me in the know! Thanks!
I'm honored 🙂
Really wish you would add the app names to the description. Sometimes when you have the name on screen I miss it and sometimes you don't even put it on screen.
Noted, and will do!
Thanks. Very useful.
I appreciate it!
let me know what do u think about the jelly effect on ipad mini6.
Video in 2.5 hours from now ;)
@@PatrickRambles thanks for your reply
my friend you speak too fast I cannot take notes. What is the application with the red circle like a dictaphone??thanks
It's called Just Press Record :)
I completely forgot iPad was a thing. Got a 12 pro max for the size. But now I want an iPad for productivity and the regular size iPhone instead :/
I know what you mean. I've been back and forth between sizes myself 😅. The iPad mini is definitely the funnest iPad to use imo.
Very good app selection Patrick 😎💯🇮🇪
Thanks Mary!
Just found your channel but like your style and recommendations. Subscribed 👍
Thanks, Mark! Appreciate it 🙂
I must have missed them but great job !
Thanks, Brett!
your telling us about these great apps but you don't list them??
I can’t find this thing anywhere
What thing?
Windows iTunes doesn’t recognize my iPad mini 6. ☹️
This might be a silly question but have you tried updating iTunes and the iPadOS?
@@PatrickRambles I’m using iOS 15. Latest version of iTunes is what I have as well
Hm. Not sure what else you could do then. I'm not a windows user myself, so probably not the best person to advise you.
@@PatrickRambles thanks for trying. Funny thing is my pc recognizes all of you older apple devices
@@davidnguyen3275 super weird indeed.
I’m in sales, I’ll figure it out. 😉
How i get the animated fruit?
It's on the Telegram app, just enter a fruit emoji and watch the magic happen 😏
@@PatrickRambles hmm i read apple has stoped the fruits ( in germany) 🙄🤣
That one needs explaining 😅
Got mine this week loving it
It's so fun! I'll follow this video up with some more cool apps from time to time.
Great review! I'm now convinced that all I need is the mini ! I was thinking that the pro m2 was my best option, until I watched your devastating review. Thanks Patrick!
I was wondering, the mini6 made for who?
Hi Peter, I tried to address that in this video : ua-cam.com/video/w1dBQWOxYUU/v-deo.html
What desk stand are you using for the Mini? Good video!
Thanks! It's the Compass Pro by Twelve South geni.us/jLQjpqF

Thanks!
@@PatrickRambles I just got my new iPad mini today and this was the first video I watched🤩
Cool 😁. Lots of iPad mini content on the channel!
Great video again Patrick.

@@PatrickRambles Apple Explained: Why The iPad Doesn't Have A Calculator ua-cam.com/video/WK_AtW66XI0/v-deo.html
Hi Emily, yeah this is the story. But that does explain why they STILL haven't veen able to make it work.
I cannot choose between the big Pro and the little Mini!? 🤷🏼♂️...
Tough choice! I'd say it depends entirely on what you plan to use it for.
Nice video helped me a lot!
Thanks!
Great content. Keep it up dude!
