good luck fixing this I am unable to play any Rockstar game this can't be fixed I have done literally everything even a clean install on my computer multiple times and still cannot play any Rockstar game.

When you install the launcher, direct it to install inside the Red Dead Redemption 2 installation folder. Not just the Rockstar Games folder. Ex., C: Programs>Rockstar Games>Red Dead Redemption 2. This worked for me.

I know what went wrong for me. I wanted to play with another account on which I hadn't bought GTA V. Your account is linked to your GTA files, and you cannot play with another account without GTA.
If they call the function "SCAN", well it should really scan disks no matter what folder the games might be installed on. Why would it need a specific path name, and even if finding it under that folder name, then still why would it need to download 88+ GB of data????? This is simply terribly programming, showing also absolute disregard for users bandwidth.

@@cqp9501 Only 2 things are the culprits here, i had the same issues few days back, resolved by following the 2 methods. 1) Graphic drivers are not the latest....update them to latest. 2) Install fresh rockstar game launcher and launch the game from the newly installed launcher.

3 years later and RockStar still suck so badly that you can't chose the install folder if you have copied the game from another hard drive. Pathetic game developers. Amateurs.
If anyone has the issue that you cannot launch the game from rockstar games, move the GTAV.exe into the drive and move the rockstar launcher into the same drive, don't put it into a random folder, now it should work
I installed on an external and installed the launcher into the same file when I open the folder and go to launcher and it opens the option to buy GTA 5 it where you are syncing around the 3:30 mark of the video says "This feature is not available right now"

If you have installed the Rockstar game launcher in the standard path, just open a powershell as administrator and run this command ... New-Item -ItemType SymbolicLink -Path "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V" -Target "E:\whateverisyourgame\GTAV" ... remeber to change this last parameter to the path of your game. after that restart the Launcher... it should add the game in your collection... much easier and fast

This fixed it for me!! I did a format on my computer because of a virus but I only did a format on my C drive and the E drive with all my games was there so was gta but I couldnt install gta... this solution made my day thank you

Thanks mate, first workaround, well, worked like a charm :D Ouu although I want to add that I didn't have a "Launcher" folder inside of the "Grand Theft Auto V" folder. Simply creating that folder and then selecting it for the installation location worked perfectly. (Just in case it doesn't work for someine without doing this)

This usually happens because of your out of dated graphic drivers, try updating them to latest version, it should solve the issue

It's still showing the BUY NOW button. Pop up showed that we added it to your library but the button said buy now.
