Yep if you remove the battery you cut the power to the phone and it cant be tracked. All phones now have build it batteries that can not be removed. Simply powering down you phone does nothing and it can still be tracked because it is still receiving power.

This should be the new trend. Removable battery? Heck yeah. Privacy options? Take my money 🔥🔥🔥
I agree.
A phone like this is quite smart, it builds in pretty well all the features people looking for privacy are looking for coupled with a removable (and thus exchangable) battery?! Sold. Keeping two of those spare batteries charged is easier than carting around a 20,000mAh battery pack. I was floored by the switches for cutting out bluetooth, wifi, and the camera - always wondered how Google knew my travel habits while my phone was in airplane mode... because it's not really. I've also seen Windows and Apple devices boot up Wifi to "check" or even download OS updates when the device was not connected to Wifi. The loss of creature comfort apps is probably its largest hindrance. Price is subjective, and those who are privacy minded will find a way to pay for it. The middle-ground option certainly seems like the easiest and widely available course of action. Apple has been using sandbox environments to protect from malware and such, why can't deGoogled Android do much the same when it comes to using Google services like Maps? Not a programmer, don't know... but seems like a shoe-in.
I'm not using my phone more than to call and text pretty much, and I'm not in the loop at all about phones. The Last time I bought a phone was around 2008. I had no idea that batteries wasn't removable anymore! When did this happen? My friend gave me his old Samsung Galaxy S5 that I'm using now when my other phone died. I miss the keys though, I don't like touchscreen.
This reminds me of Thinkpad features like wifi on/off switch and webcam sliding shutter.

@Edmond Schwab it's a bit more complicated. Linux isn't technically in any way derived from UNIX (as in the original UNIX operating system), it just uses similar interfaces and as compatible to the POSIX standard. Most people would call it unix-oid or *NIX/UN*X. macOS is similarly not really derived from it, though as I understand it shares a considerably closer relationship to UNIX (and it's not really related to Linux at all beyond that common inspiration).

Worth noting that Linux (along with the PostmarketOS project) will allow the lifespan of an android device to extend until it physically breaks.
That being said, Librem 5 has a different ethos to the Linux philosophy. (the same could be said about the Pinephone) basically allowing developers to grow the software and improve open hardware. Once it's mature, these phones can be environmentally friendlier.

I am so glad I ran into this video. The flaw of the open source phones are the users, not the service providers of the phone.
People don’t often work for their own security and privacy through a linux distro as they are provided service through Apple and Windows and Google.
Coding to a lot of people is the equivalent to math and writing and reading and learning another language.
But that’s the challenge that we have to face if we are the ones to give service to ourselves in an open source community and share our own codes to others to boost security, applications and settings and even connectivity from our computers to another device.
The more people learn to code for themselves and provide their own data from their computers to their phones, tablets and even TVs and other computers, we wouldn’t need to be baby fed the same formula from Big Tech giants.

we have to remember, at least the older of us, that android started as a wonderful open source project totally dedicated to Linux. The huge acceptance from the user started the idea of marketing data mining... so romantic idea back then.
@TP-Force Google made some closed source software for Android, they do not own Android it is still open source. You are free to dig up or compile your own version for your phone. Works like any other Linux distro.
@TP-Force There exist Linux tools for making an Android distro for PC and few phones and the Raspberry pi aswell. The problem is that phones don't use standardized hardware so likely no Android driver exist for parts of your phone and often the manufacturer, put in bootloader locks. However on the phones where it has worked, there are distros which can just be installed. A good place to look is the "Cyanogenmod", which uses a custom kernel and all other parts can be chosen, so you can opt out of all Google software if you like. I did this to a Huawei Y5 some time ago and besides having 4.8GB free of 6GB memory, as there was no background services, standby time was 16 days on a charge, but I needed to install apps as .APK files without a playstore, but the phone was faster than an octacore high end phone.
@@Tore_Lund nah google literally owns android.
@@Tounguepunchfartbox nope they dont they only own their services but not android itself this is also the reason why huawei phones still run android even though they are banned from doing business with us companies because they literally dont have to do business with google inorder to get android because it is open source
@@Tore_Lund You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Google owns Android, but it's still open source. Android has nothing to do with XDA.
Edit: I just wanted to elaborate. Android is a project created and maintained by Android, Inc. which was aquired by Google, LLC. I'm not sure if Android, Inc. is still a thing or if Android is now provided directly by Google. Anyway, Android is developed primarily by Google employees, but there is some code written by AOSP contributers. AOSP contains no Google products/services, but Google services are normally pre-installed along with any manufacturer specific bloat ware. Android is not like "any other Linux distro". It uses the Linux kernel and that's about it.
Hopefully this will be a thing one day. i am pissed off when devices are doing whatever they want nowadays. Windows self updating, androing doing whatever (i bet they are even listening), whole android splatted all over with ads.
That is exactly why we need to create open source code for the most of the services we are used to.
We have to make them interoperable, in the way DNS is descentralized and a federation.

2:34 "Open sauce" and shows him opening a ketchup bottom, is very underrated
Is he using Soure and Sauce as the same word? Also, how is Ketchup a sauce???
@@evilmansin a.k.a tomato sauce if you didn't know 🤣

Nice video one small detail tho the "i" in Linux is pronounced like the First I in information not like the i in ice cream. The reason us ( As I'm shore you knew) Linux was originally made by a Fin ( Linus Torvalds) and that is the way they pronounce I in finland ( well probably a tiny bit different but thats the way I've heard hime say it on several videos so I'll go with that). Hmm linux desktop you say, so ( out if the box) dise it run x11 if wayland.
Linux: "Arun never told you what happened to your father."
Android: "He told me enough! He told me you killed him!"
Linux: "No. I am your father.
Android: "No...No...Nooooooo"
You forget about iOS.
That's impossible!
Nice one
@John Do lmao why??? Personally I like the IOS, it’s smooth simple and easy to use, and less RAM hungry and I like the design of the OS personal opinions buddy
@@wolfbrave4866 IOS derives from BSD
"whose going to do to it without incentive or pay?" welcome to the linux community kid, its what we do!
Yes, but it's not nearly as large as the Android or Apple crowd..
But it can take a while
Nop. Many development Slow like turtle. Sorry but is the truth.
Tor and signal are open source.
@@Adrien_broner signal was open source
Honestly the thought is there, the idea is there, but the problem is that this phone is not comfortable compared to what iOS and Android has so you kind gotta choose do you want comfort over privacy or privacy over comfort.
Personally I'd rather go with privacy. Because these advertisers also know your address, number emails, ssn, date of birth. Ect. Not only should that concern you. however thousands of malware attacks happen every year. What's to stop someone from clipping and advertising company and holding your data hostage or selling it on the dark market
@@RadioStation-hn6or you make a good point there
Fixed bugs overnight, they said. I still have a Canon printer that I could not used under Linux over the past 4 years. 2 years ago I stopped trying to fix the driver issue.

I've never heard anybody pronounce "Linux" the way he does.

Yup it weird XD
I thought that was how youre supposed to pronounce it
I remember when this phone concept first came out the idea was that it was only going be around $200-300..
Also reminds me of when One Plus came out with their first Flagship phone and promised their branding to be all the hardware without the price. Their first phone had the power of a $900 Samsung phone for $450.. That moto didn't last long..
As you can tell from the comment section, people are ready to throw big dollars for stuff they should be given by default. Privacy and repair-friendly phones.
But hey, shall we blame the companies? Look at them all, they all threw their 800bucks for a phone with the same feature as the first 5 iPhones... Except that the first 5 iPhones are below 100bucks... And easily repairable...
It's just pure comedy by this point. You should bookmark this, so whenever you feel bad, you can just come and read about those people who got scammed the heck out of themselves lol. That's what I've been doing.
Nice accent, nice review and a gorgeous guy!🙃
