    I've learned multiple times not to freak yourself out from a google search. So many vehicle problems I've had have led to down an internet diagnostics path that would mean major repairs based on the issue from other owners. But I've never had it actually be anything major. Even the time I had a low oil pressure light it turned out to be because the sensor was loose where it screwed into the block. The worst thing I've ever had to do repair wise was a water pump on a 80's Lincoln and that was after several years of ownership. Still not a terrible job.

    Something like that happened to my car:
    Bought a 2004 Leon Cupra R last year and after a month the ESP light came on 1-2 per month. My cheap OBD scanner couldnt access the ABS/ESP control unit so I went to a shop (a good one mind you) to have the error code read out. They told that they only got the code, but the diagnose system told them that it was an unknown error; they told me that they need to look at the wiring and check the ABS/ESP control unit and mabye swap it out. I went out of the shop and began looking up the error online. Turns out it was a 17€ brake light switch causing the error...

    I bought a 1984 M-B 300D diesel for $400 just for the engine to swap into my 1985. It supposedly had a "broken frame" after being stolen and wrecked, which had been repaired but broke again so the owner gave up. I found it wasn't that bad, just the bracket where the front lower-control arm pivot attaches had cracked. I welded it back and added a strap, as my first time welding, using my $90 Harbor Freight flux-core wire. I ended up finding another engine for my 1985 (great find $300 w/ starter, compression like new). The shop's weld repairs at the upper K-frame later broke when my son was parking it. They hadn't removed enough stuff to get in there and weld properly. I also welded in an L-bracket to make it stronger than new, and later improved the other side when I had the turbo off. So, I went from a 1985 300D w/ failed engine to 2 working cars and spare parts (not cheap nor easy finds for old M-B), for only $700.

    Solid video. When I was car shopping for a V8 sedan (had that itch) for a daily, I considered a C63 sedan as well as a E90 M3 & RS4. I wasn’t aware of these issues the 6.2 had, but I just know I didn’t want to deal with maintaining an AMG car assuming they were not reliable.
    Ultimately I ended up purchasing a ‘11 ISF. That said the other 3; RS4, e90 M3 & C63 are still on my to own list.

    I bought a 1972 Audi 80 (Fox in America) for $500 in 1979. The owner was a friend and the day it refuse to start, he told me 'half price' as he wanted a thousand. He knew nothing about cars and the service was very expensive, he had no appetite to spend money on it. I took the deal, bought a battery charger, tightened the alternator belt and enjoyed the car for a few years. First front wheel drive car that I ever drove and I was hooked on the performance

      Perhaps he tried to drive/treat his AMG like it's a corvette? The straight exhaust on this car is a perfect example..
      Also I'm amazed at how many owners try to cut corners on these cars. They MUST be serviced by knowledgeable mechanics using factory spec fluids and parts and I always let mine warm up for a couple minutes.

    • @PaulMEdwards
      @PaulMEdwards 5 років тому

      @@Alvan81 my neighbor knows how to treat, maintain, and improve his vehicles. He literally grew up in professional racing as the son of a crew chief and later a mechanic on a racing team running Corvettes and other LS based racing cars. His wife's AMG is well maintained and trouble free. His point, rightly stated, is simply that it costs more money to maintain an AMG vehicle vs. a Corvette or other LS-based vehicle and when an AMG does have failures, they're often the expensive variety.

    Kentucky has various climates. The smoke upon start up was probably humid air which naturally accumulates as water within the exhaust system on a daily basis and "smokes" for a few seconds as the teaspoon of water inside the system is ejected as "fog" upon warm up. NOT SMOKE...
