This was a really crazy time. Glad the economy recovered so well. I don't like how high some interest rates are getting but it does take a lot more qualification to get an exotic car loan. Back when I was in college starting the rental company, you could use stated income loans to buy supercars.

While it's fun to point and laugh at the rappers, there was a lot more going on in the mid to late 2000s. The biggest thing that fueled it was how unbelievably easy credit was to get, thanks to the housing market. And, when the housing market fell, it cut the legs out from under all lending.
As far as why Rappers seem to get into trouble isn't anything specifically with that part of the music industry or the music industry itself. It's more a case of the Suddenly Rich. For people who never had money before, suddenly having money suddenly gives them so many more ways to financially hang themselves than they had before. (And a whole new set of friends who will gladly slip the rope over your neck and give the chair a swift kick.) It's why the NFL and many state lottery organizations have classes to teach about the pitfalls of their newfound wealth.

9/7/17 My first ever football game, JV, Freshman year. I broke my left tib and fib in half on the eighth play of the game. I had a rod and four screws put into the center of my tib. Didn't walk for over two months. They said it would take over a year for my strength to come back. By the middle of march I was back to my squat pr, two weeks later I beat it by 20lbs squatting 405. My deadlift is still yet to come back, the reasoning being the muscle on the left side of my back were not strong enough to maintain to correct position, I ended up tearing up my low back as I wasn't aware of my failure to show correct technique till I got with a coach. So the imbalances will be there, but the muscle comes back fast. Yall's videos helped me through my recovery time, so I send my best wishes to you. God bless.

Some very aggressive finance companies can lend 160% LTV on some real dog shit cars. 99.999% of all cars are depreciating assets, but during 2008-2012 you could say the used car market witnessed a hyper inflation. Due to over supply and lack of demand. Driving used car prices even lower. All I have to say is many companies and especially credit unions are repeating some similar lending practices.

I can't even begin to fathom making 'house payment type payments' ($750-$3000 per month) to 'partially own' a vehicle. It boggles my mind when I hear of anyone earning at least $1 million+ per year having to declare bankruptcy due to inability to stay current on... *OUTSTANDING CAR LOANS!*

In 2008 the economy tanked, he passed away, and I found myself unemployed. That bit of advice came in very handy. I never lost the car, and It took me a year and a half but I got caught up on my mortgage. My credit is still bruised from that beating, but it's getting better every day.

funny Lambo story: In 2006 there was a dent repair vendor at our lot and a customer of theirs had their 19yr old son bring down a bright orange Diablo to get a dent repaired. The owner had just bought it off Busta Rhymes (had flipmode squad stitched in the head rest). One of the salesmen at our dealership talked to kid in to taking him for a ride. Well, from what I heard, the diablo was an AWD car but Busta has it converted to RWD (cant confirm this for sure). Anyway, the kid showed off and went sideways 3 times before going head first into a tree and wrecked the car. (I still have pics). The owner apparently hadn't even insured the car yet.. I still remember seeing the owner come ripping around the corner in a Z06, and the look on that kids face was pure terror... Never seen a beautiful car destroyed so quickly.

I ran a sales Dept at a repo lot in Portland Oregon in 07-08.
Great times! Made a boat load of money off idiots who don't understand the term "live within your means".
Contractors who spent 10 on lift kits for thier work trucks, realestate agents with 90k suvs , young kids with Mom co signing on a 40k sports car and the regular drug addicts and drunks were the usual customers.
Every once in a while we get a wild story.
Back robber gets cought in a car he owed money on.
We had to get car from police impound. He is probably still locked up.
Child molester goes to jail. Had to get his car from his apartment after he got locked up. Again. Probably still in a cage.
People killing themselves. Getting cars from the family for those was sad cause it was personal items inside from lost loved ones.
    Divorces always kept us busy.
Then u had professional debters. People who convinced others to coe sign them then took off with cars.
Immagrants we're also big into buying a car and then leaving the country. Only to sell the car to friends or family who stayed here and knew it was out for repo . They would use it and abuse it till we could find it .
Some times we never found them.
The cops would call the bank cause they impounded it for a crime. Or another tow company would impound it for parking or accidents or abandoned.
Other good ones were drug dealers, doctors, porn stars dentists , cops etc etc.
Everyone gets repoed if they ain't cArful .
Divorces , drugs, gambling , loose women or something along those lines always throws people off thier game and they get cought slipping and then loose track of money and responsibilities.
Next thing u know they are up for repo and a foreclouser and then for the finally, a BK.
The stories at the repo company never got old.
The head reop guy , had some great stories of picking cars up.
I just apprised them and communicated with lenders and then facilitated a sale fair to everyone , lein holder and new customer.
I did go pick up some cars everyonce in a while.
Best ones are not postable on here. With Google and all, it wouldn't be hard to find out who I am talking about or who I am. I don't need that bitting me in the backside.
End result is that you should always live in your means and pay your bills first before u treat yourself to anything other then food and shelter.

Dude, that's terrible for most people. If you net $2K/month, a $1K mortgage and $500 car note makes no sense. Mortgage/rent shouldn't be more than 1/4 net, car note (if you can't buy in cash) should be no more than 1/10 your net. So a young guy getting $2K has $500 for his portion of rent (roommates) and $200 car note. That way he can still eat and save some money. Sure, home costs will be more in CA, NY, CT, etc. But in most places, housing cost isn't gonna eat up half your salary.

The best part about a repo of that level...
He is still entirely financially liable for it.
Given the cost and rarity of such a vehicle... It will go in for a complete mechanical check; sincerely hoping that he did not miss one single dealer maintenance item; and also a very costly detail.
By the time that it eventually resells at a considerable loss; he will wish that he made some type of payment arrangement.
Boys and girls there is a lesson to this story. Strongly weigh how much one is sinking into an automobile; but also factor in entire maintenance (preferably dealer for a reason); insurance, etc...Almost anyone out there who does not have disposable income of at least 20%++ should rarely buy a vehicle over the new car price of 30k. Almost any car above that is either a waste of money, or more of a luxury purchase.
I make plenty of money. One of the best vehicle decisions I've ever made is a vehicle of less than 30k. I took all of the money I saved an spent it considerably more effectively than on a vehicle

I worked for a Harley Davidson dealership from 03 to 2009 and we had very similar things happen with the banks and how far they would go to sell motorcycles one specific case always stuck in my mind we had a young man buy a base model 883 sportster the only option it had from the very bottom speck was it had blue tins a 200.00$ upgrade from black the base model anyway we could put value on paper anything with a sku for a down payment so this young man went to the dollar store and bought a boom box for approximately $12.00 and used it for a down payment when his note was all done he had financed 14k on a 6k msrp fully covered of course with 7 yrs of extended service plan GAP coverage and pre payed services. The young man was extremely happy and very aware of what he had done. 8 months later he traded the 883 in on a 18k new Softtail and had a 7 year note of something like an $800.00 a month payment still very happy young man but I was and to this day amazed the lengths the finance company’s would go to in order to move inventory. There is no way you could do that now but in that time frame again 2003 to approximately 2009 it was like the wild Wild West lol.

Sadly, these days far too many people are in brand new, expensive vehicles and are oblivious to the fact that the title is owned by the bank and that if something we to happen to them, whether they lose their job, get into some kind of accident that prevents them from working or the bottom falls out of the economy, if they do not keep up with those monthly payments the real owner of that vehicle is coming to take it back. As big of an ego booster as it may be to be one of the countless people with a brand new 70k truck, it feels much better to be one of the people who is smart enough and reserved enough to own a modest vehicle that you paid cash for and actually own outright, knowing that whatever happens, you own your vehicle and do not have a hefty monthly payment. One of the benefits to living modestly is being able to take that extra money and save it towards something smart, such as starting your own business. One day you will be financially stable and will be able to have a nice vehicle in a manner that is not financially irresponsible. Unfortunately the average person is too susceptible to the marketing of self image and living the dream that they cannot be patient and make the right decisions early on.
Maybe this comment will resonate with a few people and help them to make good decisions that will make their lives much better in the long run.
