  • Our TD5 diesel fuel regulator is leaking, so in this video we're going to remove and carry out a refurbishment with parts ordered from JGS4x4 (link below), this applies to both 10p and 15p engines and also the 1 and 2 pipe versions, overall it's not a difficult job but access is a bit limited if you decide not to remove the inlet manifold however with some persuasion you can remove and reinstall the regulator and tighten everything back up, the torque settings are 25nM on the three bolts and then for the barbs it's a 14mm spanner just nipped up, they have little green o-rings on them.
    You can buy the regulator with a new pipe etc, for most this is probably the best solution depending stock availability, I would say to ensure you are buying the correct one because ours as a connection at the top and some don't have that so check first.
    When reinstalling ensure both surfaces are cleaned and smooth, then install any new o-rings included in the kit and you're good to go, thanks for watching!

    Seen a great tip - a Britpart UA-cam video with Fuzz Townshend: when putting the FPR back in place, put an elastic band around the three bolts to hold them in place; once they are done up a little just pull and break or cut the elastic band!

      you can do this, it makes it easier just make sure the bolts go in straight. we used some elastic cord.

    How delightfully fiddly. I did not know you could get repair kits. They just fitted a new one on Big Lollopy when it leaked. £125 ! Anyway, good effort lads!

    Love your video! Fuel line that goes to the top of the fuel cooler (shell side) has a black plastic collar/collet and is supposedly a "push-fit" - just can't remove this fuel line from the fuel cooler! Do you squeeze the black plastic collar/collet and pull the fuel line back at the same time? Any tips (don't want to break it)?

      It is pushfit, but tight because of age we removed ours and popped it back on only to find it then popped off spraying diesel everywhere so i recommend you actually cut the old connector off and put a new one on to avoid such an issue but it may be fine. give it a real good clean to loosen the dirt, then pull the collar back/squeeze it and pull off try that.

      @@DanielJohnHowTo Thanks for that! Sprayed with brake cleaner, will wait and spray again - pull the black plastic collar right back, squeeze and then try and pull off! At least I know I’m doing it the right way! Always apprehensive about plastic breaking! Will have to find the part number for a new hose just in case! Thanks for that! (Looks like hoses only come with a new FPR - not sold separately?! Other option is getting a fuel hose made up at a hydraulics shop.)

      Got it off!! All in one piece - nothing broken! Few sprays of brake cleaner using the little straw to remove grit/dirt, then later a few sprays of penetrant; put an open-end spanner behind the collet and pushed whilst pulling the fuel hose - it came off! May not need a new hose now - all looks to be good. WIll be best to get new Viton o-rings though I'm assuming?

    I guarantee you that removing the battery, ecu, battery box and then inlet manifold will make this job 1000% easier.

      Definitely I agree with you, just didn't want to take anymore off than we had to otherwise it can be a rabbit hole at the time.

    Hi lads iv got a late 2003 d2 iv noticed the FPR leaking, but i noticed the regulator is the one with small pipe on it an theres nothing connecting to it, am assuming its the wrong one that has been fitted in the past, any ideas much appreciated 👍

      Our issue was the right FPR but wrong gasket/sealant combination, however by the sounds of it if it's the small pipe as in the top one then it could be a 15p FPR on a 10p engine, or it is a 15p and the pipe is missing. Best bet is to find the exact engine e.g. 10p/15p and buy a FPR for it or the pipe the 15p variant needs along with a new gasket thanks.

      12mins in the video it shows the connectors one screws in and the other is a pushfit connector that goes to the fuel cooler on the inlet manifold thanks.

      if the surfaces are clean and it's a new gasket you shouldn't need to

    Having problems with my discovery td5 changed the injecter seals injecter loom had a new fuel regulator had a sniff test holding water level oil level ok still miss firing any suggestions please

      have you checked/cleaned the ECU connectors? they are red and black at the back of the battery with a screw holding the box in
