I played realm royale once a few months after it released onto Xbox and quit immediately due to a bug where my map would not close mid game
My friend and I used to play it a lot but as time went on the lobbies were like 85% bots and just didnt feel rewarding getting wins.
I played it was different kinda like it fr
I played it was fun first time I died and turned into a chicken I could not stop laughing
Yep I played and play realm Royale it’s the only game I actually play
Hi-rez is the only studio who can grab defeat from the jaws of success

for anyone who doesnt know Hi-Rez, in their Overwatch like game Paladins, they removed the play of the game, everyone hated that and they still havent turned back after all these years lol
They really fumbled it with Rogue Company as well.

OG realm royale was some of the most fun i ever had with a battle royale. Then high-rez fucked it.
Like one patch they gave SMGs no fall off damage, gray SMGs were stronger than legy weapons.

Thank you for featuring my gameplay throughout the end :) really well put video, but I want to add a few things:
- the latest update was last August, which brought the new map. Another patch was supposed to follow suit, but has been paused as;
- the entirety of Reforged has been maintained mostly by 2 - yes, two - developers, occasionally with some help from the Paladins team. Both of the develpers have been sent to work on other Hi-Rez games which is slowing updates even further.
- the game currently gets around 50k players a week, steamcharts numbers have been very inaccurate for a long time now

I highly doubt it has 50k players a week. I think those are just fake numbers from the studio to convince others that the game isn't dead...
@@matyasmarkkovacs8336 that number is from the game's real time API. a huge majority of the playerbase are console ppl who play on same-input lobbies, which is why it might not seem like there are that many people

I wonder why do they do it? This happens with every game, they always start out good, fun, with original ideas, than they start ramping up monetization or just chasing trends again.
Gotta be old heads in charge trying the same business strategy that would have worked 20 yesrs ago over and over and over again and no one has any say in the matter except them

Yeah, I had some good fun on Realm Royale for those few months. Wish I could play it like that again.
I played realm royale, from its launch to its downfall and then to its atempt of beggining again and then going cold, the game was everything the public wanted back in 2018, an original battle royale, then hi rez proceeded to fumble the biggest bag ever and step on it, if the game fell in the hands of a good company i bet it would be thriving to this day, i suggest looking into spellbreak, its another fantasy battle royale that was very cool but eventually failed, theres also an voxel mmorpg called Trove that i think would be interesting getting into.
I still wonder if Spellbreak could've avoided it if they didn't take the epic deal, when it got on steam it was already with a small playerbase and had no marketing of it leaving.
I remember buying the founder's package (or whatever it was called) on ps4 to get early access to the game. A couple weeks later it was released for free and they gave ps plus users the battle pass. Meanwhile people who bought the pack didn't get shit, the founder's pack skins were a single chicken skin and a single horse skin 🤡

Nah you are lucky that horse skin is the rarest mount in the game and one of the coolest in my opinion
4k hours into this game almost. I just couldn’t get into the new map. Was hell of a lot of fun while it lasted.
Used to be a great game, doubt I could ever convince a single friend to play it with me again
I’ve been a consistent realm player since beta I would still say the game is great they just need a bigger player base and some more updates

I was playing Realm Royale every day till recently, i maxed all classes and maxed the battle pass and there is just nothing to do anymore.
Realm still holds the spot of my favorite game and personally it does seem to be a lot better now but it is sad the player base isn't coming back

Hi-Rez is a studio that needs to be studied. Truly a mindblowing group of people who create great games and manage to just fumble what they have.
I LOVED going to the forges and crafting, knowing there was smoke coming out of the forge and other players could see it. Getting rid of the ability to craft legendaries was so stupid.

I dont think there will be updates to it BUT ive heard talk about there being a new realm royale game being made
It's funny how fortnite had to do nothing and realm royale killed itself tho
my first game was awful, game lagged so much due to my laptop specs, so i just stopped after first try.
Next time, however, was better, even tho it was after all of these updates, in 2018. It was somewhat fun to play and have a chat with frends in game, but after some time game became boring, we learned all effective strats (which is just any weapon with fire element) and began to come up with unusual strats, for example - assasin's invis + minigun from drop. And even with that game was pretty boring, we used it just to talk and play something chill.
Reforged update took from us every unique ideas we came up and give us same problems - legendary is imbalanced, warriors are the best, best-in-slot builds.
Also we joked that anything named "reforged" is already doomed to fail because of controversial warcraft III reforged update
I remember the very first time I played it it was so fun but the updates ruined it and then later on I got it again and there was no more updates so I uninstalled it again
i liked this video but the over editing specifically with the transition sounds are kind of annoying ngl. not hating still really liked the video.

really nice video. its very unfortunate that hi-rez keeps doing this. Paladins aint what it used to be anymore either. though that still has more people playing. but i dont play it anymore, it became very unenjoyable with their updates.
It’s funny and sad how consistently hi-rez drives their games into the ground. With one of their most recent games Divine Knockout, they dissolved the development team in a company restructuring because all they care about is Paladins and Smite. They couldn’t ruin it with updates because they barely had the chance to. The only good thing is that they have no plans to turn off the servers despite it being unprofitable (which is their own fault since they barely marketed the game. They didn’t even announce when the game became free to play (it was $25 USD before)).
Hirez had some of the best games out there... Yet they manage to get them killed...
Realm royal, rogue company, paladins... Sad to see

I'm more upset they put any additional resources into this to fight Fortnite instead of putting resources into Paladins to fight Overwatch 2.

Hi-rez is extremely greedy, they like to kill games this way, also changing stuff or adding new things too often, which sounds good but not the way they do

fortnite, was not the insigator of the battle royal craze, and it didn't even blow up immediately. PUBG had that honour. I'm saying as a Fortnite player and love the game

nuff said. The market was suffocating in Battle Royale's at the time. The very release date made it that the game had barely any chance to stand out whatsoever. Sorry, but the supply at the time far outmatched the demand. And we're talking Live-Service model ffs, you need a steady and decently large playerbase that pays for MTX for that shit. The project was doomed to failing from the start.

Hey, thanks for the comment! The why _____ is so awesome videos are actually coming back in June with a video on Balatro! I needed to take a break from them because I was getting burnt out, but the plan is to do one "why it's awesome" video every other month and two "why it failed" videos per month. Hope you change your mind and stick around!
Also, these videos aren't supposed to be super negative, they are more of a way to document what happened to games that we all used to play.

these videos arent rage bait at all. i think you have never been a subscriber in the first place. robokast is the most calm chill guy on the planet, he doesnt do "rage bait". his videos are peaceful. this was just a very introspective and educational video, interesting too. youre just a hater probably jealous of his views and of his amazing work. and he showed in this video why Realm Royale used to be awesome, too. plus he can do whatever content he wants, hes a human being.
