Creating boss as attractive white guy seems negate the 'zoomer gangster' trope. You will definitely feel that way if you play as the default boss. That look 🙄🙄
It is a shame, But completely unsurprising. The woke crusaders are trying to go after every single game/game franchise out there, So at the end of the day the best thing to do is just to stick to the older games in my opinion. Ever since they've been pushing woke messages in video games I've been focusing on older games and I've really been enjoying either revisiting the older games that I grew up with (Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress, Bioshock) or visiting older games that I haven't played but have high praise.
the more tragic thing is, Volition actually *wanted* to create a proper Saints Row 5 with all the classic crew members returning and settling the long lost conflict with an important character, focusing on 20/80 balance (20% SR3; 80% SR2) but DeepSilver keeps demanding a change to the game to the point that having a proper Saints Row 5 isn't possible and had to reboot and change everything, plus with an incompetent leadership of Volition itself, it's clear that the project is doomed and nothing can save it anymore, and it's honestly depressing on how much the reboot could save
They have been part of Embracer for years, who bought up studios en masse years ago. In my opinion, they have no real knowledge of the games industry. For some time now, they have been shedding or restructuring a lot of studios. You can only feel sorry for the poor developers who have to work under their management.
It kills me inside, cause apparently they wanted to do like a 70 30 split, of saints row 2 and 3, SR2 story and feel, with SR3 over the top set pieces. Which is perfect for me cause I think 2 and 3 are the best in the series.
I remember the representative or whatever u call them was literally on twitter arguing with everybody and getting mad at the fans because the fans hated the direction the reboot was going in and pretty much told the fans to fuck off….and they did.. fucked off so bad the company had to close its doors 😅

I believe Saints Row, should have listened and went back to it roots and told us a Prequel story to the original game. Ending with you being a young Julius, finding all of your soldiers, GAT, Troy, Aisha, and Dex.
It wasn’t creative, it wasn’t unique, it definitely didn’t try to push any boundaries gameplay or comedy wise. It didn’t know what it wanted to be. It had nothing the old games had
it tried to appeal to a new market and it failed miserably. The kind of people who play Saints Row game are NOT interested in DEI or P.C. or any other woke crap.
Saints Row 2 was the crown jewel of the franchise. It was a mix of comedy and still had a serious real-world tone to it. Saints Row 3 went full cartoon, killed the franchise. They limited clothing combinations, took clothing slots away and the story made the characters unlikeable. Thank God fun Shaundi was a thing. 4 and the remake were total trash.
literally! They did the exact opposite of what we wanted and lost all their players. If not all, then most. Saints Row 2 and Saints Row 1 is what I still play to this day.
Honestly don’t understand why companies do this. You spend all those years developing an IPs name, get a fan base who’s loyal to it and then immediately change it and you expect it to go well?
Im 27 and have been playing the franchise since the beginning. The new game was fine. Most people played saints row for the customization and open world. If you want a story driven gangster game, try mafia or gta
@@The.420.Riders but that was what people loved about saints row. The gang story and the wacky characters everyone fell in love with in saints row 2. They veered too far from that and became something completely different. You can’t just pull in a fan base and then flip everything on its head and tell them hey if you want this back then go find it somewhere else. Thats exactly why the saints row franchise is dead lmao.
Saints row not possible, neither for sleeping dogs because the owners of the sleeping dogs went bankrupt because of the online play that went flop, if a company remembers sleeping dogs and decides to make a sequel then maybe it can comeback but right now it’s not possible for both and only sleeping dogs can potentionally comeback
I will never understand the trend of rebooting a popular franchise to appeal exclusively to new fans instead of the old ones. The right approach would be either do something that appeals to both or just the old ones. If all you want are new fans, then create a new IP. It'd be cheaper, you'd have more control and you wouldn't risk losing existing customers. Why change the established one to alienate an existing fanbase for the _possibility_ of attracting a new one? It's such an insane idea, it never works and companies keep doing it.
theyre terrified of the possibility of being the name behind a new IP that flops, because it would tarnish their reputation. thats why they suck off existing IPs like leeches, so even if it fails they can just blame the failure on other things and put a fortune 500 company on their resume. its more about selfish self preservation and less about genuinely caring to make original content or anything about games
Back in 2021 (or so) I participated in an online event for the selected game media outlets that revealed this new Saints Row game. We were shown the bespoken trailer and after that there was a QA session with the devs team. I think I was the only one from that bunch of journalists that played the whole series. Hell, some of those guys might not even were born when the first game had its release. I was the only one, I think, who was appalled by what I had seen. The chat was full of words "wow" and "amazing". That was a pure absurd really. The newb gaming cohort ate that trailer and started hyping. I couldn't get it and thought I might not understand the new trends maybe. But then I saw the sad and exhausted look on the senior devs faces. Those balding older dudes from the core Volition, who made first games, had this distinctive tired "I'm too old for this sh*t" aura. So I realised they were not happy with what they had created either, this zoomer sh*t was forced on them from the management above. Since then I cannot blame Volition for the fail of the new Saints Row. At least the core team guys, they knew it was bad but nobody cared about their opinion.
It jives with what we heard with the interview Shortfatotaku did with a dev. That and by that time, a lot of the older guys just grew out of making games like that so their hearts weren't in it anymore.
I consider all this stuff to be what I call "low attention span content". It's what happens when a creator (whether a TV show, a UA-cam video, a movie, whatever) doesn't trust its audience to stay engaged by the subject itself and feels the need to throw in sounds and graphics and things popping onto the screen or edited into the video and so forth to keep them watching. I'm not saying that this was necessarily the intent here, but it happens and I cannot stand it. If a video is going to throw cute little drawings on the screen or repeatedly cut to images of memes to emphasize a point or underline every cutaway with a click or whoosh, I'm just going to turn it off. Shit gets on my nerves.
Another example of a company that lost track of why people liked their games in the first place. The raunchy humor and over the top action is what attracted me to Saint's Row. Missing that, I have no reason to play it.
I remember the Devs saying it gets better after a while trust us. So I thought and hoped that maybe the trailer was a miss direct, maybe after the first mission the camera pulls back and it's Shaundi playing a video game, throwing the controller saying "This sucks" or something equally as witty, but that never happened. I didn't mind the idea of a reboot, I was even prepared for new characters, I just wasn't prepared for these characters, or the story, or the writing.
What they did right and beat rockstar with was the storymode coop. Its a shame that Gta didnt lean towards multiplayer in small groups centered in story mode instead of sandbox "free roam" death match
The thing that GTA has never changed its roots to some superficial stuffs , they've just enhanced the graphics , add details , new features , but the game has always been the same ❤
The part about take 2 acquiring the saints row team should have you worried though. Starting to see things similar to what killed saints row appearing in their works like covering up offensive imagery in the trilogy (the whole point was that it's offensive the game is meant to be a satirical perspective on the years it takes place in.
"How did the parent studio go under because of one failed game?" - It didn't. It went under because of a series of poorly managed choices. The talent that used to exist were gone, or have moved beyond their interests in the past. They then wanted to make games they wanted to create, but players didn't want to play. Lack of leadership and so on. What actually killed the studio was that the Saudi investor pulled out last second which lead to the collapse. They had mismanaged the company to the point the investor was the only hope they had.
@Cloud_Seeker This comment, here. The reboot was bad, but it didn't completely destroy Volition; it just gave Embracer Group a good enough and perfectly justified reason to not keep them around.
Basically the old devs grew up and wanted to make stuff like Starfield. Honestly wondered why they didn't just bring in some new blood who grew up on Saints Row to continue it while the old heads could go make their dad game.
I been playing saints row since 2005 and the real reason it failed is because they tried to cater to the new gamers instead of the people that are of age and actually played the game as a kid .
I was 1 year old when you started playing it. I'm 20 now. I still have all of the old games though. Bought them all before the new one launched so I could prepare for it since I had only played a little when I was a kid.
All they have to do is make it gangster again🤦🏾♂️ why are they making it complicated.. a regular gangster saints row with a great storyline like 1 & 2 will make Og & New fans happy
Everyone craps on saints row IV and says it's so unrealistic because of the superpowers, he never actually had superpowers it was all part of a simulation none of that stuff was real
My saints row wish list Bring Saint Row I to PC Fix Saints Row 2 on PC and include all the Missing content/DLC make the multiplayer work again on the old ones for local play or something like that and after all of that lets the series rest in piece, cause we got all the best things preserved
Shit I was pissed off that a new game was being worked on we all knew that it was was a waste of time and money at least gave the decency to give us the damn patch before you go bankrupt like a bunch idiots who looked at this during development and said yeah a kid could have predicted this outcome
It's a beet they're trying to convince you is a potato, and if you insist it's a beet they'll go online to publicly shame you for calling them out. Also you're a bigot.
I don't know if Activision owns the IP anymore. I think that's where United Front came in and bought it and changed the name to Sleeping Dogs. Activision slept hard on that one. Literally a timeless classic. Besides, rumor has it that Sweet Baby helped GTA6 with dialogue. If that's true, it's pretty much open grounds for anybody to make an open world crime title and compete.
Well, I have a hard time feeling sympathy. They split the fanbase with SR3 and since then, one half of the fanbase, including me, told them time and time again to go back to the roots with the 90's gang culture. And what did we get? Aliens, Hell, Agents of Mayhem and the Reboot.
I tried replaying the new Saints Row recently but it felt terrible, I then moved back to Saints Row 4 which somehow felt so much better no matter how over the top it is, the older games are and always will be better then the new one, the F’d up big time
The original Saints Row's success is because it's the HD version of the beloved San Andreas when GTAIV was still years away. Compared to SA, Saints Row was an ehancement of the gang war formula.
That take 2 acquisition is worrying though. These devs destroyed saints row, and now they're with the parent company for rockstar its not out of the realm of possibility they could work their way over to rockstar, and ruin GTA 6 as well.
I honestly would like a another game so the Saints Row IP doesn’t lay to rest with such a shit show of a video game reboot but at the same time how in the hell does one come back from such a huge disaster? Especially how cocky and arrogant the marketing team acted in the Twitter comments of fans like “haters gonna hate” and that one dev making the “Quit having fun” meme being completely tone deaf about the situation of the game. But we can just pretend it never existed and say the series set sail to the sunset after 4. :)
The reboot failure has pretty much sealed the death of saint's row as a franchise The atrocious failure and deplorable attitude of the devs and marketing team has pretty much guaranteed that the franchise won't be getting touched again
@kingjb554 nah ruined the whole thing tbh, went in a completely different direction to the first two games, the gangs in sr3 are whack, steelport or whatever it’s called lacks any life/ substance to it in comparison to Stilwater, the story sucked in comparison to the first two games, the treatment of Johnny gat was criminal, it just felt lazy and it was a massive disappointment, it felt like it was trying to only appeal to 12/13 year olds with its crappy humour whilst alienating the real saints row fan base who enjoyed and loved the first two games… all in all a very disappointing game and set up the later tragic games in sr4 and so on
@@pocketinfinity6733 Excellent point. But piracy was never theft to begin with. It's unathorised copying. Theft implies the owner is deprived the use of the item. @@tdestroyer4780 You may not be owning games anymore, but I am. I'd wager the reason you believe people don't own games any more is down to media programming. Stop watching Jtv. It's just lies. Same with any J influencers or J publications. Lies all the way down. Pilpul. "People" get angry because of two reasons: 1) sunk cost fallacy. "I paid so everyone else has to or else I look silly" or "My (heavy airquotes) investment is losing value!!!!" 2)Gullibility and corpo-identity psychosis. People are gullible and easily misled into championing causes that actively work against them. Also certain demographics are highly suseptible to investing their self-worth into a corporate logo. Fanboyism, essentially, but they feel personally attacked then the brand does badly. A lot of this is due to gaming becoming globalised. Didn't happen when it was just white european nerds. Indians, for example, basically worship microsoft. As such you see a lot of them defending Bethesda doing very dirty anti-consumer stuff. I think microsoft call centres and associated scamming is like 80% of indias GDP at this point.
It failed because they took what people loved about the game (the realistic gang experience) and turned it into a bootleg halo😂. Then reboots it with bad writhing and cringe characters. Ruined the whole franchise because they didn’t like being called a “GTA Clone”🤦🏾♂️
The only game who got near of being a competitor to GTA, but instead decided to "be different" with saints row 4 and then went completely insane with the reboot. its a shame really, such promising franchise destroyed forever like that...
Simple Volition didn’t listen to the fan base when they kept saying “We Don’t Like It!” “Go Woke Go Broke!” “We kill the woke people in the first three games” But instead Volition refused to listen and verbally abused those who voiced an opinion to them that was in no way aggressive and then Volition had the sheer nerve and audacity to demand sympathy when they effed-up. Their downfall is the cause because they tried to impress too many people because a bunch of Karens.
Simple answer : It's woke The game itself is boring, you need to proceed with the main story by building something. The main character is definitely homeless, the buddy system sucks only one member. Ai looks way more stupid, it's hard to earn cash. Like you won't convince me if the main character is female that looks woke enough. Bring us the boss bsck
Saints Row franchise perfectly encapsulated the typical office composition 'evolution' of most surviving dev groups today; a team, initally founded and helmed by passionate geeks and nerds(SR1, SR2), only to be taken over by corporate dudebros(SR3), until those where slowly supplanted, and killed off by hipsters(SR4,AoM,nu-SR).
To be honest tho I blame the gta fan boys for saints row's downfall bc when they were talking about it being a gta clone they were harassing the developers it wasn't like they were even playing the game they were just all over it like oh gta clone gta clone and then the developers got so tired of that they came up with all the wacky goofy ridiculous stuff that are in saints row 3 and 4 which were fun games but never should've been saints row games at all especially when saints row 4 got to be where Santa clause was in it then you play as johnny gat when you go to hell and fight Satan (even in gat out of hell) and then the entire game is a whole mixture with aliens and superheroes but saints row was originally about you fending off other gangs and take over their territory but the problem is the developers didn't really care about none of that so they got away from all that stuff and even when they realized there were ppl who actually were fans of saints row 1 and 2 the developers ignored them bc they were like screw it we rather have new fans that might get into saints row 3 and 4 then after all these years we eventually get the reboot which pissed off alot of ppl who were fans of 1 and 2 then pissed off more ppl who were fans of 3 and 4 so now that put volition out of business
I see it the same way. The blame for the decline of the series lies somewhere between the GTA fanboys and the developers. SR1 and 2 were my favourite games in the series. I also thought SR3 was ok. But I never finished part 4. I got the reboot with my graphics card as a promo perk. To be honest, I didn't find it as bad as most people did. But for me it simply wasn't Saints Row. If you ignore the name, you're just left with a below-average game.
Exactly. People born from 1981 to 1996 are Millennials, so the youngest Millennials right now are 28. I get it's also a term used for woke effeminate losers who spend too much time on Twitter, but the characters in the reboot are meant to be Zoomers, like 21 to 24.
Yup. Early to Mid 30s but the devs still thought millennials were in college and set the game moreso for the mid 2010s apparently. So the game feels like it was made for an audience younger than who they aimed it for but its not Zoomer.
I've never been so let down by a franchise in my life. All they had to do was make a new game similar to the 1 and 2. How they messed that up is beyond me 🤦♂
I lived in the city where they were making this game. They had a bunch of college students come in and tell them what we want. They went the complete opposite direction. That’s how they failed. Not listening
Saints row one: we’re in a gang to save our neighborhood and then the rest of the city Sr2: were in a gang to reclaim what was ours Sr3: we’re gettin revenge for gat and giving the world a reason to take ya seriously again Sr4: we’re gonna fight back against aliens Reboot: aww Fuck man. Our rent is due…. Start a gang? Good idea
Because they went from having an identity to being weird, they said F you to the actual family they had already to try new ones when they could’ve just made a whole separate IP to get different buyers without losing the ones they had
I was planning to actually watch this one (as opposed to listen to it in the background like I do with most video essays on youtube, haha) but for some reason I find the editing style in this video very jarring. I'm only 4 minutes in but the fact that every 30 seconds there is a sequence where you just show a single word at a time over a moving background while you talk is giving me a huge headache. Really unfortunate because I have some truly amazing and terrible memories playing this series and I was looking forward to seeing some nostalgic footage. 😅
GTA 3 was a clone of the games at the time. This is why we have a divide in the fanbase. SR 1 & 2 had a a story that expanded the more you play. These new games have shooting until you need to pay more
The first Saints Row was the most gangster one, not overly comedic or goofy. All about gangs and turf wars. BUT... the second one was my favorite and the best in my opinion. They added so much. It was the perfect blend of comedy and action.
Drifting away from the serious tone and dramatic movie-like gang wars are the two of the things that killed the game. But seriously, can’t they just remake them already.
To me, the series died at 4. Like what is the point in getting any cars? Your powers from the start will outdo them all. What is the point in getting a gun? Your powers will outdo them all. From. The. Start. Why do any of the story? Sorry to say, but no matter what you do, the end will always be the same.
In my opinion, SR4 was really good BUT it was 🤏 close to be great - like imagine if in the end it was all somehow a wild ahh trip Boss had and you return to "normal" or sum like that
Well that's because it began life as a DLC for Saints Row the Third but Deep Silver forced them to make it into a full game to help save them from bankruptcy.
Saying that Saints Row is different from GTA because it doesn’t take itself seriously is a weird take. GTA is full satirical and occasionally rather immature humor; outlandish scenarios and characters, funny one liners, and crude side bits
I loved Saints Row 2. It's a game I still like to go back and play every once in a while. I spared myself the torture of playing Saints Row 2022. I would still like to see a new Saints Row game. More so a reboot of the first two games, if that's possible. Just use the same world. Make the cities more robust, allow for more NPC interaction, accessing more buildings, newer vehicles. The game already had a good assortment of weapons.
I played this game recently, the 2022 reboot, finished the story I can tell you guys, the game feels like watching a disney channel sitcom with curse words to sound edgy for teenage audiencies I guess (? Not recomended at all unless you are desperately waiting for gta 6 and already played most of the style of games tbh
What’s interesting is that after Saints Row 2 the series lacks one of the most important things to the story… *Saints Row.* I don’t think most people understand what the row is. The church where it all started and where it was rebuilt. The literal heart of the operations. Where the gangs first leader started the group, and also where he would begin his last day on earth. In the first game, the church is run down and covered with graffiti, almost giving off this image that reinforces how the gang is coming up from nothing. Even though the church couldn’t be an HQ in the second game, it still stood as a representation of all you were trying to accomplish. The row itself was missing from SR3 up to the latest game. If nothing else, this is just a nitpick with the story. Saints Row has been missing *Saints Row* for the majority of the series, which I think is a little symbolic.
Thank you for a video on Saints Row franchise. I started with 3 and loved it. Sad how far it fell with the reboot. Also yes I would love to see a video on the failed Agents of Mayhem game.
The biggest mistake this franchise made was leaving Stillwater. Then it was turning the gangsters into supermodel soda slingers. Then it was turning the supermodels into black ops presidents fighting aliens in the matrix. This franchise imo died with the third installment. And the game ratings agree with me.
Taking into consideration how modern games get released nowadays -cringey, unfinished and boring i dont think there's a point in even trying to ressurect saints row, the current landscape in game development is very money oriented and the quality is bad
Saints row 3 was the beginning of the end for the franchise. The moment they stepped out of the shadow of GTA, they were doomed. They should have never leaned more into the goofy side of things. Which is why they decided to reboot it, and boy did they fumble that too.
You know, I always thought they should've did what SR2 did: leave the goofy stuff for the player to enjoy outside of the main story. That mistake was repeated in 3, 4, GOH, and SRR. It affected the storytelling and feel of the games overall.
Yeah kinda misses the point Johnny gat is a perfect example of saints row he's egdy violent and doesn't give a shit that's what shouldve happened in the reboot The new gang starts and Johnny shows up shoots them and states "who the fuck do you think you are!"
They tried too hard to be edgier than GTA, and ended up going all in on shock value over anything else. Everything was over the top by the 3rd game, with all the futuristic garbage, which just killed off the fanbase through sensory overload. Ironically, GTAV was a step down from previous titles because they started to copy Saints Row.
I didn't mind the reboot, my main gripes with the game were the fact that the map felt uninspired and the main story was so short. When I reached the final mission it felt like "That's it?" and it didn't really leave me wanting to do any of the side stuff. This coming from a guy who does a yearly play through of SR2 and bi yearly run of SR3
It was obvious. The publisher didn't want to appeal to anything the fans actually wanted from the older games, they sanitized it too much, told the base to go f-themselves, and lied about the characters being gangsters because they aren't. They're boring hipsters and the gang they make feels too much like a club rather than a gang or mob. The game they gave us instead had no actual gangster characters, the enemies had no development and still looked too silly, and the writing/plot was terrible. The reboot was like a bad parody of itself if it was made today. But it being the real game, is just an insult. Like, is badassary dead in gaming characters or something? Then they tried to say the pre-planned larp DLC with the ai voice ad for it they had was just "responding to fan feedback". Yeah right. Nobody said they wanted more of that, when they barely delivered on anything else. The most corporatized reboot I've ever seen. Like these guys don't even know what gangsters are anymore.
This reboot has to be one of the biggest failures in gaming history. This entire situation is the equivalent of going to a fancy steak house expecting a feast worth the price. And they bring you a vegan 8oz beyond meat "steak." It was a spit in the face to fans of a classic franchise. (the first two games at least)
I'm an idiot for thinking this game was going to be anything other than a waste of time and a cash grab. All while shitting on us saints row fans and turning the franchise into a joke.

Saints and Sleeping Dogs need to make proper comebacks at the hands of motivated and dedicated devs.
Sleeping dogs has no chance currently due to GTA 6 being so hyped
Sleeping dogs is actually the third game in the true crime series. There are two games that come before it: True Crime: L.A. and True Crime: New York
I loved sleeping dogs, i was hoping for a 2nd one but it never came
@@Manhunt811it’s possible for saints row they just need to get rid of everything they’ve done so far and never do it again.
That's because that's all that corporate suits can do.
They only know how to exploit the IPs they have, not create anything new.
theyre terrified of the possibility of being the name behind a new IP that flops, because it would tarnish their reputation. thats why they suck off existing IPs like leeches, so even if it fails they can just blame the failure on other things and put a fortune 500 company on their resume. its more about selfish self preservation and less about genuinely caring to make original content or anything about games
@ I’d say ruining an existent and popular IP tarnishes reputations more than ruining new ones.

It's clear you put a lot of time into researching this one, but MAN those bright shutter flashes gotta go
Fr it's getting annoying
Yeah I just noticed how frequent those were.
agreed
And the earth shattering low whoop sounds every 2 seconds can go too.
Them claiming the game got better after the poorly received trailer, is jut one of the many lies from that publisher and dev team.

"How did the parent studio go under because of one failed game?"
- It didn't. It went under because of a series of poorly managed choices. The talent that used to exist were gone, or have moved beyond their interests in the past. They then wanted to make games they wanted to create, but players didn't want to play. Lack of leadership and so on. Simple answer : It's woke
The game itself is boring, you need to proceed with the main story by building something.
Reboot: aww Fuck man.

At the end of the day, both games are a satire on real life. One perhaps a little more exaggerated than the other.
I can tell you nearly every main character's name from saints row 2, I can't even remember the main groups name from the reboot lol

We need a indie studio to make a Saints row like
Dude I'd be on board for making this
I didn't even finish this game, I'm still playing Saints Row 2 for the 40th time.
I think they intentionally killed this franchise
I'm an idiot for thinking this game was going to be anything other than a waste of time and a cash grab. All while shitting on us saints row fans and turning the franchise into a joke.
Saints Row V felt like Watchdogs 2, but no hacking and somehow worse.
This wasnt Saints Row V.
It's a reboot, dum dum.
@@SeriousDragonify still the fifth game
@@WolfvineGaming Then what is Gat Out of Hell game then?
It's not 5th, dum dum.
@@SeriousDragonify it's literally a dlc did you not watch the video
@@aadarshroy3216 GOOH isn't dlc.
Didn't you search for the game?
They should just made it like sleeping dogs
BTW steam doesn’t take away your game if it becomes delisted that is a total lie
but they can if they want to
Tell that to people who bought games like The day before...
There's still forced refunds on steam!
@@robokast the only time they really do it is if it’s illegal, for the most part they don’t
@@Axoltolion Luckily Steam is one of the few big companies that haven't gone full authoritarian on their customers. You can get away with some pretty crude stuff and not be banned like on Playstation/Xbox.
