- There’s no knowing what we’d do without Netflix. For starters, we probably wouldn’t be able to binge-watch while lazing in our cocoons of blankets and snacks. The range of television shows on Netflix really covers the whole spectrum of human insanity, drama, and weirdness.
While some shows can be weird in a funny way, others, however, can be weird in a very creepy way -- someone-standing-over-your-bed-at-night-holding-a-knife kinda creepy. And when it comes to binging on some good shows, it’s Netflix’s dark and scary corner of TV shows that we look to.

Right! I loved how every episode was different. They were so weird, and like you said unpredictable, you think it's going one way but then it just takes a whole nother turn. Like the episode of the women who woke up not knowing where or who she was and was chased by a group of people and then the rest of the people in the town just kept recording her. Then it turned out she had recorded the killing of the little girl so the people were torturing her with this over and over. My favorites were San Junipero, PlayTest, Men against fire, and Fifteen Million Merits. There were others just as good but these just stuck with me.
I accidentally watched one of the episodes from the fourth season, rather than from the beginning. Thankfully each episode is different, so I really enjoyed it anyway.

The OA is so underrated, I thought it was amazing.
No mention of Amy Schumer's "The Leather Special"? It was incredibly disturbing, filled with insanity, and left the audience suffering. Odd that it was billed as a comedy. Must have been a typo.

To all the daft people complaining about The OA's ending, it's clear you're too incapable of understanding what happened and should probably stick to watching shows like Teen Wolf. You're so used to having these huge endings that you can't appreciate anything less than that. The ending of The OA was perfect and was meant to be satisfying yet suspenseful.

The OA was cancelled and *had* no ending. I think the “daft people” are the ones pretending to understand the “ending” that doesn’t exist. Kinda funny when you act all superior and it backfires on you... 😆

You don't have to like something just because it's got high reviews. Some things just don't click with people. :) I really enjoyed the series but I know friends (yes, intelligent, imaginative friends!) who didn't.

Penny Dreadful great show. I remember my mom buying penny dreadfuls at a garage sale. The invisible man was my favorite one. Also I LOVE SENSE 8. Fav show EVER.

I'm surprised Bates Motel isn't on there. A very underrated show in my opinion.
i don't understand when people jump on the hemlock grove hate wagon. most of those people clearly don't know the symbolism behind the episodes, the script, etc. it comes down to the very outfits of the characters sometimes, and just the way they say things. it almost makes me sad, to know that such a well-done series has been thrown under the bus so quickly because a lot of people are incapable of seeing it for what it really is. then again, a lot of it could easily just be brushed off, unless you *actually* know what the meaning is behind what you're seeing, so. still.
six likesgore thank god there are people out there who have watched Hemlock Grove. I watched all three seasons in about two weeks back in the summer of 2017.
the oa was one of the weirdest things ive ever seen (probably because i never made it to the end of twin peaks). i still dont quite understand the storyline but the last episodes cafeteria scene just really really got me. its so beautiful i rewatched it like a dozen times and it still makes me proper emotional...

Did you know the main character Michael Hall was diagnosed with cancer while doing this show? He worked through chemo in between doing sets. He is quite the actor to say the least. The ending probably did not turn out as well as expected because of what he was battling at the time.

Bojack Horseman? Yes it's an animated comedy, but it's incredibly dark and heavy in places, the way it deals with subjects like depression, addiction, betrayal, the search for happiness and the trappings of fame and the celebrity world.

This is a really well put together list. I kept finding myself thinking "yea that's a dark one" with a lot of them and usually with lists like this on youtube I disagree with half of them.

Bates Motel should of been on this list for sure. Its my favorite show of all time and the cast is incredible. Everyone needs to binge watch it now. Unfortunately, the final season is over but youll be happy you checked it out.

Carnivale is also an incredible and kinda dark series. Unfortunately it got cancelled after two seasons and I think it's not on Netflix. But very much worth your time if you can find it.

Best horror series on television? NOT American Horror Story. It can be gross and disturbing, but rarely scary, and it's kind of trashy to be honest. The X-Files, Twin Peaks, and Hannibal are vastly superior horror series.

I love a good episode of Twin Peaks and especially the X-Files before it got taken off, but AHS isn't trashy. It can be gross and disturbing and wildly inappropriate, but that's what makes it so entertaining. Scary? Very. In fact, each season appeals to different "types" of what you would consider to be scary. I will admit that sometimes the plot is iffy, but often the plot is very good and the history included is thoroughly researched. I love the show. I'm not scared of many things, but AHS does get to me.

The last 3 seasons are shitty AF... (Roanoke maybe it's the best of the 4) but the first 3 are amazing.
Hemlock Grove is a show that I honesty don’t know if I love it or hate it. I can rant about it for 20 some on minutes, but I watched all three seasons of the show in a matter of like two weeks, so it kept my attention and the series finale left me wanting more. I know it’s not everyone’s popular show, but in terms of the technical aspects, it was visually stunning; easily one of the best werewolf transformation scenes ever. And the opening title cards of the show are stunning as well.
The Following is a great one too. Kevin Bacon acting in a show based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Even the soundtrack is breathtaking!

The OA was amazing till the last parts of the final episode, a massive build up to an ending that made no sense and went in a weird direction.

It's actually weirdly beautiful how they linked the physical world to the other world. I feel as though the last scene was done that way because it symbolises something mindblowing. I refuse to believe that there is nothing else to that scene. I think it's just the beginning of a great journey and that scene plays a greater part than we can imagine :O
They ended it and we're left with no way to know if it was really mindblowing or not, because they chose to leave out the mindblowing part. The show kept me interested and I was intrigued, but it WAS a big buildup - so much time to learn and practice the movies, and for what?

Sense 8 just put up their second season and was cancelled shortly thereafter. Totally worth your time to watch but just letting you know now that it ends on a cliffhanger with several plot threads going unresolved. Like most fans of the show, it appeared to us that the cancellation wasn't expected so it wasn't actively trying to wrap up any of the story elements. In fact, you could say they were really starting to dive more into the mysteries behind the show when it got canned. Shame we'll never see the how these characters and their stories end. Hulu was rumored to be interested in the show but not sure if that'll ever become a thing or not.

finally someone who understands, why you would like hemlock grove. i have only heard bad things, but i enjoyed it for most of the things people didn't like it. it's a weird show, but an entertaining, gorod kind of weird, like lovecraft stuff. i loved the first season, but i basically hated all the female characters, but shelley. and i hated the hole roman-peter situation after the first season 😕

I liked Hemlock Grove too, it reminded me of old school supernatural shows like Buffy or Charmed tbh. I'm still mad the Roman/Peter thing never just happened cuz they kinda gay baited harder than Supernatural. I didn't like the girls either, but Famke's character grew on me cuz she was so over the top. The unexpected thing for me was that the Asian doctor(forgot his name) ended up being my favorite weirdly lol.

I always have the tendency to finish everything I watch, including the things I don't, but Hemlock Grove was SO BAD I couldn't get past the 4th episode. Everything was terrible, starting with the acting and the script. Even the art direction was super mediocre, and the story made no sense at all. It's one of the worst things I've ever seen.
ThatOnePerson well, i guess it's not for you. it's sad, but ok. i hate many movies people like and like movies other people hate. i always liked the weird and hemlock grove gave me a great 'weird'. it has many flaws, but it's a tv series unlike any other and eventhough i didn't like the second and third season that much it's still on the 'i like' list in my head and heart. maybe it is because many things don't make sense?

Sense8, Les Revenants, and Jessica Jones are three of my very favorite shows. A show on Netflix that is even darker than these is Salem, which is based on the premise that Salem really had witches during the Salem witch trials.

Black mirror is amazing for anyone who hasn't seen it. Each episode isn't tied to the others so you can start with any episode really. It's one of those shows where you don't know right away where the episode is going but the ending of each episode is unexpected in a good way. I've also watched The OA, Stranger Things, and The Returned. All good. I'll have to check out some of these others

THANK YOU. it seems so many people are loving this "mysterious" show - its basically a whole bnch of teenie crap that doesn't make sense. and the acting is horrid
because it's about after death, angels, and mental illness. She is really mentally ill but leads a cult following. That's what I got from the first season.

Perhaps someone else has picked you up on it, but Domhnall Gleeson's first name is pronounced Donal, the first syllable rhyming with bone. The 'h' is a feature of Gaelic called lenition, or séimhiú in Irish. It changes the sound of the preceding consonant, in this instance making the 'm' more like the 'w' at the end of the English word 'flow'.
Like the names Saoirse or Aoife they trip up people who pronounce them as if they are English spellings.
This is a public service announcement - if you like dark shows watch - the terror. It’s starts off slow but fuckin hell. Don’t watch it if you want jump scares. This is pure psychological survival horror. What a masterpiece.

The list is about dark shows. Luke Cage is not dark and Daredevil is not as dark as the other shows on the list.
+Lucas Luna They had Jessica Jones on the list though, and I'd say Daredevil is at least as dark as that. I mean, Kingpin decapitated someone with a car door ffs, it's quite a gory show.
Krist Mike D'arcy Jessica Jones deals with rape, domestic violence, psicological torture, forced suicides and a bunch of other things.
