I’m a child of the 80’s..danced on a box on weekends in a punk club in the 80’s at 15 years old. I was not a fan of the cure once they got popular but their early stuff is fire. My favorite is Burn which was on The Crow soundtrack! It still kills today!

Unique band,I first saw them in 1978 with my now dear departed brother, my 2 sons took me to the anniversary concert in Hyde Park in 2018...timeless!
Robert Smith and the cure is as good as Edgar A Poe in this. What a great writer of music and words. His honesty vulnerability makes him so interesting. So creative.
The lyric was, "His arms are around me and his tongue in my eyes." It's not a sexual thing, lol. The singer is saying that "spiderman" is eating him, like a spider eats a helpless fly. It's a song that's basically a fevered dream about being helpless and terrified of a slow moving monster: "Spiderman softly moves towards you, while you shiver afraid in bed, eating you with a thousand million mouths while you lay awake." It's beautiful poetry, and this is one of my most favorite songs of all time. Thank you so much for listening to it =)

The meaning behind the song - "While fans have speculated theories around the themes tackled within the song for years, with discussions around addiction and depression being the leading topics, Robert Smith later explained that his inspiration for ‘Lullaby’ was actually a fear of sleep. Smith, on reflection, explained that a reoccurring nightmare he suffered as a child in which was eaten by a giant spider was ingrained in his memory. “There would be something like ‘Sleep now, pretty baby,’ and then there’d be an ‘Or you won’t wake up at all’ coda to the song,” he said." ------ adding context ------ " The meaning of the song was the subject of discussion. In fact, many people said that Robert Smith wanted to speak about depression and drugs. Then Robert said that the song is about a childhood nightmare about the phobia of spiders. The inspiration for the song came from Robert’s dad that every night told a terrifying lullaby. "

If you want to dig a little deeper past the radio hits with these guys, I have one word for you: Burn. It was the first song I heard by them that made me dive into their discography past their pop stuff and I'm so glad I did.

This song is metaphorical. I'm pretty sure he is speaking of his life while he was using drugs. Robert Smith, the lead singer isn't Gay (not that that would be a problem) he has been married to his wife Mary since the late 80's. The Cure is amazing. One of the most talented bands out there!

Disintegration is Robert Smiths response to turning 30. He wrote much of the album lamenting turning the age so many rockers either produced their opus or died. The lsd influenced lyrics and posture of this album changes the music.

This whole album is amazing. Ranks really high on my list of front-to-back albums.
I still remember being ten- or eleven-years old back in 1989, when I first saw this video on MTV and how it scared the hell out of my younger self. Today what I like most about it is how it´s one layer after another, that all keep adding to the final song. One of their best songs, for sure and from one of the best albums of the latter part of the 80´s.
The Cure are one of my favorites. Now if you guys would just give Adam Ant a try.

Early on, while Robert Smith was the lead singer of the Cure, he was also playing guitar for Siouxsie and the Banshees. He actually considered quitting the Cure to be a full time Banshee.
