I just think about his poor, precious wife. God, I can't imagine her pain. Her day was normal as always, all she knew was her husband went to work. And the first time she was home after learning of his death, I can't even put myself there mentally, it's too painful. She would see all of his stuff, probably a bit tossed about from where he was getting ready for work like any other day. It makes me feel real pain to think about how it was for her. They seemed to have a happy marriage and were together many years.
How doth the hero, strong and brave, a celestial path in the heavens paved? A great write up I saw: "I wanna talk about this. Because this is more than just "some dude stole a plane lmao." Richard "Skyking" Russell is the spirit of every person alive today in the West who has "that feeling," which really is all of us, whether we realize it or not. That feeling of hopelessness and lack of purpose, where one has no choice but to serve the machine and be extracted for their worth before they are discarded, with the only thing to show for their toils the benefit of others' bank accounts. No personal achievement. No fulfillment. Not even the feeling of being alive. But he made it. He got out. In a final act of glorious rebellion he slipped the surly bonds of Earth and the crushing weight of 21st Century life and took for himself the greatest freedom Man has ever known. His last moments were spent living Man's oldest dream, completely, utterly free. He soared through the skies, put out his hand, and touched the face of God. He is, without question, a folk hero on par with the greatest, and I'd even go so far as to say in some ways he became a Christlike figure as he died for our sins which created the very world that's crushing us. It is to me, unironically, one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen."
They have to direct traffic and monitory this guy to ensure he doesn’t run into anyone/anything. It would have been impossible for a psychologist to talk him down over the radio.
I mean the first pilot flying next to him was talking to him, answering his questions. Talking about the mountains and hiking, asking him how his plane was feeling. At the end of the day hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of lives were at risk. It’s not exactly a risk worth taking to put all that aside to ask him how his day was…
Flight Control: "So do you want to land this thing or?" SkyKing:"Yo how do I see the mommy whale with the baby whale" We didn't deserve you. Rest in Power SkyKing

Not to put blame on the man handling Russell, but I feel like if they would've talked with him more than just flying the plane, loosened up, got to his level... maybe they could've got him to come back. He’s now flying with Valkyries in Valhalla. Rest in Piece Sky King
No he's not. That's now how it works. If you believe in norse mythology then you would know he is either in purgatory or hel. Valhalla is only for those that die with honor on the battlefield. There are people who can be chosen by Freya and they will go to her realm; however, most people will go to either purgatory or hel.

Why didn't they go radio silence this is a major issue
I was wondering the same thing. I listened to the fighter jet guys radio and they had his freq and decided that the ATC guys had a handle on it. they commented on his barrel roll and when he nosed it on down for the night.
Craig W all the others using the frequency had no reason to be using that frequency when they have back up channels they could have used so they could handle the issue at hand. People should have been fired for the lack of public safety that he potentially could have harmed.
I know sky king said he didn't want to hurt anyone, but the facts of the matter is even people that have murdered people say they don't want to hurt anyone but ended up doing so anyways.

Nah I think he wanted to kill himself and this was the way that he came up with. I don't think that he intended to safely land the plane after being free and having some fun because he didn't want to deal with the consequences of stealing a plane.
Despite all, despite living in a society that hated him, he didn't want to hate or hurt anyone. He left this world with no ill will, and doing something epic with a smile on his face and achieving his dream.
RIP Sky-King.
Yeah.. Did anybody notice how he mentioned being a white person in regards to asking for a job, but quickly said it was not possible because he was white. I wonder if the past years with all the race segregation caused some more mental issues. He was studying social science. I think he felt stuck in life? I know men feel more stress trying to be "somebody" based on todays standards of being wealthy, high profile, etc....
It’s the dehumanization of economics
Around 17:15 he said he wants to casually talk with them meaning needing someone to talk to and he follows it up with " but it's all business " meaning that these people wont talk to him the way he wants and needs...sad... that was for sure a cry for help and a chance and these professionals blew that chance...
I was gonna say it didn’t seem like anyone tried to talk him out of this that hard, if I’m on that call with him I’m convincing his ass to at least try to land it, for goodness sake if he could barrel role a 747 then I’m sure he could as least crash land somewhere.

How doth the hero, strong and brave, a celestial path in the heavens paved?
A great write up I saw:
"I wanna talk about this. Because this is more than just "some dude stole a plane lmao."
Richard "Skyking" Russell is the spirit of every person alive today in the West who has "that feeling," which really is all of us, whether we realize it or not.
